What makes Al Golden the best coach in all of college football? Many things! He held the program together when it should have gone the root of SMU after their NCAA beat-down. He has instilled pride back into the program and invited former Canes greats to once again be positive influences on the current players after being run off by Randy Shannon. He has instituted the U-Tough program that has already produced extraordinary results and will be even more productive as the highly talented type of players Miami has been use too signing join the program. He is better organized that any coach to have ever walked the "U's" sidelines. His understanding of the game and experience is massive and includes first-hand knowledge of both the college and Pro game. He is brilliant in the X's and O's of the game and produces Bill Belichick types of game plans. His recruiting prowess is feared by all of the major schools knowing he will soon own the hotbed of recruiting, South Florida and that means championships. He is very smart inside and outside of football that allows him to garner badly needed PR for the Canes that helps in recruiting and Polls that will help secure votes from those who have been Canes haters in the past. He has already proven to be a great game day coach as most every close game the Canes have been involved in they've won. He has improved every player that he has coached going back to his days at Boston College, Virginia, Penn State, etc. and his positive impact on current Canes players on many levels, which is evident to anyone that is being honest. His goal setting is clear, concise and understandable by his players. He instituted summer camps that are huge recruiting tools. He has gone to the student body to enlist their loyalty knowing that is an area that will promote more attendance and also create a buzz on the campus that serves to inspire the players, he's a leader of men and today's Miami players love the man and would follow him into war and fight hand to hand combat against others with high powered weapons...AND HE'S A WINNER!!

The above is just a small sampling of what Al Golden offers as...THE BEST COACH IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL!

I'm glad Manny brought this to our attention. I'm surprised I was the first person(with sanity)to post a comment here.

From Canes Insider D Money.

Fundamental issues
I’m not ready to lump Coach Golden with Shannon and Coker, at least not yet. He works too hard and is too smart.

But the reality is that the results have been the same. We are an annual embarrassment. There remain fundamental problems that Golden needs to overcome if he is going to succeed. Sorry about the length. But there are a lot of issues.

In my opinion, there is one issue that trumps them all: Coach Golden has not adapted his Northeastern mentality to a South Florida program. He is a New Jersey guy who coached at Penn State, Boston College, Virginia and Temple. His professional idols are Bill Parcells, Al Groh and Tom Coughlin. He is as pure of a Northeast guy as it gets.

This manifests itself in three ways. First, it affects the scheme he runs. This has been covered ad nasueum by others with much more technical knowledge. But, at bottom, this scheme is about strength and discipline and our talent pool is about athleticism and playmaking. It doesn’t fit, and the results have been historically bad.

Second, his background affects his talent evaluation. I don’t believe that Golden fully understands South Florida talent. If you want to learn about Golden’s evaluation principles, look at the guys he offers from his camp. These are less-heralded guys that he sees up close. What have the camps given us? Dwayne Hoillett, Larry Hope, Vernon Davis, Jake O’Donnell and Hunter Knighton. Not one contributor in the group.

Third, the Northeastern mentality affects the way he deals with the athletes. He works these kids hard, which is a good thing. JJ and Schnellenberger worked their kids hard. The UTough program is an unquestioned improvement. But the volume of team-building, community service and Deserve Victory activities is starting to wear on guys. From everything I’ve heard, this was a tired and unhappy team at the end of the year. South Florida kids are a unique breed. They don’t lack for work ethic or toughness, which is why they succeed in the NFL. But you can’t treat them the same way you treat Penn State players.

Coach Coley understands South Florida talent, but that’s not enough. Those guys still need to be coached. Stephen Morris played much better under Jedd Fisch. That’s obvious. And although I appreciate Coley’s commitment to a power run game, the execution has been poor. Eduardo Clements is the team’s best short-yardage runner, but we kept giving those carries to Gus Edwards. Even my wife began to key on the personnel groupings—Malcolm Lewis may as well have run on the field with a leather helmet. I like Coach Coley and think he has a bright future, but he still has a lot to prove.

As for Coach D’Onofrio, this board has covered it pretty well. One thing sticks out, though, and it relates to my first point about Coach Golden. South Florida is a linebacker paradise. You could sustain two NFL teams with local linebackers. But in year three, Coach D is still relying on Jimmy Gaines and Tyrone Cornelius. We cooled on James Burgess. Now he’s putting our running backs in body bags. Skai Moore was an obvious stud to everyone except the people that matter. These are just two examples. Like Parcells said, you are what your record says you are. Three years in, Coach D’s record speaks for itself.

The optimist in me says Golden is smart enough to adapt. The pessimist in me says “you are what you are,” especially when you write a 300-page book about your core values. The decisions he makes in the next few months will speak volumes.

Zook, you're like Drew Barrymore in 50 First Dates with the games.

You know we got blown out, right?

New canes tradition...national tv against a basketball school, we will get blown out.

