Testaverde latest Hurricane headed to College Football Hall of Fame

Heisman trophy winning Hurricanes quarterback Vinny Testaverde will be one of 14 former players and coaches who will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2013 class.

The National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame made the joint announcement Monday during the telecast of College Football Live on ESPN. The remainder of the 14-member FBS class will be announced Tuesday at noon press conference from the NASDAQ OMX Market Site in New York City.

Testaverde was Miami’s first Heisman Trophy winner in 1986 and led the Hurricanes to three bowl berths. He went 23-3 as a starter playing for legendary coaches Howard Schnellenberger and Hall of Famer Jimmy Johnson.

The Bucs picked Testaverde as the No. 1 overall selection in the 1987 NFL Draft, and his pro career spanned 21 seasons with seven different teams. The 1998 All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowl selection finished his NFL career seventh all-time in passing yards (46,233) and eighth in touchdowns (275).

He remains among only four Hurricanes to have their jerseys retired at Miami.

Testaverde will become sixth Miami Hurricane player and 10th overall to be enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame. He joins: Bennie Blades (2006), Don Bosseler (1990), Andy Gustafson (1985), Jack Harding (1980), Ted Hendricks (1987), Jimmy Johnson (2012), Russell Maryland (2011), Gino Torretta (2009) and Arnold Tucker (2008).

The 2013 College Football Hall of Fame FBS Class will be inducted Dec. 10, 2013, at the 56th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. They will be honored guests Jan. 2, 2014, at the National Hall of Fame Salute in New Orleans at the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Bob Stoops: SEC's strength is 'propaganda'

Big 12 Conference schools and others around the nation don't have to close some mythical gap.

"Well, it depends on what gap you're talking about," Stoops said. "What are the bottom six doing?"

That's a fair point.

Four of those bottom six did so poorly last year that their coaches got fired. The year before, two SEC coaches were canned. The year before that, it was three.

The only new coach in the Big 12 this season is at Texas Tech, where it seems Tommy Tuberville found himself a better fit in Cincinnati.

Stoops is right: the SEC is not great from top to bottom--it's not even close.

"So they've had the best team in college football," Stoops said. "They haven't had the whole conference. Because, again, half of 'em haven't done much at all. I'm just asking you. You tell me."

Supposed powerhouse LSU only beat Ole Miss by six points? Well, that's because Ole Miss is in the SEC. That makes them great. Sure, they had to win a bowl game just to finish above .500, but that's because they're in the SEC...it's a joke or even a lie or propaganda.

And pay no mind to the inconvenient fact that Ole Miss was plowed at The Grove by some team from Texas - oh, wait, it WAS Texas, the fifth- or sixth-best team in the Big 12 Conference last year. Yeah, best ignore that one.

And conference runner-up Georgia only beat Kentucky by five points? Well, that's because Kentucky is in the SEC, and, by gosh if you don't already know this one, that makes them pretty great, too. They didn't have a winning record, either - OK, they went 2-10, which included 0-8 against the SEC - but hey, it's the SEC.

And please don't look over there where it says Kentucky was routed by cross-state rival Louisville. Or the one where it says the Wildcats lost in overtime to I-AA Western Kentucky. Here's another well kept secret, the media over celebrated Florida Gators were demolished by Louisville...oops!

Surely, Stoops' point is clear now.

"It depends on who you want to listen to," Stoops said. "Listen, they've had the best team in college football, meaning they've won the national championship. That doesn't mean everything else is always the best."

Really, there is no more debate that the SEC is college football's King Kong. It is. But while the natives may blindly worship their giant ape, not every school is a 40-foot gorilla with its own island--it's not even close.

The SEC has had some amazing good fortune during its seven-year conquest.

In 2006, Florida ridiculously jumped Michigan for the No. 2 spot in the BCS title game after voters decided against an Ohio State-Michigan rematch. And even then Florida backed into the championship game due to a patch of luck never seen before and with the help of to say the least--a favorable schedule.

In 2007, two-loss LSU jumped five spots after No. 2 West Virginia was upset by rival Pittsburgh and No. 1 Missouri was trounced by Oklahoma.

In 2008, Tim Tebow's "Braveheart" speech captured voters' imagination after an inexplicable midseason home loss to Ole Miss. Here again some crafty scheduling by Florida played a huge role in their season.

In 2010, well, Auburn had Cam Newton.

The gap, Stoops believes, is not as wide as everyone thinks.

"So you're listening to a lot of propaganda that gets fed out to you," he said. "You're more than smart enough to figure it out. Again, you can look at the top two, three, four, teams, and you can look at the bottom five, six, seven, eight, whatever they are. How well are they all doing?

