« VIDEO: Golden, D'Onofrio, Canes players react to win over Georgia Tech | Main | Five signs the Canes are heading in the right direction »

Hurricanes coach Al Golden: "Seantrel is a grown man. ...I'm going to let Seantrel speak for Seantrel."

Al Golden just spoke to us on his weekly day-after-the-game teleconference, and he made it clear that he's not going to be making excuses for or talking about right offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson.

Henderson, who was suspended for the Georgia Tech game for an undisclosed team violation, can speak for himself, indicated Golden. Now a senior, Henderson has been suspended at least three times as a member of this team. Golden said he'll be back with the team "tomorrow morning" and "moving forward.''

Here's exactly what Al said about Henderson:

"As it relates to Seantrel, here’s all I’ll say: Seantrel is a grown man. He’s not a freshman  or sophomore. He’s not in here with a new coach or new athletic director anymore. I’m going to let Seantrel speak for Seantrel. I’m not going to answer these questions for Seantrel anymore.

"I think he needs to address it next time we’re available to the media. I’m going to let you guys ask the questions and let him address it. I think it’s really important that he stands up and takes responsibility and let him communicate that to you guys.

"Let me make it clear though, he’s back with us tomorrow and we’re moving forward. As it relates to Seantrel let him answer your guys’ questions, but as it relates to our team, tomorrow morning when we get back there he’ll be with us and moving forward."

Golden raved about the play of the offensive line in UM's win against Georgia Tech, saying the line was "fantastic.''

The coach also said it's important that quarterback Stephen Morris fully heals before North Carolina, and that if Morris is hurting, he needs to communicate it to coaches and staff members during the week.

Your thoughts on Henderson? This line is obviously special, and will excel with or without him. However, if Henderson can't get it together, the numbers are thin enough to be worrisome.

Seantrel never got off to a
Normal start but he is still a good person. A lot of $$$$ rides on the next 8 games.

Morris will never "tell" them he's hurt. They're coaches. They can tell if he's gimpy, just like we can. Maybe need to start Ryan vs UNC if Stephen is still hurting.

Why would Al Golden ever speak for any of his players, especially a senior? What does that say about your trust in what your players are receiving from their coaching staff?

Seantrel is his own worst enemy. Al Golden and Art Kehoe have done everything possible to teach and lead Seantrel to not only be a great player, but a young man that is also a great contributor to society.

Firstly, he should be the most dominant offensive linemen in college football and a team leader. Unfortunately, he's not even the best Canes linemen and is not a team leader.

Secondly, had he dedicated himself and followed coaches Golden and Kehoe he would have most probably been a first round pick in next year's NFL draft.

Why would Al Golden ever speak for any of his players, especially a senior? What does that say about your trust in what your players are receiving from their coaching staff?

Hmmm...other than most every coach in college football regularly speaks for their players...you've got a point.

Wait! That's not right! No, you really don't have a point and are attempting to stupidly ridicule Coach Golden.

How about this junior...get a life!

COACH GOLDEN IS 100% CORRECT IN HOW HE HAS HANDLED THE HENDERSON SITUATION AND I APPLAUD WHAT HE DID. HENDERSON IS A GROWN MAN AND HE IS NOT A FRESHMEN ANY MORE.. AT SOME POINT HE NEEDS TO GET HIS ACT (NO HIS SH.T) TOGETHER IF HE THINKS THOSE LITTLE THINGS DON'T MATTER THEN THIS WILL EXPLAIN WHY HE WILL MISS A BLOCK IN A CRUCIAL GAME OR JUMP OFF SIDES OR GETS A HOLDING PENALTY.. PAYING ATTENTION TO DETAILS IS WHAT HELPS GOOD TEAMS BECOME GREAT AND STAY GREAT(ASK ALABAMA). THIS EXPLAINS WHY THE CANES ARE BECOMING CONTENDERS RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES..I AM AND WILL ALWAYS BE A COACH SHANNON SUPPORTERS BUT THIS IS WHY THE TEAMS DESPITE VERY GOOD TALENT DID NOT DEVELOP OR PERFORM UP TO EXPECTATIONS BECAUSE OF LACK OF ATTENTION TO SMALL DETAILS LIKE GETTING BETTER FROM YOUR FRESHMEN YEAR TO YOUR SENIOR YEAR. GOLDEN WILL FIX THE TURNOVER PROBLEMS WE A HAVING RIGHT NOW WHILE STILL SCORING 45 PTS A GAME AND GETTING BETTER ON DEFENSE!! HOW ? BY MAKING SURE THESE GUYS ARE ALL IN OR ELSE!! GO CANES !! WE OWE NC FROM LAST YEAR!! TAKE NO GAME LIGHT.

