HURRICANES BASEBALL UPDATE

The University of Miami baseball team checked in at No. 13 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper annual preseason poll released Friday, marking the team’s best preseason ranking from the publication since 2010.

The Hurricanes return a number of key contributors from a team that finished 37-25 overall and earned the program’s college baseball-record 41st consecutive NCAA tournament berth in 2013. The Canes have not missed the postseason since 1972, marking the longest active postseason streak of any Division I program nationwide.

Miami will return its entire starting rotation in 2014, including Louisville Slugger All-American lefthander Bryan Radziewski and USA Baseball Collegiate National Team member Chris Diaz. The duo combined to make 30 starts this past season, and both finished among the top three in the ACC in earned run average.

Both Radziewski (29th round, St. Louis Cardinals) and senior righthander Javi Salas (38th round, Minnesota Twins) decided to return to campus after being selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, while Freshman All-America David Thompson (.286, six home runs, 46 RBI) will help anchor a Miami lineup that returns seven starters from a year ago.

Joining the returning nucleus is a recruiting class ranked among the best nationwide. The group was rated No. 4 by Collegiate Baseball and No. 6 by Baseball America – its highest ranking from the publication since 2006. The Hurricanes have had classes ranked among the top 10 by both publications in back-to-back seasons.

Miami is one of six teams from the ACC ranked in the top 25 of the poll, joining Florida State, NC State, North Carolina, Virginia and Clemson.

Zookster....these guys are idiots. I haven't used my typpad account since the Canes beatdown the gators. The only one to use my screenname is jlo and it appears in black every time.TROLLS...WHEN U ACTUALLY SIGN INTO TYPAD TO POST YOUR NAME APPEARS IN BLUE. ASK JESSE AT THE FELON BLOG AS HE POSTS OFTEN AND HIS NAME COMES UP BLUE. NO WONDER THEY CALL IT A DIPLOMA MILL.SHEESH!

Thanks Chimpgator...the haters, Chumpcane/Harriet, are so brain starved that even when you present them with incontrovertible facts they insist on lying...It's a Gator thing--we Canes wouldn't understand.

Harriet is so use to lying she now claims she's using Type-Pad and her name doesn't appear in blue...simply unbelievable!!

Today didn't prove anything. Saban botched the possible missed kick return coverage and Bama lost to Auburn. Does that make Golden a better coach than him now?

Whats the logic behind what U say? Leach's team lost today, so Golden is now proven to be better than him...huh lol!

I wonder whats the contents of that "hot chocolate", surely something from "Big"Al as U call him or is it leftovers from your days of slurping Shannon, hence the "chocolate" reference.

LMAO! Extra cream in the cup and plenty of sugar in the tank.

I'd say, it's a Ganes thing, it's all he understands, chugging meat from Alverage, but we all know that Ganes thing means he never understands.

It's why he remains THE WORST POSTER IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL RELATED BLOGGING.

Now we have a chimpgator fan oye vie!

Oh ,no zook....i understand the gator ways. I live in gator country and most of them have not finished high school and the ones that did are as ignorant. Had one today tell me the gators are going to demolish whoever they play in a bowl game. I didnt have the heart to tell them the truth. I just said ,u think?

What does that have to do with multi-name's lies? Al Golden fans were given examples of several lies. But your group has not provided evidence to disproof it/

The greatest lie has been that Al Golden has a lesser team. Another is that he develops his talent. The one, I would like to know is, when will he defeat a better coached and more talent team?

We've had this blue name conversation before, there's obviously more than one way to cause your name to appear in blue.

Of course all of the trolls are coming out of the woodwork because stealing IDs and manipulating comments is their expertise.

Okay stupid...then make your name appear in blue!!

Chumpcane, your alter ego, is once again off in the corner slobbering on himself repeating over and over again... "I hate Al Golden and I hope they don't know I'm a toothless gator".

Hilarious post my friend!! Keep them coming!!

Washington's close loss to Stanford makes Steve Sarkisian the only coach in last week's Chasin' Saban Top 10 to drop a game over the weekend, leaving little room for movement among the coaches best positioned to unseat Nick Saban.

