UM season-ticket sales surge -- yes, Gators helped for sure. But winning is potion that will help most

In my MiamiHerald.com story today -- click here -- I wrote how UM's season-ticket sales have gone from 22,800 in 2012 to nearly the 30,000 expected to be sold by the Gators game Sept. 7.

It's "the largest year-to-year record growth we have on record,'' according to Miami associate athletic director for communications and marketing Chris Freet.

UM Athletic Director Blake James told me he realizes some of that surge has to do with the Gators game during a season when UM travels to FSU.

However, we all know how empty Sun Life Stadium was much, if not most, of the time last season. It had to be embarrassing for the program.

Bottom line is if the Hurricanes win, fans will begin to fill more seats. I'm curious to see, however, how many folks show up to the 8 p.m. opener against FAU Aug. 30th, a week from Friday. UM said it's too early to give an estimate, which tells me there are a LOT more tickets to be sold. If I'm wrong about the LOT more, somebody let me know.

If you're a fan, Friday night opener sounds fun to me. You get the whole weekend to recover and chill.

Anyone out there besides season-ticket holders going to the opener? And if you are a season-ticket holder, did Florida game have anything to do with your purchase?

Have a great weekend. I'm headed out of state to my nephew's wedding this weekend. Hello, NCAA? Anyone home?

But this game with UM and UF this year, does anybody thing UM has the stop defense to beat them? Sadky, the answer is no.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool Cat comes up with the opinion of the moment!!

And no, Miami does not have the defensive coordinator to defeat a LEGITIMATE Top 10 squad in Florida!!

Unfortunately, the good ol' boys at Canespace and eoth are still talking CRAP about how Miami is going to finish 10-2 or even 11-1. Huh

The bottom line is the Hurricanes will go as far as the offensive unit and special team play goes.

So here's looking at... a regular season record of 9-3.

Especially with the WEAKEST non-conference schedule in Cane football history, and naturally it helps that Goldie's squad is playing in the LAMEST b.c.s. conference among the rest of the B.C.S. conferences.

Yes our attendance has always been worse than our rivals up north. Their fans are always pounding their chest about how bad our attendance has always been. Last time I checked good attendance doesn't win you squat. Good teams due. That is why our rivals to the north can pound their chest all they want. You can have the attendance battle. The "U" faithful will take the 5 National Titles and the fact that the "U" has more wins than losses versus both of these programs. Go Canes.

And just for the record: I did not like that last game at the OB. Nobody did. I still haven't completely figured out what UM did wrong, but I'm placing, yes, placing a lot of the blame on the coaching approach.

%%%%%%%%%%%%

There's also the possibility that a certain percentage of the Hurricane offensive and defensive starters BAILED OUT on Coach Shannon, and left him looking around with no answers, to stop the national telly MASSACARE.

My criticism of Shannon was that he made a few TERRIBLE hires for his staff. Witness how that Whipple UNDERMINED Randy Shannon, for instance.

In other words, a General is only as great as the officer corps under him, and the grunts too! Huh

What does sanctions have to do with putting a d end in the flats with one of the fastest tailbacks in the country? No one has answered that yet.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

LOL... seriously!!

RANDY SHANNON DESTROYED WHAT WAS LEFT OF THIS PROGRAM. He should have ben fired after the Virginia game. 48-0. No way that guy should have gotten 4 years. Waste of time. Worst coach in 40 plus years. He's gone, Thank you, get over it. Golden gets his chance now, whether you like it or not. See ya next fri., GO CANES

ubman - I believe UM has reduced scholarships and limited practice time to soften any further sanctions imposed. Although I agree that the coaching on defense has been poor thus far.

/////////////////////////////////////////////

I'm not sure how you came to this belief, you must not have seen how many players were signed after National signing day as well as the players that just got picked up in the last few weeks, than you a bozo like clown 117th saying things like "we're always looking to upgrade our team". So far they think upgrading the team means bringing in a certain amount of rejects from other schools.

While shannon was the headcoach here we played top 25 defense for the most part, but no matter what, we played at least 4x times better defense than what's being played now. I remember coach goldie & hos boy clown 117th coming in talking how they're going to stop the run and this and that and complaining about the way saw players playing in the Sun bownl against notre shame and the "we'll get it fixed" talk starting flying in like hotcakes.

