The Hurricanes nab another commitment for 2014 -- he can run and he's from South Florida

Deerfield Beach Bucks product Brandon Powell committed to the Hurricanes Saturday night after earlier decommitting from Tennessee.

Powell is about 5-9 and 170 pounds. He ran for 1,180 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Bucks, and has good hands as well. He is a three-star prospect and listed as an "athlete'' by rivals.com, which has him as the 24th-ranked "athlete" in the nation. He is expected to play running back for the Canes.

ESPN.com has him as a four-star athlete and the 34th at his position.

Powell, who also runs track for Deerfield Beach, told SFHS Sports that he is happy about joining fellow RB recruit Joseph Yearby for the Class of 2014. "Just means I have to work 10 times harder. It will benefit us more. Make us better.''

Powell committed to the Vols in June and said that Tennessee was going to use him in the slot, and seemed happy about that. On Saturday night, he talked to CaneSport.com about UM's "tradition" and said, "I just feel comfortable at Miami. A lot of those players I know them, went to camp with a lot of them. It's my home town, so I just committed."

Powell brings UM's commitment number to 25, if you don't count some of the players who had to go to prep school.

Is David Gilbert, the defensive end from Wisconsin, coming to Miami? He would be a very important addition for this year! Sorry about the transmission error in the first post.

Al Golden is ripping up the recruiting trail this year!! Already eleven 4+ Star recruits committed and counting!

BOOM!! Goes the Dynamite!

Our new Sports Facility has moved us up into the big time. Recruits see our commitment to the program not only on the field but in the Complex.

No more comments of; "the facilities are from 30 years ago", and "the 'U' has not invested in infrastructure."

Gone. Boom.
We have- "it's here"- now payoff!!!.
Great job.
Go 'Canes

Hurricane Al is blowing it up recruiting! This could be reminiscent of the class the Howard brought in that put us over the top in route to our 1st National Title. Great job coaches!

I like how these same idiots fail to point out that while the record was 7 & 5 in 2010 how many games did jacory miss, and Shannon and crew had to start True freshman smo17 and we 2 & 2 with hi starting barely lost the UVA game and should've won the usF game, would've been another 9 win season to possibly 10 win season, mark nipple blew the usF game along with the defense. Fact, jacory never lost to uVA when he finished the game against them.

smo17 is 0 & 2 against them, so for idiots to be that stupid to not realize that at the end of the day Shannon left a team with goldie that should've won at least 9 to 10 games if coach goldie was somehow head & heels above Shannon as a headcoach. Instead under coach goldie, we got weaker as a team. No matter how many players have come in in great shape as coach goldie has said, he said the team was in way better shape last year than when he first got here, but where did that get us. So Shannon's so called out-of-shape teams have been better than coach goldie's in-shape teams.

This is not about whether Shannon was a great or good coach, it's about whether it was a waste of time to bring al "mediocre" goldie, cause as it stands right now, he's not better than coach Shannon, and for a guy going into his 8th year as a headcoach, this team should be doing real work against other teams, but coach goldie coaches like he's a young headcoach just starting out with no experience.

This team is being built on confidence they can blast the combine but not other teams. That type of focus means nothing come game-day. goldie is more caught up in how players look physically than how they're actually playing on the field. People complaining about that 2009 team, saying it got pushed around against Wisconsin, last time I checked, Wisconsin only scored 20 points and with us having the ball last could've won the game, but it was obvious j70 was hurt.

To many clowns in here have no football knowledge whatsoever, it's like trying to watch a UM game with your girl who knows nothing about football but is trying to test U to see who gets more passion/attention the game or her.

The proof is in the "W" column. Enough of the L's, it's time to prove we can win. Miami has not beaten a good team in a long time. This program has a lot to prove. GO CANES

Calvin,

Nobody wants to hear your racist rants. Shannon was awful. He had to go. He sold his soul to Jacory and it didn't work. He left a roster with holes all over it. You have no knowledge of football. Go back with your bf Soup on your lame website.

If he is was such a great coach, why hasn't he even sniffed another HC job since he was fired?

To keep this 5* class we need to either win the ACC, or beat Foriduh and F$U...3 doable things..

Calvin's side of the story:

Shannon had a team that went 9-3 in 2009....

