Canes' spring game set for April 12th at Sun Life Stadium

The Miami Hurricanes’ 2014 Spring Football Game will be held Saturday, April 12, at Sun Life Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

In their third season under head coach Al Golden, the Hurricanes posted a 9-4 record and earned a berth to play in the Russell Athletic in Orlando. Miami’s six home wins in 2013 were the most in the Sun Life Stadium era and its most home wins since 2003.

Miami’s entire spring football schedule and events will be announced at a later date.

> Golden said during Tuesday's edition of Hurricane Hotline Miami will have 82 scholarships available for the 2014 season. The maximum is 85. The NCAA docked UM nine scholarships to be divided any way UM sees fit  over the next three seasons because of the Nevin Shapiro scandal.

Let the season build up begin.

How about bringing a scrimmage closer to Jacksonville, this year?

From Canesport....

"CaneSport had previously reported that Golden expected the deal finalized today. But when rumors of the Munchak flirtation circulated Sunday morning, sources told CaneSport that Golden informed Penn State that he wanted a contract to sign today. When it didn't happen by 4 p.m. - with pressure growing throughout South Florida - he backed out of the deal."

So, when the Sun comes up tomorrow, the deal could be back on the table ? If this guy, after his statement today, open himself back up for the job when Penn St. is done interviewing, he'll never be able to step foot in S. Fla. again without Police protection.

Crazier things have happened... Saban 2.0 ?

"There has been much speculation concerning my future at the University of Miami. While I am flattered that our progress at The U during an extremely difficult period of time is recognized, I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position. We are eager to welcome our student athletes back to campus next week and visit with prospective student-athletes and their families beginning January 15."

Nowhere in there does he say, "I'm 100% committed to Miami for the duration of my contract." that is a paper thin statement. And what he said today at 4pm can change tomorrow at 4pm? If Louisville called and ask permission for an interview, would Golden then be a "candidate for another position" because things change ? The other Penn St. candidates don't get offered and they come calling again? Man this guy is digging himself deeper holes that he might never get out of.

*** Things are not always as they seem. Golden gets to appear in the wake of all of this as so committed to Miami that he would turn down his alma mater. But just last night 1-7-14, the NBC station in Philadelphia reported that Penn State still considers Golden a candidate. Things that make you go hmm. Interesting days for both the Canes and Dolphins. - Greg Cote ***

.

If any Canes fans think Al Golden is 100% committed to Miami for the duration of his contract, you are only fooling yourselves. This guy and his Agent Brett Senior are still not making any further public statements or taking/returning any phone calls or emails. They are playing the University and it's fan base like stepping stones across a river and somehow remain high n dry by the press and certain overly emotionally involved fans that can't logically access this situation for what it is. Golden STILL is listening to Penn. St. Penn St. is in no hurry. They could take as long as 2 more weeks. And if Penn. St. calls Golden right now or in 2-weeks, he'll pick up before the 3rd. ring make absolutely no mistake about that.

Now, the real question is, does Penn. St. want Golden as much as Golden wants Penn. St. That remains to be seen. But he's put himself in this position of spin mastering this entire situation. Again, all he said in his statement, press conference and Joe Rose is, "I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position." ... PERIOD. Well how about today Coach ? Tomorrow ? In a week ? His agent wrote that very well crafted statement leaving him plenty of wiggle room. Commitment? Hardly.

So, if Golden is offered by Penn. St., which NEVER happened in the first place, will be offered or not offered, He's covered. But his true commitment to the University of Miami Football Program is anything but 100%. But then again, there are some of you that will turn blind eyes leaving yourselves to be blind sided time n time again.

Cue CaneIdiot72's boring rant about 3-4 defenses and "hand-in-the-dirt" teachings in 10, 9, 8, ........

This said it all... Great Post.

.

Lets be clear about what just happened. A current UM coach went job hunting for another COLLEGE job. This wasn't Butch to the pros, this was a man, with our potential recruits in his pocket, who marketed his services with another school for days. He also did it with a school we have a history with. Not acceptable and not cool.

