« Sellout alert! UM Hurricanes vs. Florida Gators single-game football tickets are sold out. | Main | Coach Al Golden on Hurricanes D: "The biggest thing was to not change...'' »

UM Hurricanes just got their 24th oral commitment for the Class of 2014!

Miami just nabbed a preseason victory over the Florida Gators.

The Hurricanes just picked up their 24th oral commitment for the 2014 season: 6-2, 221-pound defense end Trent Harris, a three-star athlete according to rivals.com and 247sports.com, and a four-star athlete according to ESPN.com. (The list of 24 signees doesn't count holdover signee Ryheem Lockley, who is is in prep school and is expected to join the 2014 class).

Harris, who had 50 tackles and 11 sacks as a defensive end last season as a junior at Winter Park, chose the Canes over the Gators and Ohio State.

Earlier in the process, he had narrowed his finalists to UF, Georgia, OSU, Alabama, FSU and Vanderbilt.

He grew up a Gators fan.

"That was my dream as a kid,'' Harris told the Orlando Sentinel, where he announced his decision at about noon Monday. "But I grew up, and I've got to realize what's going to help me the most in my future, and that's the University of Miami.

"Yes sir, the U!'' he concluded in a video.

Before the announcement, he told 247sports.com that he knew what team he was choosing and that he had made up his mind recently.

Oral commitments are non-binding. They do not become official until National Signing Day.

Calvin: Booker T. is one of the best, forget state, best high school programs in the country. If I'm "Goldy I'm at Booker T. at least trying to erect communication bridges. Canes teams of the past were stockpiled with core FL talent. Hint: The Muck. And the rest of the small FL towns.

We got to go after the FL players. Fact is, "Goldy and DC aren't "trench" coaches. They are "office" coaches.

Kehoe is a "trench" coach. RS was a "trench" coach.

That mountain cane LOUT suffers from NARROW-MINDED myopia thinking. Nothing more and nothing less.

Otherwise, why would he absolutely state that THE DON, was the absolute BEST all-time N.F.L. head coach.

When the quartet of Vincent, Brown, Lambeau and Papa Bear have the cold, hard NUMBERS, which Shula doesn't. Eh. What say.

ROFL, man, don't waste your time talking to mountain oyster fake Cane, he doesn't know football and slurps everything mediocre. Anybody defending clown 117th and a coach that coached for 33 years and only has 2 superbowl victories is an ignoramus supreme. How many did Bill Walsh have, that's a headcoach that didn't waste his fans time over about a 10 year period and put together real football teams that normally only lost to the eventual superbowl champions.

ROFL, these numbnutz will be the same ones waiting for goldie 10years down the road to be on the verge of almost winning his first national championship and they'll still be trying to tell us how goldie has the program going in the right direction and how he's doing it with class. At the current rate though that coach goldie is going, how long will the journey to a national title take, if not this year, I guess next year ryan williams will be leading the way.

Or maybe it'll be when olsen is a beat out senior which will be year 7/8 of what these same clowns will be saying, "of the goldie rebuild".

They luv to wallow in mediocrity, shula, mediocre, goldie as it stands 13 & 11, mediocre, in his own words of quoting bill parcells "you are what your record says you are" and if he really believed that, than he would be trying to tell us how good boston college and UVA are after playing them, or NC St.

Gayturds recruits are dropping like the liquid that drops from their mama's twat after sex..LOL..

2012 Pre-Season poll fact:
10 teams that started the season ranked in the Coaches poll were not ranked in the final poll.

6 more teams were ranked 10 or more spots higher/lower in the final poll.

The numbers are pretty close to that every year.

So, for those of you putting much credence in the preseason polls, please note that the "pollsters" will, once again, be way off on two-thirds of the teams listed.

Truth, we do have to give credit for goldie plling the trigger and hiring james coley, but what they need to know is, james coley let it be known thru the grapevine that he wanted to be an oc somewhere and when he chance for him to come home to the school he really luvs, it was an easy decision for him. But these clowns act like before james coley got here, coach goldie was doing a good job recruiting Miami, he was doing a decent job but with james coley here, that put us over the top as far as recruiting Miami.

