Blackout vs. Whiteout? Yes. "Zero Dark Thursday" for UNC -- Miami Hurricanes will be in all white

Wouldn’t it be fun to have a good guys vs. bad guys game?

    It's happening, folks.

Not that the North Carolina Tar Heels are bad guys, but they will be, after all, dressed for the part. Well, at least usually that's the way it is.

For the style conscious among you (or just those who love the look of football uniforms), the Tar Heels will wear all-black uniforms against Miami in a game billed in Chapel Hill as “Zero Dark Thursday.’’

The Zero Dark Thursday theme, of course, is based on the acclaimed 2012 movie Zero Dark Thirty, about our manhunt for Osama bin Laden. But hey, Tar Heels?...C.I.A?  UM?...bin Laden?

This will be the night UM Canes come out in all white.

UNC described the all-black uniform occasion in its game notes as “the first installment in the ‘Tar Pit Series,’ which will feature an alternate uniform or helmet for one game each year.

“This year’s alternate uniform color has been taken from the black tar in the Tar Heel logo.’’

UNC coach Larry Fedora, who reassured UNC fans that Carolina blue (UM fans would rather think of it as baby blue)  and white “will always be our traditional colors,’’ said it “made sense to have a black-out game this year after the success of last season’s white-out game vs. Virginia Tech.’’

   UNC won that game 48-34.

   The Hurricanes are nine-point favorites.

We need new Uniforms..... Our uniforms look so out dated. we didn't even get the new nike material like the nfl has. I wouldn't mind if we switch from nike to Under Armour. It would fit THE U dress in the U...

Go Canes

No ... Because we would have to give up our school font that nike gave us .... Plus under armor is terrible and cant compare to nike . Also we should just get the nike pro combat uniforms we had in 09 against USF and make those our road uniforms

Its not a fashion show...it's football.

As much as I can't stand the Gators, at least they didn't sell out to NIKE. They still wear the classic block numbering on the chest and shoulders, and triple stripe on the sleeves. Like we did back in the day. Of course their helmets (and current record) look like garbage.

Cane tidbits of the Orange nd' Green sort. hUh

Not only will YOUR Miami, Florida Hurricanes play in front of an ESPN national telly audience.

37 N.F.L. scouts and 6 general managers will be in attendance on Thursday night. Those N.F.L. personalities must surely be zoning in on a host of Hurricane seniors and a few Carolina Blue seniors, too.

FWIW... the Canes have a winning record ( 15-3 ) on Thursday nights.

Finally, I SEE-r Goldie's squad flying back home with another victory and a winning 16-3 record on ESPN Thursday night football.

This is a dangerous game for the Canes. Golden will have the guys prepared and focused, but that doesn't guarantee a win. Win this game and there's a very good chance this team can get 10 regular season wins, maybe more, who knows. Lose it and things start to get precarious. There's no doubt UM could lose to FSU and V Tech.

The past two games against South Florida and the Crumbling Wreck, the Hurricanes have had a few more turnovers than what Goldie wants to see from his offense.

Thus, Miami CAN'T afford to give away the football on Thursday night. Especially on their own end of the synthetic-turf. dUh

"Hurricanes ranked in AP top-10 for first time since October 18, 2009"

And they proceeded to get their arse handed to them.

You are what your record say you are. Randy was mediocre. End of story.

Spoken like a True hater, no matter what any of you sissy's say, shannon had UM ranked #8 in the country, like obama that kind of history can't be erased that easy!

Since SealTeam Six were the visitors that night, I would be glad that the home team is bin laden and we are coming in to revenge their attack on our home turf last year. Let them wear black, good guys wear white.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the GREAT American president F.D.R. once bellowed... " Only thing we have to fear is fear itself! "

So it behooves Cane loyalists to bloody CEASE with the skittish, fear of a LAME ARSE Carolina Blue team!!

Yeah, yeah Carolina has OWNED Miami in the past and what not. So it's only natural for Hurricane zealots to experience a degree of worrisome doubt. And I totally understand y'all's concerns regarding the Tar Heels. hUh

Nevertheless, Goldie and his staff and most of all, the entire team is absolutely focused in on the task at hand and will return to Coral Gables with another win!!

itch davis is not there and since he left, the talent level has slowly been eroding, he was on the verge of having that team playing for a national title. The only reason saban and bama and the boys look like they do is because itch davis is not with some college team, especially back home. One things for sure, smo17 didnt look good last year against unc when he was 100% healthy, so now going into that game less than 100%, we'll see what happens.

