Canes making late push for Dillard athlete Randy Ramsey, South Dade WR CJ Worton

It's never too late to try and use your home field advantage.

And apparently that's what the Miami Hurricanes and Al Golden are doing with a week to go before National Signing Day.

According to Fort Lauderdale Dillard coach Lorenzo Davis, Golden and UM assistants swung by the school on Tuesday to visit recent Arkansas commitment Randy Ramsey. And now the 6-4, 210-pound senior is pondering whether or not to take a last minute official visit to UM this coming weekend.

"Right now he and his parents are thinking about it," Davis said. "We’ll know something by [Thursday] evening. I don’t think it would be a bad thing to take a visit.

"He likes Miami. They’re the hometown team. They offered him a while ago and were trying to get him to visit, but he never would. Nothing wrong with going to look and see what it's like. He has a chance now not to have any regrets. There’s no loss just to go."

The Hurricanes apparently hadn't been after Ramsey hard enough and he wanted to see more of an effort on their part, Davis said.

Ramsey earned All-Broward First Team honors by the Miami Herald this season after racking up 20 sacks as an undersized defensive end. His future position in college remains up in the air. He's played cornerback, linebacker and rush end in the past.

"I think a reason a lot of schools were kind of holding back was because they were trying to figure out what position he was going to play," Davis said. "I was telling them all from the get-go just take him as an athlete. He did some amazing things for us this season."

> Another local player UM is hoping to get a visit from on a late push is South Dade receiver C.J. Worton, who recently de-committed from Florida State and is now entertaining offers from Florida, West Virginia and the Hurricanes. He told 247Sports its likely he'll visit UM this weekend.

“Well, I really haven’t had much contact with them, until recently I started talking to coach [James] Coley again,” Worton said of the Miami offensive coordinator. “He’s the one that originally recruited me to Florida State, so I always had a real good relationship with him. He just asked me how everything is going, I guess he heard I decommitted."

“He’s always wanted to coach me and he said wherever he was, that’s where he wanted me to go there...He’s very trust worthy, I trust him a lot. I know he will take care of me wherever I go and I know he wants to run his office through me.”

Worton told 247 it's like UM will get his last official visit because he feels like he owes it to Coley and his father has always been a big UM fan.

"I think it would be cool to try to get him to go if I end up do going," Worton told 247Sports. "I feel like that would be really cool for him to get up there and see the coaches and see the facilities. Since it’s so close, it’s an easy trip. I’m tired of all these plane flights and everything.”

Worton caught 42 passes for 1,052 yards to lead Dade County this season. His teammate, receiver Tyre Brady, is a UM commitment. Worton capped his senior year by hauling in six catches for 159 yards and 3 TDs in South Dade's Class 8A state championship victory.

Now the last minute flurry begins. Good luck Canes!

Let Worton go to UF. We already have an undersized white WR in Braxton Honey nut Berrios and that kid is tough. Tore his ACL in that Under Armour game and played through it and even caught a TD afterwards. We need another game changer, not another possession wr. Go harder for Dupre or double down on Bo Scarbrough at RB. Time is running out.

We don't get any articles and then all of a sudden when the real CANES tell the truth about the dc that has no name then that article get sandwiched I between. Why didn't they let that article stay up? Championships and zook are no where to be found.lmao

Get everybody you can Al Golden. Then find a job somewhere other than Miami. We can find a winner for this program finally. Anyone can do a better job than Al Golden. Maybe not Will Muschamp, that guy is worst than Al Golden.

Exactly Tally!

Let's see....

A cane LEGEND is asked a question about the state of the defense, gives a honest answer that everyone knows is true, but muggs are mad b/c he didn't tow the company golden line.

Gthoohwtbs!!!

Lol

Sapp spoke like a true cane that loves his university!!! My grandparents call it "call a spade a spade"!!!

