New depth chart released for fall camp. Are you ready for some football?

The Hurricanes released their first depth chart entering fall camp, which begins Saturday morning in Coral Gables.

Among the changes, most of them minor:

On offense --

* There's an "OR" between Ereck Flowers and Malcolm Bunche at left tackle.

* Right tackle has three co-starters: Seantrel Henderson or Ereck Flowers or Sunny Odogwu. Odogwu is a 6-8, 316-pound freshman no less. According to one of my sources, he is coming off minor foot surgery.

* At tight end it now says Asante Cleveland or Clive Walford, as opposed to just Cleveland as the starter.

* One of the two wide receiver positions has Phillip Dorsett ahead of Herb Waters. However, a slot position has been added to the depth chart, which has Waters as the starter there. The other wideout first-team Cane is Allen Hurns.

On Defense, listed as "4-3" --

* David Perry was added as the third-team defensive end behind starter Anthony Chickillo and second-teamer Jelani Hamilton.

* Thurston Armbrister is now listed as a co-backup to freshman Alex Figueroa at outside linebacker with fellow backup Tyriq McCord.

On Special teams --

*It's now listed as Pat O'Donnell or Matt Goudis, as opposed to Matt Goudis first team and O'Donnell backup (the way it was after spring camp ended).

* There's an "OR'' between Goudis and O'Donnell for kickoffs.

* The first-team holder is now backup quarterback Ryan Williams or O'Donnell. Note that former quarterback David Thompson, who was formerly  listed as a co-starter at holder, has left the team to pursue Miami baseball full-time.

* At kick returner, it's Phillip Dorsett or Duke Johnson "and'' Malcolm Lewis

HERE WE GO WITH THIS DEPTH CHART STUFF AGAIN!! IT'S FINE NOW BUT AFTER SECURING YOUR 2-DEEP PLAYERS WHY NOT EVALUATE THEM ON GAME PERFORMANCES AND NOT GOOD WEEK PRACTICES. THERE IS A SUCH THING AS SOME GUYS PRACTICE BETTER THAN THEY PLAY AND VISE/VERSA BUT THE TOP 22 ON DEFENSE AND TOP 22 ON OFFENSE WILL PLAY A LOT AND SHOULD BE GRADED ON THAT PERFORMANCE ALSO. ON DEFENSE A GOOD PRACTICE PLAYER WHO STARTS BUT COME GAME TIME DOES NOT DELIVER FOR 2-3 GAMES SHOULD BE REPLACED EVEN IF IT'S JUST TO GET HIS ATTENTION TO PERFORM BETTER! WHAT IS THE SENSE IN GETTING SACKS IN PRACTICE BUT NOT IN 2-3 GAMES ? NONE !! IF YOU PRACTICE WELL AND NOT PERFORM WELL YOU ARE NOT GIVING YOUR BEST EFFORT, YOU ARE ONLY MAKING SURE YOU PLAY ON SATURDAYS. ON OFFENSE A PLAYER WHO BLOCKS, RUNS HARD OR GETS OPEN AND CATCHES THE BALL IN PRACTICE BUT NOT IN 2-3 GAMES SHOULD BE REPLACED. THIS SIMPLE CONCEPT WILL HELP THIS TEAM WIN 3-4 EXTRA GAMES THIS YEAR!! RIGHT NOW THE PLAYERS KNOW THAT IF THEY PRACTICE WELL THEY WILL MOVE UP AND PLAY, AND THEY SHOULD BUT THEY ALSO SHOULD PRODUCE ON THE FIELD! EVERY ONE CAN HAVE A BAD GAME BUT 2-3 IN A ROW!! NO WAY!! BAD COACHING!! THIS EXPLAINS A DEFENSE BEING 117TH BECAUSE PRODUCTION DID NOT IMPROVE! WHY ? BAD COACHING!! WHAT MAKES YOU FILL THAT BY GETTING BIGGER,STRONGER YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY IMPROVE ? BECAUSE IF THIS MAKES YOU PERFORM IN BOTH PRACTICE AND IN GAMES THEN YES IT WORKED!! IF IT CANNOT TRANSFORM ON THE FIELD ON SATURDAYS OR IN MY CASE ON FRIDAY NIGHTS IT WILL NOT TURN INTO WINS!! PROVE ME WRONG UM COACHES!! I KNOW HOW HARD YOU WORK BUT AT SOME POINT YOU HAVE TO KNOW YOUR PLAYERS STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES AND HOW TO GET THE MAXIMUM EFFORT OUT OF YOUR PLAYERS AND TO HAVE FUN DOING IT! THIS IS WHAT COACH MEYER DOES WHEREVER HE COACHES!! I AM NOT A FAN OF HIS BUT HE KNOWS WHAT THE HELL HE IS DOING THAT'S WHY HE WINS. COACH GOLDEN IS AN EXCELLENT COACH, OUTSTANDING RECRUITER AND I FEEL THAT THIS COULD BE HIS YEAR BUT IF HIS BUDDY DOES NOT GET IT RIGHT I FEEL LIKE COACH GOLDEN LEAVES AFTER A 10-3 SEASON AND NO SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT ON DEFENSE SO HE DOES NOT HAVE TO FIRE HIS BUDDY!! LET'S PRAY COACH DUNNO GET'S IT, CANES WIN 12 GAMES, MYSELF AND ALL THOSE WHO HAVE CRITICIZE COACH DUNNO CAN STFU !! I WILL BE THE FIRST TO GIVE HIM HIS DO BECAUSE THE CANES ARE LOOKING AT A POTENTIAL UNDEFEATED SEASON IF THIS HAPPENS!! GO CANES!!

