Golden honored with 2013 Lombardi Award

Hurricanes coach Al Golden was presented with the 2013 Lombardi Award for Excellence in Coaching on Wednesday night at the 44th Rotary Lombardi Award Ceremony. The ceremony was televised live on CBS College Sports.

Legendary BYU coach LaVell Edwards presented Golden with the award.

"What a great honor to receive this award from Coach Edwards,” Golden said in his acceptance speech. “I humbly dedicate this award to the 2013 Miami Hurricanes. They overcame a lot of adversity over the last three years. And in so doing, they taught us a lot about perseverance and leadership itself and maybe perhaps overall about class.”

During his acceptance speech, Golden thanked Miami AD Blake James, President Donna E. Shalala, his wife Kelly and his mom and dad.

The article is a great example of the well known practice of running players off of a team. Nothing new at all. Even Sports' Illustrated wrote a five part series on it.

As for Golden, overall I support him but I don't like the excuses he had made regarding lack of depth and talent. The most troubling thing I have seen is the lack of player development and improvement on the defensive side of the ball. Aside from Gunter and maybe Howard, I can't think of any defensive players that have improved since they have arrived at Miami. On offense, I have seen improvement from numerous players, including Linder and many offensive lineman, Hurns, Waters, Dorsett, Crawford, and Duke.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

Denzel Perryman has improved, but with no defensive tackles, no matter the schemes, he's a sitting duck. Had we been able to recruit some solid defensive tackles and an anchor at nose guard I believe Perryman would have been, one of, if not the best linebacker in UM history.

If you don't have a defensive line--you have nothing!

Tyriq McCord has improved and his impact over the coming years I believe will be significant.

David Gilbert also showed improvement as the season progressed, but not enough to make a significant impact.

It is my belief that once the defensive line is stocked with more talent it will be one of those deals where all boats (defensive players) will rise with an incoming tide.

RS was more successful than AG? Talk about Kool-Aid! Y'all forget how we were once known as "time-out" U?

Chumpcane,

Why don't you get the email address to the author of this article and explain to him how wrong he is...why shouldn't he also have a good laugh at your expense:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1884343-miami-football-how-2010-recruiting-class-set-canes-back-a-year? utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=miami-hurricanes-football

So the large number of defensive tackles Al Golden has personally chosen continue to be failures in his scheme.

That places negatively onto Al Golden more than absolutely anyone else.

My points have that much validity.

You continuously have nothing to dispute it.

You constantly post nothing worthwhile.

Then you resort to name calling.

Chumpcane,

You have been posting lies about Al Golden for 7 straight hours, when does the next hater shift take over for you?

You still are not providing proof of Al Golden's coaching expertise.

What have you provided worthwhile to this blog?

Where is any proof that Al Golden is of the class of top Miami coaches?

All you do is name call, constantly.

Zook - I don't think Perryman has improved much. He was really good his freshman year and I don't think he is much better now. He's just in for more plays. I agree that the lack of the D-line has negatively affected his play.

True, Mike Leach was radioactive and UM would not hire him. However, he is doing a good job with Washington State, and his teams play full out O and D. Auburn beat them 31-24, but WSU threw an interception in the end zone. Guys play hard for Leach and his DC, Mike Breske.

Look, there are some good things happening at UM under Coach Golden. 9 - 3 ain't too bad. #3 recruiting is great. The guy has strong character and a vision for UM. He is a good man...

But the defense is atrocious and the DC is poor. We all fear that Golden will not make a move. I think we are stuck with D'Onofrio. He is not head coaching material, and did not get the Temple job. Not enough juice in his personality.

We are concerned with UM's offensive consistency and poor third down performance. What about our RBs?

And many of us are concerned about player development.
Where's the improvement for the team, especially on D, but the O Line as well?

And we wonder whether Golden gets it regarding speed, quickness and aggressiveness, Miami traditions.

Maybe we will return to prominence with a new style of play. Any Canes fan longs for the days of amazing UM teams that featured agressive play and tremendous self confidence.

Golden's path may simply be a different one. Look at Bama and their style of play and success under Saban. Hard-nosed physical teams.

But one thing is clear. There are awful problems on the defensive side of the ball. If you are a D lineman, come on down because you are gonna get to play.

And of the 6 Gators that are transferring, anyone in that mix that could help us on the O?

Let's beat Louisville, a quality team, and show passion and smart coaching...

