What smart and capable person would voluntarily keep unintelligent and inept people around them? How could Golden be any different from his assistants if he continues to keep them around him in a professional setting with expectations this high?

look at Storm Johnson go on the Fox Sports cover page, lol

"Johnson's father, Wes, said his son had spoken to Golden "multiple times" about leaving since he took over as coach".

"Johnson, who finished this spring as the team's No. 3 running back, was one of six players reportedly suspended for the season opener against Maryland – a report coach Al Golden would neither confirm nor deny during spring practice".

as always.....players gone in secrecy....

No one wants to even mention that maybe, just maybe.... the problem could be Golden.

even as early as 2011.....sooner or later your stats / history catches up with you....

plan on immense golden bashing in 2014 until he and dnofrio are GONE......

" I have had so much trouble getting athletes to come to UM-Miami-South Beach-Coconut Grove with all of UM's history and glory not to mention a 778 million endowment because of those pesky "threat of sanctions"

I am losing recruits to UCF (123 million endowment)....I can't compete with playing and going to school in Orlando...lol

"I remember my freshman year, we were up on Arkansas 51-0 in the fourth quarter," Searcy recalled.

"Now, Jimmy wanted to destroy these guys. Arkansas was a school that had passed him up for a coaching job. He came over to us on the sidelines and said 'If you mother [expletives] let these guys score, I don't care what the final score is, I'm going to run your mother [expletives] [expletives] for three days.' We were scared. Second team was in there. Arkansas ends up scoring on like the last play of the game. The next three days, all we did was run.' We knew the next time he said 'Don't let this happen, we weren't going to let it happen."

those are the type of coaches I remember at UM....golden is pathetic....I could care less whether his wife loves it here or his loyalties to his best man at his wedding.....fire them all today!

Just to be fair..
From ESPN-
Jimmy Johnson knows enough about the University of Miami to know that he likes second-year coach Al Golden. “I told Al he’s doing it the right way,” Johnson said Tuesday at his College Football Hall of Fame press conference in New York. “He’s an outstanding recruiter. He’s very disciplined. I think he’s the perfect guy to get Miami back on track.”

After watching coach Al Golden during a recent visit to campus, Jimmy Johnson told Miami president Donna Shalala "she did good" by hiring him. "Really impressed with his attention to detail," J.J. said, expressing a widely held view.

Lets be honest, the real question is, which coach has better hair? JJ's silver bullet hands down..

Come on Gallo whichever one you are, Storm left us because he was behind Lamar Miller and Mike James, and wasn't getting much playing time, and wanted to be closer to Mama, other guys don't come here because they can't meet entrance requirements, UCF is much easier. Hats off to the Knights, they had a great season. Now having said that, not sure they'd be as good in the ACC. With Teddy gone, I have a feeling UL won't be that good either in the ACC.

Teddy declared. Congrats Cane CL[]_[]cks.
[]_[] just dodged an 0-1 bullet.

nah, storm Johnson left just like all the juniors who rolled out on all these penn disgrace morons, they saw right thru these mac morons. It's easy to be a grown man and start selling your vision to new recruits who already loved a school before they ever even heard about you, but now guys are looking at the product on the field.

For those who like to play the investigation game, than why are guys that were highly recruited not playing at a high level.

What was JJ supposed to say? He was being honored during his press conference in New York. Was he supposed to say that Golden sucks and is a bad hire before he had any proof to support it? Three year later lets send reporters to his home during his morning coffee and lets ask him about Golden post results.

Golden is supposedly disciplined, is a good recruiter, and has attention to detail--just not those associated with on-field performance. JJ spoke on Golden's aesthetically, not substance-wise. Nothing wrong with his comments because thats all he knew and was the prominent sentiment at the time. Sometimes quotes need context.

Nah Calvin that's not what happened, he didn't want to compete against Miller and James and also got his clocked cleaned at practice by Sean Spence and threw his helmet and walked off the field. His father came back and said he wanted to be closer to his Mom and that the backfield was too crowded, and that was that. Most of the guys, not all, but most of the guys who left or were dismissed aren't doing jack right now. I'm not taking up for AG, because he needs to seriously address the D issues, but that is not what happened to Storm, so let that go.