Don't worry, when people really stop going to the games, these morons will have a hard time overcoming that.

What have the camps given us? Dwayne Hoillett, Larry Hope, Vernon Davis, Jake O’Donnell and Hunter Knighton. Not one contributor in the group.

-------------------------------------------------------
That's that "eye discipline" he's trying to teach our team. No one is buying that crap.

300 page binder to a .500 record.

It's not a northeast thing, D, it's being hard-headed and stubborn.

Parcells and Coughlin are as good as coaching gets at any level. They both ran aggressive defensive schemes and pounded the ball on offense. I'm a Giants fan, I can tell you Coughlin has completely changed his offensive philosophy in the past 4 years to more pass orientated plans that focus on driving the ball down the field. Why? He has a QB with a big arm, WR's, and an offensive line that gets limited push. He adapted his thinking to fit the personnel of the Giants.

Golden doesn't adapt because he's hard headed. He doesn't change what he's doing, regardless of his personnel and recruiting base. Golden is choosing to do this his way.

After 3 years, I'm ready to admit it's not working. He's organized, comes across well, and he can recruit. X's and O's he's terrible. The culture he has created here doesn't work with the type of people he's recruiting.

The program is on the downfall, big time. The D is suffering to say the least. The coaching staff is ho-hum. Keep Kehoe. Keep Barrow.

Zook, are doing this from a padded cell. Pride, the U gets flashed by opponents, and then the throat slash, Utough, both lines of scrimmage pushed around by every team they play, including FAU. X's and O's, can't play that off either. Nothing but lies. Enjoy the cell dude

Butch Davis, Greg Schiano, and Rob Chudzinksi are available. Hurry up and grab them! It is time to move on from Al Golden and secure either one of them as Head Coach, or preferably all three of them, and let Butch pass on the baton to one of them in a few years. Those three were part of the coaching nucleus that put together what has been deemed as the "greatest college team of all time" in 2001. The school would be insane to not go after them, while they're still available. Golden is in over his head. Its tiring to continue to hear him infer that we do not have the "players" and have "been playing with one armed tied behind our back" due to the NCAA restrictions. Those are excuses. He makes $2.5 million per year. Let him take the $7.5 million he has made in three years with the school, and move on. Lets give that same salary to Butch, Schiano, or Chudz. Better yet, if the school administration was smart, they'd find a way to bring all three back, similar to the late 90's and early 2000's. All three are proven commodities at the college level. Butch never used the NCAA issue as an excuse. Instead, he recruited two and three star kids, who had speed, and who had a a chip on their shoulder. Most importantly, he and his staff COACHED THE KIDS UP. Would any great coach, such as Saban, Jimmy Johnson, Urban Meyer, or anyone put up with the defense giving up the amount of yardage and points they have the past two years? Of course not. Time to move on. I don't see why we have to go through another year of this coaching staff to make a decision by consensus when three of the great coaches that built this program to be GREAT are available in the wing waiting. TIME TO MOVE ON.

Manny:
Thanks for the U-tube update.

Enjoyed that tremendously!!!. What b-ball position short stop or outfield?....

Fans appreciate information, and there is so much out there it is very difficult to cull the interesting and true from the gossip and pretenders.

I subscribe to a number of sites and even there, much is questionable to get fact to mull over football at the 'U'.

The question that I have is based on the events from last year in the dead recruiting period prior to the first Spring practice. There was NO information on recruits their progress or even news that was provided to fans. There must have been 3 months of very little if any news on our Canes. Can we get info. on our Canes on a regular basis?

Let's keep tuned in on our team. They need our support and should know we are there for them.
Thanks again good job, and great interview.
Go 'Canes

I want to be equal on my evaluation of this years performance. I observed missed assignments, missed tacles, and dropped passes. I seened teams blow them out and Miami win close games. I saw some nice plays but also some heading scratching play calls. I can't go through all the games but its no way this coaching staff can watch film and not be worried. Al Golden & co. has to go to theses coaching camps and learn some things about game preparation. Humble themselves and ask for help. I believe that recruiting is key but louisville, Duke, va. Tech,,, etc... has less talent and look like they can play for a national championship. No excitement in the games and energy is down. 2014, new season and keeping an open mind.....

The Manny interview highlights that Al Golden identified and targeted Brad Kaaya when no one in the country even knew the kids name and that includes Stanford, USC and UCLA, which are in Brad's backyard.

Now, they are all after Brad and many believe he's an NFL caliber player.

Just another reason that Al Golden is the best coach in all of college football.

Mr. Golden has to go, I love those guys. They were so important to what could have been a 3-peat if not for the BCS and a bad call. Unfortunately, Golden has too many years left to buy him out. All we can do is hope he gets the call he wants and he leaves. This administration doesn't care about winning, only image. It's obvious the players are not happy, as well as a huge majority of real fans. All we can do is hang in there, and hope for something to change for 2014. If no changes are made, it will be a season to forget

Maybe we can get a campaign to get Al Golden hired away from here.