A physically gifted guy like Seantrel hasbeen cajoled all his life, told how much money hes gonna make, and nbever struggled to be "The man". He quickly found out that in D-1, particularly in big time D-1 football there can be 2-3 guys just as big as him. And he hasnt been able to devlop a work ethic which he never had. Thinking that his sheer size would gurantee him a starting spot. Throw in a weak personality and upbrining and bingo- you have a guy, who could hgave commanded one of the top 3 spots in the draft by being dominant this year. Had he busted his a55 in the off seaosn and ouright ripped the starting tackle position away from anyone else, and graded high week in and out, he'd be just that a guranteed top 3 draft, which

translates to MILLIONS $$$$$

iTS NOT TOO LATE, but he needs to get rid of that prima donna diva attitude.

Someon on another bloog pointed out how lacksaisical Kacy Rogers was in the first quarter. I agree. Wtach the film. he looked either hung over or just didnt want to be there. Those two are the last couple of remnants from the Shannon years. we need to get that out.

That said, the U moved up one spot in the AP poll. I laugh at voters in these polls who have kept Louisville (who has played a worse schedula than Miami), and one loss SEC teams up high. Its ridiculous.

Lets write the president and ask him to shutdown the NCAA

Seantrel needs to put some ICE on His attitude evidently. go Canes!

The ACC has shown there are some really bad teams, this year. The talent level at Miami is vastly greater than all ACC teams, except for possible one. That being said, anything less than 13 wins is an absolute failure for this coaching staff. A Coastal Championship, the ACC Championship Game and bowl game are a total of 14 games.

Think again, Susan. The line is better when Henderson is playing. He'll be missed if he messes up again and has to sit out games. As good as Linder is, you don't want him at left tackle against speed rushers. He just hasn't played there enough.

"Weak personality and upbringing". This is the exact type of nonsense I'm talking about. You don't know Seantrel, so how about you lay off the personal attacks

Ever since the Canes started winning regularly, and especially after they beat my beloved gators, I'm nowhere to be found.

I know it proves that I'm just nothing but a lowly pos troll with nothing but hate for the canes, but what did you expect from a completely disgusting loser like me?

The fact that I don't post anymore proves without a doubt that all those terrible things said about me here were true, and that I'm the biggest most pathetic loser in the history of Eye On The U,

Manny,
Am I a bad person for hoping that Clemson breaks Winston's leg before we play F$U??
sincerely,
MH

Well said Gallo!

And who is the idiot calling himself ChampCane. A-He may wish he was a Cane, B-this is another one of Gallober's zillion alias or C-he is just as big a moron as Gallober, Calvina, or Cool Cat. The question is which one.

This is how you run the offense!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

So! You claim this is how the QB should run the offense???

In the 2011 Georgia Tech game you reference Jacory was 8 for 23 with a total of 140 passing yards and one interception and no touchdowns...and no completions to the tight-end.

Yesterday's game with Georgia Tech, saw Stephen Morris with 17 for 22 with a total of 324 passing yards, three touchdown passes and two interceptions...and 3 completions to the tight-end.

Seriously Calvin, go peddle your bullsheet and lies to the mom's at the pee-wee games.

Me in Harriet have been on a bender but its time to lay-off that thang right now. Don't wanna wear it out prematurely. D with another mini stroke posting dribble no one can understand personally asked me to help decipher his psycho babble while he watched vehemently as I bent Harriet over and you know....

Seantrel just solidified his spot as a backup for the remainder of his senior year, and obviously hyrt his draft position.

It's too bad; he'll probably still contribute off the bench; but he really killed any chance he really had (if he still had one) to redeem himself as a bust. Good backup, and we need him; but with his talent--he's a bust.

yea, defund the Ncaa

Cane Nation ...... gotta a mint it feels good to be a Miami hurricane again ..... next NC under the lights prime time / statement time !!!