The fact they reviewed his body of work with Temple, and UM, should tell us, and him, that he isn't a good enough coach. Period. There is no secret out there when people look at films and don't see a defense that even Paterno would have put on the field. Paterno loved loyalty but he also demanded competency. If you weren't good enough, no matter how loyal, you didn't play. Al needs to review the past two years tapes of the defense and decide if that was competent. Because neither Penn State or any NFL job you covet (say the Steelers) would want you with your current scheme. The lesson in all of this is that Al learns the price of being a good buddy over being a good coach, and he learns no one will take him serious from here on if he keeps playing the same garbage d. If that happens, all of this was a win for UM.

Golden strayed, continues to stray and so many are the doorman opening the door gladly as he comes and goes.

It's all about the F-O-O-L-S " Gold-en " and Thee Carpetbagger's have PLAYED y'all Goldie nd' Marky Mark sycophants and apologists. Nothing more, nothing less.

Oh, NBC Philly reports that Goldie is STILL a contender for the Penn. St. head coaching position. Go figures'.

The bottom line is ?? I-F ?? Vanderbilt head coach Franklin turns down the Nittny Lion offer. Then Penn. St. will most likely offer the position, AGAIN, to Thee Carpetbagger Par Excellance.

VOILA! Spoken like a SAGACIOUS, loyal, staunch Miami, Florida Hurricane partisan. No if's, but's or whatever's. hUh

Don't worry, PSU won't be offering AG the job.

It's Franklin's to accept.

The only way AG leaves is if the Franklin negotiations break down, which they shouldn't, because...I dunno.

Just don't think they will.

Dear Al,

Thank you so much for the contract extension, pay raise and rock solid job security...

Sincerely, your Best Friend Forever,

Mark

I told you.....here is a report on 1-5-2014 from mike Poorman at PSU statecollege.com:

"Golden may have spoken, but I believe (with a RealFeel of 72%) that it’s not his final answer. Sunday afternoon, the guy simply had no choice. He met with the Penn State search committee on Saturday for The Interview and Monday was slated to be all about The U – a previously scheduled meeting with his assistant coaches, a previously scheduled postseason press conference, a Hurricane Club renewal package asking for $9.8 million was hitting the streets and preparation is underway for recruiting visits beginning Jan. 15."

Al’s pot of gold with Penn State was (will?) sure to be around $3.2 million. Excellent money. But it wasn’t (isn’t?) about the money.

Before Sunday night hit, so the events of Miami’s Manic Monday could be called off, Golden needed The Ask. It never came. Not because Golden isn’t the man for the job. He is. There’s other stuff. And, unfortunately with Penn State over the past 27 months and counting, there is always a lot of other stuff.

So Golden had to show the right stuff on behalf of his current employer and issue that statement. Even at that, he’ll have a tough go at Monday’s presser, that’s for sure. He can hold onto that he was never offered the job and the fact that it was his ailing alma mater calling, needing him in its hour of need.

To be fair to Dear Old State, Golden may have given PSU a deadline that was unreasonable to meet. Penn State has protocol to follow and is no longer Free to do what it wants. There must be search committees, interviews, due diligence, providing legitimate opportunities for in-house and diversity candidates, dealings with higher-ups."

if PSU met his Sunday deadline to go to contract golden would be GONE......inside sources think he is still in the mix.

*** Things are not always as they seem. Golden gets to appear in the wake of all of this as so committed to Miami that he would turn down his alma mater. But just last night 1-7-14, the NBC station in Philadelphia reported that Penn State still considers Golden a candidate. Things that make you go hmm. .

Coach Golden, when you sit down with your agent and make a rock solid decision to NOT take another Coaching job this is how you do it...

*** While the Patriots were on their playoff bye week, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels interviewed for the open Browns head coaching job.

On Wednesday, though, McDaniels WITHDREW from consideration for the job, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. ***

Not, "I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position." (ie- at this time on this day agent speak.)