All CAPS is a pain to read....

As far as practice goes. Usually the players who have a better week of practice perform better on game days. Are there Practice Heroes out there? Of course there are (cAlvin, D, maybe even Gallo). Some guys can flat out ball when there's no pressure to perform but fold up like a $2.00 lawn chair when they're under the spotlight. That's why there are in game substitutions. Some guys are immensely talented and/or feel entitled and don't like to practice but flip the switch on game days.. unfortunately, they're only cheating themselves and the team when they do this. They cheat themselves by never reaching their ceiling and they cheat the team by not bringing up the level of play in practice to make their team mates better. Competition is always a good thing.

new dizzle same day

didn't I say that too ?

Way too much hype for a Coach with two 6 loss seasons. Have we forgotten we are the U? Golden enjoys hiding behind the looming NCAA sanctions, the freshman roster, rookies on defense, excuses, excuses. Just wait! He'll find more reasons to explain away what went wrong with our program.

correction dumb a55- he was 7-5 last year.

On paper that really looks good. Players have really bulked up, that should really help out. Too small up front last year to stand a chance. Just with the added size, we should be 2 or 3 games better this year. UNC and FSU would've been wins last year if we could've held up against their size advantage. If the defensive knowledge has increased like the size has, this could be a very special year. It is long over do. Either way, Miami Hurricane fan for life, regardless!!! Independent minds, one of the few and far between. What it boils down to, most of the so called fans are 7 & 6 to, this is why they praise goldie, that are so glad that Shannon is gone they're stupid pathetic to realize the difference between Shannon and coach goldie is, goldie gives you a lot of fluff talk on why the team is 7 & 5, Shannon just wanted to get back to work and go to practice and get the team better without all that lip-service.

Coach goldie like at temple, but unlike Shannon at UM has been granted all the access/options necessary to win and thus far he took a team who we all know went 9 & 3 as sophomores and turned them into a 7 & 6 team by the time they were seniors.

t.k. swann brought up a lot of excellent points, but those points are not what coach goldie looks at, that's why his philosophy of "be the same guy everyday" is none-sense, guys that make big plays in big games are not going to always make those same plays in practice all the time, it's the opposing competition that brings it out of you, a lot of things are not going to be brought out of you when you facing your same teammates all the time. Normally the guys who have to practice the hardest are the borderline players who have to go hard every single day, but those of us who know wee got an extra gear/level, yu only turn that on when needed.

