« Al Golden after the Hurricanes' first bowl practice in three years. Practice No. 2 is today. | Main | Nine Canes named to Coaches' All-ACC team »

So, what do you think of the Teddy vs. The Canes Bowl (AKA Russell Athletic Bowl)? Should be fun.

Sounds like a movie: Teddy vs. The Canes.

At one time, Teddy Bridgewater was committed to the Miami Hurricanes. Now he's committed to beating the Hurricanes.

Bridgewater, a Miami Northwestern product who now stars as the Louisville Cardinals' quarterback, will lead the Cardinals against Miami at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 28 in the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando.

They'll officially announce the matchup in about half an hour. The game will be played at the Citrus Bowl Stadium.

Eighteenth-ranked Louisville (16th in USA Today coaches' poll) is 11-1 and 7-1 in the American Athletic Conference.

Miami, ranked 25th in the USA Today coaches' poll, is 9-3 and 5-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Miami leads this series 9-1, but lost 31-7 the last time they played the Cardinals in Louisville in 2006.

Bridgewater pulled his commitment from Miami after former UM coach Randy Shannon was fired. He followed his Miami Northwestern teammate and favorite receiver Eli Rogers to Louisville.

Bridgewater's mother was unhappy with the way Hurricanes fans reacted to her son decommitting from UM before he made Louisville his choice.

Regardless, Bridgewater is a great talent, and as repeatedly witnessed in his three seasons at Louisville, has a knack for creating good situations out of bad ones on the field.

Last season, Bridgewater threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns as the then-No. 21 Cardinals upset third-ranked Florida 33-23 in the Sugar Bowl.

The Cards have 23 players on their roster from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Talk about a South Florida pipeline.

If the Canes can pull this one off, it would definitely bolster recruiting efforts.

So, what's your take? Will you travel to Orlando for the game?

 Do you like the matchup?

I definitely like the matchup, and the storylines.

And just in case you didn't know, Miami plays Louisville next season, when the Cards join the ACC as a member of the Atlantic Division. They'll replace Maryland. The game date has not yet been announced.

Miami is allotted 13,500 tickets for the Russell Athletic Bowl. Tickets are priced at $77 and $82 and can be purchased through the UM Ticket Office online at CanesTix.com, in-person at BankUnited Center (M-F, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or by phone at 1-800-GO CANES.

The quote above helps best define the haters on this blog. Their lack of football knowledge and enormously stupid and redundant comments have done more damage than Coker and Shannon combined. The haters did more to push Teddy to Louisville than anything or anyone else...that's a fact!!

yeah about 170 mil difference to play in this bowl instead if chick bowl.
it is awful when duke gets 170 mil more then we do. this defense cost us money. big money

Any word on Dixon?

this sucks I was hoping if we were going to get our asses kicked it was to the tune of 4 million not 2.25

No that's not a FACT, that's your opinion. He decommitted first so whatever was said by fans had no effect on his decision to not come to Miami. If you think these kids base their college decision based on comments made by so called "fans" then I'll sell you a deed to the Brooklyn Bridge.

Did Vegas release new odds of Teddy Bridgewater going 1st overall in the NFL Draft now that he is facing Mark D'Onofrio's defense?

How embarrassing. Sorry bowl, and we still aren't going to win. But when the torch our non existent D will AL finally get some sense and make coaching changes. Their entire team will have career highs against us, just like all teams this season.

Stop it stupid!! Your clueless moron inspired posts add nothing to this blog and you troll my comments and any other posters that have a positive outlook concerning the Canes.

Why don't you try this...somehow, someway screw up the courage to use just one screen name. Now I know that a spineless twerp like you shudders at such a suggestion, which speaks directly to not only your cowardice spewed out on this blog, but your daily life as well, which is yet...ANOTHER FACT!!

Next Man[]_[]p,

I don't think Dixon has made his intentions known as of yet. The video on this kid reflects a soon to be college superstar...let's hope he flashes the "U" and further adds to Al Golden's #3 nationally ranked 2014 recruiting class.

teddy will torch UM defense.....golden/dnofrio will be embarrasses AGAIN.....

2014: 6-6 at best.....

2011-2014 a complete waste of time.....

cant wait to hear the golden excuses....

THE WORST POSTER IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL RELATED BLOGGING didn't buy a ticket to this bowl game. Did he? It's a Ganes thing, they never understand.

ACC comish decided to force Duke into the sold out Peach Bowl, knowing it wouldn't matter if they bought the minimum distribution because the SEC would gobble those tickets up in an instant and bumped UM down the line to Orlando in an attempt to move the rest of the ACC side tickets and pick up some of the slack from the Cardinals. Payout doesn't matter because all that bowl revenue gets distributed evenly in the ACC from a pool of all the payouts added up, unlike the Big 12 where Texas gets special consideration to the chagrin of the rest of the conference members.