Well, we should find out soon enough. Clearly from the language Golden used he did not preclude the possibility of taking the Penn State job. He merely said that he was not a "candidate," whatever that means. Maybe he was not a "candidate" on Sunday but that could change quickly if Franklin turns down the job. I have no idea why Franklin would accept the job because he likely could get an NFL job at this point or a job at a comparable program that does not have any sanctions . This is probably the worst time for him to go to Penn State because the scholarship reductions are kicking in, and Penn State will be much worse talent wise than this season.

Ag would be stupid to foreclose definitively on the possibility of leaving if they did want to offer him the job here in the next week.

Heck, with what he has said about retaining the same staff, he has to have taken notice of the harsher tone by the local media towards him.

More incentive to jump at the chance if it became available.

Don't get excited AG haters, don't you worry AG lovers...the probabilities lean towards a Franklin hire.

update from psu sources....san fran 49er's greg roman just competed an interview today......

Vanderbilt athletics director David Williams affirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Franklin was expected to remain in Nashville. Meanwhile, media outlets have yet to report on interim head coach [db]Larry Johnson[/db]'s interview with Penn State.

Blue White Illustrated will continue to monitor this story as it develops.

GOLDEN IS STILL IN THE MIX....if Franklin s out and Larry Johnson doesn't get an interview.....don't kid yourself.....goldens statement Monday gives him all the wiggle room he needs to exit UM

That Browns job is a death trap. You would have to be crazy or desperate to accept a head coaching position with that organization. You'd be better off waiting it out another year for another opportunity to emerge. I feel bad for Browns fans. Hopefully their owner will be in federal prison soon.

"Penn State’s recently-departed Bill O’Brien made almost $3.3 million, 14th in the country. Add in his July 1, 2013, bonus and O'Brien jumps to No. 8 at $4.2 million. Al’s pot of gold with Penn State was (will?) sure to be around $3.2 million. Excellent money."

that's why Franklin is considering it vs NFL....4.2 is great money....

"I told you.....here is a report on 1-5-2014 from mike Poorman at PSU statecollege.com:"

No, you didn't tell us. Although you have said Penn State does not want him in one post, that Golden will never leave because he has no accountability here in another posts, and that Golden is definitely leaving in the next post.

When you throw ALL possibilities out there, you are sure to get one of them right. How about instead you say WHICH of the scenarios you think will actually happen.

Gotta hand it to PSU for interviewing Franklin and Roman - two we'd love to have...they actually want to win soon.

“From a professional standpoint, I’ve never discussed any other positions. As I said yesterday I’m not a candidate. I’m excited to be here. I’m excited to welcome our guys back. We have incoming guys coming in Wednesday. The whole staff returns today. We’ve got a staff meeting here in a little while. We’re moving forward.” - Al Golden

.

From a Professional standpoint huh Coach ? So what was that little meeting with the Penn St. brass that flew down on the private jet on Saturday ? A Personal BBQ party with old buddies ? Man this guy is really good. You have to admit whether any of us like or dislike him as a Coach. True gift of deflection gab.

"“From a professional standpoint, I’ve never discussed any other positions."

So maybe the "Professional Discussions" regarding other positions begin "sooner or later" perhaps Al ?

This what I posted:

"Multiple sources told CaneSport.com and Blue White Illustrated, working in tandem on Saturday, that Golden had an agreement in principle to become Penn State's Head Coach.
A press conference announcing the hire was set to take place on Monday.
But overnight something happened that inspired Penn State to agree to talk to former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak on Sunday morning.
CaneSport had previously reported that Golden expected the deal finalized today. But when rumors of the Munchak flirtation circulated Sunday morning, sources told CaneSport that Golden informed Penn State that he wanted a contract to sign today. When it didn't happen by 4 p.m. - with pressure growing throughout South Florida - he backed out of the deal.

Then I posted:

CaneSport ‏@CaneSport 5h

CaneSport stands by all reports on Golden / P. State romance. Deal blew up today when Golden pressed for contract to sign after Munchak leak

And the reason seems to be this:

Golden may have spoken, but I believe (with a RealFeel of 72%) that it’s not his final answer. 15.

