Day 1 of Hurricanes' spring football: Golden & James Coley, Hurlie Brown, Larry Scott sign in

Notes from Day One of UM spring practice at Greentree Field, where it was a brisk morning in the mid 50s and there was lots of loud music, including the Harlem Shake (players started doing the Shake during stretching) that blared from the loudspeakers:

Golden on...

*How the changes in the offensive coaching staff (new OC James Coley, new tight ends coach Larry Scott and new RB coach Hurlie Brown) have changed things: "Very little. Coach Coley and the offensive staff have done a great job of keeping the nomenclature, keeping the terminology, so that it's not a radical change for [the players]. That's very unselfish on their part, putting the players' first.

*Coley: "He brings a lot of energy, a lot of knowledge and passion. He's really done a great job taking over. He's put his ego aside because we really didn't want to mess with the quarterbacks and offense too much in terms of the terminology. He has adapted and learned some new terminology. He's putting his spin on things, which is great. He needs to do that. He needs to own it. We're very pleased with the way things are going.''

*Scott: "Larry is the consummate professional, just really brings a depth of experience to that position. I'm really pleased that we got off as well as we did today on offense, despite all the transition.''

*2013 schedule (which appears to be much easier than last year's): "I don't worry about that. We're going to play them one way or the other.''

*Who impressed him during the UTough off-season strength and conditioning program: WR Herb Waters, "RB Dallas Crawford, FB Maurice Hagens, TEs Clive Walford and Asante Cleveland, OL Sunny Odogwu, OT Seantrel Henderson, G Jon Feliciano, DT Curtis Porter, DT Olsen Pierre, LB Alex Figueroa, LB Raphael Kirby, CB Tracy Howard, CB Ladarius Gunter ("He might have had the best offseason of anybody'') and "Highsmith and Kacy were steady as always.''

*Here's who we saw on crutches: linebacker Gabe Terry (right foot in boot), defensive end David Perry (he was recently switched from tight end and had his left foot in a boot).

* We knew those two would be missing spring football, but we didn't know Kacy Rodgers II would come into spring football injured. Rodgers, not listed on the two-deep spring depth chart at safety, is recuperating from minor knee surgery, according to Golden. Rodgers was on the sideline and could not bend his left leg, keeping it very stiff when he walked. "That could be a little while longer, but we expect him to return.''

* Safety A.J. Highsmith, atop the depth chart, wore a red jersey Saturday for no contact. Golden said he has a "little hamstring" injury, but had a "tremendous offseason" and should be back when he's healed.

* Golden confirmed that linebacker Eddie Johnson is still suspended, and that he did not take part in the offseason UTough strength and conditioning program. Golden said he is "hopeful'' that Johnson will return, but unfortunately, the talented redshirt sophomore doesn't have a great track record.

"I'm hopeful. I pray for him everyday that we'll get through this and we'll make it back but it's on him to be honest with you. He has been suspended. He's on campus but he's suspended.'

* Position changes: former DE Tyriq McCord to outside linebacker -- "That's pretty much what he was before. He worked at open-side end or strongside-linebacker for us, and then obviously rushed the passer on third down.'' TE Dyron Dye to DE, where he started his career at UM -- "He had a really good offseason and he's really serious and focused right now.'' TE to DE David Perry -- "Perry is out right now, but he's a welcomed addition to defensive line. We couldn't do that a year ago because we couldn't do that a year ago because we didn't have [former DE and now TE) Jake O'Donnell over there and Beau Sandland and Stan Dobard over at tight end.

*RB Eduardo Clements: "We're hopeful [he returns]. Everything we understand is that he is healing and he should be able to return to the action, but that's out of my hands.''

*Rashawn Scott (previously suspended): "He did a good job and earned an orange shirt.''

*Stephen Morris: "Tremendous first day. He really must be studying the playbook like crazy. There's a self-assuredness, there's a confidence and there's a poise about him that he probably didn't have at this time last year.''

James Coley, the new offensive coordinator:

* On whether he is resorting back to the playbook they used last year or is incorporating his own plays: "It’s a little dabble of both. Football is football. We brought some new things in on Day One and kept some terminology to make it easier for the transition. But obviously we’ll be doing things the way it’s best for this team. So, as far as scheme, we’re going to use our personnel."

*On QB Stephen Morris: "Phenomenal. Sharp kid, a real good qb, a great leader. Things get taught and then he reteaches them."