450 yards is the opening over/under on all purpose yardage for Bridgewater's last game in college. As a Hurricane fan, I'm just hoping UM gets the ball last with a chance to score to win, because if the Cardinals get that same opportunity, you know they're cashing in on the cookie cutter sorry scheme Alverage puts in every single game for the 37th time in a row now, it's automatic.

It's a Canes thing, Ganes fans wouldn't understand.

What happened to LB Keith Brown for UF from Miami?

Never see him in uniform (#1) anymore for them. He is still listed as a starter on Canesport.

I meant: for ULouisville

the philadelphia eagles rushed for over 200 yrds in the 2nd half against the Detroit lions... what happened there????... did the lions fire Jim Schwartz & hire D'nofrio as their coach at halftime? haha... sorry fellow canes fans I just cudnt resist... I hope & pray we win but if we make avg qb's look like Manning I'm scared of what bridgewater will do to us... lets hope all the extra practices pay off. go canes

split the money that is

Louisville will be the second best offense we face this yr. Which means Dontknows defense will give up about 600 yds. One more pathetic game for Golden to do something about his buddy.

Saw this team live the other night and wasn't overly impressed with them. They have no running game, and if it wasn't for a two absolutely unreal plays, Teddy's numbers were pretty weak. Their D sucks, as UC's QB had their way with them. We should win this game. Those of you predicting record setting numbers clearly have not watched L'Ville play, but then again you hacks are calling for the end of the world before every game.

Thanks Zook. He looks like a well-rounded player with a good build that will be a tough cover at the college level. Hopefully he stays home.

Ad for those of you who are disappointed; if we can't win this bowl we don't deserve a better one. The season is over. This game is for the seniors. Let's hope they go out with a win. We will improve with 15 practices and come back strong in the Spring.

After this weekend's exhibition of top notch college football--there shouldn't be any more discussion about coaching vs talent when it comes to the state of UM football.

So many clear examples of coaching acumen, planning and scheming that makes Golden apologists sound really delusional.

Could anyone truly imagine our Canes in any of the games played this weekend?

I can see our players, but never our coaches. They wouldn't have stand a chance--UM didn't play a game this weekend for a reason. That reason is Golden and D'no.

We watched A-level football, our coaches are C-level.

I agree that we should beat UL and that they aren't on that--they have serious issues running and stopping the run. Their pass defense is porous as well.

Whomever runs the ball best will win.

There is a difference between reality and being a hack

"If the Canes can pull this one off, it would definitely bolster recruiting efforts."

Really! What does beating UL has to do with our recruiting efforts? NOTHING. Who cares about what you think...get past this season, bring in a good D Cord, and let's get ready for the playoffs. We missed out on getting to a good bowl by losing to a glorified High School team in Duke; FSU made Duke look like the team they really are - poor. We missed out - AGAIN.

Eddiecane,no bowls pay 170 mil.

ACC teams divide bowl money so from a direct finacial perspective, it doesn't matter if we or duke play a given bowl.

We will continue to miss out with this coaching staff. Top recruiting class will be meaningless without a good coaching staff to develop players and put together good schemes. Next year average season again. 7 wins at best.

Well, this match-up is a good one to as well. Whether it was texas a & m or Louisville, we were going to face a good qb. Remember, it doesn't matter what a team doesnt' do before they play us, once they play us, season highs start popping up all over the play for opposing offenses.

Harriet TUBMAN, remember this lie after the gaytor game, name this liar:

///////////////////////////
"Actually you could see our defense starting to come before the end of last season, around the 2nd half of the Fsu game"
///////////////////////////

These nerds/morons tried to ride the wave and didn't realize it was just the low tide coming back in!

Thismis a great opportunity for the staff to show what Miami is made of. Defense better be prepared for this one!!,!

Lady, if the best we are going to do is win 7 games next yr, why are you posting here 9 months before that dismal season would even begin?

randy is at Arkansas... go there and ride his nutz. Al has put together an amazing now that the cloud is gone.

It was funny last year watching a bunch of people try and clown the gaytors for losing to louisville and i said last year, we more than likely wouldn't have beat them either.

Also, charlie strong is a real defensive minded headcoach, he'll break down smo17 and he'll be looking for the early route to jump like they did last year, i liek this match-up, louisville beat a much more seasonsed gaytor squad, i can tell you right now, this is one of the worst qb in college football to not get pressure against, if we don't harrass teddy b, he'll solidify his status as the 1st qb taking in the draft.

My gators won't lose the bowl game this year. Miami will be embarrassed by L'ville. The offense won't show up, and the defense is still in space somewhere. Boring game with zero attraction. Especially with the cards being an acc team. Bad choice for the canes. 9-4 aint bad though. You have a couple weeks to think of excuses for Golden and d'no.
I need a job,

Looking for help on defense. Someone please make sure Al and staff are at the game Tampa Arm wood and Miami Central. Need to recruit Tampa. Arm wood will beat Miami Central. Need defensive players watch the Hawks.Miami Hurricanes beats Louisville with complete game on both sides of the football.

