Very cool idea: Miami Hurricanes will open first five bowl practices to public. Will you be there?

(PLEASE NOTE THAT UM HAS CHANGED THIS SUNDAY'S PRACTICE TO 11 A.M. UNTIL 12:45 P.M. (ORIGINALLY WAS FROM 3 TO 5 P.M.)

It has been a very long time since Miami has opened a string of practices to the public, so it's great to see that the Canes will open their first five bowl practices, beginning this weekend and continuing next weekend.

What do you think? Will you make it to any of the practices? Bring your kids (or parents) or grandkids?

You can bet there will be no secrets unveiled during those practices, but what a great way to bring fans into their world during a festive time of year.

Here's the release:

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes football team will open its first five bowl practices to the public. Miami (9-3, 5-3 ACC) will begin bowl preparations this weekend as the Hurricanes gear up for its first bowl game since 2010.

The Canes’ final three open bowl practices will be Fri., Dec. 13 (5-7 p.m.); Sat., Dec. 14 (1-2:45 p.m.); and Sun., Dec. 15 (1-2:45 p.m.). All five practices will be held at Cobb Stadium adjacent to the GreenTree Practice Fields.

For practices Dec. 7-8 and 14-15, fans can park in any of the green, gray and yellow lots near the Hecht Athletic Center and Cobb Stadium. For the Fri., Dec. 13, practice, fans can park in the Ponce Garage. Those attending the open practices must enter Cobb Stadium through the entrance along San Amaro Drive.

SunnyDeed, how do you know the coaches have not been aboe to make the best of what they have. You sound as if this team was an 11 win team.

They were at best a 9 win team therefore the coaches got the most out of them. Don't believe me? How many Canes on the ACC first team defense? One. Just one.

What in the he!! Does Morris' and duke's injury have to do with the defensive philosophy and scheme give up over 500 yards and 40+ points to below average offenses???

Not a D thang (Smokey from Friday voice).

No players on 'efense miss significant time, they were all experienced, supposedly stronger, and better conditioned but still at the end of the season had tire tracks up one side and down the other of their arses!!

Look maybe the Mac staff can change their MO one 'efence but they've shown to be stubborn and arrogant as he!! so I doubt it!!

No way Shannon would have or could have had this number of quality recruits.

Cool cane has hereby been BANNED from this blog forever. You are a dummy, cool cat. No. You are UNCOOL cat. hating on Ken Dorsey? Are you friggin serious? Even if you dont like the kid (obviously bc he is white), Have some respect for the fact that he was a cane, and THE starting QB for what is widely considered the BEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM OF ALL ---ING TIME! You think jacorry could have gone 39-2 as a starter?

What about kenny kelly? Think he could have gone 39-2? I suppose you blame the Ohio State loss on Dorsey- as well as giving up the 4th down and 14 conversion, and the phantom pass interference call.
I suppose Dorsey didnt get the ball to Shockey all the while getting body slammed, to bring miami back from defeat against FSU in 2000.

Go away- you, chump cane, D, calvin. All you losers have some hateful non cane agenda-
GTFOH with your junk

The issue is depth. Duke healthy or a capable back-up and we are 11-1 with ACC championship on the line.

Chit, this particular Hurricane good ol' boy SOUNDS like another canespace RAT! Nothing more, nothing less.

No wonder the VAST MAJORITY of Miami, Florida fan-dom be your quite ordinary BANDWAGON, FAIR WEAHTHER sort. dUh

Rofl, remember, we didn't beat duke because they had more depth than us this year according to the goldie slurpers. Last year duke scored 45, this year they scored 48, when we won last year our depth brought up, naw, goldie told yall we have alot of young guys on defense last year that had to grow up, so we comeback with a more veteran defense and than get lit up for 48points, now the excuse is, "we're not back we need to build more depth".

How much is Chris Freet paying for an hours worth of apologist posts these days?

Dudes are scrambling in full PR excuse mode.

Ok ok we believe U...enough already.