American Heritage romps to 5A title with 66-8 victory vs. Clay

More proof of the lack of top talent in Orange Park, that is in Clay County FL. Oakleaf High School and their recruit that Al Golden is getting great reviews for was beat by this team.

" But the defense is atrocious and the DC is poor. We all fear that Golden will not make a move. I think we are stuck with D'Onofrio. " DBC

That old cliche, " Defense wins championships, " isn't trite -- it's a bloody truism.

That's why the Hurricanes will NEVER win a conference championship. Let alone play in a possible national championship while both Goldie nd' Marky Mark remain in Coral Gables.

And I'll let major college football history be my judge!!

LISTEN UP!! WE WANT AND NEED NICK SABAN IN CORAL GABLES!!! I would love to have Nick Saban coaching the CANES! Anyone that can give a school a national title in three years and then go on to win 3 titles in a 4 year span is great!! I dont care what U say about Saban he is great, his record speaks for itself. Golden's only greatness is the ability to make excuses. He has picked a horrible coaching staff and after his time at UM we STILL arent relevant. In the same amount of time Les Miles, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, (i could go on) had won national titles!! SABAN FOR UM!!!!!

The COASTAL division of the A.C.C. was the WEAKEST it's been the past four or five seasons.

Yet, the Hurricanes under both Goldie nd' Marky Mark STILL couldn't get their program to Charlotte this season!

Nonetheless, y'all Golden and D'Onofrio apologists KEEP ON WISHING for a possible A.C.C. championship trophy. hUh

You can also throw in DE Chickillo. The kid has absolutely REGRESSED since his freshmen season!

Matter of fact, the majority JUNIORS/SOPHOMORES which were RECRUITED by both Golden and D'Onofrio, and whom play defense, have REGRESSED in an awful manner. hUh

Chit, even a HONORABLE MENTION transfer DE didn't get the MINUTES he should have on the synthetic-turf. Go figures'.

Oh that's right. This transfer HONORABLE MENTION defensive end probably was prone to too much FREE LANCING and what not. In other words, he was probably too much of a PLAY MAKER and what not.

dbc-

I don't believe anyone has denied how bad the defense has been. It is my belief that the defense will become much stronger, even championship caliber, as Coach Golden's 2014, 3rd rated recruiting class makes their presence known.

Those that are saying the Louisville is a big test or measuring stick for Al Golden as a coach are simply trying to set the stage so they can bellow...I told you so!! We real Canes fans know that the defense is not going to miraculously improve over a one month period without a major infusion of talent. And even against very good defenses Teddy and his supporting cast have been very successful.

Al Golden has done a remarkable job of saving the program and the Miami Administration and Trustees, Lombardi people, Athelon Sports people, Kirk Herbstriet, Mark May (the biggest Cane hater of all), Larry Blustein and many others who understand what Big Al has had to navigate the program through marvel at his success and are stunned that the program even survived.

Thankfully, the constant lies by the haters are not going to stop Al Golden from taking Miami back to championship football, unless he tires of the nonsense and accepts a job with one of the major programs that will surely be calling him. And should Texas, as only one example, come calling for Al and he says he wants to bring Mark D'Onofrio as his Defensive Coordinator the Long Horn hierarchy will do their due diligence and tell Al to bring him along. Should Al decide to leave Miami, the coaching community will see the Miami program as a pariah much like they did after the Coker firing and hiring a flag football coach will be a challenge and then...lookout below!

Finally, it is obvious that we have a Gator nimrod posing as various Canes fans polluting this Canes football blog day and night, along with many other blogs with his nonsense and lies.

Zook - I don't think Perryman has improved much. He was really good his freshman year and I don't think he is much better now. He's just in for more plays. I agree that the lack of the D-line has negatively affected his play.

Your observation is a fair one, although he is bigger and faster thanks to "U Tough", he's more experienced and is simply a football player through and through so I base my comments on the lack of defensive linemen to help him.

Let's have a friendly wager that Denzel starts in the NFL as a rookie and stars fresh out of the "U". Also, should he stay for his senior year and we get some quality defensive line help I predict Denzel will be voted a first team All American and wins the 'Butkus Award'...that can be another wager.

Be well...Go Canes!!