*On RB Duke Johnson: "If you don’t use him you’re crazy. He’s a dynamic player. He’s explosive. He’s what you want in a guy with the ball in his hands. He changes the scoreboard."

* On any good natured ribbing from friends because he made the switch from FSU: "You can just imagine. It’s been crazy. But it’s all fun. I don’t take it personal. This is my team now and these guys are my players, our players. This is my family now."

*On being back where he grew up in Miami: "Great. I wish the Orange Bowl was still around. That’s a sentimental deal for me. It’s crazy driving by 95 and not seeing the Orange Bowl, you know what I mean? But it’s been good being back home. My dad came to practice today and that’s something I haven’t experienced in about seven years."

*On what his offensive philosophy might be with the Hurricanes: "I think it’s important, especially here, to create a vertical passing game because you have a big offensive line and you can create a vertical running game so I think they go hand in hand rather than dinking and dunking. I think there’s places for a dink and dunk offense but I think this offense needs to be an explosive offense.’’

Tight Ends coach Larry Scott:

*On his lineup of TEs: "They're talented. They do a good job of retaining information. [New junior-college transfer Beau Sandland] "catches the ball well, runs around well and he's focused.'' [Freshman Standish Dobard], as far as raw talent, it's all there. Once he gets it all and continues to learn and develop and mature he's going to be really good.''

Running backs coach Hurlie Brown:

*On Dallas Crawford: "Dallas is one of the hardest working guys I've been around. He works his butt off, he's extremely smart, he's up for it. He's very competitive and loves the game.''

*On transitioning from being a former DB coach: "Attention to detail. Coaching is coaching. As long as you're organized, and that's the biggest key, understanding what your role is and allowing those guys to perform. And teach -- I've got to study a lot more because it's new to me, but that's what you do as a coach.''

SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN (and thanks to correspondent Steph Rogers for plenty of help today!)

Calvin....you have no idea of what your talking about. I was in the locker room for an entire season in 89 when we won it all. I had the opportunity to see Jimmy "do his thing".....and AG is just like him.....trust me. AG speaks with conviction and is a great motivator. Jimmy was blessed to have the talent he had....it was MUCH different then it is today....trust me!!

Shannon recruited Morris because Whipple "loved him" and wanted him for his offense....Shannon recruted a buch of kids that were undisciplined.....and AG had to get rid of them. All the guys gone from AG.....where are they now?? Are they stars for another team? Kelvin Nelson? Storm Johnson? Anyone? Anyone?

Gallo = dumb
Calvin = clueless
Canetrash = slurp slurp slurp.....

Miami will now return home needing one win against Georgia Tech (Wednesday) or Clemson (Saturday) to secure the ACC title outright. It already claimed at least a share and the No. 1 seed in the league tournament.
////////////////////////////////

You see this, nobody's handing larranage anything, they on the verge of taking this thing out-right. This is not going to be where coach goldie is whispering to the team "you are the acc coastal division champs, something that hasn't happened here before" come on man, don't do that, that's not "Upholding the Legacy" that tarnishing it.

Also, here's a True sign of coach that understands what winning is all about and is a championship coach at heart, larranage taking george mason to the final four is proof of a real coach and is way more of an outstanding job than people trying to give goldie credit for what happened at temple when temple had the biggest budget in the mac conference and yet and still he never won a divison title their or even become close to being a dominant team their.

As much as i hate to do is, but osacr cryer showed how you are suppose to do it if you're Truly an up & coming headcoach when he was in the mac i don't see this coming out of coach goldie:
///////////////////////////////////////////

Bowling Green In 2001, Meyer took his first head coaching job at Bowling Green.[4] In his first season there, he engineered one of the greatest turnarounds in the NCAA football history, going 8–3 and capping off the season with a 56–21 victory over Bowling Green's rival, the University of Toledo Rockets.[15] He also earned Mid-American Conference coach of the year honors. The next year, Bowling Green finished with a 9–3 record.[15] After a 17–6 overall record, Meyer left for the University of Utah.[16]

He helped turn around a team that had gone 2–9 in 2000 in large part due to QB Josh Harris, who would be tailor made for Meyer's scheme. In part-time play in 2001, Harris would throw for 1,022 yards with 9 TD and also run for 600 yards and 8 TD. The next year he would throw for 2,425 yards with 19 TD and run for 737 yards with 20 TD. The performance of Harris at QB was largely a precursor to how Meyer would utilize such quarterbacks as Alex Smith and Tim Tebow down the road.
////////////////////////////////////