Well the poll crap will work itself out because all those teams inc fsu v Clemson play each other .

I will be even if we r 6 or 7-0 the loser of fsu or clem will still b ranked higher. usually if 2 tp 10 teams play they only drop 3=4 spots when a loss happens. If Miami is 7=0 and clem beats FSU then we need to b ahead of FSU...just a fact.

11 of our 24 kids committed now r on espn 300 and that doesn't even count those late kids that are 4 and 5 star kids that play the hat game/ You add 1 more top class of athletes to this class, and now your talking about depth

now that Coach donofrio has players and not kids we actually have a decent D. what I think we are laoking is the old cane lB core. The speedy lbs' at 1 point we had barrow Jessie armsteead and Darrin smith at LB all the would make the pro bowl .. That's LB's

That's what we need the 4.4 to 4.5 speed LB. to go with Tyriq and Quan........

Finally, a good post from Gallo, even if it was a bit disingenuous.
Now, if we can only get Calvin to admit being a loser and disappear as well, we will have a useful discourse about the Canes. PS I do believe we are on a UM section of the paper, no?

PPS
Manny, wishing another person ill will, especially when you don't even know their nature is beyond stupid and a sign of your immaturity. You should go the way of Gallo and his son Calvin.

Sentral is still a great football player. Will be a first round pick. Had Golden recruited Sentral the issues he is having would be a non issue. Just go ahead and get rid of all Shannon recruits so we can move on. Everybody in feel good mode because of early success. Shouldn't the canes be undefeated anyway. Schedule check time. This team should go undefeated anyway.Sentral keep your head up.Chase your dream. We are all family here at the U thru good times and hard times. Sentral you have 9 more games to go Get focus. Lead from the front. Not from the back..What is your legacy at the U going to say about you.

A couple of quick points. Seantrel has got to get his act together. WE DO NEED HIM ON THIS TEAM because he is still uber talented. If he does not get his act together, well, it's next man up and we will be okay. To say that we do not need him though, is not true. We need as much depth as possible at all positions.

As regards those banging on him and speaking about his upbringing, just stop it! All players who have issues are not brought up by crack head moms and don't know who their daddy's are, as you would love to believe. They are many kids IN LIFE, not just in sports, who are raised well and grounded, but THE CHILD decides to not comply with life's rules. The issue with Seantrel is his and it doesn't need to be laid at the feet of how he was brought up, because, guess what, you know nothing about how he was brought up.

As regards someone posting that the 'Canes are the 2nd best talented team in the ACC hands down, I guess you have never heard of a team called Clemson or FSU (being as I know you rated one of them above UM, which one, I have no clue). Saying that the season is a failure if UM doesn't win 13 games this year, that is far from the truth. I would love for UM to win 14 games this year, but I am a realist. If UM gets to the ACC championship game this year, it is a successful season. UM has NEVER played in the game. We have not won more than 9 games in the past 4 seasons, so again I would love to win 14 games and win our 6th NC, but I believe in taking steps to that process and getting to the ACC championship game and winning 10 regular season games, playing in the ACC championship game and winning a bowl game would be a very successful year for me, seeing as how mediocre this team and program has been for the past several years.

Seantrel is letting his team down by getting suspended. His stock is falling and he needs to become dominant in the upcoming games.

It seemed rushes along the edge worked for USF and GT. Hope the D works on their alignment for such plays.

The Canes made a giant leap forward this past Saturday due to their highly improved offensive line play. If this trend continues we will be very hard to beat.

On the opposite side of that coin is the Dolphins. Their offensive line play is atrocious and cost them a game today they should have won.

Wonder what Seantrell did. Guy is going to cost himself some money.