Your teammates will elevate their games in game when you elevate yours, this is why as most cane see, coach goldie is getting away from that "if you don't camp philosophy you won't get offered" that's not going to work down here. Also, I don't have faith in coach goldie's eyes when it comes to him evaluating who r what a good defensive players is, him nor his boy clown 117th. I know coach barrow knows, I know coach hurlie brown knows, art kehoe knows, they've been around elite for over 30 years and have seen some of the best that ever did it, but who has coach goldie and his minions been around that are elite.

When they got here trying to prop up Muhammad wilkerson that's an insult to UM.

"Shannon just wanted to get back to work and go to practice and get the team better without all that lip-service."

And he failed, miserably, on both counts.

Nothing wrong with taking an objective point of view regarding anything you like, it's healthy, but if you(and some others) dislike Coach Golden and his staff enough to basically write a "War And Peace" essay every day, Calvin, why don't you start a petition to have him removed?

Or would that take more effort than typing on some keys?

I prefer to take a wait and see approach. If Coach Golden and his staff are even a FRACTION of the terrible you(and some other nameless, transparent posters) claim he is, then his removal is a foregone conclusion, right? But hey, being able to babble on about whether or not your right or wrong about something on The Internet trumps you OBVIOUS love for The University.

TK,

With a little effort paragraphs could be your new best friends.

Only a dope like Miss Calvina/alvin would take the time to post under other names and then write a big slurp job congratulating the "independent" thinker. No one buys it, dummy.

(S)He'll be back under a new name after 9/7.

GOING NOWHERE UNTIL THEY GET A DEFENSIVE CO-ORDINATOR

mase, no need in writing a petition, he'll get his own self fired or leave as t.k. swann said before firing his boy if he keeps clown 117th around. It's not fair to hold kids hostage under an incompetent coordinator over a friendship, if he's your friend he'll be your friend after you fire him, if the shoe was on the other foot, would you let one of your fiends build you a house that you knew was one of the owrst house builders in the country but since he's your friend you'd still let him build you a house that your wife and kids will be in.

Than coach goldie's hypocritical ways have been obvious, as far as wait and see, wait and see what, all he needs to do is be a straight up person, cut it out with the lies(pulling schalorships, saying a coordinator is one of the best out there when he's not, claiming there was no defensive depth when he got here/self inflicted, saying 3 recruiting classes have been affected before he signed the 2013 class when it's actually only been 2, saying "we're the coastal division champs when you know you lost to UNC, that's like walking to a park and when you get there and you see a bike up against the tree, but since you got their and than somebody showed up after you, than you try and claim the bike is yours when you know it wasn't) is all we're saying.

He's either going to be for this football team or he'll get run out of town. We need him to represent Miami, stop crying to the media about a soft schedule, stop running from competition and start coaching like you're confident you're suppose to win games. gumbo fisher is starting a redshirt freshman this year and is going to go out there with confidence that they'll keep winning and won't miss a beat, coach goldie always pointing out the youth.

ESPN has been almost non-stop featuring the Gator misfits Riley Cooper and Aaron Hernandez. Of course Cooper and Hernandez are only a small sampling of Gator misfits and criminals.

So if they end the year "middle-of-the-pack" statistically(when they were 116th last year) and win the ACC Coastal, would you give D'Onofrio the credit?

A simple yes or no question, right?

Knowing all the information that we know now the U had a lot of off the field issues going on that no one imagined. Both Coach Shannon and Coach Golden need to be commended on trying to right a ship that was definitely heading to a Titanic ending. We forget that with all the allegations this could have been a very nasty investigation. But with Penn State and their one very nasty situation and the NCAA being over zealous we dodged a bullet. Not many coaches would have hung around and taken all of this mess. And it is a MESS. We want winning but no one wants to be patient and works for that winning. If U want to blame anyone for this mess blame the administration from the 1980's to late 1990's who took advantage of the money, glitz, and glam and didn't manage it for an on-campus stadium and the neglect of athletic facilities. That is who WE should blame!!!

looks pretty standard.....would not put figueroa over mcord....no need to put a freshman in with no experience...bunche vs flowers is ok......

but dnofrio will f...ck it up......as you can see.....ALL SHANNON RECRUITS STARTING......