Now just imagine IF sapp would have gave the "I think Al is doing a great job, yada yada yada, Alfrauds appologist would have flood that blog post and we wouldn't have had another entry till national signing day!! Lol

Well surprise surprise surprise Tally, I am right here. All there was is Warren Sapp running his mouth about Golden and D'nofrio. I have no problem with the guy stating his opinion as he is entitled to it. But the thing with Sapp is he has since day one had some problem with Al Golden. Why I have no idea. And while Sapp was a great DT for us about twenty years ago, because of some personal animosity he has for Golden his comments are to be taken with a grain of salt. I don't believe anybody can truly say that they are or have been happy with the way the defense has performed. However it is trending in a positive direction. And only until they have had a chance to get their players in there and allow the system to be executed can any logical person make a true and fair assessment of the defense. This coming year will be a big one in seeing whether or not the defense is making the necessary progress. Now as for Sapp's comments back when he played there were no spread offenses like those of today, no bubble screens, so defenses such as the 46 defense, and the old 4-3 worked against conventional offenses, but in today's college football the rules and offenses are so much more advanced that its like comparing a 94 model to a 14 model car. Now if this was Ray Lewis well then, there would be more merit to these comments as all Ray has ever wanted to do is help his old school out in anyway. Plus Ray Lewis has and is a straight up guy who calls it like it is, leaves his personal feelings out of it and looks at the whole picture not just the first thing he sees.

I was willing to give Golden the benefit of doubt as I really liked what I heard from him. After this past season and the way he was ready to leave us hanging if Penn St offered, he and his BS DC D'Onofrio needs to go! Sapp told it the way it is and so did Duke and Dorsett last season before they were shutdown by Golden and company. Canes defenses have ALWAYS been an aggressive, attacking style of play. The DC gets a ton of the heat, but the truth is the defense is Golden's baby. I would let Golden go before D'Onofrio since Al refuses to see the error of his ways. Golden seems like a good guy and recruiter, but not a great leader or coach. Go Canes!

### 5 p.m. update: Warren Sapp ranted against UM defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio today, telling WQAM: "The D coordinator is killing my school. That looks like no Miami defense in the history of our school... Don't talk to me about Al Golden and whatever the d-coordinator's name is. You don't ever hire someone you can't fire. That's the golden rule."

A House Divided Against Itself CANNOT STAND !!!

And u are splintering against the weight of the truth.

The Old School In House Implosion hasn't just begun, it's caving in.

Thank you WARREN SAPP for having the foresight and BALLS to SOUND OFF !

Wheeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww, the recruits won't see that huh?

BuT nUffin to here riiiieet ye ol indenial cane clUcks ?

I don't understand why Al Golden cant visit every 4 star 5 star etc recruit personally in their so fl home when he has the luxury to do so??? It's very rare Jimbo or Saban Or Miles comes to their house in so fl. They do occasionally, i get it. Normally it's a OC or DC and various coaches below them. Fact, my neighbors's kid is a 4 star DE recruit for GT, trust me Paul Johnson has not and will not be going to his house, fact. Yes the D line coach did and he stays in constant contact. Yes he met PJ at GT for official visit. Again, tell me why Golden does not get into the So fl kids homes more? Does the NCAA police govern head coach in house visits? If not, golden and team should be in every top recruit's house. F ing period! No excuses! Use geography to your recruiting advantage!

championships is an idiot....you don't even know what real cane football is......

Sapp just supported what I have been saying since 2011 and you defended al golden all the way....stop ranting with your psycho-babble.....

Sapp takes aim at D'Onofrio, Golden, Canes defense
Everybody seems to have an opinion when it comes to Miami's defensive woes.

Wednesday, former Hurricane and Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp made a guest appearance on WQAM's afternoon show with Adam Kuperstein and Channing Crowder and took his turn ripping Miami's defense.

“Don’t talk to me about Al Golden and whatever that D Coordinator’s name is,” Sapp said.

“Don’t ever hire someone that you can’t fire. That’s the golden rule. The D Coordinator is killing my school. That looks like no Miami defense in the history of our school.”

Former Canes cornerback Phillip Buchanan then chimed in too on Twitter.

Thank you... The truth about Al folden

3:37 PM - 29 Jan 2014

Golden has defended D'Onofrio at every turn with Miami's defense and the last time he spoke with reporters in his end of the season wrap-up he did so again.

Here's a link to the Sapp audio on WQAM.

http://wqam.com/2014/01/29/warren-sapp/

So people are listening to loud mouth Warren Sapp. Mr. grumpy I have no money therefore he had to file bankruptcy. Hey, Sapp, why don't you learned how to take care of your finances before you tried to tell somebody how to do their job. You would think with all the weed this guy has done he would be a little more mellow.

driskell just had another turnover

### Four-star Hialeah Champagnat defensive tackle Travonte Valentine, whom UM covets, told me today he’s not sure he will take his scheduled visit to UM this weekend because of a “family situation.”

Valentine said he will make a decision on Thursday.

Is LSU still the favorite? “Something like that,” he said.

Kaaya is next to UCLA and then Chad Thomas to FSU or BAMA as they will both be making their final official visits to UCLA n BAMA this weekend.