There were no individual honors nor team accomplishments by the defense because its coordinator and coach put the players in positions to not make plays. Denzel made it because he was able to be a sure tackler *after* those 10-15 yard gains.

The 2001 team almost lost to BC and was losing to Temple going into the 4th quarter--talent still decided those outcomes, but it proves that coaching does matter and can offset its (talent's) impact both in a positive and negative way.

These above games were warning signs and they culminated to the next season NC game where Jim Tressel out-coached Coker who had an All-Star team again--maybe the best in history.

We were way more talented than OSU that year, so how did we lose that NC game? And don't say we got out toughed as if toughness doesn't directly resonate from the coaching staff--via mental, physical, and emotional preparation plus the players *belief* that that scheme and game-plan they have been given is going to work if they execute it (also known as "buying in"). OSU flew around that day like bats out of hell, because they KNEW (not thought) their plan was superior to ours.

Coaching affects the passion and intensity in which kids perform.

Stop making excuses for a 2 million dollar and a 500 thousand dollar man who said themselves that they didn't need long to have UM back to NC contention annually.

They said, no excuses

They said, this year's team was well-conditioned, had depth, and was physically ready to win the Coastal.

They said, that the NCAA investigation didn't hamper day to day operations.

Why are some saying something different now.

And if this was a great season and the Canes met all tour expectations, then why all of the excuse posts to validate what U describe as "progress"?

Next Man Up is the author of the Golden Pledge of Allegiance--so I'm not surprised in the least.

Man, you are right. I remember all those interviews early on with Golden Tongue raving about how 'big" the LBs looked and that Chick was lifting so much and looking so strong. Turned out it was a bunch of BS. Save fpr Perryman the rest of the LBs sucked and Chick got manhandled and spit upon all the time.
Excuses are for loosers and Golden kool aid slurpers.

Hey Canes fans and the more numerous non canes fans. Long time no talk.

Just getting back on my financial feet so got a phone and internet access. Couldn't wait to say howdy.

I lost everything back in mid September when I bet the house on texas AM in their Alabama game. That feller D told me to do it and said it was a DUH lock. I thought that meant they would win with all the points I got.

I reckon I should have figured out that anyone who couldn't hardly write shouldn't be listened to when it came to the house. DUH.

How'd we do when I was gone?

Zakkee, losing to Temple into the start of the fourth quarter was in 2002, and it was Rutgers if I recall correctly, never Temple, and especially not Duke. The going rate for school funded Ganes fans comments is a redneck cup of coffee and a nickle, which is twice as much as they're really worth.

THE WORST POSTER IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL RELATED BLOGGING is back to spam the blog with more irrelevant scroll by clutter, reminding everyone that Alverage wants to claim a career defining victory over the worst team a program fielded in 34 years, and that he can't keep his excuses for his favorite shower spigot straight when he's got a moron from the Penn State school of Sandusky moves shaking it off on him. Maybe he'll hope that nobody goes to the police and he can cash in at a later date for his pederast predicaments he surrenders too on a daily basis from the losers from the MAC?

Sounds like the joke remains on him all along because, as a Ganes fan, he never understands.

It is unbelievable that people can complain about a university that is reaching out to them. Yes, performance has been frustrating at times, but the team is progressing.

I am proud of the U. However, for the first time in my life, I am ashamed of the fan base.

You should have been ashamed of the 350 yards rushing put on the Mac staff by a team that averages 150 yards a game with an average of 2.5 stars in recruiting.

Or that Logan Thomas' draft stock rose when he play UM and fell the very next game in 2 of the last 3 years.

Or that more than half the teams out squad played had season high totals against our guys.

Or that for 2 years straight the d was dead lastin the conf and all AG does is cover for his boy. All the while his bestie throws the players under the bus!

That's what you should b ashamed of.

Mike - for the first time in your life you are ashamed of the fan base? Because many diehard fans of the team are critical of the defensive approach?