So much for alex figs, thurston armbrister said he not giving up his spot no time soon to the young one. tracy howard needs to go ahead and get a pick or 2 soon, cause artie burns is on his arse fo real. Once we get deon bush back in the fold, that'll definitely be an upgrade over where-see rodgers!

Speaking of Hurricane uni's and what not. W-H-Y can't Miami continue to wear their traditional Orange or Green uniforms. dUh

Green tops over white pants.

Orange tops over white pants.

Or, ALL Orange/ALL Green jerseys and pants.

Yeah, yeah there's also the White jersey and White pants with stripes.

Tell em d, we know we got the players, do we have the right men leading them is the unanswered question. I'm real glad coach goldie is starting to understand "we haven't done anything yet" which is exactly what he should've said last year when we got handed the fake coastal title, instead of sitting their giving a speech knowing full well it was b.s. as well, he didn't take that opportunity to man up and say "look guys, i know they calling us the coastal division champs, but let's be honest, we lost to uNC and i don't know about you guys but they can keep that coastal trophy cause I DON'T ANYBODY HANDING US ANYTHING, SO KEEP THAT TROPHY, AND NEXT YEAR, WE'RE GOING TO COMEBACK FOCUS, DEDICATED AND TAKE WHAT'S OURS!

Yes, it's most certain that Stevie's ankle WON'T be 110% the rest the season.

Still, a 90% ankle of Morris' is enough to defeat a Carolina Blue squad going through the Blues of a losing season. Eh. What say.

There's Calvin getting his daily dig on Morris. What is your obsession on constantly taking shots at Morris?!?!

Why do you feel like you have to point out his shortcomings or spout some idiocy about Coach Golden??

There's Calvin getting his daily dig on Morris. What is your obsession on constantly taking shots at Morris?!?!

//////////////////////////////

You call it taking shots, but ask yourself a question, do you think if smo17 has a game against Unc like he did last year, do you really think that'll impress the scouts that'll be there or were you impressed. If he was balling, that's one thing, like duke johnson, he balls, those fumbles he had were no big deal to me cause like the concussion he got against the gaytors, duke sometimes will give way more effort than he has to because that's how bad that man wants to win every game so he'll over do it from time to time. He's one of those rare guys where you have to tell him to dial it down in certain area's of his game.

Also, once gus edwards gets a good chance to go thru the off-season work-out program, he's going to be pretty decent, he's natural back their toting that mail.

Wear the white tops, green pants, black socks, and black shoes. That's our classic, winning look.

Calvin,
Everyday you mention something negative about Morris. Regardless, how well he plays you always throw in something you feel like he should have done better. If Morris throws an interception it's because he can't see linebackers but if Duke fumbles the ball it's ok cause he's a baller!!! We (Canes fans) are happy we have Morris and will live and die with him!!!

Wear the white like VT game a few years back...lost starting white and gore ...still mauled them .

Tyriq mccord around the edge get us another white fumble

I've always liked working some green into unis. Jerseys or pants or both.

Spoken like a True hater, no matter what any of you sissy's say, shannon had UM ranked #8 in the country, like obama that kind of history can't be erased that easy!

Posted by: Calvin | October 15, 2013 at 01:08 PM

Only a nit like Calvina cites someone's midseason ranking, as if it means anything.

No player development. Slid into oblivion.

duke johnson will have a big game...canes win 35-20. im driving up from charlotte on thursday afternoon..can't wait

I DON'T CARE IF WE ARE "BUTT NEKKID" AS LONG AS WE WIN AND I THINK WE WILL.. IN PASS YEARS NC'S TALENT WAS DEEP WITH NFL CALIBER PLAYERS BUT THAT LEVEL HAS WENT DOWN OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS. NOW WE ALL KNOW THAT TURNOVERS MAKES A DIFFERENCE SO IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE TURNOVERS THE LAST 2 GAMES MUST BE CORRECTED IF SO THEN CANES WIN BIG 45-17 EVEN IF THEY ARE"BUTT NEKKID". GO CANES !!

