serious question. Does anybody know if there are talks about a football stadium for our Canes? I know one on campus is probably never going to happen but perhaps tropical park or even a partnership with the MLS team ? Leaving the OB left us homeless, Dolphin stadium or whatever is called now is a horrible venue, it is death it has no soul.

Imma think good thoughts today about the Canes and Coach Golden and D'Onofrio.

I realize that hatin' on my team does nothing but put den bad vibes out there. And i wuz a true Canes fan, i should be root in' for my team regardless of how they be doing.

I realize that doggin' on my team means imma bad fan and too spoiled from the championship days and needs to wake up to the present and realize my team is rebuilding from scraps and an NCAA witch hunt.

Which coach Golden pulling in a couple solid recruiting classes and gettin' the team in shape can only mean they gonna be solid from here on out!

Go Canes Yo!!!

I be getting' Jiggy with them Canes YO!

Calvin, I have been thinking the same about my statements of the defense over the past 5 games. I noticed a subtled change in the formation the last game, but I am still puzzled about this unit's mass subs and not ready for the next snap. The information or play-calls from the sidelines and frequent subs are my major concerns going into next year. I really like coach Golden, but I will not confuse personal character with coaching. Over the past three years, we do not take away what other teams have presented on film...which is their best players. Defense should be the foundation of the team...not the offense protecting the defensive flaws (DC and talent).

Susan:

Do you think our Special teams can utilize the conditions at Heinz to get us some extra points?.

Also we need to get Craw and the Bus in motion to keep pounding. What is your take of run, run, and then Steven with the Bomb?.

Hope Coach C adjusts to conditions in calling the O as the game progresses?.

The D should step up to the best game of the season!!

Happy Thanksgiving and Bundle up Susan.

Go 'Canes

Run the ball all day Canes. Minimal passing.run, protect, run protect, run and protect. We beat Pitt and we get a decent bowl game. I hope they final score is 45 - 42 UM. Then maybe we will start looking for a defensive coordinator. A bowl with an sec team would be nice to finish the season. Too bad that other team in to sucks so bad they wont see a bowl. Would be nice to beat them twice. SC or LSU would be nice.

Thanks for setting up this blog today!

I hope the Canes come out and play hard, execute well and win. Defending Tom Savage will be tough, given our secondary's tendencies toward playing off guys, and the DL's inability to pressure the QB. If we do a D'Onofrio - Golden perma-prevent defense, Savage will shred us.

Donald on their DL will be a challenge in pass protection. A good passing game for us will exploit a Pitt weakness in the secondary in terms of speed.

So the game could go either way.

Throw in the cold weather, and that favors the guys who play in it daily. No excuses today.

So a W would be great and I hope the Canes play their best game of the year.

Go Canes!

Bummed as hell i'll be on a couple plane flights today and will miss the game live.

Go Canes baby!!!!

jorge,

I totally agree. We need our own home. Whenever this topic comes up, the naysayers blast it away.

I wish we had a stadium on campus and found a way to make this happen. It has to be within walking distance for students. It is long overdue and should be a priority.

Knock down the Irrelevant Studies Building, you know ethnic and gender blah blah majors!

Sun Life is a no soul place, agreed, and until we get a home, that energy will not be present for most games. It makes a huge difference.

In the interim, beat Pitt today! Be road warriors!

Susan, these are some good questions, but I don't think we have the right offensive scheme for the conditions at Heinz field. Short passing game to the TE, RBs, and slot receiver have not been our strengths this year. Rather the bubble screen, I would like to see TE screens or short crossing patterns. I would like to see us use Crawford as a receiver on 2nd down across the middle too. As for the WRs, 10-15 yard curls! The wind will play funny games on the long balls, but Morris has the arm for these conditions. The "Bus" need to run behind his pads, because he runs too high for to be a physical RB.

Now, I like the defensive adjustments made last game, but the DBs are still gives too much space to cover short passes...not able to effectively support the running game too. Our MLB need to play big!