You must be pretty young because Canes fans have done much worse in the past. They called for Butch's firing when the team was on probation. They paid for a plane to fly over the stadium calling for Shannon to be fired. Did you ever attend a game at the Orange Bowl and witness first hand how most fans behaved? Snorting coke in the bathrooms, starting fights. Even at Joe Robbie there are fights at nearly every game.

There has been plenty to be ashamed of in terms of Canes' fans both in the past and present. However, constructive criticism of the team should not make you feel ashamed. In fact, you will see similar criticism at times from fans at nearly every major college program (including Florida, Alabama, Ohio State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, etc...).

But the defensive atrocity the MAC staff unleashed on UM would just be fixed if it wasn't for those fans pointing out the fact that they sucked so much. Don't you understand? Or are you not a real Ganes fan?

It's obvious you're not Ganes fans, you understand that the Hurricanes need to get better coaches than what they settled for three years ago when the worst AD in program history made a rush move to cover his tracks on his way out the door ahead of the NCAA posse that had so much evidence to corroborate the stories they were investigating they had to break the law in order to try and pursue the case.

How those Gators doing?

Wow Manny how cool! So cool to have practice open to the public. Wow Susan, what a great idea! Where do I sign up. When is the next practice. Hope is not tomorrow, I have too wash my car and go to Publix. Maybe the day after, no wait, I have to go to the movies and to Pollo Tropical. How about this weekend. No wait, I have to watch NCIS reruns and buy a lotto ticket. Oh well it was such a cool idea anyways.

Duke was picked to finish last in the division. Goldilocks and his shower buddy are a joke.

Looks more like the folks who predicted Duke to finish last are a joke.

AverageCane, while the practices are open and no $ is charged there is a little test. You need to once in a while get the to/too/two correct. So, you're out.

Looks more like the folks who predicted Duke to finish last are a joke.
########################################################################

No the writers who follow the ACC assessed the talent and determined that Duke would finish last. What they didn't take into account was Cutliffe's ability to get the most out of his players. Stop making excuses for the worst defense in the ACC

This blog is full of
gaytors
semenholes
suckeyes

and the rest are chump a55 jive turkeys who hate Golden bc he is white.

Yeah, Miami has a crappy defense- butso does texas A&M and so does Oregon. So does the whole Pac 12 as a matter of fact.

But Miami hsa gotten better in some ways. And with this recruiting and getting the final remnants of Shannons garbage recruiting, the dawn of a new Miami era is approaching.

MIAMI WILL WIN ITS BOWL. REGARDLESS OF WHO THEY PLAY. THEY WILL FINISH 10-3 AS MANY HERE PREDICTED (I PREDICTED 10-3 AFTER LOSING THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIP- I THOUGHT CLEMSON WOULD BE UNBEATABLE THIS YR), AND THEN I PREDICTED A BOWL WIN FOR 11-3.

THAT IS AN IMPROVEMENT, UNLESS YOU GENIUSES CANT SEE THAT.

Are we cane fans happy that UM is 9-3? No. But it sure beats 7-5. With that #2-3 recruiting class, these canes will make a statement in the next 2, 3-4 yrs!!!!

SEC is ................and top heavy/////////////////

I totally agree with your post. Makes me wonder what team would ever make any of these clowns happy.
Chronic complaining about a team that is in a rebuild mode is just B*******.

Some people like to read their dribble, others repeat the same points to no effect.

Support the team or just choose to go to Publix, wash your car, or watch reruns of CSI, live your life. The 'Canes fans can agree to disagree, but some on here are beating a DEAD horse.

Realize for once the 'Canes will easily go on without your support. The team is much bigger than your disapproval.

As Tracy said: " We don't listen, because many of those fans really don't know football".

Morons who haven't a clue.
Go 'Canes

We had more talent thsn OSU, but our offensive line got whipped by their defensive line. That and a double team on Andre Johnson disrupted our offense. We didn't adjust until the 4th quarter and then McGahee got injured.

We lost that game when OSU coverted on 3rd and 15. I think that was in one of the OTs.