Can't wait for Canes and Cardinals. If this staff can coach, if this staff can game plan. This should be a entertaining game with Miami winning. A loss would be devastating for recruiting , how far along the process has come. Not to mention UCF beat Louisville.Lots of kids love the canes in the Tampa Bay area. To bad the coaching staff don't spend enough time recruiting Tampa Bay.Gators, Seminoles and the Tide don't have that problem..

I always see where it's being said "moron goldie hasn't had a signature win yet" and that's True, but what's more glaring, he's definitely got a signature, duke, come on, duke, losing to duke in a must win game, for 2 years in a row we lose to the real coastal division champs, last year it was unc and this year it was duke, i'm just glad we didn't back in like we did last year and have to hear fraud goldie trying to get the team to celebrate a fake coastal division championship.

Nobody in there heart of hearts actually felt like we deserve to be named coastal division champs.

As long as moron goldie keeps clown 500 here, he will continue to be a moron. Who wants to go into year 4 of the moron regime hoping to play defense when we're losing jimmy gaines with nobody behind him that seems like they can take his place, we losing porter, shayon green and luther robinson, who's going to replace them, while, we'll be younger in the front 7 come next year, so who in here think we'll be a better defense next year than we were this year in year 4, what do we have to do, wait for 7 recruiting classes to cycle thru before we're actually able to play defense, man, get these morons out of here.

morons #1 & #2 are destroying these defensive kids futures with this scheme and with them putting on all this weight, who said you needed to be 240lbs to be able to play linebacker in college. Alot of pro linebackers are not 240lbs, it's sickening is what it is. How much bigger will 3g be next year, you can see when he's sitting doing interviews 3g looks like he can barely breathe.

I got another question, why do we have a d-line coach, if all our d-linemen are going to do is try and bull rush, what's the purpose of having a d-line coach, who cares if we don't jump off sides, it's not the d-line coach is doing it, the scheme is so soft, our d-line guys rarely if at all jump off-sides because they're never in consistent attack mode.

This award the moron received is comical.

Somebody said "let's hope texas doesn't come after coach goldie" this must be comedy night. First off, please let them come after him, that would be a gift to UM. Someone fly that goldie to texas banner, he won't last there over 2 years.

Let the Truth be told, if moron goldie took him and his mac minions and coached in Dade County, they would still a middle of the road and he definitely wouldn't win state. The highschool cafeteria's would be complaining about all of moron goldie's players eating up all the food so they can put on more weight at the highscool level.

In fact, that's what this moron needs to do is become a highschool coach down here so he can learn football, these other coaches would run circles around this moron and his friends.

Shannon's 2010 class also hurt Miami due to it's size versus lack of productivity. The 30-player haul-in threw off the Hurricanes' numbers, leaving Golden only 16 available slots in 2011.

Don't get too enamored with the star search. Guys like ED Reed was 2 star recruit and 9 probowls with numerous NFL records later he's a first ballot HOFer.

Posted by: Next Man []_[]p | December 13, 2013 at 01:26 PM

With respect, the Ed Reed comparison doesn't fly anymore. Back in 1996, gas was $1.40, there was no U-tube, smart phones were a dream, Macarena by Los Del Rio was the #1 song, some guy named Wuerffel led the Gators over FSU for the Championship and some cat named Ed Reed was a 2-star High School Senior out of Louisiana.

Listen, the top 300 players are the top 300 players. Every Program and recruiting site has the list. Sure some are 3's that are 4's and some are 4's that are 3's. The 2-star kids are what they are. And yes, a very very small percentage of 2-star kids pan out (many sites elivate them to barely 3-stars to please teams fanbases so they subscribe to their sites to read the articles), but you sure all hell don't want to use 8-10 schollies a year to find out, thus having 30-40+ of them on your roster over a 5 year period. With todays technology all you need to see is 5-10 mins. of film. And be able evaluate the talent that a kid is playing against and know if a kids is elite or a D-1 career backup or FCS or D-2 player.

All I'm saying is the goal is to get the best players period, STARS be damned. And Golden has and is continuing to offer way to many projects during the Summer and early Fall. Over 4-5 years, it's going to show on the field, and it won't be good enough.

Give me 15-18 ; 4-5 Stars ... 7-8; solid 3- Stars ... and 3-4 projects. not 10-12 a year that no other Top-25 program offers.

That's the difference of 40-50 2 and low 3-Stars projects compared to 12-20 projects over a 5 year recruiting cycle. that's 30 kids over 5 years and much needed quality depth that will never contribute on the field. And that isn't good, it's mediocre and unacceptable. It's a simple formula.