If they were smart they'd realize joseph yearby followed not to long after james coley got here, chad Thomas wouldn't be here, nigel patten but a lot of idiots like to say we don't need BOOKER T. when they know if it wasn't for coach coley being here with the stunt coach goldie pulled last year, he couldn't walk in over their, but james coley never burnt those bridges and would raided BOOKER T. had he still been at Fsu.

Coach goldie has real good intentions which is why things are going in his favor but before long, this is year 3, so we need to start seeing some real ball.

Calvin thank you.

Dumba$$ Lady Calvin can't understand much of anything.

Shula can be above average in winning superbowls per seasons coached and still be well under the leaders. i just tried that on a 6 yr old who understood good, but not the best. Why can't our girl Lady calvin get it?

Dumbism for the day (usual winner btw)

Lady Calvina/alvin couldn't predict if tomorrow's sun will come out of the east or west is now projecting that Olsen will be beat out of qb his senior year.

2. UFELONS r getting spanked on Sept 7

3. Wait till those 2 star recruits get graded their senior years, Canes rankings wlll shoot up. 5=6 of those recruits were under the radar guys form summer camps that weren't graded yet

Apparently you're delusional, the only thing I see is a defense ranked 117th and has the same clueless person in charge of it and a headcoach trying to convince anybody who'll listen. But him having his heart in the right place and his actions of pulling schalorships from the hometeam and crying to the media about a soft schedule and only signing 4 recruits from this area last year, those facts can't be ignored. This guy is learning on the job and if he's smart, he'll continue to lean on guys like kehoe, barrow, coach coley and hurlie brown, otherwise, he'll continue to make bart simpson moves.

Is he sharp off the field & organized yes, but building a national championship team is not based on the most organized headcoach because here's the thing about well organized down to the let plans, what happens when those plans don't go the way you think they should, can you adjust on the fly mentally, and right now, we see that coach goldie coaches like a horse with blinders, this is why the stronger teams have been drubbing us, they make adjustments, we don't and get kilt.

So what the light is shining on is, is coach goldie good enuff to prove he's worth the all out investment this school has given him or was it better to keep Shannon, right now, keeping Shannon at the price they low-balled him at looks like the better option. In fact a randy Shannon coached UM team would beat the hell out of a current goldie coached team. With all those holes in the defense an no pressure, jacory would've had a field day and he did the last year he was here.

Now a message to coach james coley, be real careful of calling to many plays where smo17 has to come out from under center, he doesn't pick-up the linebackers to well and this is when he consistently throws interceptions for touchdowns. For some reason people keep talking about smo17 like he's an elite qb, he has an elite arm, but mentally, will he be elite.

33 years as a headcoach and only 2 superbowl victories is a crying shame no matter how you look at it. That mofo coached here like he was in the union. Than to only get to 1 more superbowl, seriously what was he doing. Than when they'd ask shula, would you draft irvin or deion if they become available, this arse-jack would say every time, "well, we're going to draft to the needs of our team" lol, translation, "them type brotha's not coming here, nope not today, not never".

And so when you hold that type of angst and stupidity in your head, you end up with 2 superbowls in 33 years and are frowned upon, people try and act like it don't exist but that's 1 superbowl for every 16.5 years.

nj cane: where do you get your stats from? al golden?

National Rankings

he just a good b...l sh...t artist and typical nj guy...

Q: What do you think the ‘Canes football team will do this year?

Sapp: “You know what, Boss? Since I’ve been at the NFL Network, I really haven’t had a chance to sit down and look at the roster or see what’s going on. But I’ve been down for Al Golden’s football camp, so I know that he’s teaching the basics of blocking and tackling. Once we get back to that, then we can build something special, get the kids to do some special stuff. But if we don’t get back to the basics, then there’s not going to be anything.”

Q: Do you think the UM program will ever get back to its level in the 1980s?

Sapp: “It’s tough. I mean, you’re looking at, the SEC has won, what, six or seven straight [national titles], something like that? It’s just crazy. …I just don’t know what happened. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know why it [UM] don’t attract people anymore. But hey, it’s a different group now. So, we’ll see.

there it is.....no ringing endorsement at ALL.....there is NO WAY golden/dnofrio can compete with the likes of top ncaa coaches.....they are just too weak......

florida/fsu will tell the story and hopefully will push these two out.....