This week seems like a good time for a change-up, so let's gauge college football coaches who might have the most NFL viability with the help from several NFL voices.

Five of 32 current NFL head coaches came directly from the college game at their time of hiring. Some teams are unafraid to experiment. Consider two of last year's hires, Philadelphia's Chip Kelly and Buffalo's Doug Marrone, who never won more than eight games in four years as Orange coach, though he does have NFL pedigree as the former Saints offensive coordinator.

After polling five NFL types -- two personnel execs, two national NFL scouts and a long-time former exec recently serving as an AFC general manager -- two college coaching names came up more than once.

Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin and Miami's Al Golden.

Sumlin reportedly garnered heavy NFL interest last year, but Golden could be considered a mild surprise here. He's not often linked to the pros. It is clear that's changing.

Below is how the voting played out. The sources were given the option to pick two coaches if they wished. Obviously this is an inexact process and doesn't tie coaches directly to teams with potential openings, but it speaks to what some NFL teams might be thinking.

Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M

Sumlin's buzz was palpable after an 11-2 debut at Texas A&M and Johnny Manziel's Heisman campaign. In year two, Sumlin deftly handled the Manziel offseason headaches and helped turn him into a better quarterback. "His organizational skills, evaluating, the whole business approach to the game, he's going to be a highly regarded NFL coach," an NFC personnel executive said. "Head coach is also a CEO, and he knows that."

Al Golden, Miami

Speaking of CEO's, Golden has greatly impressed with how he's handled a Miami program encumbered by an NCAA investigation for the ages and desperate for a new identity after the power in the Sunshine State shifted North under the previous coaching regimes.

"A very sharp, experienced and formidable guy. He was an excellent coach at Temple taking a program on the verge of extinction back to respectability and has done an absolutely unbelievable job down in Miami," the NFC personnel exec said. "He has endured (expletive) for three years and somehow saved the Miami program and has them on track to do some very special things. He's got all the tools to be a very successful NFL coach."

It wouldn't be a post by the WORST POSTER IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL RELATED BLOGGING if he didn't dig up a two month old piece by the worst against the spread and worse than a machine straight up predictor of football games on the entire site in Jeremy 'not a tool he won't slog on at some point in any given season' Fowler.

Keep it up WORST POSTER IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL RELATED BLOGGING, you're trying to out due yourself with your idiocy this season.

It's a Ganes thing, he never understands.

Then please hire golden away--anyone Please!

That way the Canes rid themselves of Al Golden fans in Cane drag and this blog of the worst poster and Gator impostor Zook!

Zook will U leave with Massa Golden?

Zook, I will be glad to serve you kool aid at the game. Your support, and yours only, blinded as it is, keeps me going. This game is such a huge challenge. UofL is a very good team, and coached so well. I know my defense can do the job, (some day it has to work),and I believe we can win if I keep the Cardinals at 499 yds or less. Then the 5oo club will no longer exist. Thanks zook, since you are unemployed(again) for all your support. Enjoy the kool aid, it will be spiked I got it from someone they call Jones

Not from champ, or harriet, but another tired reader of mindless blogs. sick Zook is not a canes fan, a turd for sure. Throw some facts to prove Golden CAN coach, not opinions from no-body's. His record speaks for itself, and Temple under Golden never beat anyone that matters. Until he wins a big game, he is just another coach. I know you will call me names now, that's what mindless people with no real answers do. If Golden is the best, prove it with facts, facts are wins not hope of wins.

The idea that a NEW member (Syracuse) can all of a sudden dictate schedule? Screw him, and his school for network broadcasters. Syracuse HAS no football rivalries such as UM has with FSU. That game means a LOT for UM as regards revenue. I wish the ACC hadn't expanded with Pitt and Syracuse in the first place.
Worse still is the arrogance of Notre dame, and the bending over and taking it that the ACC has done. As was said, seems the Stronger ASCC teams must play at South Bend, and YES, where is that RETURN game UM was promised?

This stinks on so many levels.

Posted by: IMAWriter | December 22, 2013 at 02:11 AM

It's cool. I hope all the ACC teams go there and baptize those catholics. Then they'l quit playing the ACC like UF quit playing []_[].