Thanks Coach Golden. Hope you had a nice "visit" with your Penn. St. friends a few weeks ago. So what's the next step in the "process" ? Gonna flip some more 2-stars?

Chad Thomas is a lock huh ?

""" 5-star DE Chad Thomas ’1,000 percent’ committed to Miami but still interested in Florida State and Alabama.""" Jan. 29th, 2014- Bleacher Report

Maybe he'll only be 500% committed come Feb. 5th. and not flip.

This is going to be another signing day nitemare. Unreal.

Waren Sapp:

The same guy who danced around after every tackle or sack against Nebraska in1994 as UM built a 14-0 lead in the first half, buthe ran his mouth so much that he got tired and inthe second halfd was runover by their full back over and over and thus gave away Miami's national championship? That Warren Sapp?

Or the same Warren Sapp who yestrday also picked a fight with HOF nominee Michael Strahan who by the way owns the all time sacks record?

Warren Sapp has always had diarrhea of the mouth. He has no credibility and no class. Ray LEwis has class. Dan Morgan has class. GTFOHWYBS, Warren- go have another rib

[]_[]r Bleeeeding Bright Orange n Green ...

Try a Golden To[]_[]rniq[]_[]et ...

Thank U Warren. Golden asked the formers players to come back. We'll here you go, time to listen up to one of the GOATS. Enough already with this pathetic soft defensive scheme.

All the no'd deniers are great. So sapp criticizes your man crush and its sapp Sucks, hes a loud mouth etc....
What about p buch 31, d starks, d Smith 45 or Eric Winston to name a few former canes who have called out this garbage we've had on D the last few years?
I know, I know but Jordan futch said no'd is the greatest defensive mind since bill arnsparger. Even if s Spence didn't have his family tied up in golden's basement and wasnt forced/coerced into it, ill take the 4-5 legends opinions on defense.

here is what you look for.....cracks

#101 offense / VT 7-5....549 yards
#47 offense / Duke 10-2..543 yards
#89 offense / Virginia 2-10....483 yards
#97 offense / Pitt 6-6....501 yards

2011 - 4,319
2012 - 5,837
2013 - 5,537

Sapps comments are supported by facts....not to mention he is a cane legacy....but bloggers with blame either Sapp or the players for this staff's weakness's......

49-49.....that's goldens data....it will not deviate much from that ratio....8 years is enough time to establish a base of support for this opinion...

wish / pretend all you want.....UM goes nowhere, it is a statistical impossibility given their history and the upcoming playoff system and new entry's into the ACC

Chad Thomas is NOT a UM lock...tomorrow he will get an earful from Mario Cristobal.....

he can be turned.....just like Alex Collins was last year when he was 1,000 % committed to UM.....

Worton caught 42 passes for 1,052 yards to lead Dade County this season.

Now this clown is attacking Sapp. LOL Anybody but these Mac Morons.

One day prior they are screaming Valentine can be the next Sapp, now they say screw Sapp. LMAO

I believe these clowns are the gator fans posing as Canes. They refuse to see what's in front of them. Real Canes call it like they see it. You don't like it so what.

Where are the other apologists, I see they had nothing to post in regards to Sapp's comments. Where are the guys whom copied and paste all the comments from Tracy Howard and Highsmith trying to justify D'Clown.

And then this Coke Cane fellow is already blaming Sapp for recruits not coming. I could've sworn he was a Cane commit until Al Fraud flirted with Pedo State. But sure blame someone other then Al Fraud, no surprise, it's your forte.

^^^^^^

Kid sounds solid, reliable and QB friendly.

The defense is terrible, yes we know. Not nearly as good as our pedigre in that area and we need to be more aggressive. We have no pass rush. Our running game on 3rd and 2 was suspect even with Duke. Look at those past great defenses and tell me who the RB was. If you're on the field all day because teams grind you down while your offense gets 3 and outs, then yea it's gonna get ugly. especially when the talent level isn't up to UM standards.

We haven't been able to compete from a recruting standpoint in recent years. We're getting FSU and Alabama players to consider flipping to us now. When has that ever happened (aside from S. Coley) under AG in the last several years?

Local kids will want to be here. Trust me. It's just a matter of time. And with better talent and playmaking ability on the defensive line the entire D will be better. Will a better short-yardage running game the defense will be better. Football 101. I appreciate his sentiment, believe me, but Warren should come coach D line if he's that upset. Come recruit, do something.. At this stage he should get a screen-name because he sounds like some of the poeple that post here.