I've seen your post, you know football, these 2 morons mentally are scrubs and do not deserve to be able to preside over nothing UM. Brining a style of football that is foreign to the players they coach/recruit, to the community/fans, to those in college football who hate UM as well, the only legacy these 2 morons are upholding is penn disgrace every 20 or so years play for a national championship style of football and hope other teams make unforced errors, we don't need that here, while we sit by and watch idly by and watch other teams use our blueprint to keep playing for or winning titles.

ohigho fake has a faster team than we do now. The reason it's parity is because these 2 morons have brought a philosophy to UM that has brought us all the way back to the pack and paired us with mediocre team. We use to always have a team speed advantage, that's gone now, you hear commentators making has been & use to be statements during games when they say things like "you can't run side-ways against the speed of this Miami defense, than all game long teams keep running to the right side of the defense around the corner.

I can't watch this team play defense, these coaches blaming players is stupid, won't be long before it's a mutiny, he can't cut the whole team. He'll go back into talking & begging the players by saying we're all a team and are in this together and this and that.

Go 'Canes!

No Calvin , your wrong. DNo will be gone after the bowl game. They probably already have the next d coach lined up so there will be no questions from recruits. We can win today but I think its up to Foley to call more running plays and do it fast to keep our guys warm. Whoever commented on the D not being ready at snaps is dead on. Countless times I have wondered why these guys are not lining up. They wait until the last second and scramble to get into position. I even saw a few plays wherein 1 guy was down when the other team snapped the ball. Thats on dno . Thats why he is gone after this season.

Calvin, I am a professional counselor...not a coach. However, one of the basic of a counselor is to understand the culture and/or community working with/in. I had to learn the difference in culture to ensure the best clinical approach for each client. My concern with this coaching staff is that they are not considering the football culture of South Florida. Coach Golden often states that he is changing the culture at the U. I know he is not talking about character, because Shannon had clean that up, which impacted his ability to prepare properly as a head coach. South Florida footbal culture is about speed, power...then scheme.

The first, coaching cannot teach! Secondly, proper training in off season will help...but not at the expense of losing the first...speed! Finally, the scheme is developed based on existing teams skill players on both sides of the ball. It is hard to block speed and cover speed...period.

The great teams have good defensive players. The U culture never focused on the QB position...just someone to manage the talent around him (Ken Dorsey). The best lineman were on defense...not offense (Jerome Brown moved from OT to DT & SAPP moved from TE to DT). The backup RBs became LB and Safeties! The backup receivers were the starting CBs. Basically, the best 22 were on the field, and each player had to earn snaps. The U never focused on depth, because competition in practice created depth.

The U and South Florida Culture - 101

RHC just killed it!

Its really doesn't take 3-5 years to see if a coach understands this championship contention based philosophy.

All these excuses are smoke-screens for reality--a reality that still exists despite what some say.

Everybosy wasn't raised to follow blindly and ride trains when U know the wheels are falling off. U make this world go around and we appreciate your type, but its futile to try to convince others to do the same, who were taught how to think independently and trust what they see.

Zakkee, stay warm today man and don't kill your voice too much when you're stuck standing for 40 minutes of clock time cheering for that prevent 3-4 defense with Green pretending to be a linebacker so Alverage can pretend he was a great coordinator at Virginia in his 30's when they still won nothing. Either way, he'll be half a game above or below the .500 mark at season's end, completely overpaid and on the warm seat by bowl selection time.

Very good advice, I lose my voice at Cavs and Browns games for no reason as well. Today will be extra deadly with D'No at the wheels and the cold. I'll have to temper my emotions or I won't speak until at least this time next week.

Someone stated above that Pitt was a dirty stinking town, they couldn't be more wrong. I've been to almost every Metropolis city in America and Pittsburgh is close to the cleanest and definitely most friendly (overall) I've visited. I love it here.

RHC,

Fair points about understanding the culture. That is a first step in a thorough "diagnosis." The next is engaging the person/player in a development and change process where a kid and a coach take responsibility.

But a coach must understand the origins of a kid, identify their potential and bring those gifts forward.

In that regard, I agree, Penn State guys are a bad match for UM. Too rigid and unimaginative.

21-16,

I hope you are right about a new DC. If we watch the Canes again sitting back and getting shredded underneath by Savage, a good QB, the rigidity of these coaches will again be evident and painfully so.

However, I hope our passing game is on today, and that we see some underneath throws from Morris. Pitt's D front is tough and so I question our prospects for the running game today. Their secondary can be beat. Morris has to make reads, not get happy feet and throw into coverage. The big O line must pass protect well.