But as far as Coach Golden hiding or dodging anything...and I was very concerned about him being chosen as the new head coach...I think otherwise. He has dealt with more issues than he should have been allowed to. This was truly a university issue but he knew that if he didn't get involved this football team...as far as recruiting and reputation...would be a dead issue. So in his 3rd year...expectations are high. But we are not a state university...what we have accomplished we did because of the development of superior RAW talent. No state or public money benefits the university. But again the hard work of young men from the 80's and the early 2000's lined the pockets of the university. So where is that money? That is the question and concern we should have. The football program will be back. Maybe not to the standards we are accustomed to because of the surge from the other conferences. But what about the resources to aid the football program before now. This is what failed the athletic program.

tony: there was never a mess here....thats all manufactured.....the transition of players from 2010 was excellent, as you can see by the 2013 roster.....

the recruits that UM lost all said the ncaa issue has NOTHING to do with their decision:

alex collins
denver kirkland
terrell brooks
matthew thomas
jaynard bostwick
keith bryant

lets remember even to this day...UM has not been charged with ANYTHING.....there was never a "titanic" ending.....we had teddy bridgewater. shalala pulled the pin on shannon when she shouldn't have.....all the data points to a better UM team today if shannon was still here......

correction dumb a55- he was 7-5 last year.

.

Jesus H Christ. How long after u woke up did it take u to logon to ur only source of social contact ? 30 seconds ? 1 min ?

And then to spout off, "N0, we weren't 6-6 last year like were were in 2011... WE WERE 7-5 !!!

Pathetic no life Goldie sluuurping loooser.

So, flip side of the coin, Calvin, if they win, and win big(I mean land in the top 10 big) will you give Golden the credit? Or will it be everything BUT him?

Dude, don't let having an axe to grind make you look desperate. It's simple, if you can't say one good thing about what Golden has done, then you lose all credibility when critiquing, just the way it is.

"UM has not been charged with ANYTHING."

Really? Ever heard of a notice of allegations? you mean the NCAA has investigated for 3 1/2 years, are prepared to issue a statement of sanctions based on no charges?

You are such a stupid Gatr Trash maggot, Gallo. I hope you die crossing the street today.

Galloinda is Exhibit A of the long list syndrome. It is a mental illness that is irrelevant, dwells in the past and is associated with being inbred.

If you get out a roster and count, Galloinda, you'll see that many if not most Shannon recruits still with us are projected to see little pt.

You said ALL shannon recruits are starting. Not really news, you are just lying and wrong again.

You really miss not hc non dc Randy, don't you?

Mase,

No they just change names and come back and say he didn't win by enough.

golden gets credit when he wins with his recruits...not randy shannons....if UM is successful this year it will because of ALL randy shannons guys.....

also more BS about UM money.....

UM endowment - 678 million
FSU - 525 million
Clemson - 525 million

all those teams have better records than UM

more manufactured BS....

typo Clemson is 482 million

.....all the data points to a better UM team today if shannon was still here......

The same "type" of date shows that a lot of talent is coming in to the football program in the next 2-3 years POTENTIALLY.....just like your "data" shows that Randy(whom I happen to like, by the way) was set to have some very good teams POTENTIALLY. See how that works?

Honestly, if Golden gets the axe in the next 2 years(for whatever reason) and his recruits end up playing in the National Championship, will you be so vehemently defending him?

I personally don't like what happened to Randy, but it just didn't work out here for him, and that's unfortunate, it's the nature of coaching.

*The same type of data, it should read.

Mase,

You are wasting perfectly good logic on that dolt. His sole objective is to be an irritant.

Most obvious Gallo lie ever (many to choose from admittedly):

but dnofrio will f...ck it up......as you can see.....ALL SHANNON RECRUITS STARTING......