Storm had a 13 YPC average on his 10 or so attempts. I was clamoring the coaches to play him more. He, IMO was better than Lamar and Berry, and was #3 RB out of high school. I pity the fool

Let the playmakers play.

Gallo, is Reggie Northrup on your list of casualties? F' it, all our linebackers should be on that list

James not Berry my B

If Winston played his freshman year instead of Manuel FSU would have been playing for a NC last year too. He is that good. In college, one QB does make a difference. Look at Cam, Jordan Lynch, Johnny Football etc...

If The Golden One gets The Golden Egg, anything is possible...

until then we wait, just don't hold your breath

Ok i'll say this to you, this man wasn't with all of that U-tough crap, so they tried to punish em for not going all in on that U-tough crap, like they said they based their depth chart off of that, storm could careless about it and when he got on the field he showed them it didn't matter about U-tough, these mac morons like now keep trying to prove a point that can't be proven, this is not a weight lifting contest, it's like saying if duke Johnson doesn't participate fully now in U-tough, are they seriously going to start dallas Crawford over him.

duke sent the signal out before the Fsu game when he said "we're just tyring to play/learn football the way our coaches are trying to teach it". Meaning they're fed up with doing everything asked of hem and it's not working or helping them to achieve their goals and become champions.

I like how people keep trying to reference jimmy Johnson to say he's co-signing for this moron to be here, that was before the real consistent results, who on here actually thinks that jimmy would have kept clown 500 on this staff this long, or who on here think jimmy Johnson if he was the A.D. here would be putting up with these mac morons and they're excuses and jimmy knows full well better than anybody that the problem is not the players at Miami and has never been.

soldinger and company knows and are ready to come to the rescue of these players because they know the quality of athlete is being mis-used.

Now these bozo's are talking about jamal carter challenging for a starting spot come next year, lol, as if that's going to change the defense, these idiots can't get out of here fast enuff!

Happy New Year to everyone. I sincerely hope everyone on this board has a healthy and prosperous New Year (and that our Canes enjoy the same).

On to football - I would be surprised if James Franklin leaves Vandy for Penn State because, right now, Vandy is a better program and Franklin is likely to land an NFL offer from one of the many vacant NFL head coaching positions. If the latest report is true, that leaves Al Golden at the top of Penn State's wish list. If I had to predict, I would say he will leave because Penn State will pay him more and he will have long term stability at the program. He will have at least 5 years of excuses with the sanctions currently in place at Penn State. After that, Penn State will tolerate 8-9 win seasons for a number of years. It will be easier for him to compete in the Big 10 and his style of coaching obviously fits Penn State better than it does Miami. He could be there 20 years without winning a national title as long as his team occasionally wins the Big 10 and nobody will care. At Miami, if he does not win an ACC title in two seasons he will be fired.

If Golden leaves, we all need to put pressure on Blake James and the administration to either bring Butch Davis back or to hire Schiano or Chud. This is truly a "golden" opportunity for Miami to get back to its roots and bring Miami football back. The obvious downside is that the impressive recruiting class currently in place may take a hit. However, if Miami acts quickly and brings in either Butch, Schiano, or Chud, the class will be saved and there may be a few players on the fence that decide to come to Miami. However, it will be worth losing a few recruits if one of these coaches is brought in. I'm telling you now - Butch is angling to come back and, if he is hired, he will be at Miami for the rest of his coaching career. Read Bruce Feldman's article. He did nothing wrong at UNC and should not have been fired. Go Canes.

oh I didn't know having 3 backs in the backfield was crowded.....and you fail to state that miller and james had only 1 year left.....storm was in the golden discipline dog house....

bait and switch in the living rooms during recruitment....then reality sets in when you get here....that's why the casualty list just keeps getting longer....

golden will rid good players at a moments notice.....the "process/300 page binder" trumps all

UM swagger football taking place at Louisville as the whole coaching staff runs on the field when Um has that 4th and 2 early in the game......

