Canes biggest underdog in Top 10 matchup history Vegas insider says

Even though they say they're bunkered down and not paying attention to the outside world, it's bound to creep under their skin at some point before kickoff Saturday night.

According to ESPN radio host and Vegas insider RJ Bell, the seventh-ranked Miami Hurricanes (7-0, 3-0 ACC) are the biggest underdog in history when it comes to two undefeated teams meeting this late in the season. Third-ranked FSU opened as a 21-point favorite this week and at last check was favored to beat UM by 22 points.

According to Bell, there have been only two other instances of a double digit favorite when two undefeated Top 10 teams play this late in the season:

> Texas favored by 12 hosting Oklahoma State (Oct. 25, 2008)

> Miami favored by 11 vs. Ohio State (2002 BCS Title Game)

The database goes all the way back to 1980 according to Bell.

Texas beat Oklahoma State 28-24 and you all remember what happened between UM and Ohio State in 2002. If you don't, ask Terry Porter.

Canes running back Duke Johnson was asked Monday if this game was an opportunity for Miami to make a statement to the nation.

"When it comes to that, it's out of our control," Johnson said. "Whether an underdog by how many points, the only thing we can do is go out and play the game the way coaches want us to play it and everything else will take care of itself."

Is UM not getting enough respect?

"It doesn't matter whether someone respects us or not," Johnson said. "We don't care. We're here to play football and do it the way we're being taught to."

Exactly Five!!!!!.

Whenever we are forced to swim upstream against Florida State going back to Bobby Bowden, watch out.

No one could take it to the bank back then, after the Wide rights, wide lefts, without looking back on these two in rival games.

That is burned into our Psyche.

Our guys know tha tradition. I am sure Coach G will play Zone, give different looks, confuse the Golden boy and have Muhammed become a rabid dog on"Mr. QB" Cut him loose, unleash the fury of our D.

Also our OC Coley will have enough wrinkles to make it interesting. Steve plays lights out , we are there.. Hold the ball take time in developing plays and run, run, run . We'll do fine in a Close game.

Go 'Canes

Mark D'Onofrio's defensive schemes are perfect to frustrate a redshirt freshmen quarterback.

Force the kid to drive the ball the length of the field in small chunks hoping he will get frustrated and push the ball into areas he shouldn't.

I love those who are taking shots at Stephen Morris for commenting the FSU QB is a great player. Obviously, none of you have ever been in a competition, as only one example all of the greatest coaches in the history of the game have gone out of their way to compliment the team they were going to play the following week.

I think they haven't injected the ankle. He is faster and more agile than he has shown. It's defenately bothering him. However, for this Saturday it's balls to the wall. If they need to injected, go ahead. Use whatever means necessary to make him as whole as possible

Winston is completing 70% of his passes when being blitzed so don't expect too much of that ..Miami is gonna have to be disciplined in their zone and tackle in the open field to try and get them in some 3rd and plus fives ..if they do that Miami will hang in there and have a chance to win

Mark D'Onofrio's defensive schemes are perfect to frustrate a redshirt freshmen quarterback.

This is the kind of stupid 5hit that makes the blog bad. What evidence do you have to this? What qb has he ever frustrated.

Hey Five,

Come on in here and agree with this moron so he won't feel so stupid.

This rivalry produced my all time favorite football quote by any player EVER. When Miami was down by over two touchdowns late in the third quarter on FSU's home field, Michael Irwin was standing on the side lines laughing hysterically. When Coach ran up to him screaming, Michael looked him in the eye and said "These guys actually think they are going to WIN this game!!!!"
Needless to say the Canes won. The oddsmakers have kicked a cobra.

When your team sucks, your skewwl is located in a trailerpark and your coach is soon to leave, make sure to talk about SOS and your conference.