Making adjustments on the fly is where I concerned with Goldy. He looks good right now but I will wait till we we get up against the trouble to see what he does. This team could go undefeated if they are coached right. He has the recruits coming so there is nothing but good things to say about that. The question is how will he use them?

Calvina, I'm trying to work with you here. This is below GED arithmetic. Thought you had a shot.

shula won superbowls 2 of his 33 seasons
2/33= 6%

the average in 32 seasons would be 1 since there are 32 teams in the league

1/32= 3%

Since 6is still bigger than 3, Shoes was above average.

Over a couple weeks you might get it.

Galloinda another genius. Shannonleaves and can't get a HC job. He can't get a DC job. 120 some top football schools don't see what basement boy sees.

If Golden left he'd have a HC job in a minute.

How is golden recruiting so well without a cool nickname!?

Good pickup Coach Golden but it's only July 30th and nothing is official til National Signing Day of course but to secure pretty much all of these kids all is needed now is 1) 10/11 win season 2)Acc Coastal Division Crown 3) A win over one of the two Fla/Fla.ST. Not only will Coach Golden get to keep his Commitments he will land some others nation wide who right now may/may not have Canes as one of there choices. To reach all of those goals the major thing needs to happen is Coach Dunno's unit must improve from 117th to top 20 as well as show and aggressive style to make good 4-5 star recruits want to come to the U and play defense. Do not be surprised if statistically the Defense shows improvement but that can be "smoke screen" because the schedule has weak teams. The things to look for will be 1) Curtis Porter staying healthy and being a force with Pierre on D-Line 2) Pass Rush has to generate sacks and constant pressure 3) The secondary producing interceptions and turnovers. As I mention in a previous blog watch those two areas in the first two games. Good Job so far Coach Golden but can you make em stick ? Go Canes!!!

So, now that Calvina/Shallow Gallo have recognized that Al Golden is a flat-out super star and will soon be winning National Championships he has decided to attack...wait for it...Don Shula!?!?

Golden's latest slap down of the cowardly Gators by nailing down Trent, a highly sought after player, has Calvina/Shallow Gallo on full tilt, which is hilarious.

Yeah, RS had Bridgewater and no one else. Maybe TB could have played all 11 positions on offense.

Can't believe you are still talking about Shannon 3 years later. I bet RS has moved on. Why can't you

Hmm, so Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno are bad coaches too, because they only won two titles in 33 and 35 years. And Eddie Robinson won none in 53 years.

Don Shula was a great coach, and the fact that the trolls are trying to claim otherwise just shows their desperation.

Who has been to the most Super Bowls?
Who has won the most NFL games?
Who ran a conservative running offense with Czonka, overcame losing his starting QB to get an undefeated season in Griese, was able to get the atrocious David Woodley to the Super Bowl, and turned a late first round pick Dan Marino into a superstar?

Don Shula. Case Closed, trolls.

Calvin, normally i dont respond to U since i dont read your posts. Dont U get tired of all these Canes making U and your buddy look like an idiot? Appearantly u keep spewing the same crap over and over even though everybody else in the known world knows every team is different every year. Look at the gators, thier O sucked last year and thier less talented backups are starters now. Thier D took a big ,BIG , hit to the draft and thier less talented backups are starters this year. And dont give the crapline about them being loaded or these backups would have started last year. And U lost morrison to suspension so now your D is even shallower. We have a crapload of starters returning and some are just in thier second year. Nowhere to go but up. Gators 3 UM 45 unless we get a saftey on that weak oline, then U can add two more.

Great post 5 Titles (soon your screen name will be 6 Titles).

Ya'll keep saying that UMs D makes qbs look like allamericans, gators d makes divll coaches look like geniuses.

You clowns are pathetic, who cares how many teams are in the nfl, this ain't Kansas city, or Minnesota or some of these other irrelevant franchises that seem like they'll never win a superbowl this is Miami where championship football has been played in the Dolphins on backyard for over 25 years and the organization has been dumb enuff to not even draft from it's own local University, in the meantime all jimmy Johnson did was build the core of his team with Miami/Florida players and those of the likes. So again, shula should be ashamed of himself for abusing the dolphins organization.

