« Al Golden after the Hurricanes' first bowl practice in three years. Practice No. 2 is today. | Main | Nine Canes named to Coaches' All-ACC team »

So, what do you think of the Teddy vs. The Canes Bowl (AKA Russell Athletic Bowl)? Should be fun.

Sounds like a movie: Teddy vs. The Canes.

At one time, Teddy Bridgewater was committed to the Miami Hurricanes. Now he's committed to beating the Hurricanes.

Bridgewater, a Miami Northwestern product who now stars as the Louisville Cardinals' quarterback, will lead the Cardinals against Miami at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 28 in the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando.

They'll officially announce the matchup in about half an hour. The game will be played at the Citrus Bowl Stadium.

Eighteenth-ranked Louisville (16th in USA Today coaches' poll) is 11-1 and 7-1 in the American Athletic Conference.

Miami, ranked 25th in the USA Today coaches' poll, is 9-3 and 5-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Miami leads this series 9-1, but lost 31-7 the last time they played the Cardinals in Louisville in 2006.

Bridgewater pulled his commitment from Miami after former UM coach Randy Shannon was fired. He followed his Miami Northwestern teammate and favorite receiver Eli Rogers to Louisville.

Bridgewater's mother was unhappy with the way Hurricanes fans reacted to her son decommitting from UM before he made Louisville his choice.

Regardless, Bridgewater is a great talent, and as repeatedly witnessed in his three seasons at Louisville, has a knack for creating good situations out of bad ones on the field.

Last season, Bridgewater threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns as the then-No. 21 Cardinals upset third-ranked Florida 33-23 in the Sugar Bowl.

The Cards have 23 players on their roster from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Talk about a South Florida pipeline.

If the Canes can pull this one off, it would definitely bolster recruiting efforts.

So, what's your take? Will you travel to Orlando for the game?

 Do you like the matchup?

I definitely like the matchup, and the storylines.

And just in case you didn't know, Miami plays Louisville next season, when the Cards join the ACC as a member of the Atlantic Division. They'll replace Maryland. The game date has not yet been announced.

Miami is allotted 13,500 tickets for the Russell Athletic Bowl. Tickets are priced at $77 and $82 and can be purchased through the UM Ticket Office online at CanesTix.com, in-person at BankUnited Center (M-F, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or by phone at 1-800-GO CANES.

I think it's safe to say that teddy b will be the best qb we've face all year, while jameis is good, alot of his success has to do with the talent around him as well. Whereas teddy b makes things happen back their and is a quicker decision maker than jameis at this stage. Gotta give gumbo fisher credit, if things pan out, he'll have what i know for sure is his 1st heisman qb, as well as the #1 overaal qb in the drafy in jamrcus "buffet" russell. Had christian ponder go in the 1st round, ej manuel, in the 1st round, gumbo's resume for qb's is looking good. matt flynn bouncing around stealing 1st round money as well!

This guy is closing in on norm chow!

Really have no interest in Teddy Bridgewater. He is a Miami turncoat. His family should move away. This matchup holds no interest. The Canes should have been matched up against an SEC team on new years eve.

They cant run.
Let's Blitz all night and let the chips fall where they may.

Bridgewater's family are not turncoats--UM's administration are the turncoats by keeping Us in a bottomless pit of mediocrity that Teddy was smart enough to evade--not his fault!

An SEC team would have wiped the field with Us and U know it--just stop.

Really htc? Like the uninjured gators did before we derailed tbeir season?

Ron Kook... since you can't comprehend the difference between FACTS and your OPINION...

A fact (derived from the Latin factum, see below) is something that has really occurred or is actually the case. The usual test for a statement of fact is verifiability, that is whether it can be proven to correspond to experience. Standard reference works are often used to check facts. Scientific facts are verified by repeatable experiments.

An opinion is a judgment, viewpoint, or statement about matters commonly considered to be subjective, i.e. based on that which is less than absolutely certain, and is the result of emotion or interpretation of facts. What distinguishes fact from opinion is that facts are verifiable, i.e. can be objectively proven to have occurred. An example is: "Al Golden is the best coach in all of college football" versus "Al Golden was hired by Miami". An opinion may be supported by facts, in which case it becomes an argument, although people may draw opposing opinions from the same set of facts. Opinions rarely change without new arguments being presented. It can be reasoned that one opinion is better supported by the facts than another by analyzing the supporting arguments.[1] In casual use, the term opinion may be the result of a person's perspective, understanding, particular feelings, beliefs, and desires. It may refer to unsubstantiated information, in contrast toknowledge and fact.