It's a no lose situation really. Go there beat them and get ranks or possibly lose and have no impact on ACC division championship. I hope ND gets what they want and wants what they get.

Did anyone watch USC football coaches take apart and dismantle THE MIAMI HURRICANE DEFENSE used by Fresno State, yesterday?

45 points by USC against Miami's 3 down linemen, can not stop the USC run up the middle, can not stop the USC run on the outside, LBs 5 yards off the LOS, Miami's zone NO pass coverage moron golden and d'o defense.

and Fresno state had no Morris and offense to score 46 points which is what goldie seems to expect to save his worthless ass week after week plus his excuses.

which is what goldie seems to expect to save his worthless ass week after week plus his excuses.

Insightful football knowledge is a requirement for the fans of the Miami Hurricanes. Committing to objectively examining this team, makes all the sense in the world. Anything else is a course in the complete waste of time and effort.

I missed the game '72. But I thought Fresno could score points to keep up. I am totally with you on this 3-4 defense. It stinks all over college football, which is why the offenses are taking over. It seems easier to find recruits to fit a 4-3 than finding the beast to fill the middle in a 3-4. UM was always known for speed and technique, not size to clog up the line. Aggressiveness, especially against teams like GT, or Oregon by getting penetration and disrupting everything. Like OU used to be. I know Golden is here for now, and the next couple years. So I support, not defend him. Have a great day,, GO CANES BEAT LOUSYVILLE

How did Golden turn Temple around. Moving down from D1 with D1 players shouldn't they be contenders or the favorite anyway in the Mac. Did they win the Mac? What teams they played against in the top 25 and won? How tough was their schedule? I'm wondering if this coach was hyped and manufactered or is he the real deal. So far from what I've seen hyped and manufactured.

AG as hype or bust....it's somewhere in the middle.

On the one hand, the criticism that he never beat any much better coaches or talent at Temple is true...Same here at UM. He has yet to win against an elite Coach or program; UF? Tainted win. undeniable.

On the other hand, all the accolades for taking Temple from literally the bottom to respectability, albeit in the MAC, developing players into NFL success, is also true.

That he has stuck through the NCAA mess, having been boonswaggled by the UM admin is a testament, no doubt.

That he has booted questionable, but talented players to the detriment of the team's performance is... a no brainer, given the stakes of keeping the program clean during the investigation's course and after - jeezus, people, let that one go. ANY DECENT COACH IN THAT SITUATION WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME.

That our defense has not progressed with more and more of his personnel as well as RS's leftovers is the crux of the issue to most of us.

Honestly, his in game management skills are pretty good - not horrible, not les miles crazy/genius - certainly an improvement from the timeout monster...ahem.

It's OUR DEFENSE that has kept us from irrefutable sense of progress...The offense has been a mixed bag. Credit him for hiring and losing Fisch. Credit him for rehiring Kehoe. Coley? too soon to tell, but not a huge mistake, obviously.

As it stands, his loyalty to the program is in direct correlation to his loyalty to his DC; it's his nature.

Ergo, we get DNO for at least next year, probably two.

The recruiting? Mixed bag - a great back and forth on here about that, but the CFB consensus is a pretty dang good review. This class is objectively good on paper...paper...We shall see.

This bowl game? Could go either way, which is exciting and dreadful...bad memories of LSU, Wisconsin, and ND....I think we'll show up to play, unlike those games.

Does our cruddy defense show up a la UF? or Duke/ VT/WF/UVA/UNC?

FSU is just that good this year. Sorry.

Without Duke J, does the rest of our offense show? do we quick strike, but fail to convert 3rd downs, streaky style all year long, then leave our cruddy defense out there way too long? probably. Hope not. I forget who brought that point up in this blog awhile ago, but it was great, great point - that our offensive inconsistency and style really exacerbates our defensive weaknesses...I lean on the coaches for that.

Not to beat a dead horse, but:
USC
Auburn
Even Texas
Same players, coaching change, big immediate results.

Too much to hope for here.
So, GO CANES!

