UM Canes recruit Brandon Powell disappointed in bowl, but "excited'' about reporting to UM on Jan. 8

ORLANDO -- I just got off the phone with University of Miami recruit Brandon Powell, a four-star running back who played for Deerfield Beach High School. Powell is graduating early to report to the Canes on Jan. 8th so he can start college and participate in spring practice.

He said he has cleared through the NCAA and just needs to get a copy of his transcript from DBHS after the winter break ends.

"I’m really excited because I start college soon and just to be on campus and get an early start, that can really help me,'' Powell told me. "It’s really beneficial. I get to learn the plays early, get a lot of reps, get bigger and faster."

Powell said he's 5-9 and weighs 170.

Powell watched the game on TV with his dad and grandmother.

"They started off the first series and it was good,'' he said, referring to the safety that occurred when Deon Bush sacked Teddy Bridgewater. "I was pumped up. But they couldn’t move the ball on offense and I thought ‘what’s happening?’ I thought they were going to crank it up after halftime but they just couldn’t do anything.’’

Despite the disappointing  loss, Powell said he can't wait to begin his upcoming career with the Hurricanes.

"I committed to Miami because I feel like I can get on the field and play,'' Powell said. "After watching the bowl game and knowing that Duke [Johnson] is out, I feel like even more I can go out and help."

Powell, who said he also visited Tennessee, West Virginia and Nebraska, said he was most comfortable with the UM staff and players. He said he's "looking forward to learning from Duke Johnson and Dallas Crawford."

What message would he like to give to fellow recruits who were upset after the bowl game?

"Al Golden knows what he’s doing. He’s getting all those kids from South Florida. He’s getting the program back.

   "Coach Golden plays freshmen."

Yes I said 10 yrs. Its no coincidence that's how long Shalala has been here.

I was at hundreds of games in the OB. For almost 40 years. I never remember a Zook on the roster. But you did say, on the field, so that could mean a lot of things, even cheerleader.

where have I heard all this before?

MH, same bat channel, same bat time. It seems after each season we do read these same things don't we? The sad part, nothing changes but the names.

You claim I made generalizations, which is laughable.

My point as to the type of fan you truly are were succinct and accurate. YOU ARE NOT A FAN BUT A BANDWAGON RIDER...WHEN THINGS GET TOUGH YOUR TYPE QUITS!!!

Jimmy Johnson revolutionized college football in the mid 80's by using a 4-3 attacking downhill defense. At the time most teams were using a 3-4. By making OLB's DE's and S's into LB's he put speed all over the field on defense. Every coach soon copied thereafter. Only 3-5 teams in the country can recruit true 3-4 type of players. This where Goldy & D'no continue to show they're lack of coaching. These coaches want big slow space eating type of players instead of strong, fast, attacking players. U Tough program is a joke.

Btw we don't call it the Bowl, we call it the Ol Girl

Btw after Butch brought us back to national prominence we loved Butch and were upset that he left, Coker was run off for getting progressively worst, Shannon was let go after a disappointing 7-6 season, and that ugly lost to USF. You obviously know nothing about Canes football or history. Modern day Canes football started with Schnelly and we have been relevant since then, u are so damn clueless.

Zook never addresses what you say, just enjoy mocking him, the whole blog is laughing at him, because you know he's the greatest blogger ever. Dude said he was on the field! Lmao. Somebody copy that statement please so we can throw it in his face for laughs.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

How do you pack so much sheer stupidity into so few sentences...seriously, you have a future as a carnival sideshow barker.

You don't need to copy my factual statement stupid, it is posted for those who can read on this very thread that I was on the field while you little girls were trying to find a parking place at the Bowl.

You are a coward and I even intimidate you on a blog, which is hilarious!! Boo!! Laughing my arse off at you!!

Lmao, intimidate me, oh oh here comes the Internet tough guy that was on the field at the Ol girl.....wait I mean the bowl. Lol!

Please keep talking....who's afraid of the big bad Zook?! Raise your hand, I'll wait.

Zook was on the roster of his NCAA football game.....lmfao!

