Canes making late push for Dillard athlete Randy Ramsey, South Dade WR CJ Worton

It's never too late to try and use your home field advantage.

And apparently that's what the Miami Hurricanes and Al Golden are doing with a week to go before National Signing Day.

According to Fort Lauderdale Dillard coach Lorenzo Davis, Golden and UM assistants swung by the school on Tuesday to visit recent Arkansas commitment Randy Ramsey. And now the 6-4, 210-pound senior is pondering whether or not to take a last minute official visit to UM this coming weekend.

"Right now he and his parents are thinking about it," Davis said. "We’ll know something by [Thursday] evening. I don’t think it would be a bad thing to take a visit.

"He likes Miami. They’re the hometown team. They offered him a while ago and were trying to get him to visit, but he never would. Nothing wrong with going to look and see what it's like. He has a chance now not to have any regrets. There’s no loss just to go."

The Hurricanes apparently hadn't been after Ramsey hard enough and he wanted to see more of an effort on their part, Davis said.

Ramsey earned All-Broward First Team honors by the Miami Herald this season after racking up 20 sacks as an undersized defensive end. His future position in college remains up in the air. He's played cornerback, linebacker and rush end in the past.

"I think a reason a lot of schools were kind of holding back was because they were trying to figure out what position he was going to play," Davis said. "I was telling them all from the get-go just take him as an athlete. He did some amazing things for us this season."

> Another local player UM is hoping to get a visit from on a late push is South Dade receiver C.J. Worton, who recently de-committed from Florida State and is now entertaining offers from Florida, West Virginia and the Hurricanes. He told 247Sports its likely he'll visit UM this weekend.

“Well, I really haven’t had much contact with them, until recently I started talking to coach [James] Coley again,” Worton said of the Miami offensive coordinator. “He’s the one that originally recruited me to Florida State, so I always had a real good relationship with him. He just asked me how everything is going, I guess he heard I decommitted."

“He’s always wanted to coach me and he said wherever he was, that’s where he wanted me to go there...He’s very trust worthy, I trust him a lot. I know he will take care of me wherever I go and I know he wants to run his office through me.”

Worton told 247 it's like UM will get his last official visit because he feels like he owes it to Coley and his father has always been a big UM fan.

"I think it would be cool to try to get him to go if I end up do going," Worton told 247Sports. "I feel like that would be really cool for him to get up there and see the coaches and see the facilities. Since it’s so close, it’s an easy trip. I’m tired of all these plane flights and everything.”

Worton caught 42 passes for 1,052 yards to lead Dade County this season. His teammate, receiver Tyre Brady, is a UM commitment. Worton capped his senior year by hauling in six catches for 159 yards and 3 TDs in South Dade's Class 8A state championship victory.

^^Total BS of an obviously insecure, unappreciative, negative, control freak with an unbreakable overseer mentality still being reenacted thru children.

Coaches are humans, they make mistakes, and aren't above reproach.

Why don't spend some time analyzing what U did wrong and practicing some self-awareness. What South Florida kids are U referring to? U can't just post that attack on the entire demographic that has led this team to 5 NCs under 4 different coaches without some proofs or examples.

Real leaders check themselves first and when their subordinates see that occur, then trust is established. There will be no hand waving and back talk after that. U are obviously struggling with the man in the mirror. After some time has passed the team should become your mirror, so if there's a problem its U!

HTC - Absolutely agreed. And whether you like it or not, the team will mirror this coaching staff at some point. Right now it is too full of YOUR heralded, ME-FIRST kids.

Jim Kelly tweets support of Golden and the direction of the program...someone with some common sense, dis on him haters...go ahead, what does he know right? what does recruiting expert Tom Lemming now right, all the experts come from under your rock or your mom's basement where you live and jump on these guys, lol. In favor of that "real man of genius," Warren Sapp? Roflmao.

Sapp comments; ouch, but meh.

rehashing the same old AG sucks comments; yawn

re: decommits - here's one for piggy and gallo and crew:

As to the others: we shall see.

Valentine? good riddance b. brown/SH 2.0 - we'll be alright.

Gator trolls - worry about your own fortunes.

U care to provide any examples of these "me-first" kids we current have on our team, or even some examples of occurrences that prove this behavior exists without using names?

Every insider, former player and analyst has unanimously agreed that this is the nicest and most personable Canes team ever. Its one of the reasons that Golden is lauded as a great coach by UM and the national media--the character level of his recruits is exceptional. Ironically, the only way he ever wins a NC is if begins to land these so called "ME-First" kids that U rant about and that everyone, including Golden wants. He can't develop the good boys and can't get along with and win the respect of the bad boys. What a quagmire.