Posted by: Jim Gallo | August 01, 2013 at 10:50 AM

Fact: Not even close. Spend a couple minutes with a roster.

Gallo Said: "Lets remember even to this day...UM has not been charged with ANYTHING."

Does this dirtbag ever not lie? He's pathological and no matter how many times his lies are refuted he reposts them as fact.

He's a cowardly Gator and it appears he and his alter ego, Calvin's game is hoping recruits and their parents read this blog and they will be hesitant to sign with the Canes due to his never ending lies.

You see this on stock message boards all the time as those miscreants are paid for their bashing, which based on the 24/7 posting of his bullsheet makes me wonder if that's what we are dealing with here or he is simply incurably insane or most likely...both!

yes notice of allegations......now UM has appeal to committee before the actual charges are in forced with sanctions.....

maybe UM was won the challenge? maybe there will be NO sanctions.....that would be hysterical.....idiot golden forfeits bowl and title all for nothing totally screwing the class of who worked hard and EARNED the recognition.....

so if a CEO blundered like that...he would be history....should golden be fired if that is the end result? after all, as per his players..it was HIS decision.

Gallo,

Repeating the "it was Golden's decision" 1 million times won't make it true. Keep lying, galloinda.

Gallo, I have a few things I would like you to pick up on I-95 during rush hour. Please start walking I-95. I'll tell you when to stop.

thats the data.....until golden/dnofrio improve on it all this press is BS.....saying is one thing...doing is another.....since golden took over the team is doing worse....end of story

The First 2013 USA Today Coaches Poll comes out at 12 Noon...

No need for u to bother... Nothing in it for u to see Cane Clucks...

I'm just as delusional as u ...

Gallo/Calvina-

Stop licking your own crotch for all of us to sickeningly witness. Had Donna Shalala not taken the prudent steps to not play in the two bowl games and the ACC Championship game then Miami would have played right into the hands of the NCAA and been facing on a go forward basis at least 2 years of not being allowed to participate in post season bowl games.

Yep, Al golden led an undeniably under manned Canes team to the ACC Championship game and another bowl game...wow! wow! wow! And he's followed up with what will be the #1 recruiting class...again, wow! wow! wow!

Now run along you cowardly, toothless, hillbilly Gator your kind are calling you back home...Reilly, Hernandez, et al.

Thanks Mountain, I recognize that, I've lurked for quite some time, I don't get upset.

Gallo luvs the KAK.

Gallo's sister is his mother which explains his compulsive irrelevant list making.

Canes obviously on an upslope. All real cane fans rooted for RS who was clearly in way over his head. If he weren't, wouldn't one of the other 120 teams hire him? Why not even as a DC?

Great posts here today fellas!
To all the Goldie butt slappers out there. Look! Bringing in a Coach to help UM remain 6-6 or 7-5 with awful defensive play does not earn any respect around the country.
For the sake of argument--lets say UM goes 8-4 or 9-3 this year. SO WHAT! The bottom line is I want Butch Davis/Dennis Erickson type production. I want a return of our feared reputation on the road. I want stifling, suffocating defense that puts the fear of God in opposing QB's and WR's. Golden is not providing any of these requirements and until he does--no serious UM fan should be here singing love songs to Goldie.

Someone stole my screen name and posted nonsense and lies...below you will find my corrected version...

thats the data.....the great Big Al Golden/Mark Donofrio have improved on every metric and all this press is 100% spot on.....saying is one thing...doing is another.....and that's exactly what Big Al Golden has done since taking over the team that was in horrid shape...now the team is doing much, much, much better and won the ACC Coastal Division ....end of story!

Rabble,

Look to the other side of you split personality and tell lady calvina and galloinda to STFU.

Really looked up to Randy when I was a kid. Would watch him and a lot of the other players at Norland Sr. when I was a kid playing and practicing at with North Dade. Showtime, Onion Ring...long time ago.

Things just didn't work out, it happens, but to hate on Golden for it ain't right, no matter how I might feel.