He wasn't ASKED since PSU has to complete its due diligence by interviewing ALL the other candidates....golden tried to rush this process Sunday and force PSU to commit to a SIGNED CONTRACT....

the search seems to be funneling down more now....al seems to be still in the mix....PSU just couldn't commit on Sunday....

PSU is willing to pay and get the best they can.....money is no object....it seems

greg roman would be great for anyone.....UM?

My opinion is this.....I don't think PSU will offer golden the job....

but if they do....al golden will take it.

How does a fat, senile slob who sits behind his keyboard 24-7 know what Golden, the PSU administrators and everyone else involved did much less what they wer thinking?

Lookin' at you, Gallo you maggot.

because I'm smart and your a jerkoff....its simple logic

pluuuuueeeezzzzeeee goldie, take the job.
And pluuuesse take shalalalah and d'o with you.

did you morons ever think that in goldie saying he is
sticking with d'o, perhaps literally, over the objections of fans who want him gone along with his three down linemen with hands in the dirt, that what goldie is really saying is that he has more loyalty to d'o and his losing NO defense than he has to UM or to its fans who pay him?

It looks like Petrino is going to Louisville and Randy may be going there to be Defensive Coordinator. Lamar Thomas is heading there to coach the receivers. Oh, I forgot, they also have many of the great South Florida players that UM wish they had. The aforementioned should be UM's coaching staff. What's wrong with this picture.

Although Randy may have been a a bit inexperienced as a Head Coach, he is still a great Defensive Coordinator and recruiter.

Donna, Blake and UM Board of Trustees, there is an evident paradigm shift going on here. Time to step up to the plate, and prevent the carpeting from being taken out from under us. Maybe for a start, we export Al Golden to replace Petrino at Western Kentucky. That is all of a head coaching job of which he is worthy.

Hopefully, Penn State will still take him. I just hope you guys aren't trying to convince him to stay in Coral Gables with more money. That money can be better used with a better championship proven coach.

The negative fluff and rumors that over run this blog is amazing and a shame. To get any meaningful and informative comments you have filter out 85-90% of the posts.

HTC, I'm not sure what post you mean. Check my type pad and repost it. Then I will explain. I can't look at this second.

Plus they're retaining Clint Hurtt. This is getting more and more hilarious every hour!

For Ganes fans who care more about jargon and being accepted by those who hate U for being successful with style and kids we used to get--get used to Us playing the old U, we got a glimpse in the bowl game, but it just got worse!

Watch what former commits Kermit Whitfield and Keith Bryant do on camera after Whitfield KR TD in the NC game the other day, they thru up the U and Bryant machine gunned it.

Everyone wants to be U...except U.

Keep working that infinite "process" that ensures mediocre coaches employment. Every time we lose and the players quit...just go look in the mirror at the face of the new culture.

Oh here it is, oh I get it, U explained it, ok cool.

I think he made himself available and was willing to wait until this evening before he withdrew his name from consideration. This little episode tarnishes his credibility.
He should have put this out Friday.

Gallo the maggot mind-reader. He could be a billionaire with that talent but instead uses his talent and time on this blog posting nonsense 24-7.

Hmmm, makes perfect sense you senile maggot.

I've been saying since Sunday that Miami should continue interviewing coaching candidates behind the scenes. There's nothing to stop Golden from accepting a follow up or new offer from Penn St. I also allows us to see what else is out there.

Miami also has the right to look for an upgrade.

wow....your kidding me. I knew it....everyone is gonna throw the "U" sign up now. Too funny....

who wold ever believe that in 1986...opposition giving the U.....you would have been f..cked over in the parking lot after the game.....

we are nothing but a bunch of p....sy's....

it is so true....everyone wants to be UM except UM.....I don't think I have ever seen that in college ball....

When you have 18 year olds from the opposition telling UM coaches on the sidelines that they ruined UM football....you know it is totally over...

"After starring at Northwestern Senior High, Bridgewater and his high school teammates opted to make their future with another African-American head coach, Charlie Strong. That decision speaks volumes. To his credit, Strong lets his squad play with the reckless abandon and swagger that once inspired Miami's inner-city boys to wear orange and green. That's why Gaines talked smack to UM coaches on the sideline, telling them how they've screwed up the program. And it's why Bridgewater mocked the U with a throat-slashing gesture after scoring a touchdown run in the fourth quarter."