I will hold the "U" sign up to UM coaches and talk trash right to their faces like devonte freeman and teddy bridgewater....18 yr olds throwing UM coaches under the bus on national tv....

how can a fan recover from that?

the team is lost....relationship issues never resolved themselves after luther robinsons father went public....TMZ is underlying this team....

lets see what happens with tracy howard, duke, ereck flowers and now rashawn scott...

Feldman article on Butch - worth your time to read:

up 51 points a jimmy acted like the national championship was on the line......then punished them after.....

don't you get it?

Sorry Gallo whichever one you are that quote 'backfield is too crowded' is from Storm's Dad, and so is 'he's a mama's boy and wants to be near his mama', those are straight from the Herald after interviewing his father, so that tells me he didn't want to wait and compete, and he also got almost knocked cold by Spence, and he didn't like that either.

Cal, they pick two or three kids to pump up and advertise as world beaters every off-season to keep us interested, only to not see them play or live up to the hype. This year its Jamal Carter, Taylor Gadbois and Alex Gall since we have no depth at safety and the o-line took hits. Look for Raphael Kirby and Figueroa to now amazingly "get it" and be rumored to be tearing it up in practice. Of course this is due to Jimmy Gaines' graduation and DZP possible departure.

Also can't wait for Susan's piece about Ryan Williams journey to UM, his marriage, and how he is spinning the ball like Testaverde in practice. Its almost time to sell the benchwarmers as all-americans.

ROFL right on cue with the bait & switch in full effect on nigel, but he's not buying it, and I was looking at that play last night when we tried to go for it on 4th and 2 with a slow running play and the whole ville staff was on the field hype, it got my hype, lol:

I don’t normally post articles but this means the D staff are STILL blaming the players!

Miami Booker T. Washington High School CB Nigel Bethel II, a Cane commitment, says he’ll take a visit to either Georgia or Arkansas in late January – he’s waiting on offers from both programs. Bethel says it’ll come down to Miami and those two programs. “Georgia will let me know if they offer in the middle of January when they come back down,” Bethel said. “And I’ve talked to Randy Shannon – I’ll have to see the better opportunity for me.” Bethel says he’s already spoken with Cane coaches about concerns he has regarding UM’s defense. “I feel like they have the talent to beat anybody, shut anybody out,” he said. “They’re just not putting it together yet. It’s a bad thing, but when the 2014 class comes in all the programs will be solved.” He adds that “I want a new scheme. It seems like when other teams watch film they see weaknesses in the scheme we’re running. We need to create blitzes for the linebackers and defensive linemen to confuse the quarterback and then have the cornerbacks sit and play up.” He says he’s taken his concerns to Cane coaches and that “they said when they get more players and a lot more athletic guys on defense they’ll change it.” Bethel categorized his UM commitment as “soft,” and asked if Cane fans should be worried about him sticking said, “I don’t know. I can’t say right now.”

^^^Also sounds like what others are saying so he’s listening to what others around the city are saying.

It amazes me the patience that some people are rendering Golden when he is making $2.5 million per year and never won a title. Do you realize that if you give every coach a five year scholarship to come to Coral Gables and TRY to do their thing, and they do not win, we will have gone through only four coaches, but would have gone two decades without winning a National Championship. That is 20 years. Does anyone care that the program is now on year 13? This is unacceptable. Things are not any better than when under Randy. Randy was a bit in over his head as a head coach, but he should have been offered to stay on as Defensive Coordinator. Not that he had to fight for the money that was due to him.

I blame the administration more than Golden. Other than Bernie Kosar, the administration has not deferred or asked assistance from some of the best former UM coaches and players in the NFL, let alone hire them. There is no reason UM should be at this depth of mediocrity. The talent, wisdom, experience and success that has come out of that football program in the past 20 years, is unparalleled with any other program in the country. Yet, the administration does not make use of this invaluable resource, even on a consultant basis. The former players and coaches say the same thing! If changes are not made with Golden and/or his staff, then there needs to be more accountability toward the administration.

