Hurns named team MVP at Hurricanes award banquet

The Miami Hurricanes football team held its 2013 Canes Football Awards Show on Saturday night at the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall located inside the Frost School of Music.

Joe Zagacki, the “Voice of the Miami Hurricanes”, served as the awards show’s emcee. The show opened with the top 13 plays of the 2013 season.

The Hurricanes coaching staff handed out 21 annual player awards. Freshman WR/KR Stacy Coley was named the team’s Newcomer of the Year; junior LB and Butkus Award semifinalist Denzel Perryman was named Defensive MVP, while senior OG and Senior Bowl participant Brandon Linder was named Offensive MVP.

Second-team All-America P Pat O’Donnell was named Special Teams MVP and senior WR Allen Hurns was awarded the Jack Harding Team Most Valuable Player award.

Throughout the evening, several video messages from prominent #ProCanes were played for the team – Warren Sapp, Michael Irvin, Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis, Ed Reed, Jon Beason, Antrel Rolle, Devin Hester and Greg Olsen.

QB Stephen Morris was the recipient of the Plumer Award for Leadership, Motivation and Spirit. Senior DE Shayon Green received the Melching Leadership Award. Both awards are voted on by the team.

At the end of the night, head coach Al Golden thanked the senior class and all 25 seniors were presented with their framed jersey.

I guess the downward defensive stat trend of points scored against and yards given up as the last 3 seasons progress and come to an end, are just factless assertion.

Posted by: HarrietTubmanCane

That is what an assertion is, Tubby. You presume to know the driver of an event when you don't (or provide no facts to suggest you do)

Simply, what evidence do you possess that playing a passive d wears defenders down more than an aggressive defense?

If Miami wins, what will Gallo do? Golden will have Miami's first ten win season in ten years under an NCAA cloud, while Shannon couldn't with clear skies.

Jax,

We can only hope for the worst for him.

Louisville will score 40+. We need to respond accordingly on O.

Posted by: GatorKillerCane | December 18, 2013 at 11:59 AM

How did U presume this? Isn't this an assertion? Do U know the "driver of this event (your prediction)"

...but I'm the "faux intellectual"...jealousy is not befitting of a man.

Louisville didn't score 40 on some of those powerhouses in the AAC.

Canes can win vs Louisville with the right mindset----we aren't going to have a defense appear from nowhere. Louisville will score more than 40 points.

We simply need to outscore them. That means when it is 4th and 2 from our 45 we go for it, unlike the Duke game where we punted and they got back to the same spot after 2 plays. Need to treat every possession as if it is the last drive, like the UNC game.

///////////////////////////////

Who or what is the "driver" is this post? What "evidence do U possesssssss?"
////////////////////////////

March, uh, no one cares.

Posted by: GatorKillerCane | December 18, 2013 at 11:41 AM

How do U know that no one cares? This post is pure assertion!!!! How do U "presume" this? What are your "evidences". Who/what/where is the driver of this assertion????

U see how dumb and obsessed U look and sound? Stop the inferiority complex behavior.

Harriet, you are stupid and no one cares.

Did 86 "drive the event" of U changing your name after he threatened U? Or did he drive the event (lol) of U being obsessed with any and all ex-Legion?

No identity nor motivation to post outside of hate. Sad

Mean while another big recruit is signing.
According to a report from Jason Jewell of Scout.com, Scottsdale (Ariz) CC DT Calvin Heurtelou will be signing with the Miami Hurricanes.

Keep adding!

No one needs to care but the person I'm directly addressing who routinely only posts after I do.

If U truly didn't care, would U respond?

all what if's and excuses from U--horrible posting.

Hey Harriet, you're still stupid.

...another flea flicked.

Well we all knew you had fleas Harriet. They love basements.

Then we're in agreement! I'd rather have them then be one. U can get rid of fleas, but U can't stop being one. Figures that U know what they love.

HTC, his point is that nobody here cares the article posted by the gatr troll about the gatr basketball team.

Are you saying that we should care about the gatr basketball team on here?

Perhaps folks should start posting Canes basketball stories on the gatr blog, since it seems that it is the "new" valid.

This blog is about the Canes, not about some team afraid to face us.

JaxCane, fake Gallo will just pretend he never claimed we would lose. Just like he did after the gatr game, the Pitt game, the GT game, the UNC game, and the other six wins he guessed wrong on.