"What'd we (the Big 12) have, eight of 10 teams in bowl games this year? Again, you figure it all out."

63 Players Drafted in 2013 NFL Draft, more than TWICE of ANY other Conference...

Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops' Shot at the SEC Is Way off Base

Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops has kept himself in the headlines this offseason.

From voicing his opposition to paying players (via Yahoo Sports) to saying that media members shouldn't have a role in the playoff selection committee (via newsok.com), Stoops has welcomed a hot mic with open arms.

This time, though, he's gone too far.

Speaking to a crowd at a Sooner Caravan stop, Stoops took aim at the SEC's power, which he sees as more myth than reality.

Stoops apparently forgot that the last time his football team set foot on the field, it was smoked 41-13 by the SEC's fourth- or fifth-best team Texas A&M in a game that saw Aggie quarterback Johnny Manziel roll up a Cotton Bowl-record 516 yards.

Stoops—a man who coaches in a conference where 40 percent of its members finished with seven or fewer wins—is complaining about the back end of the SEC, even though 43 percent of the SEC finished with seven or fewer wins last season.

You want to talk about depth at the back end? Seems pretty even to me.

He also forgot that his conference features 1-11 Kansas and that the SEC finished with six teams ranked in the top 12 of the final USA Today Coaches' Poll.

Really, Bob?

Let's go down the standings and compare teams, shall we? Would Texas Tech—the Big 12's sixth-best team in 2012—have topped South Carolina last year?

Nope. That's laughable.

How about 6-7 Iowa State—which finished ninth in the Big 12—versus 7-6 and ninth-place Ole Miss?

Not a chance.

Throwing out Missouri since it wasn't a member until 2012, in the three-year period from 2009 to 2011, the SEC's bottom five teams in 2012 were a combined 110-82, 5-4 in bowl games and won one national championship.

No propaganda there. Just facts.

Stoops' comments are dripping with envy and jealousy, bordering on rage. That makes sense, though, considering the man once known as "Big Game Bob" has failed on the game's biggest stages, most notably in this year's Cotton Bowl against former Big 12 rival Texas A&M and against Florida in the 2009 BCS National Championship Game following the 2008 season.

Maybe Stoops should focus more on his team living up to the hype that follows it seemingly every offseason before complaining about the hype the SEC has earned over the last seven years.

.

So Stoops decides to whip up the Sooner fan base during a Booster speech to make the Dumb Okies think that they're closer to SEC Schools than actual reality...

Gee, sounds like some o[]_[]t of to[]_[]ch, del[]_[]sional d[]_[]mb Cl[]_[]ck fans have been drinking the same rancid Kool-Aid the last Decade...

But by all means, []_[] keep quoting other Coaches, Teams and Conferences to do for []_[] what []_[] and []_[]r Pathetic Athletically Challenged Conference Can NOT do for []_[]r or themselves...

Let me concede that, like Stoops, many of people suffer from SEC-fatigue. We hear and read about it so much, a backlash was only natural, no matter what your allegiances. But as hard as they may be to swallow, facts are facts, Bob, and there’s no propaganda here:

The SEC has won a galactic-record seven national titles in a row, and eight of the last 10. You might remember the first of the eight, Bob. That was you and LSU in the Superdome.

Four different SEC teams won the eight titles. Over the last 13 years, only two Big 12 teams have won it all, and they’re the only ones to play in BCS title games over that span. Talk about top-heavy leagues.

Last season, the top six teams in the SEC were 30-0 against the bottom eight, which would seem to support Stoops’ theory about overall strength. Until you consider that those top six teams finished in the top 14 spots of the final AP poll. With so many powerhouses to play every week, the bottom is bound to suffer.

Four of the five SEC teams that didn’t go to a bowl game last year? Missouri, Auburn, Arkansas and Tennessee. Not exactly lightweights. Auburn won a national title a couple of years ago, Tennessee is only a good coach away from returning to national prominence, and Arkansas might have made a run last year if Bobby Petrino could stay off motorcycles. The fifth team was Kentucky, a basketball school. The Big 12 has one, too. It’s called Kansas.

Judging on talent alone, which is also how teams win, consider that a record 63 SEC players were taken in the NFL draft, which was a quarter of the players chosen overall and twice as many as any other league. Jerry Jones took one, and not until the sixth round. Maybe this tells you all you need to know.