Now if Golden can't get those extra 6-7 ranked kids a year, producing another 30 kids over 5 years that could really be top players, then that's on him and needs to be addressed, because that model is simply unsustainable, to be a Top-10-15 program, year in and year out.

The 13 kids we have are GREAT, another 4-5 solids 3-Stars kids are nice, but those yearly 10-12 Unranked, 2-Star and BARELY 3-star kids offered by not ONE Top-30 program can and will kill a teams overall talent pool. (we can't be taking kids away from Buffalo, Nevada, Western Kent., Cent. Mich and those types of schools.)

It's ALL about Recruiting the Jimmie's n Joe's. And sure, any fanbase will be biased towards their team giving them the benefit of any doubt. But give me an 85 man roster of just Solid 4-Star kids. and I'll steamroll a roster of 2-star kids. That said, why even offer them until the end of Jan. or early Feb. ??? It basically tells me, that Golden is not in the running for these almost everyone of these 80-100 uncommited kids that are still available that can PLAY !

I hope I'm wrong, but it's been the rule lately rather than the acception and it can't continue if were going to line up a 45 man solid 2-deep team against the Top-10-15 programs... But it might get us a Coastal over Duke down the line if that's the goal.

And to you that say DUKE has only 2-3 Stars. Yes they do, but they have 85 players on their roster that are 1100 SAT 3.4 gpa minimum kids and the Coaches are even smarter than them X n O wise... Which is a whole different story.

Coaching huh ? First thing in Football ... You gotta line up right.

Then kick the everlivingSHEET out of your opponent, If you have the players with that mindset and talent to do so.

Golden and staff remain on a recruiting roll with 28 verbal commitments for 2014 and a class that ESPN currently ranks No. 3 in the nation.

Miami is loading up on the defensive side of the ball, especially tackles. Five-star recruit Chad Thomas, 4-star recruit Demetrius Jackson and 4-star recruit Anthony Moten will eventually anchor a line that was pushed all over the field the past few years.

The Hurricanes are also rebuilding the offense line with 4-star talent coming in the form of Reilly Gibbons, Trevor Darling and KC McDermott.

Let's not call anyone names, and just keep everything in the present. NCAA did not impact the ability of this coaching staff to prepare this team. Remember, Golden reported he kept external things outside of his locker room and players were focus on the upcoming season. We had an experience offensive, defensive, and special teams across the board. For the first time in three years, we had depth at each position. The players were bigger, stronger, and comfortable with the new system install three years prior. I never heard anyone say that we were not talented during summer and fall camps. My final analysis is that I overrated the players and this coaching staff, excluding the NCAA stuff.

Please everyone, let's just look at the product on the field. If the defensive players are not that talented then why put them in positions to fail? I have seen DL in coverage, but they are not good enough to rush the QB. Explain that logic of a scheme! LBs are 7-10 yards off the ball, but can not stop plays to the outside. TE and RB are not accounted for on passing downs by the LB and safeties. Our free safety is usually 30 yards off the ball prior to the snap...then still goes back further on the snap of the ball...explain this too.

Again, I agree that we do not have the talent of Alabama, but these coaches are paid to teach too. The defense is still not ready for the next play...which is December 28, 2013. What are they preparing for during the week? It looks like a fire drill. I am not asking this coaching staff to do anything different from any other staff. At least be prepared, and from time-to-time make some adjustments during the game. Let's just fix preparation and put the players in the best position to perform...not in a scheme that do not match their skill level. Why wait until we get these so call 4 or 5 star recruits to play the so-called 3-4 defense? If the offense is struggling on third downs...then stop the home run plays all the time on first down. Have anyone heard of using TEs and RBs on play-actions too?

Coach Golden has been given a pass, because of the NCAA. But, he should not be given a pass as a head coach who fails to hold his position coaches accountable. The only unit that has been successful over the past several years have been the offense and special teams. The defensive coaches should be serious evaluated at the end of the season. This unit has not demonstrated a passion to play fast and wrap-up upon contact. #52, #17, #3, #2, #1, and #26 came to play each game...but the rest still looking over to the side lines for the call. I thought the MLB was putting everyone in postion! I am just talking about this year...as a season ticket holder...who was at the games. The television does not show the fire drills going on from the side lines.

I enjoy your posts Chris H. and totally agree.

Exactly RHC!