Lo & Behold, 2 years later we play notre shame and got beat worst than that Sun bowl team:

Sun bowl Team
Total Net Yards=397
Net Yards Rushing=196
Net Yards Passing=201
Score Miami 17 notre shame 33

Under coach goldie

Total Net Yards=587
Net Yards Rushing=376
Net Yards Passing=211
Score Miami 3 notre shame 41

Well hell, looking at this now, just brought up a new question, i think i we insulting shannon by asking whether or not coach goldie is a better coach than him, from looking this, the new question, is coach goldie a better headcoach than 1 game interim headcoach jeff stoutland, if people were complaining about shannon for a Sun bowl he didn't even coach, but goldie & his minion clown 117th was doing all that shat talking after that game than turn-round and get whooped like they did after all the "when we turn on the film and i freeze it i better see 11 people on the film" talk, and the soft tape talk and this and that, this sigmond & fraud act has just about run it's course with me.

Zookster has been missing

Truthful, stop LYING to yourself. Shannon was in the 1st year of his first head coaching job ever when we lost to Virginia ,but look what he did to Virginia over the next 2 seasons! Same thing with Georgia tech! Don't forget Shannon beat Bobby & Jimbo his 1st year also. But most IMPORTANTLY , Shannon left Goldie with a 7 win team with the # 22 overall defense in the country! Don't take my word for it, look it up! This is why you will NEVER hear Goldie make excuses, because he knows the fans are gonna make em for him :(

Not to disrespect UVA. That team was a a bit of a roll that OB game. They didn't have a great year, but had a very good year. But something happened where UM just went flat all the way around. Coaching was part of it and the real BS at the athletic dept at that point was already in the fan.

This is why you will NEVER hear Goldie make excuses, because he knows the fans are gonna make em for him :(

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The South Florida Hurricane football media-nexus are also Goldie APOLOGISTS. They are also Goldie and D'Onofio LAP DOGS. Of course, there are always exception to the rules regarding the college football media-nexus and what not.

Guess Shannon is to blame for Miami running from LSU in 2014, which would be Golden's 4th year as head coach! Lol

!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure nough', Goldie and D'Onofio HAD ENOUGH of the Celts and Kansas St's.

Fortunately for Miami, that Herbie Cornhusker team is vastly OVERRATED, and no longer a legitimate Top 15 school.

Otherwise, that Go BIG ot RED neck team would do a " Celt " beat-down on the Canes next season in Stinkin' Lincoln. hUh

Here are some of the quotes from "outsider" coach goldie after the Sun bowl lost in 2010:

////////////////////////////
coach goldie
A bad loss in the Sun Bowl provided plenty of good news for Al Golden. It confirmed exactly what he seemed to think of this team as noted in his opening news conference.

He said this team needed energy. It needed leadership. What it needs most of all is good coaching.
////////////////////////////

"I left there thinking that the things we need to do are fixable," Golden said Friday of the 33-17 loss in El Paso in which the 'Canes trailed by 27 in the fourth quarter.
//////////////////////////////

ROFL 41 to 3

///////////////////////////
Coach goldie
He said he saw a team that needs to be smarter, tougher, more disciplined and better conditioned, but also has a lot of talent and didn't quit.
///////////////////////////

This might be the best one yet below, because out of the mouF of coach goldie, he said exactly what has been said here today and blogs ago, pay attention to the last line, lol, "NO EXCUSES"

////////////////////////////
Coach goldie:
"This is a program that won seven games, but really had a chance to win two others in South Florida and Virginia," Golden said. "So we could be, with the right kids in the right places, moving forward in this recruiting class and getting the team all on the same page. It doesn't need to take a couple of years to get this thing going."
/////////////////////////////

Coach goldie again running his trap:
As for the Sun Bowl, "we're going to create value in that game by not burying it in 2010, but rather by showing it to our players as a kind of paradigm of what we need to do and what needs to be fixed," Golden said, "Because talent alone is not going to get it done."
//////////////////////////////

Well i got a question, if value was created with the Sun bowl game in 2010, is the regular season game against notre shame in 2012 priceless than?

Hell yeah!! Jeff Stoutland for head coach!
PSA per HTC - this is a blog.
I know, hard to believe but it's true.

Don't worry tallyCane, i'm starting to get the language/efensive verbage down pat now, whenever you see a d-linemen be it the defensive end covering the flats or the d-tackle being asked to go and try and cover the flats, this is what they mean & meant by being multiple, lol.

Those days of scheduling a difficult, challenging non-conference slate are FINITO! Especially with the new 4-team MAJOR college football format.