GatorKillerCane, are you really a canespace poster? Why?

I don't see why you would go where the only opinion allowed is that of one man. I disagree with HTC all the time for example, and still I don't see a need to ban him. That guy seems to have so much of a tight fist on his blog, that it is his way or the highway.

As for HTC and Calvin and D bringing that site up over and over again, and accusing anyone that disagrees with you as being a poster there, it is just the kind of advertising that guy wants. I would think that part of moving on would mean moving on completely.

#43 of the top 100 JC players avaialble, and second best of the available JC players at DT, behind Jarran Reed, who looks like he is already an Alabama silent.

Adds some experience to next year's DT signing list, which we will need.

I thought even Tubby would understand the difference between a prediction, for example, Louisville will score 40+ points and an assertion, for example, her comment that passive defenses wear a team out as the season progresses. Not too difficult even for the mentally lame to understand, I would have thought.

Harriet, you are stupid and no one cares.
Posted by: JaxCane | December 18, 2013 at 04:37 PM

This is about a Canes basketball story on the gator blog??

Sorry, did not see that. I thought you were talking about:

March, uh, no one cares.
Posted by: GatorKillerCane | December 18, 2013 at 11:41 AM

Sorry for the confusion.

We simply need to outscore them. That means when it is 4th and 2 from our 45 we go for it, unlike the Duke game where we punted and they got back to the same spot after 2 plays. Need to treat every possession as if it is the last drive, like the UNC game.

Posted by: GatorKillerCane | December 18, 2013 at 11:41 AM

I do know the difference thats why I posted these examples of assertions as well (U conveniently ignored).

Are these posts predictions or assertions?

They're assertions, now prove them? Make sure to explain "the driver of the event" and how U were able to "presume" along with detailing "the evidence U possess" lol? Corny.

We'll wait.

"March", the name changing murder joking troll in one of his latest IDs, had posted a longwinded propaganda puff piece about the gatrs, since for him football season is long over. Despte the fact that if made no mention of the Hurricanes, his ID tried to claim we would be sad in March, while the gatrs would not. Kind of like how he claimed they would go undefeated and win the SEC and BCS titles, and how he was working with the FBI on a drug angle in the Sean Taylor murder trial.

GKC was telling him that noone cares, which was consise, but if he had been more detailed and said "No one on "Eye on the U" that are Canes fans care about your latest cut and paste attack on Canes fans, players and coaches", then it would have been more clear.

Good news about the JUCO DT. Canes need immediate help on the d-line. There wasn't much depth this season, and with Renfrow, Gilbert, and Porter leaving it will be thin. I hope Valentine sticks - he could play immediately and make an impact.

Ok, Five I was using that post to prove a point that everyone makes assertions on the blog, so his nitpicking of mine by asking about the "driver" and "evidence" can be done to anyone after any post. Assertion and opinion is what blogs are all about.

"Dude trying to bring back the old, "I'm an insider" one upper blogging claim and swag from the early 2000's. gtfoh.

I don't care who U are or who U know--I don't believe U or him.

Posted by: HarrietTubmanCane | December 18, 2013 at 10:42 AM"

Awesome. That is all.

Well only 13 more games to go of this horrible game plan that Louisville will come out and drive right down the field on. Calling defense scared, obsessed with dead pedo lovers from Pennsylvania, easily THE WORST COACH IN MODERN UM FOOTBALL HISTORY. Can't get replaced fast enough, just keep the former commissioner of the Big 8 as far away from the process as possible this time.

Unless one JUCO DT is going to make all the difference in the world, in which case I'll be wrong.

@jeffgreer_cj: The #Canes O-line has 500 lbs on #UofL's starting front four. Miami's OL avg 6-6, 319. Cards DL avg 6-3, 273.

It should also be of note that UL's O-line has given up 25 sacks on the year.

For those that know this game you understand short area quickness and not forty time is most important. They could definitely increase the forty time and still diminish their short area quickness by gaining too much weight.
Posted by: DaU | December 17, 2013 at 10:00 PM

Comical, is that the word to use? LOL. How can one be slower on the short area quickness and be faster on the forty? Impossible. Gus Edwards is slow too, isn't he? LOL

We need stronger, faster AND BIGGER players to be successful these days. And we are getting there slowly. Talent that is willing to put in work is being developed.