Shannon passed those players onto Golden....

Golden went 6-6 his first year with Shannon's players....many who were from that 2009 team....

Calvin states that AG is a bad coach because he could not win with Shannon's talent that was passed onto Golden....most from the 2009 team....

Facts:

Shannon DID go 9-3 in 2009....

Shannon....IN 2010....with his same now "true juniors"....digressed and went 7-5 losing to USF the last game AND the bowl game....Shannon is fired...like how Calvin omits THAT fact from above??

Shannon does "pass" those now "juniors" onto Golden for his first year....

Golden does go 6-6 his first year with Shannon's guys now seniors....hmmmmm.....wonder why?? Was it because he was a BAD coach or perhaps the following:

Yahoo scandal breaks....

6 MAJOR starters are suspended for the first game against Maryland (loss) WHICH GOLDEN and Co. almost win....

More are suspended through the first six games of the season...including Olivier Vernon who perhaps COULD have helped us tremendously against KState for example....

Calvin...you try to spin your stories but it just isn't working for you dude....give it up already.

So....if AG could not win with Shannon's players in 2011....then you would be willing to admit Shannon digressed in 2009 by going 7-5....A HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT....CORRECT?

"I like how these same idiots fail to point out that while the record was 7 & 5 in 2010 how many games did jacory miss"

Calvin your dumb logic AGAIN....YOU want give Shannon "a pass" because Jacory was not playing.....BUT...you STICK it to Golden his first year when he was MISSING 6 starters for the first 6 games....

Once again....your "spin" is not working....look look dumber with every post.

No Lady Calvin, you are obsessed with how players look. Golden is trying to develop players, and their weight/muscle/conditioning is a part of that process. You and your boy Randy have never figured that out.

You're the moron who said you can't gain weight and speed, which has been disproven repeatedly

bloggers have no idea whats happening outside on UM in the NCAA......

look at the NEW top 10 coaches, they ALL have a common trait.....they have winning records right out of the gate in their careers..

3. oregon - chip kelly (former) 46-7 (4)
4. stamford - david shaw 23-4 (2)

9. louisville - charlie strong 25-14 (3)
10. florida - will muschamp 18-8 (2)

UM - al golden 40-45 (1)

these guys don't have it....you will all see

Shannon was a horrible head coach, good defensive coordinator, but a very good position coach... Shannon couldn't manage a game, how many times did we blow time outs only to go into last couple of minutes without any time outs? What was it Green Bay coaches say about Sam Shields? The kid didn't know how to watch films...

Shannon helped UM get through a rough period and I'll be forever grateful to him. He is not, however, a big time head coach. He hasn't even been able to land a defensive coordinator job. That is a very telling fact that his most ardent supporters need to explain.

irrelevant issue since nobody knows what the reason is....maybe he doesn't want it...who knows, that's why stats and data that is measurable is all that is valid....his performance at UM was better than goldens/dnofrios.....its an undeniable fact.

the kids left for golden via shannons efforts are extraordinary.....UM has a coaching issue, not a kid issue.....golden/dnofrio are not proven for a big time program like UM....UM has settle for less vs other name brand teams that only entertain the best.....they would never hire a coach with a losing record...never, and it shows in the top ten teams for 2013.....EVERY coach is a proven winner....

golden/dnofrio are not

Gallo d Calvin,stfu about Shannon,he doesn't have a clue.

LOL at this fool Gallo

Let's not make Shannon the scapegoat for sam shields when it was Shannon who moved shields to the defensive side of the ball. This is fyi for you, in Shannon's 1st year, he knew shields was a db, I said that the first time I saw shields, so in 2008, Shannon told shields he should move to the defensive side of the ball, shields fought it and that's part of the reason he was in the dog house and that's part of the main reason shannon put him on special teams which was his evolution into becoming a defensive player, finally in shields last year he converted to db full-time, so in between shields fighting the move when was he going to study film when he didn't want to move to that position.

So of course he didn't know how to study film as a db h barely understood the position, so a coach being in the nfl saying he was surprised shields didn't know how to study film simply means he didn't even know who shields was in college, had he known what i'm telling you it wouldn't come as a surprise he just assumed since shields came from Miami he would know.

Does anybody blame frank beamer for vick saying recently, "he was never taught how to carry a football properly until chip kelly got their".