All I'm saying is the goal is to get the best players period, STARS be damned. And Golden has and is continuing to offer way to many projects during the Summer and early Fall. Over 4-5 years, it's going to show on the field, and it won't be good enough.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Think about it...if Al Golden could have signed predominately 4 and 5 star players do you really think he would have been signing the 2 and 3 star projects?

In other words--he has had no choice as the state of the program he inherited was a nightmare and then the atom bomb with the NCAA logo that exploded and was radioactive for almost 3 years dictated who the man could and could not sign.

Also, it is well documented that Randy Shannon's 2010 recruiting class was a catastrophe and to this day the program is still suffering from that experience.

What we know is you can't do anything about yesterday, but can make today, tomorrow and beyond better, which is precisely what Al Golden is doing that is proof positive when considering his 2014, 3rd ranked recruiting class.

Go Canes!!

Chris we currently have 13 ESPN 300 players. #1 or #2 for total top kids. We are top 5 on all sites inc #3 on espn and #3 on rivals. get with it

Posted by: Dom | December 13, 2013 at 11:08 AM

If that satifies you then fine. I'll get with it when that's done over 4-5 years with less project kids to fill out the classes and then some Coastal and ACC Championships that follow. The BCS stuff will then work itself out after that. But until we're FIRST, we might as well be last. We were predicted to WIN the Coastal by EVERYONE. It was there for the taking. There are no moral December Bowl Victories without an ACC Championship game appearance.

I've heard it, now show me. But then again, I'm not a rah rah, we'll get them next year type of guy. I'm a bottom line guy and the Canes had it in front of them and didn't get it done.

Also, keep an eye on all those Top teams that are ranked just below us right now with 16-20 commits. They will all add another 6-8 kids of the 80 or so that are left on the board that I wish we had the room for but don't. Then see where we are... Top-10 ? Fine, but still way to many NON-difference makers year after year stocking up the roster that don't belong and will never contribute to the ultimate goal of being #1.

We smoked 3 really bad God awful teams in FAU-Savannah-USF. I'll give good solid wins over Ga. Tech-Virginia-PITT (both 1st. halfs were close). We then won 3 games that went down to the wire by less than a TD that very easily could have gone either way. Hunging on verses the Turds (got to admit 5 turnovers helped and we didn't turn it over and then 6 straight 3 n outs in the 2nd. half), and then eeked out 2 wins over below average UNC and Wake in the 59th minutes each. That's our 9 Wins. Then we really got our Azzzes handed to us by FSU-Va.Tech-Duke. Now out of our 9 wins. Which would be considered "really" good solid wins over good ranked teams? Florida at the time, sure. Ga. Tech or Virginia ? Eeehhhhh naahh.

So much is rarely said in one paragraph. I couldn't agree more Carl. Now the question is, why ? To first fix a problem that is chronic, one must first identify it objectively.

And if there were no problems, we'd be preparing for the ACC Championship Game right now.

Jimmy's n Joe's... T-Breds/Horses ... Donkeys and Nags.

Chris H.'88,

Good comments on the recruiting talent
level issue. Two stars ain't gonna make it.
Have to get 4 and 5 stars and better player
development over time.

But Golden winning the award is a positive.

Also believe he does not understand the
speed issue as a critical one, preferring an
old style PSU scheme on O and D.

That means giving up a ton of yards to quality teams.

We shall see what happens in the Bowl game. And I hope we win it.

Go Canes!

Got to have the players. Bottom line. And it all starts with recruiting. Always has, always will. And your top recruits are only as strong as your lesser recruits that have to back them up on the field when the time calls. We've just had too many weak links in defensive rotations and it shows every week over the long haul. Can we get it fixed ? Sure. But talking about it does nothing. We need better talent in the front 7 and by that, I mean 15 more of them better minimum. That 7-8 a year every year in recruiting Classes. We've missed that boat baaaaadly the last 3 years. We have a few nice DT's in this class. Will they sign ? Where are the DIFFERENCE maker LB's that we used to have 2-3 deep across the board ?

Agree with you on the Penn. St. mentality, but better players should fix that. We're good at the Diva skill positions. Stacked actually, but those big nasty uglies up fron on D. are not there and won't be developed for atleast 2-3 years... JUCO kids ? We might get some of the bottom of the barrel after the Top-programs pick off the very few that are there to begin with.