You don't see or hear of nowhere close to these kind of accolades for coach goldie. He gets here and doesn't upgrade the game planning and the game day coaching. Now he may have upgraded the operations and the organizational stuff because that's his strong points. He's implemented his ideology on where he envisions this football program being but none of that has been equating to on the field to football dominance

This is why you gotta have art kehoe here:
/////////////////////////////////////

The Miami years

Mario Cristobal knows the South Florida recruiting trails well.
Art Kehoe has been around the offensive line game long enough to know what it takes to motivate. He's spent 29 non-consecutive seasons working with UM offensive line talent, and remembers easily the day he went to Columbus some 25 years ago to determine whether Mario Cristobal had what it took.

"He was 6-4 and really a good athlete, but he wasn't the biggest guy and he was getting kind of bounced around. He was a great basketball player. But I liked his toughness, and we took him," Kehoe said. "He came here and played like he coaches today. Very determined, very tough, and he's a really intelligent guy."

A couple of years later, the Cristobal brothers made their permanent mark on the Hurricanes' bitter series with Florida State. With Lou being two years older than Mario, the brothers didn't often have occasion to start together at UM, but the 1990 FSU game was, for Kehoe, a memorable exception.

Florida State's vaunted defensive line was anchored by twins Henry and Joe Ostazewski, and Kehoe knew the brotherhood angle was just the bait to make the Cristobals bite.

"I was tormenting both of them the whole week, saying 'Well, my money's on them Ostazewskis against the Cristobals,'" Kehoe said. "We watched film and I said 'Man, look at them Ostazewskis. There's not a brother combination like them out there.' I never let up on it."

With the Cristobals starting beside each other, Mario at tackle and Lou at guard, the Hurricanes dominated up front and rushed for 334 yards in a 31-22 beating that thoroughly humbled one of the nation's top defenses. "They told me for the rest of their careers they didn't want to ever hear me talk about the Ostazewskis again," Kehoe said.

Why do ya'll engage in all these BS exchanges? The thing I'm concerned about is the Defensive Line! If we can rise to the top middle in total defense then a 10 win Coastal Division title is not unrealistic. A report of who beside the normal group of tackles are being used would be nice. Go Canes!

Robert Marve was a joke. He knew the rules. This wasn't Plant high School. The better talent started. Randy might not have fared well as the HC. He can judge talent.

Spoken with pure honesty and a fair assesment, shannon knew talent for sure but somehow these clowns keep saying goldie wasn't left with talent, lol.

Well than you should know better than most that what you just said is not True. How in the hell you gone compare this man to jimmy johnson when after the Fsu game he's telling the team "that's okay, they're a little bit ahead of us right now but i wouldn't trade this locker room for theirs"

Is that what you call motivating by conceding that another team is better than yours, when it was clear Fsu's coaching staff was better, not the players vs players comparison. That game was lost in the 4th quarter because of coaching, not the talent or the depth issues goldie tried to pass off.

goldie trying to pass off a hand-me-down coastal divison championship as some form of an accomplishment is High Treason in UM history. You know like alot of us, big east championships that were won with no doubt were used as door holders to let the wind come in during meetings, this guy goldie, at the rate he's going, if he ever messes around and gets an acc championship out-right, i'm afraid he might start making plans to ask the administration to put a statue of him out front!

Gallo has now fixated on Eddie Johnson as yet another way to disingenuously attack Coach Al Golden claiming he has wronged the kid, despite Johnson’s many serious team and school violations.

Coach Golden has publicly stated that he and many others are counseling and giving Eddie guidance and he is even praying that Eddie will get his act back together and be able to join the team. In other words; Golden and numerous other professionals employed by the University of Miami are doing everything possible to rehabilitate Eddie.

Unlike Gallo, Coach Golden’s concerns for Eddie are not just about him playing football for the Canes, but he is very concerned about the kid’s future after football.

Now Gallo is predicting that Johnson will transfer if he’s not allowed back on the team as if this is a brilliant conclusion on his part or a Nostradamus type of prediction.

