McGee becomes first Cane drafted, goes in 5th round to Rams

Brandon McGee's NFL dreams came true Saturday afternoon when the St. Louis Rams took him with the 16th pick in the fifth round, 149th overall.

McGee, a two-year starter at cornerback for the Hurricanes, was the first UM player taken in this year's NFL Draft. He was the 22nd cornerback taken off the board.

McGee, a former standout at nearby Plantation High School, started all 12 games as a senior and finished tied for sixth on team with 54 tackles and tied for the team lead with two INTs. After the season he was the recipient of the Captain's Award and Plumer Award for Leadership, Motivation and Spirit.

Mike James, who rushed for career-best 621 yards and 6 TDs on 147 attempts as a senior, is likely the next Hurricane who will get drafted. So far, 13 running backs have been taken off the board through about 150 picks.

"We're excited to see some of our guys get drafted here in the next couple days," UM coach Al Golden said earlier this week. "Our staff is working hard to make those that don't get drafted get great free agent opportunities."

Clearly if High School kids want to play Top College Football and go to the Pros, Florida and FSU are the places to go.

Let's wait for next year which team will get more in the NFL.

Classic!
"Let's wait for next year" now also applies to placing players in the NFL.
Used to be the hope that a new year would bring some winning, some relevance. Now is "next year we will have more players drafted"
The 5 year streak lives on
The 21st Century has left the canes behind

I can see another diminutive Gator is hoping for approval by his superiors--The Miami Hurricanes.

If the little girl only knew how ridiculous it is to come on the NFL "U" blog and beat on her puny chest because a few Gators were drafted only to never be heard from again, which history proves is a Gator NFL tradition.

The University of Miami's football program has set countless records in producing players who go on to the National Football League. The Hurricanes hold the record for most players selected in the first round in a single draft, most first-round draft picks in a two-year period, most first-round draft picks in a three-year period, and most first-round picks in a four-year period. For a 14-year period Miami had at least one player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. The Canes are one of the NFL's all-time leaders in the number of draft picks with 307.

The Hurricanes hold the most prestigious of all NFL records that will never be broken—they went an unbelievable, dominating, never before seen, 149 consecutive regular season weeks where a former Miami Hurricane scored a touchdown in an NFL game. During the streak, 33 different former Hurricanes scored touchdowns and a total of 661 touchdowns were scored.

As of the 2012 NFL season, UM had the most players active in the NFL of any university in the nation, with 53.

Of course the Canes have numerous NFL Hall of famers…Jim Otto, Ted Hendricks, Jim Kelly, Michael Irvin, Cortez Kennedy, Warren Sapp and soon to be first ballot selections Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Also, Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne will be Hall of Famers as well…it’s a Cane thing baby!

BREAKING BULLETIN:

Jim Harbaugh just said on ESPN that Miami Hurricane great Frank Gore is a future NFL Hall of Famer...add him to the list!

MIKE JAMES TO THE BUCS--

NFL- U.

Dont forget that recruits.

2011- Graig Cooper
2012- Lamar Miller
2013- Mike James

You're right! My Bad! I forgot the great Edgerrin James and soon to be NFL Hall of Famer...adding him to the list!!!

There is a saying "never argue wit idiots, they only bring you down to there level, then beat you wit experience.....so canes, please NEVER argue with gators the very best they have to offer is Tim Tebow,,,,Tim freakin Tebow enough said lmao

And the Canes had an NFL record 10 starters in the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl. Think about that...22 of the best starters in the NFL and the Canes boasted 10 of them...wow!...wow!...wow!

Also, as these great Hall of Famers were introduced they all flashed the "U".

Conversely, one of the few Gators to achieve much of anything in the NFL was Emmitt Smith who refused to even mention the cowardly Gators in his Hall of Fame acceptance speech and has routinely told former Canes that his biggest regret is not being a part of the great Miami tradition...but wait...the Gators had some players drafted in this NFL draft--most of which will not even make the traveling squad...it's a Gator thang baby!

Ahhhh the good ole days clucks.

FLORIDA IS DOMINATING THE NFL DRAFT

Yo stupid! You're not smart enough to realize you've been crushed on this blog, which is exactly what happens any time a cowardly Gator stupidly tries to challenge a Cane. Continuing to post stupidity and lies will not help you.

So you say Florida is dominating the NFL draft? Well here's what Mike Baylock thinks of your domination of the draft...

Highly respected NFL Network draft "insider" Mike Mayock slammed University of Florida defensive tackle Sharif Floyd as he slid down the draft board on Thursday night. Mayock, questioned Floyd's integrity and work ethic saying he'd received numerous texts from NFL sources citing very serious concerns about Floyd for a number of reasons and also real uneasiness about the fact that he only had five college sacks. This kid may not even make an NFL roster.

...There's your Gator dominance of the NFL draft you fool! It also is a reflection of your Gator football program.

Oh yeah...Louisville just scored again!!! LOL!

On September 7th we're gonna beat your arses in the parking lot, in the stands and on the field! We are waiting for you girls!

Could you Turds be more annoying...are you serious? There is no way in hell your even close to catching up th the Canes as far as the draft and NFL go....WE HAD 6 GO IN THE FIRST ROUND ONE YEAR....YOU WILL NEVER MATCH THAT....EVEN DURIN TIMMY TEARS TENURE YOU COULD NOT PLACE 6 IN THE FIRST ROUND.....HAHA...STOP EMBARRASING YOURSELFS HERE!!

If you want to go to the pro's join the gators and Seminoles. If you want to be a pro and have a long pro career maybe a hall of famer. The hurricanes is the place to go.

Brandon McGee had no right to be disappointed when he wasn't drafted earlier....as badly as he performed for us, he should count himself lucky. He's a carryover from the Randy Shannon famine.

The pattern of ineptness continues. From the owner who brought you the orange carpet, C-list celebrity owners, T-Pain's awful fight song and male cheerleaders comes a draft with 4 Gatr maggots.

What do all of those things have in common? Tacky, over-rated and none of which will help the Dolphins win.

Deal with it, Gatr Trash.

The only person that I want gone in any sport is Jeffrey Loria and he owns the team, so I hope that he sells the team and I mean soon. Now as regards UM, Blake James needs to take a serious look at the baseball program and it's leadership under Jim Morris.

Coach Morris has won 2 championships with the team and that does account for something, even though the last was 12 years ago. The situation is though that this program (which was a powerhouse a whole decade before UM football was) is now an after thought in the ACC and is celebrating wins over Bethune Cookman. Bethune Cookman, are you kidding me? The low point this season had to be to lose 2 games to Boston College. The thing is that Boston College did not win any games in the ACC till they beat UM TWICE this weekend!

Again, not saying Morris needs to go, but something either recruiting wise or coaching wise has to change, UM football and basketball are on the rise, while UM baseball is in a free fall and is falling way behind the pack in the ACC and nationally.

The only problem with this baseball team is recruiting. High level baseball isplayed

The only problem with this baseball team is high level baseball is being played all over the state of Florida at all levels. So why are you recruiting basically one high school and one area year after year. Recruit all over the state and not just one area. If you can't then just step down.