Hearing from a reliable source that Stephen Morris' Appendix burst early this morning. He underwent an emergency Appendectomy shortly there after that went well and he is now resting in stable condition at the University of Miami Hospital. Also the University is not expected to address the subject until after the players return from a very short Christmas break on Thursday. Needless to say, Morris is out for the Louisville game but will recovery fully in 4-6 weeks.

OK #11 Ryan Williams, here is your chance. Man-Up.

if true, his appendix burst because he was reading this blog....jk; get well, SMO.

"So I support, not defend him", wise words delandcane.

canesallnight, when has a UM coach ever been loved, ballyhooed, and supported this much without or aside from mentioning on-field success, by the media, fans, and administration? Never, and its not even healthy nor logical to praise someone whose done nothing yet, this hard.

He is the media's darling until its time to pick on our games. And when their opinions regarding his coaching abilities are in question--they have always (on-air) unanimously picked against him. They all picked Florida, Duke and FSU to beat Us this season. ND, KSU, and FSU to beat us last season.

What does that say? Everyone knows Golden has the looks, but not the substance.

Canetrash 72...miami didnt play usc....

AL GOLDEN IS THE BEST COACH AND RECRUITER IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!

Harriet,

Isn't it time you switch over to your Calvin persona and have one of your infamous conversations with yourself saying how smart and deep all of your posts are?

Your post above is so delusional that even when you switch over to your Calvin screen name it will be impossible to defend that monumental stupidity.

Stick with your Muslim escapades with the cab driver!!

Zook some of your posts are very informative and have substance, and are absolutely true, but you really need to let the ALL CAPS ending go. I mean come on dude, I like AG and feel he can get us back to the top, but he is NOT the best coach in all of college football, although he does seem to be a great recruiter. If we get everyone on our current commit list, then I'd say he's in the top 5 for sure, but coaching is another story. We'll see. Anyway your endings to your posts just take away from whatever you're trying to get across.

There is a great deal more that he could include in his post as well. But to each his on. That is what I feel about the flawed post by him.

If golden is the greatest coach in all of cfb how has he not won national coach of the year or acc coach of the year since he's gotten here?

maybe some facts to prove his claims. only rants and name calling, never a fact to prove his claims. which makes one believe that Goldens biggest fan can't defend the coach, only idolize him. that FACT does not bode well for this program.

He reposted what i said, but didn't refute any of it lol!

Just called names and used deflection tactics as usual.

They play with more pride and confidence at mayville state than we do at UM now under moron golide, him and his penn disgrace buddy can't GTH outta here fast enuff!

Before the season started, Rashad told The Grand Forks Herald newspaper that he and the other players from Miami would turn around the Mayville State football program.

A copy of the article found its way to the bulletin board by the weight room. It infuriated sophomore cornerback Dylan Midstokke.

“I don’t like this kid,” Dylan told a teammate.

The Miami guys had the same bravado on the field. They played a fast, physical game peppered with smack talk, even in scrimmages against their own teammates. They acted like conference champs, despite last year’s abysmal record.

Coach Schlieve took note. Theirs was a confidence that bordered on arrogance, and something most coaches from the Midwest wouldn’t tolerate. He would have to teach the players to rein it in.

On the bus ride back to Mayville, Rashad and Jerrill were frustrated by the idle chatter among their teammates. Both sat silently, reflecting on the loss.

They pledged to make next season — their last at Mayville State — end differently.
////////////////////////////////////////

This is what happens when you actually recruit more real Miami guys to the team.

P.S. Don't waste your time with morons who keep trying to accuse others of using fake screens as a diversion from the real football related topics.

Does anyone know what ohiocane is talking about? I personally think williams could be the key to beating Louisville. We wont have the tendency to throw 60 yard passes as often and likley run the ball more. Will keep bridgewater off the field. Hate to see morris go out like that ,but may be a positive...

FWIW.... the MIGHTY Cardinal are a neutral site - 3 1/2 point favorite. dUh

In other words, the Sin City tout's see one of TWO situational, college football outcome's happening. hUh

Either Louisville will COVER the slight point spread COMFORTABLY. Ouch!!

Or, Goldie nd' Marky Mark will benefit from the FOUR WEEK time off and the Canes will finally get a FOURTH-TIER bowl victory since the 2006 season.