If you seriously want to try and compare don shula to bobby Bowden, you sir, are an imbecile. Anybody with common sense no the only reason ole bobby has the only few championships he has is because he lost to us to many times, Fsu had been playing championship football just as long as we had and when you only winning by wide rights & lefts, that's where more of the respect comes from for them period.

Who cares about joe "cover-up" pa, who in Miami with sense would want him coaching here for that long with the talent we have, those type of tenures work well for those states that never played football at a high level like we did. Than to be dumb enuff to bring up EDDIE ROBINSON, you're clue-less when it comes to this conversation. So again, it's a known fact that shula is overrated, you can give him credit tho for perfect attendance tho.

I don't worry about arse-jacks who don't know football, if they did, they would make sense. It doesn't bother me that they don't know, that's there problem, they're actually comical to me cause you can sense their frustration for not being able to know anything, lol. Look, when it comes to the gaytors, everybody in Miami always knew the majority of their teams were soft at the end of the day, and they know bout us Miami boys when we come to town we took over and we taking over.

But now these days, you can't call their style of play soft no more, they're playing a way more aggressive style of defense than are scheme and no matter how much people want to try and bash jeff driskell and that offense, those guys were one game away for playing for it all, who cares about the louisville game, means nothing to them but more to Louisville who had way more to gain that night and did so.

I could careless who graduated or went to the draft for the gaytors, i'm come from the mindset of how we did it, every year no matter who left we had a strong team, how do you know the guys that'll be playing this year for the gaytors won't be more productive than the guys that just left, in college football that's bound to happen a lot more than in the nfl cause players develop like that in college. So to have a mindset to try and bank on the fact that so & so graduated, I want to play a team when they're at their best, "NO EXCUSES".

We've seen how this offense looks against better defenses, like trash, smo17 is not an elite qb contrary to what's being reported, until he becomes consistent against all teams and even the weaker teams, a lot of people got fooled by a lot of his inflated stats from last year, and that's not a knock on the man, it's just a fact that morris has a lot of room for improvement and don't be surprised if is interception go up this year, the one thing jedd did was take away a lot of the plays that required morris to have to throw in the middle of the field, why, because that's because morris has a hard time picking up the linebackers when coming out from under center.

At the end of the day, that's why the games are played, who do I think is a better headcoach between coach goldie and muschamp, when it comes to team philosophy, mental toughness, gameday coaching and aggressiveness, confidence, muschamp is way out in front over coach goldie in those areas, why, because he's done it at a high level before as a player and as a coach, coach goldie doesn't have that type of resume/core to pull from so right now he's finding his way and is on a journey but we do know where he pulls from is from a conservative passive approach which is obviously what our team looks like.

Calvin just claimed Shula failed to grab Miami Hurricane players, and should have done what Jimmy Johnson did.

Jimmy Johnson took over for Shula, grabbed a Miami Hurricane player, and that turned out real well, right?

Yatil Green. Nuff said, troll.

I just realized that Calvin is spelling his nae wrong, it is Clavin, as in Cliff Clavin, the know0it-all mailman on Cheers that never actually knew what he was talking about.

Thanks for again proving you have no clue, Cliff Clavin the gator troll....

Also, saying morrison is not playing for the gaytors, what does that mean, heck eddie johnson & gionni paul are not playing for us either, and it's looks like we're going to be relying on alex figs2, so again, means nothing, come game time, we'll see what type of team we philosophy we have this year since last year coach goldie made it clear that in his words "I made the decision early on that we were going to have to try and out-score everybody" lol, isn't that the object of all games, but what he let be known, his game plan was to come out and attack team like k st. and notre shame which was good, but once you don't get the quick touchdowns all he had to do was go to a power based offense, slow the game down and give the team a better chance, instead, all thoe quick 3 & outs left an already weak defense even weaker by leaving them out on the field all game long.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

C'mon, Calvin. Tie this back into Shannon somehow you one-trick pony.

Kids not dumb.....he knows what the deal is as far as getting to the NFL....not happening at FlorIduh. See ya in 40 days Turds.