Kirk Herbstreit today on ESPN said that the ACC and the BIG TEN are equal, R U SERIOUS KIRK..I am all over him on twitter. The ACC has 3 teams in the top ten undefeated. Kirk has always been fair to the UUUUU, but he said the SEC and PAC 12 were 1 and 2 and the ACC and BIG TEN were equal....WHAT IS HE SMOKING

Shannon was and is a great human being. He is also a Cane and always will be. The only problem with Shannon was he lobbied hard for the job and had a great long term plan. Then he went through a divorce and he and his plan fell apart. He started favoring players, which caused him to lose quality guys like Arthur Brown, etc. His recruiting suffered and he took the easy road by focusing on one SF team. Compare that to Golden's camps, adding coaches that can recruit and expanding the search base. Most important, Golden is centered with a strong family that supports him. That makes it easier on him to work long, exhausting hours. Poor Randy didn't have the emotional support and it affected him. I pray he is sound now as he will always be a Cane.
Cane.

Canes will win by 28 points

All Black Uniforms with a remade helmet Go Canes!

Miami 63 - NC 17....

Miami Team Six 35,
North BinLadenina 21.

35-14 when it matters. Another late TD gift by our backups against their starters for the final score.

https://twitter.com/UNCFootball/status/390106961209229312/photo/1

Here is their blackout Unis.

They don't suck, I will say that much.

But what matters is the players inside the unis, and Miami wins that battle.

Uni's do make the players feel that the game is special.

In fact Duke is quoted as saying"Look good, play good!" I agree up to a point.

That being said the product on the field is THE MOST important.IMHO.

As long as we have our 'U' logo, and our attitude, it does not matter one flip what uni's are used.

We are warriors, with a mind set of playing the hardest, and most productive game that we can.

We have something to prove on Thursday, and that is
"The 'U' is on the way back, and we will NOT let anyone step in front of us. We leave it all on the field". America can watch but the bunker mentality that the team has is us against everyone, every game.

As fans let us enjoy, but also respect the mind set that the Coaches have instilled.
Go out and get it, it is not a given, and while you are at it, let everyone KNOW that you got it.
That is the 'Cane legacy.
Go 'Canes

Playing at UNC, I tend to think the officials always favor the tobacco road teams. Against GT, the ball was spotted short one too many times by the line judge who was not really close to the play. The line judge tried to take away Dallas's go ahead touch down and thank heavens for the replay.

'Canes need to come out sharp and score early and often. Take the officials out of the game early on.

The "U" is 2 and 4 versus NC since 07 and 7 and 8 overall. NC has played a very tough schedule and even though they are 1 and 4 , they are battle tested. Their loses do include at South Carolina and versus V-Tech. NC did beat the "U" last year and are playing at home. So logic says they will be playing with some confidence. The "U" has to get off to a fast start. Can't let NC hang around or things could end poorly. Go Canes.

Football, and on the other side, they kept giving them an extra half yard to turn fourth downs into first downs. I hope that as part of their tape review of the game, the coaching staff showed them the plays that were over and over again given to GT to keep the game closer than it should have been.

Right up there with the Cleveland Gary TD that the Notre Dame refs called a fumble after it was yanked from his hands as he lay on the ground.

So tired of the games being 11 against 15 on the field. We should remind the ACC that we are no longer the new kids in town and that we are a marquee team, they should be treating us fairly.

As for Morris: He's got to learn how to throw screens and set up screens. That's part coaching.

As for Morris: he's got to throw to the TE more like quick dumps over the middle. if I got a guy from the Muck like Walford, 6-4 and 260 lbs, why am I not thinking about him on pass plays.

As for Morris: He's OK. he is nowhere near being considered one of best out of UM. But he knows how to run a pro offense. That means he'll be drafted.

RS: Ranks as one of the all-time best ever recruiters, forget UM, in college football. Not a bad coach, considering he was prevented by administration from really have full control. All things considered, if RS came through the Hecht Athletic Center doors right now, they's be smart in hiring him all over again.