Go Canes!

Once again, I point to UTexas as a team that made a major coaching change midseason on defense that is paying off nicely...

Auburn. 3-9 last year.

Even the 3-3-5 defense of Rich Rod's AZ...

Coaching AND players...

A win today would be nice, but Pitt's juggernaut offense is about to shine.

Dear Pitt, leave the middle of the field alone, our defense has it locked down.lolol.

21-16,

I hope Dino is gone after this game. That guy has to go, I don't know how much more evidence Golden needs to see. Playing 1st and 10 the same way you play 3 and 43 doesn't work.

***********

Good point about the Longhorns, beedharphong.

I believe the Great-Grandpa head coach CHIT-CANNED his suspect defensive coordinator, about four games into the season.

And Texas's DEFENSE has IMPROVED as the season progressed and now the Longhorn's are 8-3 and probably will be 9-3 after their season concludes. hUh Go bloody figures'.

oh yeah, D; almost forgot to mention

USC - just wow.
Auburn - 3-9 last year, same players.

AG has done a great job of recruiting, no doubt. Great.
Our defense still sucks, no doubt. Poor guys get left on the field consistently for 80-95 plays per game because they can't make stops; then our offense goes 3 n out, or has a quick strike...bad mix.

487 to UVA...best game of defense's year, according to DNO...What's pitt gonna do? I call 480 at least.

I smell some VT like special teams break downs, some fumblin', some dropped passes, some ints....

Any time Golden's teams see an opponent over .500, it means a long day. Pitt will bully us, like everyone else. On the bright side, if GT beats UGA, then Golden will have 2,TWO, wins against teams finishing 8-4. Both would be GT, no wins against any teams with better records than that. How many years is "the process", Saban's took 2. Beedharphong, those other teams tell a story, one that isn't good for canes fans.

Yep, facts.

If I was the Pitt coach, maybe 10 passes all game. Miami can't stop the run, so why throw.

I believe UM is winning the time of possession in the 1st qtr. Is that the 1st time this yr?

coming in pitt only averages 104 yards on the ground, lets see what happens today against dnofrios D

If there is a poorer coached major college team in the entire country I have not seen it. No one can tackle. No one can block. My mother could cover better on recievers. Golden just looks lost!! Yes they can recruit. But you have to teach the recruits to play!!!
Just saying!!!

M-Y Hurricanes are looking groovy today. hUh

Shout out to Hurricane fan-dom braving the cold elements in downtown Pittsburgh. dUh

Chit, even them tiny toddler's be out there in the Green nd' Orange clothing and what not. Get outta' here with your B.S, bUm.

Hurns has been killing it lately!

Yeah, Hurns one of them Shannon holdover's. Go bloody figures'.

It still ceases to amaze moi, how much HATE canespace/eoth GOONS have for the last Miami, Florida head coach. dUh

Not hate, just disappointment. Duh

Great job by the refs today. What?

Shalalala will suspend the players who sacked the other QB. That's not allowed on this defense

Coley is a beast!!!!

Yeah, Coley will departing for the N.F.L. after his junior season!! Guarantee it!!!

I am liking how the Canes are playing! Good, solid game. No 3 man fronts. Some pressure on Savage, but a few breaks for us with overthrown balls, drops.

Our D is doing OK. Runs off tackle are tough for us to stop. Other times not. Gaines made a legitimate hit on the Pitt receiver and that was a fumble.

Some big plays for us. Coley is a great player and I hope he os OK. Gus Edwards will be really good for the Canes. Plays full on.

GO Canes, bury this guys! Screw the cold weather!

A lot of breaks, but we need to keep scoring or this could(will) get close. Our defense can't stop them, only they can.

Looking good

Pitt needs someone more dedicated to the running game. We can't stop the run, and they aren't very good passing, Golden should be thankful for the Pitt play calling. Hopefully we can get going again on the offense.

With Pitt being so bad on offense, the .500 club might have a career game for d'no

Defense, do the Hurricanes have a defense???????

At lease we have some sort of offense....

It's good to see SM17 when he's healthy!

The canes defense today was the play caller for Pitt.

bowl will most likely be in orlando

Good job Canes! A good season at 9 - 3!!!!

Go Canes!

^ I agree, DBC!