God i get so tired of the idiot gayturds fans on this blog acting like miami fans and put this team down. Im also sick of actual miami fans who act like golden had himself and easy rebuild despite ncaa investigation.
Truth is 9-3 and bowl game is gonna help miami. Being able to go to a bowl game for first time in 3 yrs will make miami players happy and excited. I belive miami will beat louisville. Miami has a good secondary and louisville's weakness on offense is there oline. That said if duke johson doesn't get hurt i think miami beat duke, maybe not vt but we woudl of beat duke. yes the d has work to do and will be better next year. Al golden has gotten his team to play better every year. i expect the same next year. maybe not a better record but better team. i think we will go at least 9-3 next year . Golden can coach and all those ripping him need to just got cheer for the gayturds.

No I don't like any match up when it comes to us putting our defense on the field!! We are going to give up 50 points to Louisville!! I hope we can score 51!!

Wow, they can't run, except they average 35 carries a game for 150 yards.

Not as impressive as UM's 37-173 a game average but the 4.3 yards a carry UL averages compares not too shabbily to UM's 5.1 a carry.

But why let reality get in the way of Ganes fans asking for a rush of a guy who if the numbers from the regular season hold to their averages during the game for both teams will only be sacked twice all night, maybe three times if UM gets lucky and the OL has a bad night picking up the easy to read pressures that is this sorry staff's stock and trade defensively.

It's a Ganes thing, they never understand.

CinciCaneFan , you must not have seen our defense the past two months. We gave up 31 points and 501 yards to Pitt!! the 106 ranked offense. So imagine what we will give up with our "bend and break" defense we play. This has horror written all over it!!

I have very little interest in this game. Don't care about Teddy B, Louisville, or Orlando.

Canes should easily win this game with a competent DC, but since we have what we have, it will be a close one.

A bunch of backwater reporting to go along with this backwater bowl game.

Bolster recruiting? Since when? Louisville compared to UM??? Really?
Louisville facing a Canes prepared team should be fodder!!

Why don't you guys go shove a mike into Golden's Mug and ask him pointedly, "When do you think you can field a team as competitive and dominant as the one currently in Tallahassee, namely FSU??"

Stop the powder puff stuff already!

I like it. Our defense must pressure Bridgewater, and our offense must score early and often.

Yah it is Louisville, but such is our current fate.

Go Canes! Kick their butt!

and how m any yds did Auburn giveup against Mizzou? the vauuuuunted SECdefense? And how many yds didMizzou give up to Auburn? another vauuuunted SEC defense?

You all just st-fu

Teddy Bridge decommitted bc Shannon was fired. plain and simple. Shannon had some underhanded behind closed doors deal with Miami NW players. That is a fact. That is why Harris was promised and given play time as a freshman in that kooky two QB system. So what if some fans said stuff. That happens everywhere. In Alabama the kicker was getting deaths threats. So crappy fans exist everywhere, Zook you dumba55.

Youall dontthink Louisville fans are wondering why they havent even come close to sniffin a NC?

The Peach Bowl will go down in history as the lowest TV ratings of all time. Who gives a da--m about Duke? Word is Swofford literally forced the chick filat people to give this to Duke. The UGA-UM matchup was nearly a done deal but he stepped in. ESPN was pissed. What do you all think the ratings of a UGA-UM matchup would have been? ESPN loves Miami.

its amazing all the alleged cane fans on here just blasting this team cause they are in this bowl..how easy they forget the 2 straight years of self imposed bowl bans which helped lesson the penalties against this program, and the frustration these "kids" must have felt..so freakin lighten up and support this team..this is a great bowl game and only the beginning of bigger bowls in the future..and if you a-holes dont like it,go support the gaytors in there bowl...o thats right there staying home watching...go canes..

The game wont mean much to Miami after Teddy tears up defense, secondary to soft, again DB coach has to go, Marks scheme wont wprk at Miami with Goldens input, he might work at Temple or Ivy league not in ACC, Golden has a line of BS, neither himself or Dofornio have much experience and dont know different schemes. A change will be mandated by fans if school doesnt do something about, Mark to passive limited knowledge, to many excuses to young and no experience or this or that, you cant fix poor coaching at this level, it will be a real bad year for canes a step backwards just like defense 116 out of 120, terrible job, fire DB coach asap he doesnt no sh t from applebutter.

Al Golden needs to get real and make these changes in defense while his ship is still floating, Mark will pull him down for sure. Part of coaching is making hard decisions, if a coach has no performance or progress you have to change the venue for the school. Every team in ACC knows Miami has such poor coaching on defense they will eat us up. Charlie Strong will ram it down Goldens throat and Mark will hide behind Golden, you cant fix it. Hire the old South Florida head coach he lives in Florida excellent defense coach.