"Golden said. “We’ve had kids come and go like every program every year, but not one kid has walked into my office with his family and said, ‘I’m leaving because I don’t know what the future is with the NCAA; it’s too tenuous, I want out.’ And that’s a testament to the young kids and the commitment they’ve made to each other.”

the sanctions had nothing to do with his record at UM.....2011/2012 was not influenced by the investigation.

almost 6000 yards on defense and rank #116.....we will see 2013, but in the end...dnofrio cant compete....he is not smart enough....2 yrs and not 1 3 and out.....review all the games last year...almost everyone was a fiasco.....and ncaa had nothing to do with any of it.....

Does Calvin realize nobody reads his mile long post's!!!

Score Alert!!!!! Louisville Touchdown!!!!

Poor Shallow-Gallo...now even Greg Cote is showing him to be full of sheet...too funny! Canes fans read on for another slap down of Shallow-Gallo/Lady Calvina,

Al Golden operates with remarkable composure for a guy with a guillotine over his head. The unrelenting threat and weight of a seemingly endless NCAA probe would have splintered plenty of other college football teams and beaten plenty of other coaches, had them surrendering, running away.

Golden stares unblinking at that glistening blade. He keeps climbing uphill through the chaos and doubt he inherited, and somehow winning.

This is the one man who has most held the University of Miami together under this three-year cloud — what Golden calls “this whole ordeal we’ve gone though.” His players see his we-shall-survive constancy and buy the belief he is selling.

So, apparently, do guys who want to be his players.

Guys who want to sign on even amid all of the doubts, and all of the ominous predictions and lies cast by rival schools.

We saw that again Monday. That faith in Golden, and in better days.

Trent Harris, a highly recruited defensive end from Winter Park, made official his oral commitment to UM for 2014, and it was significant both literally and, I thought, symbolically.

Literally because the kid is a four-star recruit who ultimately picked UM over Florida — whose colors and mementoes fill his bedroom — and Urban Meyer’s Ohio State, where his position coach would have been recent NFL Patriots star Mike Vrabel.

“I liked Florida since I was little, but I’m not little anymore,” Harris said Monday. “I needed to make a grown man’s choice.”

The 22 schools that offered him a scholarship also included reigning champion Alabama. If Nick Saban wants you, you are really good. You are blue-chip, national-caliber good.

Instead, Harris puts his faith and future in Miami, despite the Nevin Shapiro-related investigation that has caused two seasons of self-imposed penalties and could bring yet more sanctions when the NCAA finally concludes the case within the next two weeks.

Harris’ decision so close to the NCAA decision makes it a symbolic victory for Miami as well, a final verification that Golden has navigated the program through this.

Last season, the Canes played their way into the ACC Championship Game only to remove themselves with a self-imposed ban. All he could tell his 2013 recruits was, “Hopefully, that opportunity won’t be taken away from us this year” — while rival recruiters surely whispered ominous speculation about harsh penalties that might still be in store.

Despite it all, UM’s 2013 recruiting class was ranked a respectable 15th in the country by ESPN.

And the 2014 class that just added Harris looks even better. It is presently ranked seventh in the nation. The 24 oral commitments are tied with Tennessee for the most in the top 30. The 12 four-star recruits are tied for second-most.

Is there a guarantee all of those commitments will stay committed? No.

But I’d bet on Golden’s track record.

On Monday he flew to Bristol, Conn., to spend Tuesday as one of six ACC coaches participating in an ESPN “Car Wash,” jargon for a day of interviews with various network properties. He carried the Harris news in his pocket like a winning poker chip.

Golden has taken the NCAA mess that might have fractured this program, turned it upside down and used it as sort of a rallying point for his team and in recruiting.

“If anything it motivated our guys,” said Golden, whose team opens his third season with UM on Aug. 30 at Dolphins stadium against Florida Atlantic. “During this whole ordeal we’ve gone through we haven’t had one family say, ‘This is too tenuous. We wanna get out of Dodge.’ It speaks to the commitment and the brotherhood that is University of Miami football.”

Golden says “the adversity we’ve endured” has made his team “internally focused and driven.”

Future players such as Harris are electing to be a part of this because UM was smart to take its medicine early with those self-imposed penalties, hard as those pills were to swallow. Though no one can predict what the at-times-dysfunctional NCAA might soon do with possible additional sanctions, Golden is able to tell recruits the worst is over and logically believe it.