Tressel completely outcoached our staff.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE ALL A-TIZZY OVER THE 9 & 3, BOWL BOUND CANES ACC DEFENSE RANKING--READ THE "FACTUAL" EXCERPTS BELOW FROM TWO COLLEGE FOOTBALL EXPERTS. OF COURSE A SEGMENT OF YOU WILL NEVER ACCEPT THE FACTS AND CONTINUE TO MOAN AND WHINE, WHILE ATTACKING COACHES GOLDEN AND D'ONOFRIO:

"Ask just about anyone who has played football at the “U” and they will all explain how “void of talent” this program was when Golden arrived. This program had deteriorated to the point that the once flowing pipeline to the NFL had dried up."

"The Hurricanes were “supposed” to win the Coastal Division and reach the ACC title game this year—not because talent, depth and experience proved so, but simply because folks have grown tired of waiting and the drought has gone on long enough."

"For those who continue beating the drum that Miami “should” be back, the question remains, based on what?"

"Coker was tossed the keys to the hot rod he eventually totaled and Shannon set it on fire it. Golden was then given a can of Bondo and a running clock regarding getting it race-worthy again—and not enough folks see that as unfair."

"Golden hustled to save the 2011 recruiting class—which had only four verbal commits when Shannon was let go the previous December. By February, 19 kids joined the Miami program, though the class reeked of last-ditch effort as a new leader had less than two months to sell, close and deliver."

"Ryan Hill never lived up to the hype on the field, but soon as his playing days were over, called it like it was in eye-opening fashion. Hill went on to explain that Golden had inherited “a massive problem” regarding a culture of insubordination and a bunch of pot-smokers more interested in a sideline snowball fight, than the fact that Notre Dame was pummeling Miami in a mid-tier bowl game. Two months after Hill’s revelation, Charles Robinson and Yahoo! Sports dropped an atom bomb and began spinning jailhouse tales from a jaded Ponzi-schemer intent on destroying the Hurricanes’ football program. Hello NCAA investigation. Somewhere in those two-plus years that dark cloud hovered over “The U”, this fan base forgot how scared-straight it was in back in August 2011 when the news was first delivered."

Whether Nevin Shaprio was speaking truth or falsities, perception was reality, the media was screaming “death penalty” and a program damn-near life support looked like it was falling in the abyss. Forget ultimate success, BACK THEN MOST OF US WERE HOPING UM WOULD MERELY SURVIVE!

From begging and pleading two years ago that Miami would live to see another day, to a sense of entitlement that these Hurricanes should again be a contender—just like that, with little attention paid to the past half-decade of disaster and mediocrity. How soon we forget."

"IN ALL THE FAN-FUELED FRUSTRATION, WHERE IS THERE REGARD FOR THE 36 PLAYERS WHO LEFT THIS PROGRAM BETWEEN 2010 AND 2012, RECRUITED EITHER BY A COACH WHO DIDN’T KNOW BETTER, OR A NEW ONE FORCED TO TAKE CHANCES AS HE NEEDED BODIES AND HAD FEW OPTIONS?
This impatience, know-it-all approach and frustration feels a whole lot like fifteen years ago, when Pell Grant fraud rocked this program and frustration was also at an all-time high."

"THOSE THROWING BARBS AT GOLDEN AND DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR MARK D’ONOFRIO ARE EFFECTIVELY THE SAME GROUP WHO TRIED TO RUN BUTCH DAVIS OUT OF TOWN IN THE LATE NINETIES."

More excuses for three years of poor play on defense. Goldilock's relatives are on a tear trying to explain how we got beat by the same five plays for three games straight. Texas let go of their DC and improved immediately......gtfoh! Goldilocks and his shower buddy are a joke

We have the worse dc in the acc and if golden can't see that or acknowledge that, then that's on him too. No matter what "real" fans say this team has more talent than to finish dead last in the acc.

How will Ron Zook and other real fans justify being dead last In the acc?

Great post responding to rboud, sunny dee. Very succinct.