Chad Thomas is NOT a UM lock...tomorrow he will get an earful from Mario Cristobal.....

he can be turned.....just like Alex Collins was last year when he was 1,000 % committed to UM.....

You're an idiot Gallo 4. Chad is a music major and will be attending the Frost School of Music, which is in the top 5 of Music schools in the US. Bama can't touch that, and that's the feather we have in our caps.

And then this Coke Cane fellow is already blaming Sapp for recruits not coming. I could've sworn he was a Cane commit until Al Fraud flirted with Pedo State. But sure blame someone other then Al Fraud, no surprise, it's your forte.

Well genius, if you actually knew what you were talking about you'd know that TV had planned the LSU trip BEFORE any of the AG to PSU story was even thought about. Real Cane fans??? Are you F'ing kidding me?? Don't know who you are, one of the many who change their screen names EVERYDAY to make it sound as though they have people agreeing with them, but I've been blogging off and on this blog since 01, and a Caner since 79, so don't go telling me what a REAL Cane fan is. We ALL know our D needs a change and we ALL know that giving up 500 yds a game is ridiculous, but we also know we're stuck with them for now, and WE NEED RECRUITS. You DUMB MF'ers just seem to want to run off any recruit who thinks about Miami, and then pat yourself on the back like you've done a good job, and THEN call yourself a CANE FAN???

Posted by: THANK YOU WARREN SAPP ... TR[]_[]E CANE !!! | January 29, 2014 at 11:00 PM

Haha, funny Phillip.

We'll see about next season. I have confidence in their ability to recruit better talent and have them perform at a high level.

"Kinda hard to have a conversation with someone who's not informed about it"

-W. Sapp.

Best thing he said...

Oh, and one more thing. Donna, an avid soccer fan should get behind this MLS deal. Get an architectural gem like Marlin Stadium for soccer within metro distance and serve booze. Done deal.

If Sapp really cares so much about the U , he should have kept his comments till after signing day and not hinder the opportunity to get top recruits to the U. Regardless of what he thinks of the coaching staff, we need to get the talent to the U to stay competitive. If his heart is with the U as he claims, how about using his influence to get players here.

^^^^^^
This is what happens when you put the microphone in front of someone who has used too many drugs, and got hit in the head too many times. Sapp excellent player not a good voice to have.

Gallo has already predicted that Howard, Flowers and Duke were leaving. Did he mean after they graduated? After 3 years when the go to the NFL?

Just a mouf runner.

Feb 5 can't come fast enough. Gallo will be sitting on his couch with his pudd in his hand. Golden will be the coach. Recruits will be signed up. Oh, and Flowers, Howard and Duke will be in class in CG.

Sapp was an all time great. One of the best of a long list of great D tackles. He was no Jerome Brown, but was definitely top shelf.

I am a little worried about him, though. He's in a stage a life where one gets bored as the glory days stretch in the distance. Seems to be picking fights that are little more than cries for attention. Probably should keep a close eye on him.

There is a clear lack of truthfulness in Al Golden's fans. Never did any of them question the comments made by current players about their inferior coach.

Now, only when asked, did Warren Sapp state a fact, not an opinion, but a fact of the inferiority of Al Golden as a coach. If that was a rare piece of information, then there would be reason for concern. But it is clear, that Al Golden is an inferior coach, and it is clear since before he came to Miami.

Not one of these Al Golden fans can dispute that their leader is a complete failure as a coach. There is nothing that exist that can show his success on the football field. And that is the reason for their greatest dislike of the truth about their leader's failure as a coach.

no this is what I was saying about flowers / duke and howard...

More on Duke | Nov 4th

His surgery was today, I'll get a read out from sources later but here's a big chunk on Duke. But I had a long talk with someone close to him today and wanted to let you guys go behind the veil.
He actually wanted to leave Miami at several points and times last year. He's been very frustrated with the coaches during his tenure here and he's had people in his ear trying to keep him level headed and focused on the bigger prize. He's often had to take up for himself and less talented teammates. A text came in recently from Duke saying "I hate these F*(^*ing coaches" to a mentor. There's a lot going on behind the scenes.

To give you an example of the kind of thing he's gone through (all facts, no embellishing) here's a story:
Duke was injured because of blocking on a reverse earlier this year and Golden called him out in front of the whole team saying 'who told you to block like that?' Duke just looked at AG and was thinking to himself that that's the way the coaches at Miami instructed him to block. Golden then went on to say that Duke was always getting hurt and couldn't stay on the field. Right after that, Duke fired off the text above.