Meanwhile, as players like Harris assure the cupboards are full for the future, the present looms more exciting for Canes fans than it has in years.

The team is a preseason favorite to win the ACC Coastal Division, and the opportunity to play in a major bowl game is there (NCAA willing).

Quarterback Stephen Morris and running back Duke Johnson lend star power to what could be a great offense. And the defense should be greatly improved after losing only one player from the unit’s two-deep depth chart.

“There will be more of a poise and calmness factor on defense,” Golden said. “We’re bigger, stronger, and we have a lot more experience coming back. The guys are charged.”

This coach inherited a program that has been confined three years to something of a long, dark tunnel, but the light at the end is visible now at last, and it is getting bigger.

Can you hear it yet?

Can you feel the rumble?

A locomotive is about to blast from that tunnel into daylight.

Please?

Way to misinterpret a quote, fool. He said nobody left the school because of the NCAA. However, recruiting was not in that discussion, suspensions were not in that discussion, and loss of bowl games was not in that discussion. 2011 saw eight players suspended versus Maryland, and a missed bowl game that led to the team playing flat in their last game. 2012 saw the NCAA investigation stop us from the ACC Championship Game and a likely Orange Bowl appearance.

You poor, deluded Gator troll. Learn to read, and stop twisting words to fit a non-existant beleif that anyone considers you a Canes fan, troll.

This is great news. Golden doing an unbelievable job. But things can change very quickly depending on the NCAA ruling and the "U"s performance in 2013. A harsher ruling than expected by the NCAA and another
7-5 season would hurt this class. Go Canes.

If we beat Fla. and F$U or/and win the ACC, we keep them +

Bottom line is that not only do we (the "U") place players in the NFL who really make a differrence, but our academic programs are far more reaching than just the football fields. I have both a University of Miami degree and UF JD; as a young man, in today's market place, I would select the "U" given its academic standing and personalized attention alone. A student at the "U" will rec'e a private education and attend a university with 9,000 total students rather than a public university with 50K plus students.

is a public diploma mill. They have sacrificed any integrity, academic or otherwise, to athletics. Look at the garbage they pump out every year.

Somebody lend Bernie Macen $50.00 to fix the crumbling buildings and decaying sewer lines.

Interesting how gator pukes jump for joy when the yget a big commit, come on here, blabbering incessantly, then brag for a year about their 5 stars and UM's "no stars", and about their #1 recruiting classes of 08 and 09, and bla bla bla

Yet the U is DESTROYING, No. Pause. DESTRUCTIFYING, The gators in recruiting for 2014, and they come on here sayingit don't matter

Same with doosch bag Calvin, who now has taken it upon himself to bad mouth the legend, Coach Shula.

Gators: You are pu55ies. Nothing moree nothing less.

Calvin: You are a certified dumb sh&t- ANd NO one cares what you have to say.

Yo Cane trash

Yo wassup clUcks, getting all puffed up over nothing again?

Yo got bad news for ya chUmps
He's baaaack!
With his worthless predictions
Means bad news for ya but then again it's the same as it ever was

Yo dUmmies I'm talking about Nostradomasse:

"2. UFELONS r getting spanked on Sept 7

3. Wait till those 2 star recruits get graded their senior years, Canes rankings wlll shoot up. 5=6 of those recruits were under the radar guys form summer camps that weren't graded yet

Lastly, 12=0 baby"

There U have it girls, dom the dUmb clUck gave U his predictions.
Last time he did it was around NSD
He predicted Alex Collins, Matthew Thomas, Denver Kirkland and others were all coming to the canes.
U know what happened, none of them did

So now he predicts UM will beat UF Sept 7th
Not gonna happen
He says UM will go 12 - 0
Not a chance
He rants some stUpid stuff about Ur lousy 2* recruits will turn out to be pro bowlers
Right
Nostradomasse has doomed U fools with his predictions
Too funny to let go without my imput

Yo cUmps Ur first beat down of the season is almost here
Manny gave the sell out alert
The Orange and Blue sell out
The Golden Retriever challenge is still on
8 - 4 sounds about right
Enjoy all the recruiting "success" now, when the NCAA hammers U most will be gone

LOOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