From:

The Gatr Trash loser's guide to football.

three down defensive Cane linemen and zone NO pass coverage, and the result will be:

FSU 42 (or much more)
Miami 10

I will put my $3 million dollar house that the semen holes wont cover

I've been a 'Canes fan since the '60s but I don't see anything good for the FSU match-up. If the U struggles against mediocre teams what chance do they have against a legitimate powerhouse? This may be the worst UM-FSU game ever.

This is the kind of stupid 5hit that makes the blog bad. What evidence do you have to this? What qb has he ever frustrated.

Your screen name best describes your diminutive intellect. Have someone with an IQ, say 80 points higher than yours, read and then explain my post to you.

ill take that 4th round or 5th round selection...still paid more so than the average american..white...black,,dont care,,show me the money

"When it comes to that, it's out of our control," Johnson said. "Whether an underdog by how many points, the only thing we can do is go out and play the game the way coaches want us to play it and everything else will take care of itself." .......duke johnson

“I think he’s doing an unbelievable job,” Morris said. “Obviously, it’s pretty hard for defenses to stop him. I know our defense is going to have a tough time. They’re a great offensive team. Jameis has done a lot of great things. He’s having an unbelievable season, I wish him all the best and I’m excited to see him play.”....stephen morris

"We ain't leaving without a victory. We ain't leaving without a victory. So y'all. Hey, my brothers, put a smile on your face. OK. Because Florida State, if we going to do it then, we do it big. Let's go baby. Let's fight."......jameis winston

these two are scared......'all we can do....." what kind of cane BS is that....talk about no confidence in winning the game....

I keep playing that video over and over......NO WAY UM stops that guy...fsu cant wait till UM come Saturday....nobody is scared or nervous about UM.....

I believe fsu feels they can have their way with UM....they know UM is not that good....

HurricaneBill,

Any given Saturday.

Unranked Utah beat Stanford, unranked Duke beat Virginia Tech, unranked Vanderbilt beat Georgia, so there is not reason to write off a #7 team against a #3 team.

Has FSU looked better so far on paper? Sure. But I can find PLENTY of examples of teams that looked like they had it made on paper that suddenly failed on the field.

Miami hasn't lost by over 21 in over a year, and that was to eventual title contenders Notre Dame with our old porous defense.

But the worst UM FSU games, would be the 47-0 running up the score blowout against sanction riddled UM in 1997 as revenge for our 47-0 blowout of the Noles in 1976. This game won't get that bad.

DOm predicted 35-7 over UF and we did win, signing day are 17 yr old kids. This is football/ DABO SAID- FSU IS NOT THAT GOOD.

Teams have bad games people. Look at the 02 ohio state game. 87 fiesta. BUT FSU IS A BIT OVERRATED. Nevada, bethune cookman They beat clemson, who always chokes every year 2-5 losses and never wins the big game.

Who else have they played???

UNC Just spanked BC this week, and BC lead clemson in 4th qtr and BC hung in with FSU

ITS UP FOR GRABS. IF Morris doesnt throw a pick we wont lose by 21..............

excuse after excuse......randy shannon left UM with nothing, the guy went the wrong way, too much freelancing, our schedule is too tough, fsu has had 5 yrs of recruiting.....on and on"

lets see...fsu has a younger team, the UM offense is all seniors, fsu QB is a freshman.....oh and while golden/dnofrio were crying.....fsu lost their OC (coley)....fsu lost their DC (stoops), fsu lost 7 top defensive players and their QB (Emanuel)......

but poor UM had those terrible sanctions, lol....btw UM had no sanction all 3 yrs until last week....

Five and Zooker are birds of a feather, they agree on most things hurricane that is why they believe the Canes are the best team in the nation right now.
They say the Canes will surely beat FSU based on past game results that have nothing to do with today. They believe in history and what Michael Irvin supposedly said 20 years ago, that will surely be enough to beat those Noles now.
Perryman needs to shout that quote from Irving when Winston and company line up. I'm sure that will sacre the heck out of the Noles.
Next play Morris can tell the FSU defense about how Utah beat Stanford, I'm sure the Nole D will get confused and lay down.
Great game plan by Five and Zook the blog geniuses.