Al Golden is signed through Feb. 1, 2020 and is making $2.148 million this season.

Let's get this parasite on the tit of some other team.

Very few people believe that Golden should go. It's the D coaches who have go, ASAP.

ny cane fan, It seems Golden won't separate from his buddy, D'no, which really leaves only one choice. The problem many, more than you might be aware of, are doubting that Golden can develop players. Very little results in 3 years from any of "his" recruits. It doesn't take 4-5 years for a difference to show. Are you in NY or from there?

Maybe we can use that technology to stop you from posting your non-stop nonsense!

Sorry, I agree with the champ the non-sense comes from you and your other 3-5 names

Manny's interview highlights why Al Golden is the best coach in all of college football.

Brad Kaaya was an unknown kid when Big Al first discovered him and started recruiting the kid.

Even the schools in Brad's backyard, such as...Stanford...USC...UCLA had no idea about this kid and now all of them are chasing him with many projecting Brad to be a big time NFL prospect.

Zook is in the house.

Zook, please shut up.

we get your mancrush on Golden. The vast majority of Cane fans do not share your bias opinion. Golden is a good guy, average Coach producing below Miami standard average results and MULTIPLE blowout losses over 3 years now. More will follow too.

Accountability. I and the majority of other Cane fans will no longer support Golden fully if he's still unable to identify Miami's greatest weakness and fix it. And all he needs to do is start with his College roommate, bestman at his wedding, #2 on his phone speed dial and BFF.

Hallo, that has got to be the biggest piece of dumbassery written here. Go back to doing what you do best, licking windows!

losing olsen is no big deal since he sucks.....

but what you see is constant turmoil....rashawn scott again having problems with golden....the nov 4th article about players hating the staff....

golden will be here 2014....but the results will be disastrous...6-6 at best....he is too young and not enough experience....plus he is not a winner, just look at his stats.....

the data never lies.....49/49 says it all....#116 in defense and this year #90....it all falls on him

NO!!

THE HATERS LIKE OHIO CANE, CHAMPCANE AND CFL ARE THE ONES WHO RAN BUTCH DAVIS OFF THE PROGRAM AND COST MIAMI AT LEAST 2 MORE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!!

AND NOW THOSE CLOWNS ARE SAYING BUTCH DAVIS SHOULD REPLACE AL GOLDEN.

LITTLE GIRLS IT'S TIME YOU TOOK YOUR CLOWN NOSES AND SHOES OFF AND ALLOW US MEN TO TALK UM FOOTBALL.

AL GOLDEN IS THE BEST COACH AND RECRUITER IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!

The campaign to get Al Golden a new job is working on Crook.

All caps post now. Very out of control, very out of control.

schiano is not a head coach......UM should ONLY consider proven winners....

but UM will keep golden here another year......but golden I suspect has no idea what to do....the problem is any top DC will not make a lateral move...he will want to be the HC.....that's why the really only solution is to fire golden....

that's the only way UM can advance....plus Golden has no idea when he will bring be in a national championship game....his own words....goals are worthless without a time table....

im dying here......the entertainment is great...maybe zook will swallow his tongue, lol

Hey Gallo...I've got something for you that you are use to swallowing right here!!

There is another LIE from the Zook, cfl loved Butch from day one. To come in and clean up the program, and build probably the best ever team, classy, yet confident and just enough cockiness(swagger). Even in the losing season, Butch was the coach, and I(and many others) supported him always. In fact, my personal opinion is he was Miami's best coach ever. JJ, HS, both incredible coaches, JJ taught Butch, but Because Butch built it himself, I vote him. So stop making garbage up, you cannot defend Golden without lies. Which proves he can't coach, his biggest fan has to lie to defend him. C'mon, next lie

I did support Butch Davis, as well. Prior to me coming to this blog. But I point out Crook's insanity very rarely.

That man has serious mental issues. I'm a very firm believer that you don't argue, debate, converse, etc., with the crazy one named Crook.

Zook its obvious you want golden here to destroy the beloved U. Your name says it all. We probably won't get butch and schiano will go to be the head somewhere else. IMO only Chud is realistic. The dc and scheme definitely must go.

Gallo, the president of the haters club claims the following schools and Ice Harris no longer send players to the "U". It is Gallo who best demonstrates just how much the haters lie and how clueless they truly are:

Northwestern - feeder school (Ryan Mayes, Michael Smith)

Tim "Ice" Harris - feeder coach and Booker T Washington- feeder school (Demetrius Jackson, Nigel Bethel II, Chad Thomas)

Carol City - feeder school (Trayone Gray)

Miami Central - feeder school (Joseph Yearby, Trevor Darling)

Norland - feeder school (currently on the roster--Ereck Flowers, Duke Johnson)

Keep up the great work Gallo!!