NEWS FLASH FOR GALLO; when kids are dismissed from teams at every other university they typically transfer to another school hoping to still play football. Unfortunately, most of those kids having not corrected their behavioral problems and almost invariably fail at the next school. So yes, Eddie will transfer if Miami doesn’t allow him back on the team…duh!

If Miami coaches and administrators followed Gallo’s backwards thinking professional criminal and part time linebacker and currently jailed Willie Williams would have never been punished for his crimes and only rewarded.

If Gallo had his way no UM football players would ever be disciplined, they would question Coach Golden on his every decision and all seriously injured players would be practicing and playing, and if not so, that’s Al Golden’s fault and means he’s not qualified to coach the Canes.

Joe was the same dude that said JJ wasn't as good as advertised and that his assistant coaches did all the coaching. This is a coach that won more at the next level than he did here. Before you try to say you didnt ask Susan and manny to pull it up and verify it.

It really doesn't matter what any of us say about golden. They are not going to coach any better based on what we say about him and his staff. This is a blog and people can write whatever they want to. What goes on here is that the so called fans want to insult people based on their opinions with no knowledge to back it up.thats fine though but there are some of us that know what's going on and will continue to write about wrong or right.

U cant do the urban meyer comparisons either like above posts. Ron zook for 3-4 years landed #1 and top 5 classes and left Urban a loaded gator team when he took over...
Again, Nick Saban lost 6 games his 1st year at alalabama and didnt have to deal with 2 more years of looming sanctions.
3. We had basically no Sr's last year, and thats on Randy Shannon. If each class was recruited propertly ,U will always have a nice mix of players....

U idiots are going to look stupid when the canes have a solid yr. They have too much talent on this team not to have a good year, especailly getting Va Tech and the gators at home..........
Some of the fans were trying to run Jimmy Johnson out of town after the 1st 2 years, losing 5 games and giing up 35-45 points regularly, and then gettin smacked in the bowl game in year 2 by Tennessee. But he was playing Young talent and building depth. And in year 3 for Jimmie(86) it call came together.........

hear the words"""explosive offense"" and get used to that.. ....Morris beat Kosars record, Duke beat POrtis's recrod, and the entire offense is back and we added the TE position, something lacking. Juco #1 TE, Derrick Griffin the #1 player in TX, and Deep threat Stacey Coley make this team on offense possibly the best cane offense ever.
RB depth is loaded also now with the 2 freshman comin in august...........theres no weaknesses

Gallo Calvin, Trash,Haters, get to know the name is C A N E S CANES..............

Its called A LOADED TEAM READY TO MAKE THE NEXT JUMP!
All thos close games, playing 3 top 10 teams last year and 2 losses by 5 points, not many people played 3 top 10 teams at the time(No Dame,KST,FSU) and the 41-10 loss to UVA and 18-14 loss to UNC, miami also was in the FSU game till late in 3rd qtr. All that with feshman dbs, 2nd string DT's, 3rd string LB's,,,,,,,,,,

WHen Healthy, we have the #1 offense in college football and possibly Miami history(no one cant deny that) and D tackles 8-9 deep now, healthy LB"s, and a much improved secondary. And also DE's pretty deep now.

No more having to bring in freshman as backups. Now, this summer, maybe a few play but we have depth . Plus, Golden redshirted alot of kids last year also.

HURRICANE WARNING BABY

41-40 uva game

What game were you watching. We have a very good offense if we catch the ball you can't talk about being great unless you are fundamentally sound. We could not or did not run the ball enough to have the best offense in the country. Yeah duke was good but other than that we could not run the ball whenever we wanted to. We have the talent to be the best offense in the country but we have to prove it first. We need to catch the ball and run the ball whenever we want to be considered the best offense in the country. Defensively we were at the bottom and defense wins championships. We have a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball to win the acc let alone a national championship. Lets not get ahead of ourselves here. We were 7-5 with some blowouts by teams that were not that good. We got blown out by notre dame and they looked like garbage after having two backs run right at them for a buck apiece against a defense that dominated us. If we can stop the run we will not be nc caliber. We have a lot of potential we should beat every team on the schedule but we have a ton of work to do and then we need some good fortune as well.

Calvin....give it a rest oh great one and all knowing, all seeing football expert. Where have you been all these years while the U struggled, why haven't you been hired seeing as you have all the answers and know better than Golden and all his staff put together, why doesn't the Herald hire you to write about coaching, play calling, recruiting and how to deal with the troubled players. You and Gallo would equal 12-0 every year and multiple national championships. Why oh why won't anyone listen to your wisdom and knowledge, instead you are one crying in the wilderness and no one listens! Such a tragedy for us all!