The next step forward is gonna have to take place next season. The iffey part of it all is the O-line is gonna be young and the QB position is gonna be LESS than battle tested. If we keep the Cali QB he should be our guy. Olsen looks good but, the Cali kid looks all the part of the cali QB that will come to the U and SHINE!! The D-line needs to step it up..scheme or whatever, pressure needs to improve. All D coaches need to look in the mirror and self check that A@%... We need to be dogs on that side of the ball""

Btw "AFTER" Butch brought us back to national prominence we loved Butch and were upset that he left

^^^^^^^^^^

One more thing stupid, you say you loved Butch 'AFTER' he brought the program back to national prominence. But, you screamed that he should be fired during the seasons he was rebuilding the program, proving you don't know jack shyt about football. It was your cowardice and stupidity that contributed greatly in Butch's decision to leave the Canes and join the Browns as he knew you nimrods would be screaming he knew nothing and should be fired if he were to lose a couple of games in any one season. You dunces cost the Canes at least 2 more National Championships and you are in the process of doing the same thing regarding Al Golden that proves morons like yourself NEVER learn from their countless mistakes.

I never called for Butch's firing because you could see his coaching acumen, unlike these current coaches. Try again NCAA playing geek! Lmao! "I played at the bowl" lmfao

Are you a woman? I know I'm not afraid of you and reading your gobblygook makes it clear you are afraid of Zook.

Ooooookay I'm afraid of somebody behind a keyboard, you realize how stupid you sound? Lol! And that's all you got, calling somebody a woman? Try again. See y'all at "the Bowl" lmfao

I think we will be worse next season. Lots of freshman are going to get playing time and they will lack experience and physicality.

First year starter at qb and a new oline.

Dnofrio...nuff said.

Chud on the Black Monday list.. Bring him back at a huge capacity..

That little girl, 'Is it football season yet', has her panties in a bunch. Mommy still makes her pee-pee in the girls restroom with her. I've got the twat so scared she doesn't know what to do next. BOO!!!!

Lmfao! Listen to you guys, scared of what exactly? This ish is hilarious. Oh no you typed another comment, I'm so scared......lmfao! I love Internet tough guys but not as much as I love your $2 mother, is she still working Biscayne? Lmfao@ the bowl.......

Why do people keep talking about Auburn or USC like we can compare with them? Avg recruiting ranks last 4 years:

UM:19
USC: 4.25
AUB: 10

It's easy to have a quick turnaround when you're pulling in stud classes year after year. Considering the '10 class essentially disappeared, the numbers are even more deceiving.

CinciCane Fan,
I agree with you. Any true football fan knows that the star system is overrated as regards saying a player is going to be a sure fire stud. I do believe it does have some credibility when it comes to having a program made up of 90% 4 and 5 star players like USC and 'Bama have. I believe that it gives you more leeway in case you recruit a player who is a bust and I believe it really also helps you depth wise.

Now again with UM's issues, I believe Coach Golden takes too many risk in recruiting players that are "projects" more than going after all out "stud" players. This current class looks like they have more "studs" than "projects". Hope fully the majority of guys are like Mr. Powell and will stick and look at yesterdays embarrassing loss as more of an opportunity to play right away. We will see.

Susan:

Happy holiday season.

Do you have a list of all the recruits who plan to enroll in January?

What capacity? Love Chud, but he's a TE and could be an OC possibly, but we really don't need that, and he's probably not going to go from an NFL HC to a position coach.

LMAO. Did y'all just figure out Zook/Just the facts and whatever else names she use is a lady?

I think CAG deserves 1 more year before we can really see where the program is headed. Problem is we will have a 1st year starter as our QB, but guess what FSU had the same issue and many schools have 1st year starters who come in and play well and lead their programs to very good years.

We also have a favorable schedule next year where we get FSU and UNC at home. Tough road games will be Va Tech and OOC against Nebraska (Nebraska should be a very winnable game). Again, I am not ready to throw CAG out with the bath water yet and we all know he is not letting D'Nofrio go. Problem I had with yesterdays loss was after 1 month to prepare, the team looked horrible. I would say it was the worst that they looked all year. At least against FSU, Duke and Va Tech, the offense played a decent game. In all reality yesterday the offense played worse than the defense. The defense played "decent" till the middle of the 3rd quarter and they reverted back to their old ways. CAG and his staff have got to do a better job of having the players ready to play.

Lastly, CAG and the staff have to do a better job of making in game and halftime adjustments. The mark of a good coach is in game and halftime adjustments. When a team shows you something that you were not prepared for after seeing it for 2 quarters, a good coach and coaching staff is able to come up with some type of adjustment to either neutralize or slow down the formation or play(s) that they did not prepare for. That is what a good coach and staff does. This staff did not do this on Saturday night and honestly, I can't remember them ever really doing so.

Still no sign of Mahorney Pearson.