Zook the gator is losing it. Maybe he lost it on the 40 yd line of the "bowl". Too late now

You're lying as you wanted Butch fired!!

I just want to go on record that I still send players to the U. PS...men over twenty with nicknames are "cool".

You boasted that you were one of the dimwits who donated money to the fund that hired the plane to fly over the Orange Bowl (you know--the stadium I played in) with the FIRE BUTCH DAVIS banner.

Just like you want to use technology being used in the Manny interview to try and get Al Golden fired.

And when Al soon puts a championship Canes team on the field you, CFL, Gallo, Champcane, Tallycane and your numerous other aliases will all be claiming you stood with Al through thick and thin...just like you stood with Butch--LOL!!!

Ohiocane...arent U the one who had a good source that morris had an emergency appendectomy

I've been trying to y'all this from the get go. Who else would want the Hurricanes to remain mediocre but a gator clown.

This is the same clown that said he played for the Canes but believe the program would be dead if Alverage Golden tongue would leave us? What former Hurricane player would ever make a dumb statement like that when we have won 5 titles with 4 different coaches. Only a gator.

Here's a thought...try to screw up the courage to use just one screen name, instead of using all the aliases to comment on and support all of your previous posts.

Don't be afraid little girl!!

I wont stick by this staff ever.....the team is lost. There are big problems in the relationship with the players....I think a lot hate al golden. He is a great salesman but when you get here, its not what its cracked up to be.

what happened with rashawn scott?....always nothing is ever explained then all of a sudden the guy is gone. All you have to do is go to the casualty list...ray-ray, paul, johnson etc and the list goes on...

all the duke johnson twitters....ereck flowers hating UM....tracy howard flipping dnofrio off all the time....

the team quit on al golden the other night....that cant even be disputed....

like the November post said....

Gallo, the President of the Haters Club has once again posted a blatant lie...this why the Haters will never be taken seriously...clueless liars!!

I don't think any of this is a lie.....it all makes sense now....

More on Duke | Nov 4th

His surgery was today, I'll get a read out from sources later but here's a big chunk on Duke. But I had a long talk with someone close to him today and wanted to let you guys go behind the veil.
He actually wanted to leave Miami at several points and times last year. He's been very frustrated with the coaches during his tenure here and he's had people in his ear trying to keep him level headed and focused on the bigger prize. He's often had to take up for himself and less talented teammates. A text came in recently from Duke saying "I hate these F*(^*ing coaches" to a mentor. There's a lot going on behind the scenes.

To give you an example of the kind of thing he's gone through (all facts, no embellishing) here's a story:
Duke was injured because of blocking on a reverse earlier this year and Golden called him out in front of the whole team saying 'who told you to block like that?' Duke just looked at AG and was thinking to himself that that's the way the coaches at Miami instructed him to block. Golden then went on to say that Duke was always getting hurt and couldn't stay on the field. Right after that, Duke fired off the text above.

Duke's handlers had to continue to monitor his emotions all last season as he phoned numerous times about being very unhappy. The sense I'm continually getting is that Miami coaches have trouble connecting with certain players and treating them a bit harsh. Some may say it's football, but when your star player is saying he wants to transfer to West Virginia, that should be cause for concern. The south Florida athlete is a different kind of guy and I've seen that with my involvement and covering youth football.

Duke stayed on and just fought through stuff. He's being reminded about the bigger picture and he's definitely gone after next season, don't even think about him staying, it's confirmed. He's already tracking his draft status. He's telling people close to him that he's projected late first early second in the 2015 draft right now (pre-injury). He's determined to come back bigger, faster and stronger.

Ereck Flowers is also gone after this year. He really hates Miami. He doesn't want to even do media. He's on the first train smoking after his junior year.

I'll have more later but it's disheartening to hear some of this stuff, but I knew this was going on. Tracy Howard got into a major spat with Coach D'Onofrio last year and it kinda got viral. I learned about it and posted it hear. I now that Tracy does things like wave his hand at D'Onofrio when the coach tells him things. That's why after the two pick game Tracy had, D'Onofrio went out of his way to rip Tracy for other errors in the game, tackling. I knew there were back stories and didn't write about it. It's public knowledge they don't get along behind close doors but none of them will talk about it. It's a 'locker room' thing.

But expect Tracy to bolt also. If Miami doesn't win a championship, either ACC or BCS (or whatever the new title will be called) it will possibly be tough for a few years until the coffers are filled again because last years freshman class (2013) is disgruntled. It starts with the leaders, so it's likely a wide spread concern.

If you're calling out Duke Johnson, imagine what a fourth year walk on is treated like.

well then tell me why rashawn scott didn't go to the bowl game......

what happened?