Go Canes, glad to see you in a bowl game again. And yes, I watched Lville the other night too, and they are not the same team they were before they lost to UCF. It should be a very good game in a very lousy stadium. I went to the Champs Sports Bowl and that place made the Orange Bowl look like a palace, what a dump, should be torn down, at least they replaced the turf. If the Canes play like they did at Pitt, they have a very good chance to win. Go Canes!!!

Saw this team live the other night and wasn't overly impressed with them. They have no running game, and if it wasn't for a two absolutely unreal plays, Teddy's numbers were pretty weak. Their D sucks, as UC's QB had their way with them. We should win this game. Those of you predicting record setting numbers clearly have not watched L'Ville play, but then again you hacks are calling for the end of the world before every game.

Have you watched Wake Forest play!!! They are terrible, but yet our defense allowed them to look unstoppable for much of the game. Nothing is gonna change for this game. Bridgewater will put up heisman like numbers like all the other quarterbacks we've faced. With that being said, we do have a chance to win because we should also be able to put up big numbers offensively.

On another note, did anyone watch Mizzou's coaches press conference? They asked him how do you stop Auburn's offense, and his response was, "I'm the wrong person to ask, because if I could have stopped it I would have." Now thats a real coach!!! No excuses!!!

plan on me being here for a long time trashing this coaching staff.....it will be easy since statistically golden has been defined.....

even if you just look at his stats at UM.....you cant advance if your average loss is 4 per conference play....
the program cant advance....its a statistical impossibility....

olsen/williams will never beat teddy bridgewater or jamis winston next year...there's 2 loses already....

2011 - nothing
2012 - nothing
2013 - nothing (after bowl embarrassment)
2014 - less than nothing 6-6 at best

UM defense loses shayon green and jimmy gains....both top producers for UM.....

Poor Jimmy Gallo.

Really have no interest in Teddy Bridgewater. He is a Miami turncoat. His family should move away. This matchup holds no interest. The Canes should have been matched up against an SEC team on new years eve.

Here's a prime example of another UM fan who has no clue and doesn't realize who he's rooting for. This is a class typical wanna be UM fan, he roots for the school not the players who made the school what it is today. teddy b did not want to play for these mac morons and if you're to stupid to see he made the correct/right decision for him and his family, the man is being talked about as being the #1 pick this year in the draft not just the #1 qb in the draft, instead of congratulating this man a native of Miami for making the correct decision, you hating on em, lol, typical of the imbeciles that claim they're UM fans these days.

We root for teddy b cause we know why he didn't come here, blame goldie and all that b.s. he was selling and don't think for one minute the other guys from the west didn't tell teddy dawg, go to louisville, this guy(moron #1) is phony and moron #2 is worst.

People claimed shannon played favorites, but the majority of those same people act like they don't see what goldie is doing is obvious, he's putting his inept friend above the program for 3 years straight and plans on doing it for as long as he's here.

It won't last long, nobody with common sense who keeps putting the money in will continue to see us not play defense. The one thing we could always do no matter what is play defense.

yes poor-poor jim gallo.....btw, notice 2 of shannons boys in the 2 deep roster at st louis (ray-ray armstrong & brandon mcgee)

lets see...both storm johnson & alex collins beats out duke johnson in rushing statistics.....but golden didnt think any of these guys could play ball......

when you think of it.....all the golden casualties should be thankful.....I hope morris has a good game...he deserves it.....

too bad golden wont have 2 top QB's handed to him on a silver platter next year......the free ride is over.....

ty randy shannon.....

isn't storm johnson playing in the famous fiesta bowl?

where is UM playing?......oh forgot, some beat up sh...t stadium....

Louisville's roster shows 28 players are from Florida, so even though they haven't looked the same since they beat themselves in a loss at home to a good UCF team, they will be pumped come Dec 28, especially Teddy and his receiving corps, and Coach Strong. We had better be able to hold onto the ball. This is a really big game for both programs.

Recount. Ooops! 37 players on Louisville's roster are listed as having come from schools in Florida.

If our defense is so bad, they why are we so high in the recruiting? Maybe the old U magic is pulling the recruits in. Does anyone think Louisville's Charlie Strong didn't badmouth Miami after Shannon got fired? It's all politics my friends.

The Canes will have a bigger problem than Teddy B. The UL defense is good and apart from one bad quarter against UCF, no one has dominated their D. They stuff the run, have two of the best sack artists in the game and their safeties and corners are Sunday guys. For the Canes to win, they will have to harass Bridgewater ALL NIGHT and find a way to move the ball consistently. UL's one weakness is the O-line.
It is young and banged up. Should be a good game.