Not to get too personal, Bob, but you haven’t beaten an SEC team in 10 years, since before Nick Saban reinvented Alabama. You’ve lost to LSU and Florida in national title games, and you got rolled by Johnny Football in JerryWorld. He’s probably still running wild in your nightmares.

You can hate the SEC because it always dominates the football conversation, but you can’t knock the football. All you have to do to appreciate it is watch.

Loyalists of other leagues will concede that the SEC is great but argue that college football is cyclical. Yes, it is. The Romans and Greeks went through nice cycles, too, only they called them dynasties.

One of these days the SEC might not win a national title, and then coaches from other leagues can talk. Until then, Bob and other SEC haters best just to bite their tongues.

SEC- Top heavy and overrated.

There is no question Bama is number 1.

BUt lost in the hype and propaganda is the fact that Clemson beat LSU. There was ZERO HYPE about that.

Kentucky
Ole Miss
Mizzou
Auburn
Tennessee
Miss State

Seriously. Stoops has a very good point- but nothing new we all new that.

LMFAO......started spouting off at 3am and did not stop till six. Word of warning. When you stop for your morning coffee at 7-11 DO NOT use the rest room. The night crew was to preoccupied to get them cleaned.

Excellent points, the truth is obvious, the facts are undeniable, the SEC is top to bottom the best in the Universe. Thing is, you are dealing with a bunch of bitter, delusional and envious cane clucks who have been blind to reality for the past decade.
Just look at this "BUt lost in the hype and propaganda is the fact that Clemson beat LSU."
There is no hype, just truth
There is no propaganda, just facts
Clemson did beat LSU in a bowl game. Clemson also lost to USC before that.
Wake got crushed by Vandy
FSU got steamrolled by UF
Georgia killed GaTech
And so it goes, the delusional fool brings up one example yet ignores 4 other ones.

hey doossch bag- not the first time an ACC teamput a beatdown on an overhyped SEC team. But I will mention the 2011 beatdown that FSU put on your turds and that little matter of Louisville (Big Least) basically emasculating your ranked gaytrds

Yep doUchebag you forgot that once in the 1960s UM beat an SEC team, that UM was a winning team in the 80s and 90s and that in 2001 UM sent a bunch of players to the NFL.
Used to be. Once upon a time. Past tense. Ancient history.
No more. Not in the 21rst century. Has been over a decade. No ACC ships ever, not even show up for the ship game, ever. No bowl victories in the past 5 years. No players taken in the first round in 5 years. Also ran. Mediocre.
That is your reality today.

No doosh bag- the canes beat arkansas, So carolina and UF in 1987- the year they beat oklahoma, FSU, and Notre dame as well.

Not to mention the 3 beatdowns the U put on your mighty gators in 2000, 2001, and 2004. eah so UM played Tennessee and LSU and got beat. They are 1-1 against LSU in the last 20 yrs and they destroyed Tennessee in 2002 in in front of 104,000 rabid rednkcs!

Good luck finding an SEC EVER going undefeated with a schedule like that.

Now, they play the likes of Furman and FAU. yeah. Tough SEC schedule- when an SEC team plays 2-10 Kentucky they still say, hey its an SEC schedule.

Your delusional and 90% of the country knows how fos you pu55ies are.

Man, this guy completely GUTS the canes and this 952 nimrod strolls in and says "yup Clemson beat LSU." So are you saying the ACC is a superior football conference? You ain't so bright sunshine. You dumb cl[]_[]cka love to say the SEC receives ESPN hype. Yet when the
Money is on the table the SEC crushes the other conferences over and over and over. That's when []_[] put your blinders on.

It's amazing that such a has been program has fans that still blabber on about how great they are. YOU'RE NOTHING. You have ZERO SIGNATURE WINS yet you are building something????????? All teams on the rise have signature wins. []_[]

What do []_[] have really? Aged glory that today's recruits don't care about? Bingo! You certainly don't have your massive HGH advantage that you built everything on. What's that? It wasn't HGH, it was swagger? Okay fools, keep your head right where it's been for a decade. In the sand.

No doosh bag- the canes beat arkansas, So Carolina...... Blah blah blah.

In fact, i think louisville, of the mighy big east just scored another TD on the mighty sec gators. How effen embarassing

But thats ok, if you beat 2-10 uk, or 3-9 auburn, its awesome bc theyre from the SEc

Trouble is, the mighty gators also beat mighty jacksonville state, mighty toledo, and mighty louisiana lafayette.

And now you have joke keem noah babbling and getting harassed by old ladies.