Again, lots of assessments and analysis on everyone else, but what does he bring to the table? The South Floridian recruiting grounds are a *proven* demographic.

HTC,
SH was a me first player who didn't back it up on the field, though he's gone.

I don't necessarily disagree with the rest of your statement, but don't think the good guy analysis is as dispositive as you make it out to be.

I think you look at Auburn, Alabama, OSU, Oregon, STANFORD!!!, aaaand FSU just this last year and there's not much evidence that any bad-boy personas made or broke their teams...

Re: Jameis Christ's "rape," that's a non-starter too.

Trayon Gray is visiting the U this week. He is going to be the sleeper in this class. He Played QB,WR,CB and Safety and didn't have the proper platform to display all of hi talents at WR like other top local WRs. He can step in and fill the void left by Hurns,if need be. He has the same build and speed as Hurns. Preferably with that size and speed they can develop him into a top Safety, where we most need the help.

Good to hear Kaaya is sticking. He is a must in my opinion. He could really change Miami's fortunes. It looks like Chad Thomas is fully committed too. He is a gamechanger. There are some good players coming back that need to improve - AQM, Figueroa, McCord, Kirby. Perryman and Chick also need to improve as well. Valentine would be great, but he could also be a headcase that never pans out like Henderson, Arthur Brown, Willie Williams, and other who play the hat game and act like divas before signing day.

The pressure is on this coaching staff now. No more excuses. This team can improve if the coaching staff loosens up a little. It's refreshing to have someone like Coley, who at least has the old Canes' attitude. If he calls plays better he will be all set! Go Canes.

Tub o Sht just likes to feed the racist nonsense.

Now also self appointed ranker of Canes greats:
(Sapp) "comes before every Cane."

Really?

beed, I'm responding to a prior post. That blogger brought up bad and good players and he'd be best to explain what constitutes a person making that distinction about a kid. What makes U believe that Stanford has no bad boy persona players? I witnessed Skov do some crazy stuff on the field and they have Wayne Lyons from South Florida and thus a "me-first" player according to Tampa. OSU has Marcus Hall (from my neighborhood--suspended for fighting and giving the entire Big House the finger before exiting, Braxton Miller--not a saint to say the least, and Carlos Hyde who was suspended for beating his girlfriend. Auburn, Bama, and Oregon have or are under some form of NCAA investigation or scrutiny.

But again, the dynamics of this topic are not mine to explain.

Again, there should be a required reading comprehension standardized test prerequisite before posting on this blog.

If u could read and wasn't so blinded by hate and obsessed with me, you'd know that I was referring to Golden coming before every Cane in the eyes of some fans, and not Sapp. So thirsty to prove me wrong or insult me that U keep falling on your face. Really?

Richard Sherman also went to Stanford. He is a trash-talker reminiscent of the Canes of old on the field.

Sunny:

Kaaya's tweet is sweet. I agree that he could be a real leader...Here's to hoping he's not KWright 2.0...Don't think he is. Chaminade plays in a good league.

Thomas? No idea. If he stays, huge win with immediate payoff, agreed.

Those are the only two that really matter at this point.

OC Coley? Very interesting to see if he improves. I think he will. Having DJ, Gus, and Yearby, regardless of the other recruits, along with RW, Olsen, or Kaaya is going to give him a better palette to work from - especially because our OLine is going to be no worse.

Defense? Jesus, who knows. No expectations there. At least the Honeymoon is over and pressure is out in the wide open, no?

beed - good post. I think Coley will improve too. It was his first year calling plays and I did see flashes of brilliance from him during the season (first half against UF, last drives against Wake and UNC). The offense did stall more after Duke went down. I also think Morris hampered him quite a bit. Coley also largely carried over Fisch's playbook from the previous season. With a new QB starting I'm sure he'll make the playbook more of his own.

Injuries to Morris, Duke and Dorsett definitely hampered Coley's play calling. The OL didn't play up to billing. This new OL seems just as solid as last year's billing. We have a solid WR and TE core coming back and with WR Coley having gained experience. The addition of Yearby and all the new comers on offense is definitely going to make us better and allow Coley to open up the play book.
Number 1 task to address = 3rd and Short!!

HTC and Sunny,

Touche' on Sherman and counter examples. I eat that one, LOLOL.

I like Sherman. His follow up column showing reflection was really cool.

Reminds me of the quote;

“When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?” - Keynes (whoops, don't mean to start another political/economics slap fight) - "facts changing" in this case being, the aftermath, his considering input from people he respects, and showing maturity.