Simple, perception right now is front and center, it was almost always a given we were going to play defense, the one thing that was a given was we were going to have team speed on defense. Now when you hear commentators calling our games, they'll say alot of things that use to be True about our defense but in reality are not, for instance they'll say "you can't run side-ways against Miami, they have to much team speed" how many teams this year did that on a consistent basis.

Right now it's perceived that we're still playing the old style of UM defense that dominated college football when the reality is, we got 2 morons taking us all the way back to a tom olivadotti 80's dolphins defensive scheme, and it's really a tragedy

Where did Golden say that Storm and Alex could not play ball?

Remember the comment above by "Defense..."? He showed the difference between FACT and OPINION. Your claim is not only not fact, but it is an unfounded opinion. We offered Storm Johnson, signed him, and he CHOSE to transfer. We offered to Alex Collins, and he CHOSE another school.

As for "beating out Duke in rushing statistics"
Duke 284 carries for 1867 yards, a 6.6 average and 16 TDs.
Storm 315 carries for 1641 yards, a 5.2 average and 16 TDs.
Collins 190 carries for 1026 yards, a 5.4 average and 4 (!)TDs.

So, Duke, in 31 fewer carries, gained 226 MORE yards than Storm did, And has 841 MORE yards than Alex Collins with 94 more carries. Collins will need to average 9 yards a carry in his next 94 just to catch up to Duke. Even IGNORING Duke's other contributions and their total yardage differential, looks like you are wrong, wrong, wrong.

We get it, you hate Miami, and with your school having no bowl game, you have a ton of spare time on your hands, but at least substantiate your claim once in a while.

The money is irrelevant. All ACC teams share equally including in the proceeds from the two BCS bowls.

Maybe Morris and the offense will win the game for d'o and goldie.

Probably will be a great defensive struggle with a score of 63-62 since we have premier, knowledgeable defensive coaches in goldie and d'o.

Miami is ready for the big leagues next year. Bring on FSU, OSU, Mich St., Aub, Ala, etc.

goldie and d'o are right now making up their excuses. Young players, out of position, free lancing, gonna hit the weight room, recruiting, ncaa problems held us back, injuries, cold weather in Orlando, everyone runs a 3-4 bend and break, prevent the win NO defense.

Now the opponent in the bowl game is known. Some people want to lie and say Louisville is not a tough win. Because Al Golden is not a competent coach. He makes lesser teams look tough, all the time. While others want to lie and state the fans that point out Al Golden's flaws are wrong. That they are against the players. When it is clearly the coach and those lying fans that are against the players.

Let Al Golden win this game and the liars will say he is a great coach. If he loses to an evenly matched team, there will be excuses for Al Golden.

This lack of holding Al Golden responsible is apparent. The liars that do it are not worth another word from me.

SeeUinOrlando, those Louisville defensive stats are skewed by how easy their opposition has been.

They faced one ranked team all season, UCF, even though they were unranked at the time of the meeting.

They allowed 446 yards, and 38 points to that UCF offense. They threw away a 28-7 lead wonce UCF "solved" that defensive scheme. And seince that game, even against weak opponents, that defense has steadily gotten worse. Here are the scores allowed in their last five games.

3, 10, 13, 17, and 24. See how it is trending worse?

Is their defense as porous as Miami's? No. By far no. But it is beatable, and it is getting worse as the season progresses.

But thanks for the info about the UL offensive line, glad to see that an 11-1 team has some weaknesses.

isn't storm johnson playing in the famous fiesta bowl?

where is UM playing?......oh forgot, some beat up sh...t stadium."

Where is the UFraud playing? Oh forgot, some crap intra-squad scrimmage in a beat up dump sewer plant stadium.

BWWWHAHAHAHAHA. You still suck, Pig.

I am truly looking forward to this game as a win-win.

Miami beats an 11-1 Louisville team that came a last minute drive away from playing in the BCS title game (as the only other undefeated team, they might have stayed ahead of a one loss Auburn), on the road, against a Heisman quality QB, while being an underdog, and it will shut up some of the hate spewed at this Canes team.

Miami loses, (and it likely will only lose if the defense fails), and there will be ZERO reason for Donofrio to retain his position. Even the most loyal Canes fan will have to accept that a change is needed.

Unlike some on here that root for Canes losses every week, and are currently 3-9 because of it, I will be cheering for a Canes win followed by a Donofrio resignation/taking on a Division 2 Head coaching position for the good of the team. That way it is the best of both scenarios.