Then, there's the simple fact that the vast majority of teams from ex-B.C.S. conferences are FOLLOWING the S.E.C. format of playing a WEAK ARSE non-conference schedule these days. Huh

So Goldie is probably going along with the HERD MENTALITY of the rest of the major college football head coaches... avoid playing two squads from the Big 10, or Big-12, or even PAC-12 conferences.

Also, there's probably a legitimate reason why Goldie AVOIDED l.s.u. in 2014. Miami happens to play that Herbie CornSUXker team at home in '14. And playing two legitimate Top 25 squads is asking for trouble and what not. Witness last seasons games against the Celt's and Kansas St.

This season begins the ' new format ' of Miami NO LONGER playing TWO challenging non-conference squads, i.e., a particular team from the Big-10, PAC-12 or Big-12, for example.

For instance, this season and the next three seasons ( '14,'15 and '16. ), Miami will play only ONE solid non-conference squad.

2014- @ Herbie Cornhusker

2015- Go BIG ot RED neck

2016- @ Notre Dame

The rest of the teams scheduled for those seasons are teams from the MIGHTY m.a.c. and Sun Belt, for example. Huh Also, the usual Florida A@M and Bethune Cookman and Savannah St's of the college football realm.

Again, it's the S.E.C. format of playing an EASY, non-challenging non-conference slate. Eh. What say.

RANDY SHANNON WAS THE WORST COACH OF ALL TIME. HE DOESNT EVEN DESERVE TO COACH HIGHSCHOOL. UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA SUCKED BEFORE TIM TEBOW. NO MATTER WHAT ANY OF YOU SAY NUMBER NEVER LIE

The only thing Golden has on RS so far, is the proper usage and pronunciation of the word "freshmen." Shannon would always say "freshmans" as if the word needed an "s" to become plural lol. Every time he did it, my wife would fall out laughing. Thats about it.

Student body-----around what 30000.. right. Canes football has always been a tough draw except night games or big games. Who knows but I do know it is a great game to watch for the $$$$$$$$$
Go and enjoy

Hey D, go get your nurse to wipe the spittle off your keyboard you stroke victim weirdo?

LOL!

Where's Jim Gallo when you need him? Oh yeah that's right he is looking up stats and doing research so he can top Calvin's post of the year.

LOL, this man called that man's post "swaggerless" & excused filled, rofl!

Randy Shannon lost control before the first game was played with him as coach. All he did was make rules, then more rules. Showed favoritism, and destroyed what was "the family". Where is he now, linebacker coach. That's a big fall from DC, to coach, to LB coach. The truth is, he can't coach. Overrated recruiter. Just a complete waste of time. Hopefully, yes hopefully Golden will turn it around, now that the disease that Shannon left is all but gone. During the game next week, we will see who is home and who is a fan.

LOL, for real dawg, and this is why coach goldie started moon walking, i can't remember exactly when it was but even coach goldie admitted it was all on the coaching. He didn't start using the "investigation excuse" until maybe before the beginning of last season. i'm not sure when but remember these words from coach goldie as well, he knew:

When he said after the 2011 turtle lost:
///////////////////////////
Coach goldie:
"there was enough talent out their on that field to win the game"
///////////////////////////

So it was all on coaching than!

This just in....cool cat can stay in between the lines when he colors but sadly he is having a hard time wiping. Hey you can't win them all lil buddy but hang in there.

Who cares about when the announcement is coming, they'll probably announce it round the same time they announced the investigation and the players got suspended before the turtle game.

Smh lol. U can't make this stuff up Cal. I'm admittedly having troubles believing there is a such thing as a weak, swaggerless Cane fan. Its like an oxymoron to me, its like they shouldn't exist. Like why do U like Miami tho? What made U like Us? We used to kick ass and cut the lines. We aren't buttoned-up, gullible, excuse ridden, hypocritical, swaggerless & sacless jellyfish. We gonna be alright though. I'm optimistic.

For those of you who can't decipher Calvin's code that means he has no preferences on what color crayons he eats just as long as there covered in glue.

Former Temple DB Jaiquawn Jarrett appears to be quickly gaining ground on Antonio Allen for the Jets second starting safety spot. Rex Ryan was very complimentary of Jarrett, and said he’ll get a chance to play with the starters next week.

“Some guys stepped up in the second half. Jaiquawn Jarrett, without question, we’re going to give him an opportunity to . . . compete for that starting job,” Ryan said. “We’ll put him out there with the ones next week, because clearly he was out there and — talk about ‘Play like a Jet’ — that guy was in there and he did a tremendous job of hitting, communicating. Really liked the way he stepped up.”