Hey Dom are you referring to yourself in the third person? You say Nevada and Bethune beat Clemson and Clemson is no good. Then you say the Clemson coach says that FSU is not that good. So it logically follows that the Canes will beat FSU. Right?
So are Wake and UNC real tough opponents? Very good competition? Really? Domasse.

please there is no "swagger" in a golden hurricane team.....swagger is a bad word with him.....

I'd rater see UM take the penalties like in the Texas game....we still won...

"I aint scared of you bi...ch, alright baby, don't be scared now....were the boss"

this team is a bunch of pu'''sys

This game will be over before halftime. Jimbo won't call his dogs off either. FSU will move back into 2nd place after they whip the Canes by 40-45 points. Final: FSU 62, Miami 17. Winston will throw for 400 yards and 5 touchdowns. Read and weep 'Cane bandwagoneers!

Zookster,

Please provide one example of those qb's. And FAU or savannah St don't count idiot.

If Miami plays man to man, they will get killed....the experienced coaches will tell you, in fact coaches on ESPN today were saying that the canes only chance is to play a great zone, and man zone coverage with unexpected blitzes if they are to have any chance of winning. Also, turnovers and defensive stops won't hurt.

You morons who keep saying that we have to plan press man coverage with 4 down lineman are in La La land and obviously don't know anything about football

Good luck Canes,

^^^^^^^
Miami's defense will pressure FSU qb, the freshman. I want to see how he does when Miami is all over him. He is going to be too busy picking himself up of the ground. Miami already played a really good defense, the Gators , when they were healthy, and Miami was able to score against them. With that said, Miami will go to Tallahassee and comeback with a W.

How about Driskel duh?

Posted by: SlapJohnson | October 29, 2013 at 05:31 PM

Another internet tough guy! After your Seminoles lose Saturday, come back Sunday and apologize.

Sad thing is Driskel was able to move the ball up and down the field against the canes, only messed up in the red zone.
Winston doesn't throw many picks and can move the ball a lot better than that anemic Florida offense, he will have a career day against the canes.
You lose again fools.

This game will be closer than people think I hope. Bc had over 200 rushing yards on the noles and had Clemson on the ropes in Clemson. Unc ripped bc a new one in bc.if we come out and hit the noles the way we did fla if we can catch them it will be tight. We must run the ball upwards to 40 plus times to win. Turn it into a streetlight and keep it close we will have a big opportunity to crush the doak. No turnovers and very minimal penalties is the way to beat fsu. Winston will throw us a pick we just have to capitalize when he does.

Posted by: The Truth | October 29, 2013 at 06:06 PM

Come back Sunday after your Seminoles lose. 'Canes are going to be victorious Saturday. We are not that far talent-wise and it all comes down to execution. 'Canes will out execute your 'Noles Saturday and come out with a W from Tally.

Be very afraid and plan on on having an extra pair of underwear, just in case.

OL..OL..OL If they play to their potential, FSU will be facing the best OL, QB and RB that they seen all season. It will be a shoot out if our OL comes to play. We also need the D to step up and put in some blitz packages to get to the Winston a couple of times. As 21 pt. underdogs, UM has nothing to loose. They need to be aggressive on defense and take some chances both on offense and defense. Give them looks that we haven't used and that they haven't seen all yr long.

Go Canes,

That's the best thing I've read here, been saying that for weeks. WF through the bald underneath the zones and canes did not tackle well. That must change by Saturday. Run d has been pretty good. What I don't like is the interior not looking for the ball while engaged with the line men. TC31 was chicken fighting with a lineman head burried in his chest when WF scored that rushing TD, had he looked up the stop would have been made. Furthermore they dont fire off they stand straight up.