Wow its so great to be a floriduh gatlr

9-7-13

b[]_[]h

30/30 was on last night - The U.....it is so obvious how the current canes are lazy and not thirsty for a national championship....they don't have the work ethic like the past teams.....these coaches try to discipline a team that has never been disciplined...Ericson, jimmy and butch never tried to do that....

thug football is a lost art at UM......at this point it will never come back unless we fire both golden and dnofrio.....that aura is gone...these canes suck with those 2..plain and simple.....

the more I see that documentary the more it infuriates me that this is what UM football has come to......what kind of an idiot gets rid of a guy like Eddie Johnson....thats like getting rid of Melvin bratton back in the day or Jerome brown.....this coach is sick in the head

if UM loses to both Florida and fsu.....this brand will be the laughing stock of the state.....

U know Stoops whether anybody likes it or not is right. The SEC really is basically a two team league with LSU and Alabama, then you have the next wave with South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. You would think as much as they are hyped they would be top to bottom a dominant league, but really who do they ever play outside their own conference in that opponents own house who is any good. Yeah they play a team or two that is called a neutral site but that neutral site is either in the Georgia Dome or in a place that is right up the road from that schools territory. I mean really name the last time one of those supposed great SEC teams played somebody in a real road game that was any good. Last time I checked Louisville and Clemson went right into the heart of SEC country and beat LSU and Florida. And Florida was just dominated. Now I am not questioning the fact that right now Bama is the top dog because they are but it is easy to look like the top dog, when U never go against any real competition from other power conferences. And don't give me that crap about how the SEC has so many ranked teams because playing conference games is like fighting with your brother. Each knows what the other is going to do prior to doing so, so that is really no challenge. I say the way things really should be done is for everyone from every conference play each other and quit all this crap of playing the Georgia States, Furmans, Georgia Southerns, Florida A&M's, Savannah States, and other no chances of the world and YES when I say this I mean everybody from every conference, including the U. We want to see FSU versus Auburn, or LSU vs Oklahoma, the U versus Florida, and USC vs the U, and Michigan vs Texas. Those are the games we want to see not Georgia State and Alabama, or the U vs. Savannah State, and the list goes on and on. Do that and get a real playoff in which each conference champ plays in and have two at large teams and then we will have a fair way of determining who the champion is. Until then with the BCS, and this BS playoff that SLive has implemented, and lets be real I don't know who's dick he is sucking, but he has this set up to appease his agenda. That much U can bet on.

'ships: right on. I agree with 90% of your post/

Auburn and LSU did a few years ago muster enough ba--ls to go OOC OO state to play home and away series- LSU vs Oregon and Auburn vs USC.

But that was a few yrs ago. When was the last time Floriduh went to Ohio State, to Oklahoma, to Texas, to USC?

I agree with that whole theory thatthe SEC is so good because theyplay each other- well they allknow each others tendencies and each others crowds- student athletes dont get scared of going to 107,000 Tennesee stadium anymore bc they been there done that- they know each other. Same with Bama, Death Valley, etc. By the time thy are 3rd years theyve already travelled to those venues. Aint no fear in that- its familiar!

But go to Columbus. Or to LA coliseum- or to Oregon. as a visitingtem. No. as a visiting media overhyped SEC team. hah ha hahahah. I'd love to see what happens.

North Carolina, for example played a home and away series with LSU a couple of years ago. UNC had jsut lost something like 10 players, 7 starters to NCAA sanctions under Butch Davis. They went to Tiger stadium, and came within 20 yards and one play of upsetting then top 5 LSU at their home- at night.

With the exception of Bama, the ACC and the SEC is closer than the biased media leads you to believe... I aint buying it. Most people who live outside of that trailer park (the SEC) know better.

A home a nd away series between USC and UM- or Oregon vs UM Now THAT will bring some serious TV ratings! That can be sold onPPV.

Hey fellas, UMike here. I like to self-troll this sight under multiple names. I'm dumber than a garden rake, under employed, and dangerously overweight. Ryan Lochte- Making a gator fool of himself on TV. What a dumsh*t

Tim Tebow- Sorry Timmy melonhead, but the NFL doesnt want you. Because you suck dot com.

Joke-Keem Noah- Blabber mouth. He with the nappy pony tail. Just got owned by an old Miami socialite on national TV.

Losers. What is it about "title town" that the put out so many doosh-es?

GQ got it right when they chose Uf as the doosh-iest college in america.

"With the exception of Bama, the ACC and the SEC is closer than the biased media leads you to believe." Really?

Here's a look at how the top 5 ACC teams did against the SEC.

FSU, ACC champ, lost to UF 37-26 at FSU.