Our defense has been pretty much the same all year. The same coordinator had the D putting the wham on a healthy UF and leading the nation in turnovers.. At one time people thought the offense was the liability when Morris was hurt. Go back to the day after UF and read those posts. Same clowns talking that hot garbage now were saying how good the D looked. Was he not responsible for that win? Now you wanna burn the D/C without acknowledging the lack of playmakers.

When A.J. Highsmith gets PT you know what it is: lack of talent/depth, and loyalty to seniors. What changed in the losses were fumbles, dropped passes, and missed tackles. I agree there are issues with the D-cord, but when you see players getting worked out of their shoes on 3rd down, while in a position to make a tackle, it becomes a talent issue. No question about it. Ray Lewis, Sean Taylor, john Vilma, Sean Spence make those plays, every time. Great players make plays. Great players catch the ball. Great players make tackles to get off the field on 3rd down.

Even former players believe the same thing. As a coach you put players in a position to make a play without being exposed.. Our defenders consistently took bad angles and missed tackles in third down situations that could have gotten the defense off the field. We lack overall defensive team speed, pass rush and tacklers.

We consistently get better recruiting classes than Duke, so what you're saying is the coaches don't teach the players to take proper angles and we don't do tackling drills in practice. Defense is about fundamentals, fundamentals is about coaching. And while the turnovers against UF were great, they gained close to 500 yards as well. It would be great if Goldilocks was the next great one, but he's not

UGoCane,

Yes, more talent would help. But something is missing here and I believe the coaching is not bringing out the full potential of some of our players. It is rigid.

Note the example of Rashawn Scott, unless there is something I don't understand about his situation. Why isn't this kid on the field? He busted his butt making a great catch when he injured his shoulder.

He's not practicing well enough? What kind of garbage is that?

This approach is stifling the natural spirit of some of our players by attempting to wedge it into a conformist model.

On the other hand, I love some of the Golden recruits like Stacie Coley, Tracy Howard, Deon Bush, Artie Burns, Ereck Flowers, Duke Johnson and others. Maybe more of that level of talent will give the program the boost we all hope for.

No, man, I didn't forget about the Muschamp post. However, I would take any change over the current DC, including the Mooseman himself.

I hope you are right about talent being THE key issue.

I believe the problem runs deeper as to coaching philosophy and how to guide kids with a naturally aggressive spirit on the field of play. Count hats to the ball for the D side for an indirect indicator of what some of our guys are feeling.

dbc:
I am reading you loud and clear!!!!.

I fully agree in fact I believe the talent we have coming in will help to really bring the D up to the potential of the O. We need bodies for depth also. Especially in the 4 th quarter.

Thanks.
Go 'Canes

Next man up, would you miss donofrio? I would miss Golden, he has done a good job, EXCEPT in allowing this defense to continue. I am not talking about 4-3 versus 3-4, and the other smoke screens the name changing fellow tosses out there. I mean, would this defense get WORSE under another coach? I can't see it getting worse, and I am willing to take that risk.

Remember, despite the fact that there is a gatr fan pretending to want The whole coaching staff eliminated, players removed, and an additional bowl ban, the reality is that this defense was poor, despite an offense and special teams that other than in the VT game protected it.

The fact the defense kept giving up late TDs, (not even FGs) is just a symptom of the passiveness of our DC.

I am called a Golden fan rather than a Canes fan for daring to point out positives about this team. But there is no positive for this DC, other than that he is loyal to his boss. At any job, that is not enough to keep a job, let alone a top management job like that one.

Auburn 3-9 last year, 11-1 this year (beating Bama) Why didn't they win last year, was it talent or inept coaching?

Miami has not won,in fact a bunch of hobbits and midgets wearing Duke uniforms beat Miami like a red head stepchild.

D CORCH is inept and him and AL Copper need to get the hell out of Miami before they take us under the bus (like they do to our players saying they are no good)

Shame on you Al Copper for taking sides with your inept and worthless Godfather D CORCH. You prefer to be immoral and keep D corch for Nepotism reasons.

BTW, canespace sucks!