Although I'm not a fan of the 3-4, it gives you more flex ability, a 3 down line can be made to look like 6. I also would like to see bush#2 in some OLB in the 3-4 set, gives much more range in the zone underneath. We get decent outside rush its up the middle where we have to get tough. I think OL Sonny Odogwu would beast on the D line up the middle, kid is strong and full of energy

I believe fsu feels they can have their way with UM....they know UM is not that good....

You believe... You also believed UF would put []_[]s in our rightful place. How about 21-16? You also believed Shalala destroyed the football program. What you think or believe means nothing.

Zookster,

Please provide one example of those qb's. And FAU or savannah St don't count idiot.

Again, your screen name, DUH!, perfectly captures you.

I'm not going to waste my time on someone who when you present facts doesn't understand them.

[]_[] boys have fight and been battle tested on both ends. I have all the confidence in the world in these kids. They can play physical or finesse. We'll see what happens when the going gets tough for the Seminoles.

Looking forward to Saturday with all the confidence in the world. Nuthin to lose round here.

"It doesn't matter whether someone respects us or not...We don't care. We're here to play football and do it the way we're being taught to."

- Duke Johnson

Galloinda doesn't even know what the word all means.

"the canes offense is all seniors"

Sure it is.

be careful i remeber some years past what a game fsu favored miami won but fsu went on to play oklhoma for the nationl champ game and lost never under estamatie

Exactly the reason why we will lose....these players are "programmed" like robots. The 2001 team would have a different attitude and not let you know.

But....still holding out hope.

MEANT to say "they would let you know"....above

I still think that this will be a very good game. To state the obvious, Morris's performance will be critical if we are to be competitive.

If Morris flails, I sure hope Golden has the guts to put Williams in. What would we have to lose? Hopefully defense won't get rattled and will hang in there.

Really looking forward to watching this one.

cane since 82 is so right . Whether they have been #1 two times like 1988 and 1991, or coming off 2 straight BCS games in 98 and 99, the underdog Canes always win. Even the 2009 1st yr Jacory as a starter team went up to tally and won in 4th qtr.

They will choke somehow. U 27 Fsu 24

It takes a special kind of moron to say No D scheme is perfect to frustrate a qb. In 3 years who can you use as a reference. Not even Ms. five has agreed with you so you know that's a dumb statement.

The last 3 yrs the talent level was 10 vs 6 now its 10 vs 8 1/2 we have similar talent at starting level, but they have an extra 1-2 class lead of 4 star depth.

No way this team runs on FSU. They will take that away and force a scared Morris into mistakes, killing us. Morris has lost his mechanics, and it shows. NO way we get 100 yards without a better QB.

Gallo,u are a pathetic individual. You post nonsense all day long,I feel sorry for u dude.

Ok..Facts Folks...

FSU has been killing it...FACT!

UM has been cutting it close with wins...FACT!

I live in Tallahassee and can tell you everyone up here is looking for an predicting a FSU Blowout...FACT!

Vegas is predicting a blow out...FACT!

FSU thinks they will dominate...FACT!

UM has not really played a decent full game...FACT!

UM v FAU - Starters played very little
UM v UF - UF good D...UM struggled both sides of ball
UM v SS - Starters played very little
UM v USF - UM up early lots of back ups played
UM v GT - Really the first full game for starters (4 UM turnovers!)
UM v UNC - UNCs Bowl Game! If you limit the turnovers it is a different game...outside of the turnovers and some missed takles UM wins going away in that one...second full game for starters (4 UM turnovers!)
UM v WF - Big emotionally draining week for UM...came out flat (NCAA FSU next who knows) WF had a lot of SF guys a couple of decent wins...good coaching, etc...third full game for starters (No UM Turnovers)

So what does that mean...it means we really have not hit our stride yet, but there is potential if we do...

Let FSU go into this game confident they will blow UM out...it works best for UM if they do...after all that is what they do...

It depends on which UM team shows up...the slow starting one...we have a tough time...

If the UM Team that does ther job shows up early...it will be a good game an UM has a good chance...