Saban got Bama to the BCS Championship and won in year three, with dealing with similar NCAA circumstances. Golden wholeheartedly believes that the Canes are not where we need to be in year three. Really? So, why stick with him then. So, how long will it take before the Canes are "Where we need to be"? Five, six, seven years into his stay? Basically two recruiting classes. Letting him play out his contract with no accountability and championships until 2020 will be 19 years since UM won it all. People must be insane to allow this to happen when better/championship proven coaches are available.

No doubt Golden is perhaps a nice guy, hard worker, good recruiter. However, if those kids aren't coached up, you'll have mediocrity indefinitely stepping forward no matter what star ranking they have.

Personally the under the radar recruiting of three star kids, who are coached up to become first round NFL picks, is what I prefer. Less time chasing after the same carrot all the other schools are chasing with the four and five star kids, and more time you can devote towards developing your signed talent. Butch is the master at that, as taught by Jimmy Johnson. The only prequisites Butch and Jimmy had is that the recruit had to have a chip on their shoulder, a fire in their belly, and be fast, fast, fast, so that they could take a Safety and make them a linebacker, or take a tight end and make them a defensive tackle.

Since the administration, the coaching staff, and many of this sites bloggers do not have the urgency to WIN, it may be time to take the U off the helmet and replace it with an M. M not being for Miami, but M for mediocrity.

Thanks for the good post Sunny and the link that I was just about to ask for!

LOL, tell it, apparently they never heard of, "you can fool a lot of people, most of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time". This b.s. psychology ploy this moron is implementing is comical and he needs to be slapped. "Pleas come back, please come back, and be apart of this program" SHUT-UP!

Great post "Time to Move On"!

NO team fears UM anymore and it isn't because of our players, its due to our coaching.

EVERY coach is telling their players that they will beat Us if they just listen to their full proof plans & blueprint to do so.

I want yall to know (Cane fans everywhere) that as we type, there's a blueprint out on how to defeat and break the will of the Miami Hurricanes schematically.

The plan is full proof, the only issue is whether a team has the physical ability to do it.

Every team has that plan for the opposing team they're going up against.

Gallo, you love the KAK, green pea. And green is what you pee you sick Pig.

Speaking of Pigs, notice how he jumps on the SEC bandwagon. Of course, the SEC Least has only won one bowl game.

Riding the West's d*ck as usual, Pig. The West would like to secede from the SEC and leave the punks in the SEC LEast. Gatr Trash is straight garbage.

Every team has that plan for the opposing team they're going up against.

Posted by: Cola Cane | January 02, 2014 at 10:31 AM

Lol! No they don't, they just think they do. My point is that there's zero wiggle in the scheme (no adjustments) that we deploy bot offensively and defensively from game to game. We use the same game plan for everybody, and when U are known to do so, it allows blueprints to be made on U. Golden is always confused after we lose games because teams switched things up. We haven't made an opposing coach feel that way in years, even if we won the game.

I meant that every team goes into the game thinking they have the perfect game plan for the opposing team, but executing it is a different thing all together. I agree HTC that AG is not a good planner, most of the time. Was VERY disappointed in how we looked lost against UL. I said in earlier posts, just mirror the Cincy/UCF games and that will help. I will say this though, our offense let us down big time in that game, moreso than the D IMO.

stanford ran d'o and goldie's 3 down linemen, LBs five yards off the los, zone no pass coverage, bend and break, prevent the stanford win no defense.

michigan state ran four down linemen, stopped the stanford running game, put pressure on the stan QB and won the game.

For three years, goldie has used his mediocre no defense.
His own record proves he is an idiot.

If the Canes can not stop any team's running game from moving down the field by using only 3 def. linemen in a track stance, the obvious answer is to add another lineman to the def. line. Duhhh. If that is not enough, add another def. lineman and use a five four two.

With goldie's zone no pass coverage "defense," the Canes are not able to stop anyone's passing game. So, they might as well go man to man and at least stop other teams' running games. Duhhhh.