Let's perform against Louisville first. And trust me, all those Florida kids, led by Charley Strong will NOT go through the motions in preparing for this game and fall flat. They're gonna bring it 90's CANE Style, maybe more so than our 2013 Canes will.

Ron Zook, he did not inherited a bad team even with the NCAA threats. It appears that you must be a Gator fan, because the NCAA does not fear South Florida players...period. It's a U thang...and you will never understand. A bad recruiting year at the U is still better than VT, NC, BC, Duke, WF, GT, Maryland, NCS, and U of L. Let's just keep it real, the coaches and players were what we saw on the field this year...not ready to play D1 football...period.

Please fined someone with the ability to read and comprehend explain my post to you.

Posted by: Ron Zook | December 13, 2013 at 01:32 PM

pretty much sums it all up right there.

The pageantry, appearances, and aesthetics-based award that Golden won last night proves every single post I've made about him, the administration and state of UM football to be true.

This award is a clear sign that there's new expectations at The University of Miami and for its football program. Its essence of sincerity, integrity, and just being smart is dead.

Perception & sensationalism won and is being backed by the administration. The face of the hijacking was awarded for his efforts to get the majority of our fans to be satisfied with trying, instead of doing. Results are dead.

Golden is here for good, D'No is here for good, they are the Miami Hurricanes.

Its not about winning anymore--its about being liked and accepted. "Its a Canes Thang" is dead. Now, "Its a Status Quo Thang!

Every fan knows and agrees that the media and "experts" are in love with our coaches, but hate our team.

How can both be possible?

How is it possible to hate (want the worst from them) a team and its essence of domination, but support a .500 HC who never won anything and only speaks in terms of excuses, to get this hated team together. Are these experts and journalists referring to the coaches ability to reel the program in culturally off the field. Or are the haters (media & national sentiment) referring to the the coach getting the program back to the football domination they hate the program for?

Is the "love", vouching, adulation and acknowledgement based in performance on the field or off the field of play?

Ron Zook, he did not inherited a bad team even with the NCAA threats. It appears that you must be a Gator fan, because the NCAA does not fear South Florida players...period. It's a U thang...and you will never understand. A bad recruiting year at the U is still better than VT, NC, BC, Duke, WF, GT, Maryland, NCS, and U of L. Let's just keep it real, the coaches and players were what we saw on the field this year...not ready to play D1 football...period.

^^^^^^^

Of course he inherited a team bereft of talent...that is established and not open to argument. Unless you believe they fired Randy Shannon for recruiting a great team...lol!

And during normal times a bad recruiting year at the "U" is typically better than most of the teams you mentioned, but not after the program was run into the ground by the former staff and then nuked by the worst NCAA attack since the SMU death penalty case.

You claim to be a Canes fan and accuse me of being a Gator, yet, you say that our coaches and players are not ready for D1 football...I say they are ready that has been proven by a 9 & 3 record, a bowl invitation that offers the opportunity to post a 10 win season. That said, are you sure you're not a Gator?

Al Golden is the best coach in all of college football and has put together the #3 rated recruiting class for 2014...It's a Canes thing baby--you clearly do not understand!!

Had we been able to recruit some solid defensive tackles and an anchor at nose guard I believe Perryman would have been, one of, if not the best linebacker in UM history.

If you don't have a defensive line--you have nothing!

And wasn't THE GREATEST COACH IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL in charge of recruiting in 2011-2012-2013 ?

And yet not a single ONE ALL-ACC D-Line player past-present-future is on the present roster ?

It is my belief that once the defensive line is stocked with more talent it will be one of those deals where all boats (defensive players) will rise with an incoming tide.

So, is that how it works ? Ye ol delusional one, Goldy's entire front D-7 depth chart roster looks like a gaggle of Ransom Everglades sailing class Dinghys on South Biscayne Bay going around in circles and running into one another like those 1970's little Electronic Football Game Players hooked arm n arm dancin the doe-se-doe.

But do tell us all about those DT's that aren't sign yet for 2014 before at least 2 of the 4 bolt to Top- Programs... Oh and ALL those Stud Linebacker difference makers to that will come in next year and dominate.

Al Golden receiving the prestigious 'Lombardi Excellence in Coaching Award' further establishes that he is the best coach in all of college football and has the program on a solid foundation for the first time in 10 year traveling at the speed of light on 20G upward trajectory.

It also proves that the rest of the nation now sees that the Canes are being led by a man of integrity, experience, talent and winning mindset.