Potential Tally Cane. but My point was that Morris broke Kosars record, duke broke portis record, all wr's are back and add Griffin and Coley (rank 2,3 on espn wr list), and The #1 juco TE and another TE. Now we have moved Dye back to DE, who was an espn 150 DE in high school, added Alquaddin Muhammed at De, and If, if if, the Sr DT's stay healthy, porter robinson and pierre, with Grimble, 3 DT's from last year Ivery Briscoe and Moore, and the JUCO transfer Komalu, we can finally rotate DT's like the old canes used to......
Should be a good year, but now having TIGHT END weapons, it should open up the wr's even moore, and all of the WR's are back plus the 2 new studs.

Duke has 2 backups in Mr Football in Tenn, #1 ny RB Edwards, Crawford, Dillard, n Clements.

We finally have a deep rotation so when the stars come out, the same quality talent goes in and rests them

Maybe if Shannon knew how to handle Marve he would've been a better player, right Calvin.

Gallo

Our discussion ended when you called me an idiot.

Our bashers dont like to know that even tho we had pending sanctions golden landed a blue chip rosters with premier players at positions of need.......

Joe was the same dude that said JJ wasn't as good as advertised and that his assistant coaches did all the coaching. This is a coach that won more at the next level than he did here. Before you try to say you didnt ask Susan and manny to pull it up and verify it.

LOL, say it ain't so joe. Anybody trying to compare coach goldie at this point to jimmy johnson, really don't know jimmy johnson, lol. jimmy johnson would've fire his closet family member had they had the 117th ranked defense in the nation and been giving up over 500 yards of offense on a regular basis. Yet you keep hearing in interviews by coach goldie and protege #117, we held them to only a fieldgoal in the 2nd half, or only 1 touchdown in the 2nd half, lol. Trying to pass off this coward's defensive scheme to a City that knows exactly what defense is.

You can pay a team no higher compliment than when bobby bowden said on instinct when he said "The way Miami plays defense, they play defense like they invented the daggum thang".

Than he quickly realized he didn't want to leave his boy(coach andrews)out and said "now we play real good defense too coach andrew and the boys"

I wonder what coach bobby would say now watching a UM game, even he'd be sick to his stomach like many of us, i turn the channel when we're on defense many games.

ANYONE WHO WATCHED THE CANE BASKETBALL GAME YESTERDAY CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT MIAMI IS A BETTER TEAM THAN DUKE. YES DUKE IS A GOOD TEAM BUT IT TOOK A MIRACULOUS PERFORMANCE BY KELLY TO WIN. DESPITE HIS PERFORMANCE HAD MIAMI NOT TURNED THE BALL OVER THEY COULD EASILY HAVE TIED OR TAKEN THE LEAD. WITH 1.55 LEFT DUKE HAD A 10-POINT LEAD AND MIAMI SHOWED THAT ON A NEUTRAL COURT DUKE CANNOT BEAT THEM. THE ANNOUNCERS CAN BREATHE A SIGH OF RELIEF SINCE THEY WERE PRAYING THE CANES LOSE. SO WHAT! WIN ONE OF THE NEXT TWO (BOTH AT HOME) AND THEY ARE ACC CHAMPS! GET USE TO SAYING THAT BECAUSE THE FOOTBALL TEAM IS NOT FAR FROM THE SAME FEAT! GO CANES ACC CHAMPS IN BASKETBALL AND FOOTBALL IN 2013.!!!

f.....randy shannon lets keep the white guy in.

The Miami Herald and thier garbage repotters- no update on Miami baseball. No tweets, no posts.

Does anyone know the score of game 3?

Calvin-

Yeah Wuipple was bad- But did he throw the 2 pick sixes against Clemson, the 3 picks against Ohio State (one a pick six) and the 4 picks against Notre Dame?

Jacorry Harris threw more pick sixes than any QB in Miami history

U cant compare the 2 era's , jimmie inherited a loaded team from schnellenberger and in the 1st yr jimmy lost 5 games , gave up 47 pts in the hail flutie game, 39 pts in fiesta bowl that year, lost a 31-0 halftime lead vs maryland. It takes a few years to build your team, your depth, your philosophies. Without sanctions looming, Jimmy had more talent to work with than golden and didnt have to play freshman DB's, 3rd string LB's, and back up DT's in his 2nd year. Its a fact that golden did not have a big depth chart when randy left.