And finally, why are so many bloggers so stupid on this site as well as stupid goldie and his stupid staff? I am not remarking from my opinion. I am just stating the obvious which is apparent to anyone looking at goldie's record and how easy it is for other teams to run and pass against GOLDIE'S NO defense.

Don't blame the players because goldie puts them out of position. Don't talk about how you do not have enough big talented def. linemen because goldie did not recruit any. The Cane losses are totally the fault of golden and his staff, and indirectly, those who hired him. And it will go on and on until he leaves.

If it were not for Morris winning against lowly UNC and WF in the last desperate minute of those games, goldie would be 7-6. Do you mediocre minds like that kind of a record for the U?

Got it Cola and thats very true. Just remember that Golden has said emphatically on at least two recent occasions that "every aspect of the team is from me and has my stamp of approval". That includes the offense. The offense we see is Golden's and defense we see is Golden's.

"He says he’s taken his concerns to Cane coaches and that “they said when they get more players and a lot more athletic guys on defense they’ll change it.” Bethel categorized his UM commitment as “soft,” and asked if Cane fans should be worried about him sticking said, “I don’t know. I can’t say right now.”

wow.....that's unbelievable, still blaming the players....dnofrio aint going anywhere....they are looking for south florida talent to bail them out....

see...the hidden problem is these coaches don't know enough....thats why they could not prepare for Louisville like pat narduzzi did against stanford.....

Exactly Cane72, dudes hate Morris now, but were going at Calvin with knives when he saw some flaws on Morris and posted them.

Morris has bailed Golden and D'No (defenses) out so many times and its crazy how their apologists unanimously hate him now after doing so. Without SteMo's talent our records would be atrocious.

Morris is a great QB. But any QB is going to get
tentative after a few hits because the OC and goldie are telling him to stand in the pocket and get killed because they are sending receivers out on long routes instead of slants in and out or buttonhooks.

flat (go nowhere) passes and hail mary passes are crap passing routes and waste a down giving the offense only two down to make ten yards. The most important thing for the offense is making first and tens over and over. That means ten yard passing routes over the middle and a quick pass to the tight end, wide receivers down ten yards and take a slant in or out or a button hook.

And the Canes need a big, tough running back even if they need to put a big tight end in the backfield who loves to hit someone and drive for four yards. Miami's little halfbacks were getting killed all season long on running plays. Remember Duke Johnson?

Looks like the kitchen is heating up.. Expect Golden to bolt. At least he carried us through the NCAA mess with class.

Time to move on.. But with whom? I seriously doubt the Chudster and Butchy Boy will come back.

Time to think outside the box. We need to maximize our value given the limited capital we have? How bout..

Rod Carey NIU

Butch would come and wouldn't ask for anything more than Golden considering his infamous yet *unwarranted* reputation for scandal. Its all about whether UM will have enough humility to accept him back.

The responding shock wave would erupt South Florida and the headline would send fear through the bones of coaches and pundits like Lou Holtz.

Immediate results on and off-the field. No rebuild...No excuses!!

Butch is a hill snake. He is more than tainted by what went on at UNC on top of the way he left Miami.

Don't be such an effing idiot. Enough with the Butch talk you hayseed.

Find a defensive coach on a winning team somewhere whether in big time college or the NFL. Howard Schnell came from the Dolphins and was on Shula's def staff. He brought Shula's playbooks with him. And the Cane's 5 NC and in the hunt for 4 more are in the history books.

A winning team starts with a great defense that first stops every run like Mich. State did to Stanford, and then, plays man to man on passing plays and puts great pressure on the passers.

On offense, a great running game sets up the great passing game.

golden has it all ack basswards. The Cane players took his losing game and at least salvaged a winning season for goldie in spite of his stupidity.

Definition of hayseed- a person from the country, esp. a simple, unsophisticated one.

I too think it is inappropriate and unlikely Butch comes back.

Doubt Butch would come back, but I'd love to smack 'Slew Slotzz' right in his fat mouth.

Soup PUNK'D Five Titles. Told him to SHUT THE F|_|CK UP.
Wen the worlds biggest homer says that to you, you know there is a problem.