Next year's top 3 recruiting class will help fill in the huge talent gap that has stopped Al Golden and his staff from producing a top 5 team. And the following recruiting class will put the Canes back in the National Championship hunt.

Al Golden with the fantastic support of Donna Shalala will without question become known as the greatest football coach to ever lead the Canes.

AL GOLDEN IS THE BEST COACH AND RECRUITER IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!

CONGRATULATIONS COACH FOR THE WELL DESERVED AND PRESTIGIOUS LOMBARDI AWARD!!

I say they are ready that has been proven by a 9 & 3 record, a bowl invitation that offers the opportunity to post a 10 win season.

Of those 9 wins, you lead the cheers for, what was the win over a more talented and well coached team?

Why are there again multiply losses to lesser teams?

Why is Al Golden three years into his position, without the recruits to make his team into a contender?

There are not more wins with the better recruits. So that should lead to Al Golden's termination. But the administration, media and fans like you are happy with inferiority at Miami.

HarrietTubmanCane has a very valid point about Al Golden's continued tenure.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Here's the deal...you don't even have the courage to use just one screen name...lol@u!! Seriously, when your self-confidence and lack of courage is at that gutter level you must piss your pants when your mom farts in bed with you at night.

The most frightening thing is you coming out of the closet and daylighting that you stalk those kids at Ransom Everglades......not too smart Einstein!!

The best coach and recruiter in all of college football has struck again..The University of Miami flipped Park Vista safety Marques Gayot from his Louisville commitment on Friday night.

Another great job coach!!

Zook is right when he says, "Al Golden isn't going anywhere until he damn well pleases".

There is no award or prestige behind it WORST POSTER IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL RELATED BLOGGING.

It's a joke. Nothing but a shot at the NCAA by a rotary club based in Houston. There have been no other winners of this award, it's a dog and pony show given to Alverage despite his getting blown out by 27 to FSU, 18 to Virginia Tech and 18 to Duke in football to try and show the NCAA up. You lied about Sumlin winning this award last year when it's never existed before, it's not even voted on by anybody, it's nothing but an arbitrary selection for ulterior motives that UM has to harp on because they can't brag about their football season in any way that Hurricane fans will half raise an eyebrow at.

But since you're a Ganes fan, this is reason for you to open up and gargle THE WORST FOOTBALL COACH IN MODERN UM HISTORY again today.

It's a Ganes thing, you never understand.

Harriet TUBMAN, an ivestigation maybe opened up, as to who's responsible for this moron receiving an "excellence in coaching" award after coming in 3rd in the coastal and 4th overall in the acc, our 2 primary suspects right now are cutliffe & beamer!

Aoilogies to everyone, on "primary suspects" but our "person of interest" as to where this award came from are cutliffe & beamer!

Ron Zook and Chris '88,

Appreciate the responses and strong arguments.

Same for HTC, RHC, D and the many other posters here. Some smart football minds...

All true Canes fans want to win and be in the
big leagues once again.

It may be that Golden has a different method that, with the right talent, will put us there. We need some serious D linemen, and a few LBs wouldn't
hurt either. I hope Perryman stays. I like our DBs.

Who wil be our QB next year? Who knows?

But, in the interim....

Louisville will be out to put a hurt (no pun intended) on us. I hope we level 'em, play smart and fierce!

Go Canes!

I think I have to agree with HTC on something, why is Golden getting recognized?

The media doesn't like Miami, never have, never will. We didn't even win the coastal. Is it because of the ncaa stuff? NCAA is off of the field. I like Golden, but I was surprised by the headline.

I hope we find some mean streak in this class.I think this team is too nice. We have a lot of nice kids and who play hard, but they don't have that thing that makes Miami special. The attitude that has powered us in the past isn't there right now. We found a little of it against UF but few examples after that.

There's a few guys who play like they've got something to prove....Duke, Dorsett, Coley, Gunter, McCord, Denzel, Flowers, and Crwford.

Louisville thrives in areas of Miami Hurricanes’ weakness

The headline is appropriate for Al Golden's lesser coaching skills. And his ability to develop the recruits he gets to enroll at the University of Miami.

As usual we get a coach to turn the team around, then loose him..

The best thing that can happen to UM is somebody picks him up, Canesjunkie, this team plays soft because it has taken on the personality of the 2 queers from penn disgrace.