Al Golden--Sid Rosenberg Interview

http://wftlsports.com/

Dorsey was a Hurricane great, but skills and talent-wise he was not better Jacory. If u take away the wins and accolades (if its possible for someone to do so--hypothetically) and put them on the field together for an evaluation with any collection of coaches or QB gurus--they'd all say Jacory had more skill and capabilities (more versatile). Its extremely tough for me to say anything good about Jacory after those INTs, but they did have some to do with having to play with injury, ,bad coaching and lack of offensive coaching continuity. He is a huge disappoint in my eyes, despite his TD totals.

Now Dorsey's noodle got exposed in the 2002 NC game and I'll never forgive him for that performance. One of the worst nights of my life. OSU blitzed him relentlessly, daring him to beat them deep to Andre Johnson--who stayed open the entire night--but he couldn't--over throwing him all game. Tressel's game plan was to disrupt him psychologically, to take his heart and break his will. He knew Dorsey was the weak link of that team (evidenced by the game plan to run blitz and attack recklessly). Tressel was correct. Our achilles was our lauded QB. He has a doo doo look after that first sack--he got up and looked dazed while their d-line was going crazy around him (Petersen and Wilhelm), throwing up the U and breaking it over their knees and taunting in a frenzy. I had a bad omen when I saw his face. They snatched his sac. I still want to fight Wilhelm till this day, he was talking the most ish. And when he twisted Winslow's legs at the end of that tackle--I lost it.

Dorsey = Jacory, that performance cancels out J12's INTs. I like Dorsey as a man and leader better than Jacory, who was emotionally fragile on a consistent basis.

But I definitely believe we would have won the 2002 NC if Jacory was the QB that night and with that team. Why-when I just said he was more mentally fragile than Dorsey? Because I just want to believe that we won that game--even in hypotheticas lol.

Just remembered: Tressel did the same thing to Jacory at the Horseshoe 2010--I was there--his heart got straight snatched!

Cool cat, you sir are a poser...everyone knows that coker was a coach that recruited those first rounders and a real fan knows the team asked for him to be head coach so they promoted him. quit posin'!

It's definitely confirmation that some of these so called UM fans are the "johnny come lately" type, saying 9 or 10 wins would be a successful season, lol, it's always going to be national championship or bust with me. Nobody that's a real Canes fan cares to much about that weak acc championship, it should mean just as much as the big east championship meant, it's just another game we won along the way in route to the national championship game.

It's a sad day an time when you got a national championship team with 2 losses(lsu, hmmmm 2007, lost to arkansas & kentucky), when they started doing that, crying shame. manufactored championship.

But why is it that we only had a 1 game improvement from last year, 2011 6 & 6, 2012 7 & 5, under shannon for 3 years straight improved 2 games each year.

the seniors graduated and juniors left early when golden came on.use your noggin calvin.

This man knows his football, the Truth is clear, had jacory had the same coaching, that dorsey had, the same talent around him that dorsey had, it wouldn't have been fair to college football. You see what jacory did once leonard hankerson stepped up, imagine jacory johnson, it might've been andre 3000 fo real.

That game highlighted what dorsey had been doing all year long, missing dre wide-open. The first time dorsey got breathed on his heart was in somebody else's pocket. The last play of that game was about as pathetic as it gets.

That's what they also get for not leaving crudup in the game. He would've hit the tight-end mercier in the flats on that 1st play, WIDE-OPEN, jacory would've torched osu that game, no matter who they had on defense that year, you give jacory the type of time dorsey had and it would've been a wrap for osu.

Posted by: 'Cool 'Cat | August 22, 2013 at 02:58 PM

-----------
Until his lat 8 games, JHarris was a turnover machine.
If you could look past your racial bias, you'd see Dorsey as what he was. usaually a big time player who made the big time throws when he had to, and not the mistake prone QB as was Harris.
At least Dorsey was drafted as well. Oh, and those championships. Almost forgot those.

I'm afraid U are right Calvin--a healthy J12 would have torched OSU that game, no way he would have missed Dre streaking like he was on Gamble the whole night. Dorsey held the ball too long all night, released it late and it still went too long. Johnson was open immediately after every 3-5 step drop. gamble was catching up to him after the sailed long and Dre was already pulling up on his stride. The cameras late arrival made people think that Gamble was sticking Dre--not the case at all. The announcers were choosing to say that Gamble was draping Dre instead of acknowledging that Dorsey was totally off and SHOOK. People get caught up on alot of things with J12, and they more than often forget that when he was on--it was his talent (his throws) not the superiority of his supporting cast. His throws were absolutely beautiful!