Zook, picking up trash after the game doesn't count. Lots of people who work temp jobs did that. Doesn't mean they know football. Your consistent blogging the same lies doesn't mean anything. Golden will be right beside your namesake in a few years, when the contract gets closer. He is secure only because of that, but he will be unemployed in a few years. No way even D Shalala will be able to save him, when the same team with different names is fielded years from now, with the same results, just like your blogs. Golden and yourself, lie enough to be Pres. and VP of the country. He is a loser, just like Zook is(was).

Little girl don't be intimidated and resort to your various screen names to support your nonsense. I didn't mean to scare you! My 3 years of playing in the Orange Bowl was fantastic and while us men were battling you were trying to find a parking place...too funny!!

It must be tough always going through life as a spectator--never a participant. Hey, look over there...free parking! Laughing at you!!

Calvy told us how terrible Miami's defense is and is always reminding us of last year's 116th ranking, but last night FAU only had 170 total yards and 6 points against our Canes starters. This will probably have the Canes ranked in the top 20 of all defenses in the country and possibly as high as the top 10. If that happens standby for Calvy and his many aliases to tell us why that doesn't matter.

Once again Big Al Golden has been proven to be right...Mark D'Onofrio is a helluva defensive coordinator.

just the facts/bonnie zook, this helps me understand your need to cut and paste other people thoughts because this is what happens when you attempt to type your own thoughts.

Mahoney showed up and admitted we were outplayed and out coached. He is definitely more man than Zook the Gator who keeps railing about Butch Davis and how people treated him??? when I and many other loved Butch. its just another deflection attempt the walls of excuses and systematic mediocrity are crumbling. Cincycane, 360 and the rest--just find another team, we are awake now and your defeatist "process" is unnecessary and exposed! follow the your Lord and Savior Golden to PSU and indoctrinate their fan base with these corporate outlooks and projections (PSU is used to man worship and putting a man before the program--ala the Paterno debacle. We got some Canes over here...skitdaddle...kick rocks!

MovingZen, yes I have been to a game this season.

And grey is the color of indecision and the mediocrity exhibited by UM this last 10 years. GOH! kick rocks.

Man it's wishful thinking that Pedo state will take this bum off our hand. Leave it to his agent to parlay that lie into another extension. No one wants a .500 coach when so many proven winners are out there.

Mahoney showed up and admitted we were outplayed and out coached

HTC,

Okay, good to hear. Was interested to hear his prospective.

*perspective*

If the Browns are stupid enough to fire Chudzinski, then come on home brotha!

Sadly true True Cane!

sorry zook, wrong again. Delandcane has been my screen name for quite a few years now, said some dumb things, some good things, but one thing is for sure, your not ron zook.

You poor little girl...why are you so frightened that you have to use so many different screen names? Best of all...I am so in control of you, you are thumbing through 4 months of my comments and then doctoring those comments. Do you have any worldly idea how terminally pathetic that makes you?? Now run along and find a parking place as us men are in the Bowl playing ball...laughing hysterically at you!!

Playin' ball or playin with?

One thing about the internet. You can tell all the lies you want but here's the original link. Now you realize how stupid your comments were you don't even want to claim them anymore. Good thing Miami Herald has an archived section. LMAO. Like Alverage Golden tongue say " we own it" you need to own your words.

Wow zook,
I even told you I didn't want or need to call you names, or get into your personal life; I just beat your arguments.

Who said I quit? You seem to get pretty riled up when you perceive that others put words in your mouth, yet you seem to have no problem doing so for others.

I hope we see decommits, 4-8 seasons for the next two years, and AG gets run off...so the program can get a real coach. I have done so because we are apparently stuck with Ag and DNO for at least two more years of this being outcoached in every big game.

Note how there are others on here who can admit the problems and advise that AG needs to make some real decisions, while pointing out the player/situational deficiencies without resorting to the antics...

Your emotional investment is almost admirable.

LOL

You guys are dreaming if you think chud is going to come here as an oc. He ciuld easily be an nfl oc, so we'd offering a serious downgrade. Now if we made him head coach, different story.

Browns are stupid for firing chud. Do they not realize that they are the browns?

One or two people make a comment and you start an invalid point. Just like this previous inaccurate comment.

If I read this comment section correctly all current commits must be leaving now that we lost a meaningless bowl game and we are going out to hire an all new staff.

Posted by: CinciCaneFan | December 29, 2013 at 01:46 PM

It was overlooked on this comment. But you continue to post blatantly inaccurate comments. You contribute a few people to a lot. And overstate comments posted.

LOUISVILLE JUST SCORED AGAIN !!!

You say you haven't quit the team, then follow that comment hoping we will have decommits and 4 and 8 seasons. If that's how a Miami fan thinks, then I don't want to meet those who are rooting for the Canes to fail.
