The Hurricanes nab another commitment for 2014 -- he can run and he's from South Florida

Deerfield Beach Bucks product Brandon Powell committed to the Hurricanes Saturday night after earlier decommitting from Tennessee.

Powell is about 5-9 and 170 pounds. He ran for 1,180 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Bucks, and has good hands as well. He is a three-star prospect and listed as an "athlete'' by rivals.com, which has him as the 24th-ranked "athlete" in the nation. He is expected to play running back for the Canes.

ESPN.com has him as a four-star athlete and the 34th at his position.

Powell, who also runs track for Deerfield Beach, told SFHS Sports that he is happy about joining fellow RB recruit Joseph Yearby for the Class of 2014. "Just means I have to work 10 times harder. It will benefit us more. Make us better.''

Powell committed to the Vols in June and said that Tennessee was going to use him in the slot, and seemed happy about that. On Saturday night, he talked to CaneSport.com about UM's "tradition" and said, "I just feel comfortable at Miami. A lot of those players I know them, went to camp with a lot of them. It's my home town, so I just committed."

Powell brings UM's commitment number to 25, if you don't count some of the players who had to go to prep school.