Just my opinion my friend...it is all subjective.

I believe that due to the extraordinary circumstances that Coach Golden has faced, which I compare to the SMU story, the job he has done is nothing short of spectacular.

I also believe that very few fully appreciate just how toxic the program was that Al Golden inherited and the almost total lack of talent.

I can't think of another coach who could have come into the historically bad, if not tragic mess that Al Golden did and create the results he has and be in the midst of recruiting a top 3 class. Based on the NCAA alone most kids would have bolted from the program and even 1 star players would be less than excited to join a team that recruiters around the country for almost 3 years were saying may receive the 'Death Penalty'.

I also enjoy reading your posts and respectfully say that on this issue we will simply have to agree to disagree.

Go Canes and Merry Christmas my friend!!

This is what happens when you actually recruit more real Miami guys to the team.

I agree that those young men have the heart of lions. That is what drew me to Miami, over my hometown of Jacksonville, when I heard stories about down South and visited as a child.

The reason I, sometimes, respond to those posters of hatred. There are some fans that want the best for these young men. As shown by many posters today. Those fans do not know that there are posters that are greater fans of Al Golden, and his image, than the great young men that are Miami football.

Calvin what is a as you say 'real Miami guy'? You can't have guys on your team who can't even get into college, let alone a private one like Miami. You have to be able to do more than read n write, and other schools are easier with their entrance requirements. If they really want to commit to Miami then they go to a prep school, if not they go to UF, or FSU. The days of the 80's are gone dude.

Coach Charlie Strong > Goldie and what not.

QB Teddy > QB Morris... OUCH!

These are couple of tangibles/intangibles which will factor into the eventual winner of that FOURTH-TIER bowl game in REDNECK Orlando. hUh

Zook I also believe AG has done a helluva job weathering the storm of the NCAA, but still don't see the best coach in college football deal. Well we're BOTH Cane fans so I guess if you feel that way, I hope he turns out that way.

I like AG and feel he can get us back to the top,

Too bad that cola cane BuBBA DON'T have the CONFIDENCE to bellow, that Goldie will bring the Canes back to TOP as a N.C. contender!!

Speak your peace zook. I agree with U. He walked into a shet storm and turned it into a sunny weekend with muschump and jimbob and the rest telling recruits the storm will only get worse.

Your, Harriet's/Calvina's posts have all been refuted with facts literally hundreds of times, yet you claim they haven't been and post the very same nonsense continually.

Harriet always whines that his posts have not been answered, when they were, and cries about people calling her names immediately after she has put up a post calling people names.

Here's the facts, Al Golden will be bringing championships to the Canes should he decide to stay with the program and your internet posts will not stop him from succeeding.

Second, it's NOT a " fact " that Goldie nd' Marky Mark will turn the Canes around and the Hurricanes become CONTENDERS for a national championship. Let alone win a N.C.!!

I strongly disagree. From my observations of the major difference between South Florida high school football and North Florida high school football. The level of commitment and work by South Florida players over those here in North Florida.

William M. Raines High School, where I graduated from, is the greatest producer of football talent in North Florida. It is a drop in the bucket, as compared to several high schools in Miami.

The talent is markedly better in several Miami schools due to those kids putting forth that extra work and commitment. Miami still can assembly that talent, coach and develop it, add in some select outside talent. Then the formula of past success will again be in place.

which makes one believe that Goldens biggest fan can't defend the coach, only idolize him. that FACT does not bode well for this program.

That's not what I meant Champ, I meant the more 'lax' standards of entrance into the U in the 80's are not around today. For sure we have talent all over S.Fla that we can still get.

FWIW.... the MIGHTY Cardinal are a neutral site - 3 1/2 point spread favorite.

By the way, according to TWO college football internet venues, the VAST MAJORITY of college pigskin good ol' boy's see MIGHTY Louisville as the likely winner. Ouch.

Matter of fact, CBSSportsline college football bowl game voters chose the Cardinal, by the margin of EIGHTY-SIX PERCENT ( 86% ). dUh

Yeah, yeah they CAN'T be all Hurricane haters and what not.