Walford is underused and faster than some people think. If he was used more, the O would be that much more dangerous. Rogers has to make his presence known either against the run or against the pass. He's got game experience, but has to read the ball and player better.

And why is the FB so underutilized? That's coaching, too.

If I got a guy like Hagens, I git at least 12 plays ft the FB.

The D MUST show up this game. No siting back in the passing game D. UNC is hungry.

I will give DunnoToday, DunnoThursday, JustPlainSimpleDunno some credit though. he has devised a D where the emphasis is not on the DL. That tells me that he knows what's going on.

Posted by: Five Titles | October 15, 2013 at 05:12 PM

I agree. In 2005 vs GT, the replay official repeatedly kept slowing down our O at the pretext of trying to spot the ball correctly when we were marching down the field in the 4th Q. Clearly, the score shouldn't have been that close (we were unprepared and underperformed) and eventually lost the game, but I thought these replay breaks provided the needed breather for the GT defense to get organized.

I am always willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the officials, but with modern technology this systematic favoritism is easily noticed.

Walford is a good talent, he should be seeing the ball a little more. I just think Morris is instructed to read deep first and it's open. Morris can throw intermediate, it's the screens and such that he needs to work on.

Bring back the old uni's with the gold helmets and the hurricane flag.

Calvin,

1st off, you need to get your panties out your arse and stop being so sensitive about smo17, the facts are clear. Can he make alot of throws, no doubt, the real scouts will get a chance first hand to see for themselves. Ask your self this question, if you're a scout and you see smo17 having the same type of game he had against Unc last year when his ankle wasn't hurting what are you going to do. I call it like i see it!

I will give DunnoToday, DunnoThursday, JustPlainSimpleDunno some credit though. he has devised a D where the emphasis is not on the DL. That tells me that he knows what's going on.

LOL, the d-line is only being asked to waltz with the o-linemen only to stuff the run than after that, go to their secondary pass rush move and get to the qb. If we play a good balanced offensive team, that's when coach donfrio will more than likely go back to being oach OH-NO, but for now, us having the top passing defense is almost comical, but it's exactly where we're suppose to be with the schedule we've had, somewhere at the top of all the defensive categories, right now our defensive ranking is a mirage, now come some real consistent competition.

Posted by: Canesjunkie | October 15, 2013 at 06:12 PM

You know, I was looking for the highlights of the game in 2005 vs UNC. That was when we last used those throwback uniforms and the gold helmets with the hurricane flags. We were trailing the first half after making tons of mistakes but the D came out and killed UNC in the second half. That was John Bunting's UNC squad that had pulled an upset the year before, so they were cocky and got hit in the mouth. That was one awsome defense that Randy had put together. The following week was VT and it was all D.

I'll be driving up Thursday also.. I don't have a white canes shirt.. dark green for the win!

Football,

I was there....right after Wilma. ESPN had to bring lights in for the tv audience.

And not just that at home support, but from the troll and her minions(particularly, locutt, nipple & the snitch), they didn't want shannon here long term or to suceed so they pulled the switch as soon as the opportunity came, no way was mark nipple going to help put up points so shannon could stay longer. Than when shannon got axed, nipple was trying to plead for his job with coach goldie, goldie said, "if you can do all of that, why didn't you do it while shannon was here", GTFOH.

I'm sorry, did we not play and beat what's considered the best defense in the country? Morris threw how many td's in that game?

Clemson is a home dog against FSU, wow. Talk about a slap in the face.

They didn't want Shannon to succeed? So they hired him and extended him (genius move) so that he could fail?

You can't be serious.

No they (DS) or Kirby wanted to RS to succeed. R U kidding me? RS was at best 5 years and that was with a "we don't dislike U" extension.

The fact is: RS had no where near the budget as his predecessors did. I know that and so do U. he managed to get top recruits because he's from the state and connected throughout the state.

Evidence of poor administrative support is the myriad of OCs we had under RS. Why do U thing he gave Nix a job? he thought Nix was an up and comer. He stumbled upon Whipple and found out that, for whatever reason, Whip din't want to really unleash.

In my book, I find LITTLE wrong with RS. But I find a LOT wrong with the administrative decision while he was here.

Think about it. The game is not purely played on the filed.