Read what I said about Seantrel. Read it carefully before you respond. I stand by this. Why? Bc this IS NOT SEANTREL HENDERSONS FIRST DISCIPLINARY ISSUE AT MIAMI. AND THIS IS THE YEAR WHEN HE WAS SUPPOSED TO DOMINATE FOR HIS BENEFIT AND THE BENEFIT OF THE HURRICANES. HE HAS A WEAK PERSONALITY IT SEEMS. MY OPINION. NEEDS TO MAN UP. LIKE THE BIG MAN THAT HE IS. THIS TEAM IS BETTER WITH HIM AND HIS ANTICS ARENT HELPFUL. IF PROOF COMES OUT THAT HIS SUSPENSION WAS NOT DUE TO A DISCIPLINE PROBLEM, I WILL EAT MY WORDS AND APOLOGIZE.

On a historic note- UM was 6-0 in 2004, having beaten FSU in the first game of the season. Then they played UNC and lost. Then they played Clemson at home and lost. Golden is doing it right, keeping these kids settled down (judging by an post game interview I listened to with Duke). UM needs to take these games one at a time. Good thing UM has a week off to rest and heal, and prepare.

correction they played Clemson away in 2004

Sentrel has realize, and the same goes for J. Clowney, that they both are NFL draft picks, with the latter being the higher of the two. None the less, Sentrel will be making more money than the rest of us come next year and even though it will not be Clowney type money, the league minimum is still $480,000 and maybe he is fine with this number, I know I will be.

Ron Zook,

They also lost because
1. Tannehill underthrew two TD passes, one to Wallace that he had to slow down and then fall down to catch, and later the fourth down pass. That was 14 points that instead was only 3. The announcers praised both underthrows, without acknowledging that in both cases the recievers had to slow down and twist their bodies to make a catch that they could have caught in stride.

2. A defense that was supposed to be stout gave up 20 points in the second half, while our offense scored THREE. If not for the lofted Pick 6, we would not have even been in position to win or tie in the last minute.

3. We relied on a kicker from a team I will not mention, who thought he was from FSU and missed it. It was a miss as soon as it left his muddy foot.

So glad the Canes have a team with a reliable offensive line, solid defense (after a gift first quarter and yet another gift ending TD), and a kicker that can handle pressure situations (like tying it up at halftime). I wish the Dolphins had the same, but Al Golden >>> Jeff Ireland.

So now we have 10 days to prepare for 1-4 UNC. My first concern is this: UNC is not going to be the team we have seen so far. They were actually doing very well against VT despite the 21-7 score, but the penalties were killing them. Then ended up outgaining VT and only had the 3 turnovers kill them, with a fumbled punt in the red zone, and an INT in the VT red zone that because a 10 to 14 point swing.

Unfortunately, as we saw in this GT game, a team that normally gets 10 penalties a game will suddenly only get 3 against the Canes. So their late hits, false starts, and pass interference penalties will suddenly disappear, and we will have to beat UNC and the refs.

GT was leaving early on the snap run their cut blocks a BUNCH of times, only got called for it once, late in the game when it didn't matter because they were passing. Worst was when they called GT for an obvious encroachment, realized their mistake, and then called Miami for a bogus false start (no replay because no movement happened) to undo it. But they were tackling our players way out of bounds, with no call, but scoring a TD leads to excessive celebration on Miami for WHAT? These ACC refs were generous to UF, and now to GT, so I can picture 11 penalty UNC getting suddenly "disciplined" and having no calls go against them.

BTW, overdue saying this, but thank you to whoever on the Herald read the troll's comments and deleted them, it had made this blog MUCH more readable.

I do wish that Nick O'Leary had not gone to FSU. Can you picture Miami with O'Leary instead of Cleveland? I bet that Morris would find him alot easier than what we have there now.

I think our D is susceptible to edge and perimeter runs. On GT's first 24 yard run, one of our guys got cut down by their receiver (who was that, any one know?). It used to be that our guys used to avoid getting cut down last year and the year before.

USF also showed that some edge runs by either the QB or RB was working in spots and I am sure UNC is going to try that. Hope Coach D has a fix in place for this.

I think the Cane offense looked great. I hope Morris is healthy by the time they play FSU. If the Canes can get by the next two games without him, they should rest him.

The Cane defense finally had four down linemen. But it was still a dumb'o three man down linemen for most of the game and especially the first half because all of the linemen were inside of the GT tackles and DEs.

Finally, in the second half Chickillo moved to the outside of the end or tackle and then slid off to the flat mirroring the ball carrier until the pursuit caught up with them. That shut down the end runs and won the game.