Posted by: Sunny Dee | December 18, 2013 at 05:49 PM

Looks like the news may have been a bit premature.

Yeah, it's not official yet. Either way, if we get him and the other recruits stick we will have a nice DT class.

Could DT Valentine be ANOTHER early Cane verbal LOST DUE too questionable academic qualifications. hUh

Because during the past eight or nine seasons. Miami, Florida has lost several early verbals (5/4-STAR types.
) all because the POWERS THAT BE connected with the university, REFUSED to give two/three prep kids a bloody break. Go figures'.

Now do y'all Goldie nd' Marky Mark apologists UNDERSTAND WHY both L.S.U. and Roll Tide Roll are coming HARD AFTER DT Valentine. Get outta' here with that INTERNET gossip, Weirdo!!

Oh sorry. We forgot that the head coach and defensive coordinator of the football team sets the academic standards for the university.

D, you sir, like harriet, remain stupid.

Top 3 class in the works. Hate on.

FWIW... a CRITICAL TANGIBLE surrounding the Canes successful venture against MIGHTY Louisville will be Miami, Florida's RUNNING GAME and what not. No if's, but's or whatever's!

For instance, in EVERY BOWL GAME lost since the 1998 bowl season. The Canes FAILED to break the ONE-HUNDRED YARD rushing tally. dUh That's LESS than 100 rushing yards in each and every bowl game lost the past 15 bowl game seasons.

Matter of fact, the Hurricanes could only muster 65 total rushing yards against Ohio St. And Miami, Florida played in TWO overtimes. hUh

Of course, there's always an exception to the rule regarding the Canes PUTRID rushing tally and what not. And that was their Bay Area bowl game against Cal. The Hurricanes had circa 132 total rushing yards and lost a heart breaker to the Golden Bears by seven points ( QB Harris played INJURED during that game. ).

!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ?? MAY BE ?? stupid and what not.

However, at least I'm NOT a BRAINWASHED, DENSE Goldie nd' Marky Mark LAP POODLE!! dUh

Oh. Again, sorry. I was uninformed that only the brainwashed understand that academic standards come from way higher than a HC or DC.

Picking a fight with name calling is stupid. And to have zero basis for doing so when D never said the HC or DC made the academic standards is just asinine. Whats the difference between u saying "higher ups" and D saying, "the powers that be"?

Who is truly the hater?

because right after referring to the powers to be he took a shot at "Goldie and Marky Mark apologists." What would they have anything to do with it? That was what he referred to. The hater would be the ones that spend all their time talking about the team but never have anything positive to say. So you would fit in that category. Although as soon as you used the word "hater" you proved that you are twelve.

Exactly they don't, thats why I didn't connect the two paragraphs when he him self, separated them. He saying that Golden apologists may be so dumb that they don't understand that the universities standards could keep a recruit from enrollment at UM, but lure him to other state schools--that simple.

Damn U are a lap poodle for real---you're an offensive (came at me unprovoked as well) and defensive person.

Highly sensitive to supposed insults, but willing to dish them out unprovoked.

Are U a "Golden apologist"?

I used the word hater to mock your projection-based usage of it here:

Hate on.
Posted by: JaxCane | December 18, 2013 at 06:28 PM

Why do I even waste my time, some here are just brain dead human beings. Everything must be explained, the sequence of events is a struggle to follow for some of y'all and y'all even forget what you've said yourselves.

But then have the nerve to call someone else "stupid", without even being provoked to do so.

Well I've given up having an intelligent conversation with you, Gallo, D, or whatever your name changes to because it's useless. When you are proven wrong you change what you said. It's much easier to call you stupid. It's fun to troll a troll.

All of these kids get their 3months of glory as they keep people guessing on where they end up going it happens at every school as players tweet and utube themselves to the point of being a joke, remember that less then five percent pan out anyway just go back five years and look at how many kids with five stars attached to their names never pan out and one star and no star guys excel , get the best guys you can because you cannot get them all as some guys want to play now like Alex Collins at Arkansas who would have to share some carries with duke and not carry the load, all I know is al went from 5-7 to 7-5 and now looking at ten wins a great job anywhere with the ncaa noose around his neck give him two more years before we run him out go canes and beat Clint hurtt like a drum on the 28th

The "Goldilocks is our Savoir" crowd is a sensitive bunch.......get back to me when he fires the worst DC in the school's history.....but he won't.....sigh

Scout.com is reporting this Juco top 100 DT is signing today as Juco's are allowed. Thats #43 in DT overall in Juco 100 and Wyche is #57 overall and a DT in Juco 100 on Rivals. http://rivals.yahoo.com/miami/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-3401

2 nice Highly ranked big tackles to go along with the 3-4 freshman DT's coming in. LOADING UP

But the question is can they develop this talent. I look at Chick as a prime example of this staff's inability to do so. A guy like T. McCord should be all-conference next year, but under D'No hmmmm I doubt it.