Dudes killin me with is race stuff, we talking football and some of yall keep talking about race because thats whats on your mind. Like if U bring it up first, it exonerates U from what U are to the core. This aint "Tag U it"...and U it until U tag someone else. Yall need a history lesson, but I aint even going there. Obama yall Commander-in-Chief and POOF!...now y'all the institutionally and systematically oppressed minority demographic lol! Sour grapes like a mofo! The same system that supposedly benefitted U, now draws your ire. That white privilege the elites sold yall for that undying support and unfounded feeling of superiority was a trick. Long hours worked at their factories and other capitalistic ways of life that yall have embraced wholeheartedly, have only amounted to the ability to get a cab 2 minutes before me and a false sense of entitlement that your skin doesn't truly provide U anymore. Its time to wake up, you've been used and your greatest asset has been monopolized--your time has been spent making them rich and U can't get in their galas--just like I can't lol. Our bank accounts and qualities of life are probably identical, so what has the hate provided u truly....nothing. A false sense of superiority and some minuscule perks that are almost extinct. They use race to divide the working class while they focus on their color--green. Their G.O.D. is Gold. Oil. & Drugs. They took the money and ran. Some of them are black too, the elites are every color. We are the same. They keep us fighting while they keep winning. As log as we're working and spending--consuming and being consumed--we can keep our freedom to do those two. Anything else and you'll get marginalized (the poor and homeless) or go to jail. Don't be the new modern day monetized slave and don't attack me--I'm the mirror--I'm not your true enemy. In ten years the Koch Brothers and their puppet Paul Ryan are trying to get rid of the middle class for good. I'll see yall in the chow line if we don't wake up--its more of Us then them. Being white don't matter to them. They'll break your heart if u think u have something coming because of that skin tone. It was never about race--it was always about labor (employee vs. employer). Resource scarcity (unfounded) paranoia leading to conservatism leading to: "What the hell do we do with all these mofo's!" They believe that in order to have--there must be have nots. Google Tim Wise if U don't like or want to hear it from me. Peace.

UM season-ticket sales surge -- yes, Gators helped for sure.

.

Susan, if you were to take this quote, UM Athletic Director Blake James told me he realizes some of that surge has to do with the Gators and did a little research, you'd come to find that out of the 7,200 surge in Cane Season ticket sales, roughly 6,000 of them were purchased in blocks of 4 by 1,500 Bull Gators for mere pocket change to them. And they are Visitor side seats from the 45 to 45 yard lines from mid-level up to Club level. They will then simply discard the remaining tickets to friends and business companies in the S. Florida area and essentially get to go to the Gator game Sept. 7th. in Miami for free.

Point is, Miami's "true" Season tickets sales are up less than 5% overall from that ridiculous number of 22,800 to 23,000 as Gator fans will be in control of the other 6k seats and probably light hundred cigars with them during the year.

HTC- you contradicted yourself within 2 posts, genius boy

First you said that Tressel took Dorseys heart out by blitzing him. Sure enough thats right---- but who brought theU back from beingdown in the 4th q to tie the game? Youignored the fact that Willis McGahee was taken out byWill Allen- with McGahee the outcome would have been different. Then yougo on to say- UMwould havewon the ship with Jacorry,LOL, But then you say that Tressel did the same thing to Jacorry in the show in 2010- What happened in 2010? This is what happened: JAcorry threw 3 ints. 1 or 2 in the red zone. He looked like a deer in the head lights. The only scoring UM got was from Lamar Miller and TBen. Joke corry asmitted to be texting with Terrel Pryor the night before the game.

I too was at the 2002 ship. Dorsey lost his 2nd. Yes 2nd game as a starter and he played his worse game ever- but so did the D, allowing 2 4th down conversions. THAT is on the DC who was the DC then? Randy Shannon. On4th 13 heallowed Krensel to sit in thepocket and have a cup of tea and rushed only 2. Of course Um got ripped off bc the more I look at the TD that wasnt, Glenn Sharpe committed nopenalty. That was robbery- so in essence UMwon the game. Only to be stolen by a referee 30 yds away from the play.

Joke corry is where now?

Randy Shannon- From Head coach to what... linebackers coach? There is a reason he cant get a head coaching job Calvin- The world knows he sucks as a Hc. The world except you.