Does anybody blame jim tressel for t.pryor recently saying "he is just now learning how to throw a football properly".

If you talk sam shields he'd tell you that shanno moving him to db was the best thing that ever happened to em and he was developed enuff in 1 year under coach Shannon and the crime dawg McGriff where he's in the nfl now, had shields been under coach goldie he would've been off the team.

This is not a debate about whether Shannon was a good headcoach or not, this is about is coach goldie better than Shannon as a headcoach and as of right now, he hasn't been when you compare what Shannon was left with. If Shannon had guys like art kehoe and soldinger back in the fold he would still be here. james coley is doing work on the recruiting front, what's happening now has a lil to do with coach goldie, but most of it is being done by james coley, ask yourself this question, do recruits know what punishment is going to be handed out yet? Nope, so technically we're still in the same situation we've been for the last 2 recruiting classes, so what's different, coach goldie has been here, the only one new is james coley when it comes to recruiting.

The qb's committed now, do you think that's coach goldie or coley, lol, coach coley will get qb's to come here because his resume says he's coached at a few 1st round pick qb's and sevral others in the nfl, so he doesn't have to say to much after that.

Coach goldie and jedd fisch qb's ryan Williams, crow & dewey, james coley new immediately he had to bring in better qb's and is on the path to doing so. I said while jedd was here, the confidence he has in his ability to coach the qb position is overriding his ability or lack thereof to be able to evaluate qb talent from at the highschool level. james coley understand is 10 times better.

Offensively, we're going to be more power passed which fits right in the strengths of what art kehoe teaches, which in term will bring more big plays in the running game and that's how you get back to playing dominant football, being able to run the ball and stop the run.

rboud, don't get caught up in the "Shannon hasn't been able to land this job or that job" fiasco, go back an look at the timing of everything and don't speculate and you'll see the Truth. The main had a few d-co jobs available, he didn't want them, and just wanted to get back into coaching, you gotta understand Shannon could careless about the spotlight, most people didn't even know who Shannon was before he became the headcoach, won the broyles award and didn't interview, just did his job and stayed in the background.

That's what he's trying to get back too, and don't surprised if he's back in Miami before long as he d-co.

U keep trying to blame everyone else but Shannon. He was the man in charge. Regression, is what his teams we good at. Shannon's teams were soft!

Shannon did a good job for which he was hired for. Cleanup the program. Become better student athletes. I believe team GPA was a lot better under his leadership. Unfortunately there were a lot of Judas coaches on his staff. Who had their on agenda.

Why in the hell would we want him back here. He was such a great head coach ..lmao

Agreed ..but he was way outta his league. Stage was way to big fir him

Gallo, you can say Shannon left behind so many players, but he never coached any of them up. They were all a bunch of softies before Golden came in and actually instilled proper condition in them.

Calvin PLEASE just stop. If Shannon was such a great head coach schools would have been knocking his door down. Nothing wrong with your opinion an everyone is entitled to theirs. Just stop trying to push yours so much on all of us. We get it you like him. Now just maybe you should allow others to think what they want with Golden. If Goldens class all signs next year it will hands down destroy and class Shannon ever hoped to bring in. Lets move on and just be pro Cane fans and move on. Its getting old rehashing same argument over and over. Shannon is gone now lets cheer on this team and coaching staff.

When it's all said and done, AG will have a better winning % than RS who if lucky will go coach Northwestern since he loved them so UCF. We are getting way more So FL recruits now than ever under Shannon which is what we should have been doing all along. HS was right; we recruit here in our backyard and keep UF and FSU out (or to a minimum), we should be hitting at least 9-3, 10-2 seasons with the talent that resides here in Florida. Calvin, if you gave Randy 3 years give the same to Al. And what will you say when he puts us in a BCS game, or wins the ACC? What excuse will you have for Shannon then? Quit living in the past mate; the future is bright for the U. The best since 1999-2001 so let's focus on that and not what have, could have, should have with previous coaching staffs.

I'm with Miami Mike.
I know we still have questions on D, and
I know some of you out there don't like the coaches we have in place, BUT, we're 4 weeks away from probably our best season in 10 years!!
We are who we are right now. Let's support this team!

GO CANES!

9.7.13
BE THERE.