You want to compare era's, compare Schnellenger in 1979 when he took over the program. It too him in his 5th year to get the team rolling.
Butch Davis didnt get the canes rolling until 2000, and he took over in 95......Goldens recruting has this cane team ahead of the curve with the depth we have now.

Calvin- Read Dom's post. Thenshut up. Forever. Unless you have something smart to post.

This is my official first FIRE MORRIS post of the year.

Last year I must have posted that 100 times.

UF loses 2 at home to FGCU. Morris can't even take the series.

Morris is plain overrated. Stale. He has worn his welcome. By 5 years. Morris can no longer recruit, coach or prepare CWS teams. Please, can anyone tell me how Morris is still baseball coach at Miami???????????

Despite what everyone knows about Coker's recruiting- he took Miami to 2 national championships, 3 consecutive top 5 rankings, never lost to UF in 2 tries, and went 4-2 in bowls, 2-1 in BCS bowls.

Fire Morris.com

We lost 6 to 3

I'm not sure if he left a team loaded with talent. Miami lost to FAMU one of those years. That is not important any way it what you do with the team you have. Coaches still have to coach and the dc did not have good schemes or good play calling.

If there was ever to be an intelligent argument for a new UM coach it would only involve Jim Morris. The weeekend series was a disaster with the same mistakes we've seen the last 5 or 6 years that allowed a team that doesn't nearly have the talent of Miami to win the series. Additionally, Morris insists on playing small ball and consistently takes the bat out of the hands of his more accomplished hitters. The errors and lack of composure is stunning, especially when considering the Canes baseball legacy.

You can't compare JJ to any coach. He won at the U and left two championship for Erickson and then went and turned the cowboys into a dynasty after they had been very low for some years. He also left a championship team for Switzer. Please stop using JJ with any comparisons to golden.

first of all Shannon hade no choice but to use jacory.....in 2007 we had Kyle wright and Kirby freeman...2 disaster's also....then in 2008 comes marve and throws 213/116 for 1293 TD's but is getting intercepted with 13....so now comes jacory and does good at 194/118 1195 and 12 TD's but only 7 Int's.....that's is why Shannon was rotating...

now comes 2009....Shannon only had jacory....and now come mark whipple....he was a disaster also....it was his job to rein in jacroys 17 Int's that year but the guy still threw 3252 yards and 24 TD's (morris this year was 3342 and 21 TD's)....so as you can see what was Shannon supposed to do? bench harris....don't be a child...2010 Shannon recruits morris and transitions him in with harris's injury...whippple still a disaster....then before shannon can make a change...Shalala fires him.....

golden walks in with all the dirty work done for him....but then fires his best players with eddie Johnson the next to get a pink slip.......

"I pray it works out"...give me a f...cking break...golden is Oscar material, all he needs is a red carpet

dom, i'm glad you brought up the points jimmy johnson's team gave up in his 1st year, why did you not add what happened to the defensive staff after jimmy's first year, or do you not know what happened.

It keeps being said that goldie wasn't handed alot of talent ok:
brandon harris (2nd round)
travis benjamin (4th round)
spence(3rd round)
olvier vernon(3rd round)
lamar miller(4th round one of the steals of the draft)
"touchdown tommy" steeter(6ht round)

In the nfl:
regis
forston
laron byrd
brandon washington
ojomo
jojo nicolas
tyler horn

Then if you count the players who's draft status goldie ruined, he was left with alot of nfl talent to work with and still layed an egg with it!

6 & 6 than 7 & 6, lol, compare that record to what shannon was left with and the schedules he has to face.

Joe: your also full of sh..t...JJ is nowhere like golden....here are 4 very good reasons

1. in his documentary when he talked about how he told a 3rd tier player on the cowboys team to clean out his locker for sleeping during film...he was asked what if it was troy...he said "that's easy, I'd walk up to him a say...troy wake up"......golden lets good guys go....ray-ray, Paul, finnie and now Johnson will be next

2. anyone that came in #117 in any category out o 120 would be told to have his #117 season in the parking lot....no way would JJ have that guy here....golden wont part with him

just because golden with the key west and spend a day on JJ's boat....dosent make him JJ...