The Canes are going to need to blitz the FSU QB every play. Or he will pick them apart just like he did to MD.

There are good coaches and bad coaches. Zero st, NDamn, Ore, Stanford, ALA, LSU all have good coaches. Dumb’o still has a LOT of learning defense to catch up on.

I hope the Canes just play one game, one play at a time and don't look ahead to FSU, and that the Canes don't get fat heads from their wins. And they need to run a lot more and get into better shape.

NICE CROWD AND NICE TARP!

Lord we completely shut them down in the second half except for one short field TD gifted them by Dorsett and Cane fan72, who is likely 72, comes on here bashing our D coordinator.

What a moron.

Great win by the Canes and great second half adjustment to some new formations GT implemented during their bye week by Coach D.

Some people just don't get what our coaches are accomplishing here.

CANEHATER,
5-0

Kacy Rodgers was very shaky in this game. If he cant play better they need to get Deon Bush more reps. Deon looked healthy enough on special teams. Kacy will get picked on and cost the team a game if he doesnt rebound. Rayshawn Jenkins also started slow but improved.

72,

There are lots of good teams that run a 3-4, including Alabama.

You sound concerned about FSU. Relax. They played Maryland at home.

Looks like it was Rayshawn Jenkins who got cut down and was completely taken out of the play by the GT receiver on the 24 yd run by Deon Hill. The D is playing is very well, but I want them to pitch at least one shutout.

Go 'Canes, beat UNC.

Seantrel it seems to me (agreeing with 9>5>2) is not a Leader and has a weak personality.

If the Coaches expected Seantrel to step up and lead with actions on the field, along with study and work habits, helping and mentoring new players, he might not want to carry that mantle.

No leadership skills, no responsibility. He just plays.

He may just want to put in his time, do his thing, and then jump to the next level. So he right now is just punching his timecard.

Where he is wrong, is the thinking that he can dictate or manipulate, the thoughts and opinions on the next level.

No one wants someone who is difficult to fit in their system, and the Coaches recommendations play a major role in selectivity. Do you seriously think CG will recommend or endorse this guy?..Hell no..

CG said "let Seantrel answer his own questions, he is a grown man". In My opinion yes, BUT NOT ACTING LIKE IT.

No one holds your hand in the NFL.

Senatrel is doing just enough to get by these next games in his head, but we should worry if his approach in College is suspect. Think what may happen when the supposed $$$$'s roll in at the next level.

I have my doubts about consistency with this guy!!!
He has shown ZERO in his checkered College Career at the 'U'.
5 Star!!! are you kidding?...Actions of a walk on, no talent..

Very very DISAPPOINTING! Very Undependable!. The 'U' needs him more than ever with this teriffic team, and this is what he gives them!!!. The old ME< ME< Me< BU******
No excuses that he could ever utter will make fans think anything other than this guy was a BUST..
Go 'Canes

We didnt miss Seantrell yesterday. It's a shame bc this guy could be a real leader on this team. I say he should move to second string.

72,

Of course you are wrong again, which is a common theme in all of your posts.

Coach D ran 4 the 3 almost exclusively in the first half. When he finally had the opportunity to go to the 3-4, that you constantly complain about, it produced an interception at a critical point in the game.

Coach D ran the 4-3

CAne72- Doosh boy still disrespecting coach Donofrio?

You forget that Miami is 5-0. What there is to disrespect, moron? Or is it you dont like the guy because he is white? Ahh that;s it! Bingo. cane 72 and calvin dont like donofrio bc he is caucasian. There you have it.

I agree that Kacy Rogers looked slow and bored out there. Come on playa. Time to act like you want to be there. Otherwise, next!

One thing I agree with Cane72 is that they WILL have to blitz jameis Winston A LOT! Sitting back there and allowing him the time to pick his receivers will kill us.He willpick our D apart with Jimbo fishers goony goo goo bubble screens. Our D will need to come out hard and aggressive from the get go and punch the young manin the mouth early to rattle his a55 a bit. That hasnt happened yet this season. Once he is rattled, he will start running before he throws and hurrying up his throws. Believe me. We have done it before: Marcus Vick 2004 or 2005. the U defense came after him like junkyard dogs