Duke's handlers had to continue to monitor his emotions all last season as he phoned numerous times about being very unhappy. The sense I'm continually getting is that Miami coaches have trouble connecting with certain players and treating them a bit harsh. Some may say it's football, but when your star player is saying he wants to transfer to West Virginia, that should be cause for concern. The south Florida athlete is a different kind of guy and I've seen that with my involvement and covering youth football.

Duke stayed on and just fought through stuff. He's being reminded about the bigger picture and he's definitely gone after next season, don't even think about him staying, it's confirmed. He's already tracking his draft status. He's telling people close to him that he's projected late first early second in the 2015 draft right now (pre-injury). He's determined to come back bigger, faster and stronger.

Ereck Flowers is also gone after this year. He really hates Miami. He doesn't want to even do media. He's on the first train smoking after his junior year.

I'll have more later but it's disheartening to hear some of this stuff, but I knew this was going on. Tracy Howard got into a major spat with Coach D'Onofrio last year and it kinda got viral. I learned about it and posted it hear. I now that Tracy does things like wave his hand at D'Onofrio when the coach tells him things. That's why after the two pick game Tracy had, D'Onofrio went out of his way to rip Tracy for other errors in the game, tackling. I knew there were back stories and didn't write about it. It's public knowledge they don't get along behind close doors but none of them will talk about it. It's a 'locker room' thing.

But expect Tracy to bolt also. If Miami doesn't win a championship, either ACC or BCS (or whatever the new title will be called) it will possibly be tough for a few years until the coffers are filled again because last years freshman class (2013) is disgruntled. It starts with the leaders, so it's likely a wide spread concern.

If you're calling out Duke Johnson, imagine what a fourth year walk on is treated like.

this is what I was referring too.....

No way could we recruiting ANOTHER white receiver. That would be unheard of at Miami. These coaches must be crazy!

Gallo - If any of your stuff it true, that only proves my point! We need to get rid of this South Florida athlete BS! Real football players don't backtalk coaches. Real football players put the team first. Real football players don't wave their hands at coaches.

The first thing I do on Monday after a kid, or the team as a whole, has a great game is identify everything that went wrong. The last play, the last game, and last season mean NOTHING. Everything is about winning this week's game. You had 5 TFLs, well that was last week… it can't help you now.

I challenge my players all the time. As much as I can't stand D'Onofrio's defense, and would welcome his departure, I'm sure he also challenges these kids. It's YOUR South Florida athletes can't handle the ribbing. Like so many of the underclassmen who left early after the 2012 season learned, it get's a hell of a lot harder in the real world.

Worton sounds good, but ramsey is too small to play college ball linemen against other linemen who outweigh him by 100 pounds.

Thank you Warren Sapp!!!!!!

goldie and d'o need to be fired, the sooner the better.

We can get all the recruits we want but the bottom line is these clans can't coach and I don't think they can develop talent. These coaches don't adapt to the players and they have proven not to be able to do more with less. If these coaches could make something out of nothing I would be willing to press on with them but they have been below average coaches for they got here and I strongly believe that's what they will remain. I often here about what a great job they did at temple resurrecting the program. What I would like to know is why an 8-4 team they had temple didn't get invited to a bowl game? Now all of a sudden when he is bringing the U down again then everyone is like oh their doing such a great job. Hello the rest of the college football world loves to see his inept coaching staff at the helm of the U. Ii would love to see him prove me wrong but I just don't see it.

Every single day provides these turncoat Gator Tebow esque man over program lovers another stage and opportunity to expose themselves.

As said above, the day before yesterday it was "Come'on Valentine, U can be the next Sapp" and today its Sapp sucks and can't be trusted. All to save the face of Golden and his Holy Binder.

He comes before every Cane even Ray Lewis (who of course is not in position to tell the truth with his son currently being a CB under D'No), so stop name dropping...pathetic.

Stockholm Syndrome on full display.

Warren Sapp is a fat a55 blabber mouth.

Hey warren- Why you illin? Youdont talk that kind of smak on the U unless youre a gator or nole. Lord knows your biscuiteating a55 gre up near Gainesville. You were probably a gator at heart but they didnt recruit you eh?

The canes will be fine
All you pos whiney nimrods who whine about Donofrio and Golden- go cheer for Muschump and Jimbo fisher- You aint canes. gTFOH with your lame garbage