Starting early lol. That way when it happens I will be fully prepared. Just watched Holtz rip us to shreds and basically tell the nation we have no chance of winning because of our D. So tell me how we will have a better season next year with this coaching staff. 7 games at best

I personally think the sec didnt want ta-m in a shootout with miami and thas why we didnt get them. Louisville will do . Orlando is close. Im going! It will give the haters something to whine about if we win. .

Calvin, how come you dropped the ghetto speak? Just tired of it? We were too.

Somewhat unrelated to this column...did anybody else watch lasr night's ACC Championship Game and ask themselves the question: "How the hell did the Canes lose to Duke?"...they are a joke. Cannot imagine how many Manziel & A&M are going to hang on them...

Carol city those were my thoughts exactly. The future for our beloved Canes is very dark

Boy gallo and friends will disappear if we beat a more seasoned Louisville than the Louisville that smacked them around. Cant wait! How many gator fans in Louisville jerseys will be there? Answer 3, gallo, canetrash, andd.

Just bring it!

Duke has had better recruiting classes

I guess one excuse is already being established.
LMAO

It doesn't matter what bridgewater looked like before. Thomas look liked garbage for weeks until he played us, unc offense wasn't impressive till they played dno, wakes offense was not impressive till they played us, driskel had his best game against us, duke had their best rushing day against us. To put it simply dno is chicken soup for the struggling offenses soul.

I don't know who the hell said that cal, too many liars to choose from.

We lucked up with UL, Georgia or any other SEC school would have been the St. Valentine's Day Massacre.

UL is beatable, lets see what D'No comes up with lol!

Well, far be it from me to tell a Ganes fan who saw a team in person a few days ago beat the home team in their stadium when they had the second best game against Louisville all year, but that's an outlier in their season and the Cardinals did OK, not good, but better than average against the Bearcat O in securing that win.

Any team that averages giving up only 12 points and 258 yards a game is doing a great job all year long on that side of the ball. Especially when you add in only surrendering 86 yards rushing a game and 51% completion percentage to go with 39 sacks on 346 attempts for the season. Oh, and they destroyed USF so bad it makes the MAC morons game against them look like a nail biter, but then again, most common opponents UM faces always have an easy time by comparison against them over the last three years. But as usual, Ganes fans don't understand any of that because they can't wait for yet another golden shower form their favorite warm stream spigot that doubles as THE WORST FOOTBALL COACH IN MODERN UM HISTORY.

It's a Ganes thing, they never understand.

Can anyone think of a better dc to face as your last game on national tv than dno? I like teddy and with him the best and its a blessing he gets a proday against dno before the draft

Susan, you do a good job on the blog and all, but sometimes you get a little carried away.......Teddy versus The 'Canes......well my money is on the Canes since it is 1 guy versus about 100!! Now if it is Louisville vs. U.M., then i would say we have a chance for a better match up.

Seriously, the Bridgewater situation is interesting, but it is really UM vs. Louisville. You state that if Miami is win off makes it seem like Miami is playing FSU again or 'Bama or the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers. While I definitely respect Lousiville and Bridgewater and they surely can beat Miami (especially with our lack of defense), Miami also can surely can beat them. I personally believe Miami would have had a much tougher match up against Texas A&M than Louisville.

Bridgewater had every right to not commit to Miami if the head coach that he wanted to play for was not going to be here. It was his and his families personal choice and it has worked out well for him. Any UM fan who begrudges Bridgewater for not coming to Miami and "hates" on him is not rational and believes that we should get everyone we want and if they decide not to come here it is because "they are soft", "they are over rated and garbage anyway and I am glad that they went somewhere else" "they are afraid of competition" or the great one that our fans like to use "Either join us or get beat by us", how well has that last one worked out lately for us? LOL!!

Anyhow, if we win, which I truly think we will, again not because I disrespect Teddy or Louisville, I just truly think this is a game that we can win. I think it will solidfy our recruits trust that the program is moving in the right direction. I also believe a loss will not hurt us in recruiting, unless we get embarrassed like we did against LSU in the Peach Bowl back in 2005. Teddy vs. The 'Canes huh? LOL! Whatever it takes to get us till 12/28 at 6:45 PM, I guess.

Theirs nothing wrong with the title bc qbs are usually the face of the program. Texas am vs bama was hyped as manziel vs bama. When the broncos play patriots it's manning vs brady. It's common to use the qb to describe a team

Well, as a Canes fan, I am STILL pissed off at Teddy Bridgewater. I hope Miami's D tears his arm off and beat him with it...

Saw this team live the other night and wasn't overly impressed with them. They have no running game, and if it wasn't for a two absolutely unreal plays, Teddy's numbers were pretty weak.