Golden actually got a blessing. He would have had two more losses in bowl games attached to his resume. I like golden but his dc has to go!

let's just wait till December 28th at about 945 and see what happens??? we all know our defense is horrible we all know that Louisville is going to score points.... this looks like Pittsburgh remake to me.....

five titles...where do you get your figures from?......good try

ncaa final rushing statistics - 12-9-013

#41 - Alex Collins: 190 carries for 1026 yards and 4 TD's
#44 - Storm Johnson: 193 carries for 1015 and 11 TD's

#59 - Duke Johnson: 145 carries for 920 yards and 6 TD's

good try green pea....I'll say it again...duke johnson is way over rated.....he is only good against scrub teams....as soon as he faces ANY team with a winning record he collapses....

andre william: 323 carries for 2102 yards and 17 TD's...thats a real NFL back

lucky UM didn't play BC...add another loss

I suggest you look around pea....look at the ncaa stats, watch top bcs teams and you'll see how FAR BEHIND UM is....the only way UM gets in the fight is to get a big name game changer in here.....gruden/meyer/carroll type.....

these temple guys will just bury UM more...you'll see

L'Ville had a schedule that rivaled only OSU in softness. The two best teams they played put up almost 900 yds on them. Attack the facts trolls, I'm not worried.

"Florida will bury UM....You'll see."

The genital wart-covered maggot, Jim Gallo, on Sep. 5, 2013.

He also posted about seeing Steve Walsh throwing passes to Andre Johnson so, you know, consider the Pig's source.

duke johnson is not a closer.....same thing last year he gets a little hurt.....he cant carry the season because he is too small....he doesn't have the physical endurance like a andre williams, Ka'Deem carey or tre mason......

he is not a 300 carry back....thats a problem for UM and frankly who even knows after this injury whether he will be the same? We lost danny dillard so outside of edwards UM does not have a big back.....

2014 will be disastrous....

@Calvin Time to put on your your red hair, red nose and big floppy shoes and dress to impress your friends. LOL

Definition of Turncoat: a person who deserts one party or cause in order to join an opposing one.

As Mark Twain once said, "Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."

"five titles...where do you get your figures from?......good try"

It's this website called ESPN. You should use it sometime. See the value that says career stats.

Notice his passing TD and 2 return TDs for a total of 19, as well.

Your comment did NOT say "in 2013". But even with Duke playing in only 7/12 games this year versus their playing in 12 games, they gained only 106 yards in 45 more carries, and 95 in 42 more carries. Duke STILL averaged one yard more per carry than they did. If he had played those final four games, he gains more than 106 yards, and your weak claim is STILL wrong, wrong, wrong.

I hope we beat Louisville.

I believe Bridgewater will tear us up. He is a really great player. Yah their schedule sucked, but the kid can play.

Combine that with our woeful defense, clueless DC, and we better score a lot to stay in the game. Morris needs to have a consistently stellar performance.

Enough about potential already.

Go Canes.

Gallo, you tried that lie last year, that he did not finish last year, in his last four games he went for 100, 150, 66, and 176, AND five touchdowns, so you were proven wrong then, and rehashing a lie does not make it come back to being true.

Duke finished strong last year, and if he had not been injured, would have finished strong this year. He averaged 123 yards last year in those last four games, and if he had done that in just ONE of those games, would have had more total yards than your current straw men Collins and Storm. And since those last four games included Duke, Virginia, and VT both years, it is likely his performance would have been the same.

Is there any kind of defensive performance that can get dno fired like Clemson dc getting after just one poor bowl game or are we hopelessly stuck with dno no matter what? I'm torn bc I want us to win but if there if giving up 60pts and 600 total yards gets dno fired I would rather take the loss for

We cheer for the name on the front, not the name on the back. If Bridgewater chose to worship one particular coach, that was his choice, and as has been said here many times before, the team is more than just the coach.

He was never a Cane, so he is just another player that we offered but chose another team. Do we still worry about all the other players that went on to other teams? Nope. And should not in this case either.

Is Burns a turncoat for changing teams? Nope, because he didn't. Those that left the team, transferred after they saw they would not make the top of the depth chart, they COULD be called turncoats, IF they jumped to a regular opponent, but Marve, Storm, and the others did not jump to VT, FSU, or UNC, so they are not turncoats, either.

Bridgewater cared more about the coach than the team, and made his choice based on that. It was HIS choice to make. Like LeBron James, Bridgewater was a free agent, and had the right to do it. Let's wish a local kid that did well for himself luck in the NFL, representing the 305, but hope that he has a rough game against Miami.