Only time will tell...I like UM chances here...only if they protect the ball...and do their jobs on D...they have to tackle...cant miss wiff or not wrap up...

So...if we play like crap...we will get beat like Clemson...

If we play up to our capabilities...protect the ball...dont give up the big play on D...it could be Special...

Saturday Night will be interesting...

Go Canes!

You present a special kind of stupid. If your tiny brain can read and understand the following...D'Onofrio presented the schemes I am talking about against Florida, which forced Driskel into 2 interceptions and 1 fumble. Now! Have someone add 2 plus 1 for you and then explain that is precisely why Miami beat the Gators.

For the third time, your screen name, DUH!, fits you like a glove.

It is nice to know you love nature...in spite of what it did to you!

despite all the hype it will come down to 3 things:
(1) running the ball
(2) SMorris staying within himself
(3) Chickilo and the defense play hard and keep them in 3 rd and long

They still play the game on the field-not in the papers and especially not Vegas. Come on Canes give us your best effort and we can pull this one out.

????

based on what!?

Explain to me why Miami will have no running game, other than because you think so. Where do you all get this magical thinking from????

FSU admitted to ESPN that hey have had difficulties with power running teams (BC & BCC...interesting the B's and the C's...)

One of their LBs was quoted as saying there D seems to be more suited vs the Spread and Teams that rund the Spread...dont think that is UM...

Do they have Athletes on D...yes and good ones...are they as tough against the run as UF...No! UF has the #8 Rushing D 100.7ypg vs FSU #29 135.7ypg

UM has the #24 Rushing O 214.7ypg

FSU most difficult game was BC 48-34 it was 17-3 BC early in the 2nd...before...

FSU hits a 50+ pass play on a 2 play 75yrd drive to make it 17-10 and then goes on a 28-3 making it 38-20 late in the 3rd.

BC was only down 4 early in the 3rd and 11 at the end of the 4th...

BC Rushing D is 84th 184.3 UM Rushing D is 39th 141.7
BC Passing D is 77th 239.3 UM Passing D is 17th 200.6

BC has the 86th ranked D UM has the 18th ranked D...

FSU is 8th in D UM is 18th
FSU is 4th in O UM is 23rd

UM is going to be the best D that FSU has seen...yes I understand it might not be enough...but if BCs D had been better, it would have given them a better chance in a 14pt FSU win

Yup...understand what FSUs D did to the 18th ranked Clemson O, but Clemsons Rushing O is ranked on spot back from BCs at 58th...UM has the 24th Rushing O one spot in front of FSU...

On paper, this looks like a good game...

The Key is our Running Game...as if we can get a running game going early...that should help SM and the passing game out...If we can do that...we should score..

FSU is going to score...the question is can our D good enough to limit FSU a little bit...

I can see why this is a challenge just by the numbers...UM is playing it right...keep it close dont give up the big plays...give yourself a chance in the 4th...

Go Canes!

Weren't you the guy trashing Golden for giving up the bowl game and ACC championship last year??

Also, if you don't think that the investigation had nothing to do with recruiting, well, I guess you continue not to have a clue.

You don't have to listen to us. Just listen to everyone else out there who's giving their opinion of Coach and the direction of this program.

Danm it. Once I realized this dude was not a Cane fan I said I wouldn't respond. Especially the way he's representing his gutless self.

As for the dilUsional dude...It's actually gotten to a point where he's embarassing himself (tick, tick, tick,....pufffff)

******

Let's pick off a couple of those "Famous" floaters down field and get up on them early. I don't think Winston win be as patient as the Wake QB was on the short throws. Force them to take the long field. We're going to bend, we know that. The Noles having a 6 or 7 minute drive isn't a bad thing. Just tighten up in the red zone.

Coley HAS to know a thing or two about their defensive tendancies. Morris needs to take the short-to-mid stuff. Protect him!

I want to see how cool Winston is when the score is tied at 24 in the fourth and we're bringing some heat.

GO CANES!