Which leads me into: For as little as I think AG has shown in the numbers and big game performances, the honeymoon is clearly over, he's here, we have a tougher schedule and no excuses buffer, so here's to betting that AG uses all his fancy book lernin' to make some adjustments and give his staff its last real chance to develop.

Sunny,

I danged near forgot that Coley was carrying over Fisch's playbook and terminology! Great point!

That's actually a pretty exciting factor to consider, moving forward...

It's funny to have seen how badly SMO regressed after Fisch left, so credit Fisch again, but that last Senior bowl performance from SM and his talk really does demonstrate how streaky he really, really was.

I don't mean to bash the guy, but MOVING FORWARD, I think we have something to be excited about in our QB situation, with OC Coley implementing his schemes!

No K wright 2.0!

Did we get Malik Rosier? He could be a good option for pistols and wildcat formations if we did.

Go Canes!

Be honest this staff has taken this team as far as talent can take you because their coaching is as bad as Jack Daniels chased with cod liver oil. Next year will be a calamity, i can see it coming. Every team in the conference that didn't beat us could have and every team is improving and we're stuck in neutral. I love the Canes, but I ain't Stevie Wonder. We are gonna flip the results of last year. you politically correct, passive, liberals will learn you can't fight a war with Ghandi as your commander and the French foreign legion as your coordinators. 5-7 next year.

Too funny cane clowns. Bunch of Golden Slurpers are now mad at Sapp for speaking his mind. News flash idiots Valentine has heard this before and that is why he is going to LSU, the fact that Onofrio and Golden suck is a fact not a secret.
Some other idiot is mad at Manny for writing about this, as is if you don't talk about it, it will go away. You guys are truly desperate, delusional and just plain dumb.
Then the next idiot says that instead of reporting what Sapp said, Manny should just give you the score of the basketball game. So that everyone else can read what Sapp said but the local cane clowns should remain ignorant and un informed. This just keeps getting better. FYI the basketball team lost again.
You clowns are just too funny and pathetic.

old time canes had the run of the house when Erickson was here.......the players don't respect al golden

don't worry...more comming

I really did not like the way the coaches were unable to make adjustments to their game plan in the Louisville game. If the d is standing around rush the count and pound the ball up the middle or a quick out pass to the receivers. That would have stopped Louisville's clowning around.

The coaching staff has this year to show improvement. If not then the OC and DC have to go.

It's a FAIT ACCOMPLI... because TV is packing his bags and trekking out to Baton Rouge for some fine Canjun Cuisine and what not.

Mr. Warren Sapp for Governor of Florida... because he SPEAKS TRUTH TO POWER regarding al-FRAUD Goldie nd' Marky Mark, too.

Few want to limit Sapp's speech. The usual group of haters just attaches to this as an issue. He was a Cane great. He wasn't the 2nd Coming, so don't escalate him either.

TV, like everyone else, can go to school wherever he wants. I've been assuming he goes to LSU as he has talked them up. Now that dumb dumb duh duh D says it is a done deal, he probably is going anywhere but LSU.

Gallo, U need to take " gotta feed the fam" powell off your ridiculous list too. He got paid to go to ufelony....wasnt goldens fault why isnt kaaya still on your list? I guess it is a sign U can learn. Slow, but U can.

Read this it will blow your mind, A MUST OMG OMG OMG, remember Valentine said he didn't feel the love OMG read this, http://t.co/tPSvEdMKu0

Worton is a lights out receiver. You've never seen a white boy with the heart and hands like him. He'd be the best receiver at Miami. This kid is the truth. Whoever says that he is under sized has never seen him play. Breaks tackles and is fearless. I watched his brother play and his brother is great. But CJ has the burners, watch some of the highlights and see how easily he outruns the opposition. He'd be the best WR Miami has had since Wayne if we were to get him.

Sapp is a first class Apopka blue darter phucking jerk wad. He is just a mean biological human waste piece of garbage that could play a game well. One day at a bucs practice a innocent high school coach was invited to watch practice. Out of nowhere Sapp berated him and interrogated him loudly in front of everyone. Why? Because he could! What a thug

Valentine not visiting or Worton. and Wyche just enrolled is out and NOW THIS AND REMEMBER WHAT VALENTINE SAID 2 DAYS AGO HE DID NOT FEEL THE LOVE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BOOM READ THIS http://t.co/gt753i69FE....

Shout out to the real UM fans out there....., if miami passes up on cj then obviously miami is not recruiting the rite way...cj is the real package...., as a south dade alum....., all i can say is this guy is the real deal....., im a fan.....i saw him at the state finals....,,n all i can say is this guy is ready for college ball........ Cj....., do us all a huge favor to the true um nation....., become a cane.......