3. JJ would nave never self sanctioned....he was always fired on all 8's 24/7....remember him always getting accused of running up the score?

4. JJ encouraged "thug" football because basically JJ was a thug also...golden is a prep school type coach...

like Tolbert Bain said....."jimmy knew what those living rooms looked like in liberty city"

Hope Coach Coley can get the most out of the Canes Offense. If the WR s are improved.......Morris will have an outrageous year and so wil the Canes. The Defense MUST show overall improvement ....PERIOD.I m just curious to see if Duke s battery mate will be Dallas Crawford or Danny Dillard.I keep thinking Dillard MAY be special but Golden never mentions the kids name and that s NOT good.Either of the 2 NEW incoming 4/5 star recruits (depending on who rates them)at RB also could be an explosive surprise too.Glad we at least got the late 2 RB signees to provide possible upgrades/quality RB depth.Miami looks loaded "on Offense" this year.On Defense.....hopefully they won t keep embarrassing us.

dom: you keep talking about now we are deep at the TE position...we were always deep there:

clive walford
dyron dye
asante Cleveland
david perry
cory white
Andrew tallman - golden casualty
billy snaders - golden casualty

how many more TE's does a team need?

2012 we ran 818 plays..ONLY 31 were to the TE..fisch underutilized the TE....that's less than 4%

so it doesn't matter how many players we have or what jr college they played at...the coley vs jedd offense will be VERY interesting....when does jim throw the fisch offensive playbook in lake Osceola

. JJ encouraged "thug" football because basically JJ was a thug also...golden is a prep school type coach...

like Tolbert Bain said....."jimmy knew what those living rooms looked like in liberty city"

This is one of the biggest differences, jimmy would come to Liberty City and he'd damyum near go in your refrigerator without asking cause that's how comfotable he was in that environment.

goldie wearing a tie and dress shirt lol, barely getting kids from the City like he's suppose to, keep going to tampa, we'll see come this year though, all i'm looking for is real defense, the offense will take care of it's self, but you not winning no championships being an offense first type of team ask west virginia and clemson how that turned out.

3. JJ would nave never self sanctioned....he was always fired on all 8's 24/7....remember him always getting accused of running up the score?

And of course this one right here, jimmy could careless and would've ran those cowards off campus.

Couldn't have said it better, that defense was so bad, even our opponents fans were embarassed for us. Commentators who called our games often times just kept in line with that old saying "if you don't have nothing good to say than don't say nothing at all".

I mean, every time i think about the defense, and IT'S NOT THE PLAYERS, i get sick to my stomach, 117th, until that changes to us being in the top 35 in all categories it's going to be this way and if goldie wants to keep making roster moves to try and help buy his boy more time and to so they can have an excuse as if we don't see these "self inflicted" decisions by goldie, it's time to start playing real defense or time to get out of town.

The excuse about us not playing that much man defense because you don't want your db's backs turned in a run breaks is about as pathetic of an explanation about defense as i've ever heard. Than to say it when you're sitting at a school that has over a mile of game film to prove it, somebody has to be ridiculous minded to say that being on staff at Miami.

" you play like huricanes..you pour it on and never let up until the end of the game"

Jimmy J

golden is nowhere near that.....you cant be like that if you rid the team of finnie - paul - ray-ray and Johnson types....you have to be thug to play thug football....posers don't work

I'm watching "a football like - jimmy Johnson on utube as I am blogging....you feel like crying seeing what we were and what we have become....

"let the mind control the body...not the body control the mind"

the best

Rivals.com dang near have a 2 page article on Mario Cristobal all because he is with the TIDE,,where was that article when he was with the Canes..Nick Saban go after Miami coaches to keep a foot in south florida recruiting..

It is impossible to keep up with Gallo's lies!

First Gallo lie correction...Whipple recruited Morris and literally had to beg Randy to sign the kid.

Second Gallo lie correction...as an elemenatry school kid Duke was all Cane--suggesting Randy Shannon had to recruit him is absurd...and a lie!

Jimmy Johnson loves Al Golden and has stated time and again that "Big Al" is the man for the incredibly difficult Miami job and will bring the Canes back after the Coker and Shannon debacles and the brutally damaging NCAA investigation.

If you don't believe in Al Golden...then you don't believe Jimmy Johnson knows what he's talking about.

Calvin and Gallo- Your non sense spewing is over the top.

Nonsense