Clemson, 2nd ACC Atlantic, beat Auburn, which went 0-8 in the ACC, by 7 points, 26-19 and beat LSU by 1 point, 25-24. Lost to South Carolina 17-27.

NC State - lost to Tenn (SEC botttom dweller) 35-21, and to Vandy, another bottom dweller, according to the canes, 24-38.

UNC did not play any SEC Teams.

GT, ACC coastal champ, lost to UGA, 42-10

ACC record against teams not named Alabama 2-5. Your best vs not our best.

Total points ACC vs SEC: 149-222.

Equal? By what measure?

Only a Bulls fan would love Noah, the embodiment of hustle, heart and hard work, everyone else would hate him.
LBJ mentioned Noah when asked about the Birdman's high motor as another example.
Some NBA analyst on the Joe Rose show said Noah is a more talented version of the Birdman.
Love Noah if he's on your team, hate him if he's not.
For some moron to call him a doosh and a loser is a reflection of the typical blind imbeciles that post here defending the sorry canes with desperation.
None of you idiots have any credibility when you spout manure like that.
So you get mad when some gator fan comes here and calls you out. Then come up with some real come backs, something factual and true. The fact that you can't come up with any truth or facts is telling.

Bottom line Coach no D is that Gayturd fans should not come on here , go to your own site ,or are they to stupid to set one up . You dont come here to talk football just talk trash , Where were all you guys when we ruled the football world ? I never when to a Uf site when we were on top . Just leave and take Gallo and Calvin with you . Go Canes

I'm no gaytor fan myself but you can't ignore what joakim noah brings to the game, hardwork and hustle is always respected no matter what and that's what he brings, along with actually basketball skills. If joakim was with the heat some of these same bozo's wouldn't say what they're saying. We got u.d. here, he was born and raised in Miami, he was forced to go to the gaytors, but down here nobody really holds him responsible for that or look at him like he's a gaytor though.

You can win championships & alot of games with guys like u.d. joakim and birdman. We didn't go on that winning streak by accident once the birdman got here, that man understands the game and can actually give you some offense from time to time if you get caught slipping.

Isn't there any new Canes news ? Tennis teams ? Baseball ?

Have the Gators ever been undefeated? Can't remember...

Have the Canes ever been embarrassed in a Nation Championship? I think Tommie Frazier just scored again on dem Gators.

So gayturdman has to bring in the whole conference to compete with these Canes. We could be down 2 decades and those Gators would still not have an undefeated season or pass us in 'ships.

If you have half a brain, CFB is nothing more than about money and ratings now. Has nothing to do with on-field performance anymore.

The SEC can't compete with the ACC because of the ACC's higher academic standards. See news clippings when Georgia Tech left the SEC. Lowering standards to win 'ships for moron jock sniffers is great! Go SEC!!! smh

dem alachua countie tobacco chewing necks are up in arms about their "SEC"

newsflash, you toothless trash, NO PROGRAM HAS WON 7 STRAIGHT NATIONAL CH IN FOOTBALL LIKE ONE OF YOU DOOSCHH BAGS SAID ABOVE.

THE SEC IS NOT A COLLEGE FOOTBALL PROGRAM YOU LOSERS. THE SEC INCLUDES 2 TEAMS THAT 1 YEAR AGO WERE BIG 12 FIXTURES. THE ONLY REASON THEY FLIPPED IS THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR.

AND, as one of you jealous little girls pointed out, south carolina and arkansas were also once additions to the SEC- and yes UM beat them. and yes just like they beat Texas A&M TWICE, AS WELL AS MIZZOU. DO YOU AGREE WE SHOULD COUNT THOSE WINS AS WINS AGAINST THE SEC?

GIVE IT UP LOSER REDNECKS.

YOU ARE OVERRATED AND RIDING ALABAMAS COATTAILS.

I KNOW THAT

YOU KNOW THAT

THE WHOLE EFFIN WORLD KNOWS THAT

BOB STOOPS KNOWS THAT

SINCE YOU LOSERS CANT WIN SQUAT, AND HAVE A POINTY EARED DELIVERANCE BANJO PLAYER AS QB, YOU HAVE TO RIDE ALABAMAS SUCCESS

WE MAY BE LIVING IN THE PAST ACCORDING TO YOU..

WHATS YOUR PAST?

SEC formula for winning. Keep Miami down thru propaganda. Make ESPN mention it on TV. Scare recruits away from the canes. Raid south fla. Just check the SEC rosters. When the canes are up the Sec is down. When the canes are down the Sec is up.