Pettway, a former four-star prospect out of Florida, was one of four players dismissed from Alabama in February for alleged involvement in an on-campus altercation. Pettway was arrested for second-degree robbery and promptly dismissed by coach Nick Saban.

In March, Pettway was granted permission to attend school in Mississippi. He later received youthful offender status, which keeps records from public view

"U paid them to teach u how to stand in line. And probably still owe
them till this day."

What is that? yea, you're emo. for sure.

Anyway, opinions on what people do (action), like playcalling etc..
fine. Fair game.

Opinions on what the HC thinks is consistent with magical thinking and
shouldn't be passed off as being based in any rational chain of logic or deduction. I didn't know you were a time-traveling clairvoyant.

"Swasey was over strength and conditioning prior to Golden coming to
UM, so it was an obvious critique of his abilities...Golden somewhat
believed that Swasey's style or approach had already ruined many
players before him."

The two statements above as to Golden's "obvious" critique and belief he "ruined" players are a figment of your imagination. Swasey's boss every year is the HC. So if anything it was Shannon's edict just as Utough is Golden's.

"This can explain why he brought along his own conditioning program
and Swasey was asked to abide by it--or goodbye."

Swasey was given an ultimatum? really? c'mon man.

I think it's fair to criticize that... Is that what this blog is about? Manufacturing drama? Golden thinking so lowly of Swasey's "abilities and giving him a job, but failing to bring in a guy like Soldinger? That makes no sense to me... Keeping the guy who ruins players but not hiring the guy who put 10 dudes in the league?

What kind of rationale or deduction is that?

You were correct in your statement that I offer little more proof than
you for what I say, so i'll refrain, even though I know better. This isn't a personal matter, I'd just like to see a more factual conversation, which may make some topics like Golden's frame of mind, off limits, instead of the constant bung hole reasoning that attributes thoughts and agendas on his behalf. More Xs & Os.

The Shalala ran off Butch therefore she is a troll is stuff of stupid. And in that vein, Golden's "obvious" belief that Swasey "ruined" many players begs for correction.

Yeah, I'm sure Saban is counseling the kid weekly now that he doesn't go to school there. What in this post makes Golden a hypocrite exactly?

Posted by: Next Man []_[]p

How do you feel about the defense? Do you believe our talent on defense is last in the ACC worthy? How about last year #116? I'm curious because it appears your post or reasons for posting are pretty consistent as well.

Posted by: Next Man []_[]p | December 18, 2013 at 10:21 PM

I've never seen a clearer example of projection than this post.

"Magical thinking"? Really, nothing more magical than the 2 days it took U to twist my post into that rabbit above.

"Time traveling clairvoyant"? Really? But U are the poster who always claims to have been "there" whenever a topic regarding UM is discussed lol! U know Golden personally and know exactly how he feels about UM and this football program-- but I'm the one who's clairvoyant.

Talk about facts when your idea of that is Raising Canes commercials and PR tricks. Thats what your decade at UM got U? U can't form an original idea and to make matters even worst than that--U hate anyone who can or attempts to.

Golden kept Swasey for continuity purposes and to ease the transition as he has been one of the most popular staples of the football program for 10 years.

Golden found out that Swasey wanted to stay and he gave him marching orders called U-Tough as a condition. Thats not throwing Golden under the bus or trying to disparage him, thats what I believe happened and what makes sense to me. Golden believes that Swasey can execute U-Tough skill-wise, and because the kids are already bought into Swasey the man and the reputation. Keeping Swasey gives U-Tough automatic credibility.

I've never said that about Shalala and Butch, so please stop trying to mix it in to your rebuts to me for added flavor. I do understand that U need all the help U can get, but don't put words in my mouth.