I hope Shalala is paying attention. She should offer Strong the head coaching job when Al Golden bolts for Penn State.....Miami Times

NoD PORKS AG..

Gallo the maggot, back to her lies. Galloqueen, you placed quotation marks around that statement.

What is the source? Isn't it really just your fat-laden sausage-obsessed mind? You take it in the can, don't you?

Penn state sources and NBC Philadelphia report that the PSU job is down to two: Golden and Franklin.

And that Franklin's assistants have started monitoring PSU recruits on Twitter.

And, in other news, Petrino who I liked for UM maybe hired by Louisville. Forgiveness abounds there.

Do you think Golden will take the job if offered? Do you think he has been shining us on? He has certainly been elusive, no?

Your thoughts?

So Jim says Franklin stays at Vandy.

No input on Larry Johnson, PSU assistant, interview.

Niners assistant interviewed today. The OC would be a good fit for Hackenberg, the sophomore QB.

No input on Munchak situation.

PSU selection committee must do extraordinary due diligence before offering someone.

If Golden get the offer, he is gone...I am good with it.

well if its down to 2 then it has to be golden since the AD said that Franklin will be the coach next year....

Vanderbilt athletics director David Williams affirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Franklin was expected to remain in Nashville.

"I expect James to be our football coach. I'm planning on it," Williams said in a CBS sports report. "We're looking at facilities. We're working on some stuff. I have all thoughts that he's going to be our football coach. I'll do everything I can to make sure that he is."

at this point who knows.....

Listen folks. The U is the U. We support the institution and our current coach. If he is gone, we'll support the next coach. But for now, AG is our coach and I think Blake James is correct.

But if someone is going to get a 150% raise a year by leaving, I would not hold that against them although I believe the rumors are false. These rumors are planted as part of a "vast SEC/ Nole conspiracy" is going on to steal our recruits.

AG is here for the long haul.

TTM: Perhaps the biggest criticism of Al Golden is a simple one: He hasn’t won enough. Some are speculating he is a bad in-game coach. Did you see any evidence of that? Is there any indication, in your opinion, that maybe there’s reason to believe he can’t win consistently?

JD: And even though I’m in full agreement with Bradshaw that Al pulled off one of the most remarkable college football turnarounds at Temple and should be commended for it, there were big-game slip-ups with the Owls as well. In 2009, with a spot in the MAC title game on the line, Temple lost to Ohio, 35-17, and that loss ended a nine-game winning streak. In 2010, again with a shot at a MAC title-game appearance at stake, Temple lost its last two games – 31-23 to Ohio at home in monsoon conditions and 23-3 at Miami of Ohio. Now, Bernard Pierce pulled up lame with a hamstring injury in that Ohio game, and I’ll say that I think Bernard has learned how to be a lot more mentally tough since moving along to the NFL, so that was a big offensive void for Temple. But, nonetheless, the Owls couldn’t lock down a spot in the MAC title game in those two seasons when they could have and should have, nor did Al’s teams ever beat a MAC team with a winning record during his time on North Broad Street.

That's why they wouldn't even consider looking for a possible BACKUP head coach.

“From a professional standpoint, I’ve never discussed any other positions. As I said yesterday I’m not a candidate. I’m excited to be here." - Al Golden on Joe Rose Monday Jan. 6, 2014. 6:30am

1,2,3 LIES ... He actually said he did NOT discuss the Penn St. job with the Penn. St. people that went to his house on Saturday, CONFIRMED, from a "Professional" standpont ? How much more Lawyer speak can it get ?

This guy is flat out lying to all our faces. And when/if Penn. St. offers/ or doesn't offer Golden, and he stays, we're suppose to forget all about that?

You fans that say yes, it's forgivable, that's your right. But Golden and his undying loyality to his BFF D.C. friend over the loyality to the University of Miami and it's overall welfare is a complete and irreparable deal breaker and game changer for this 5-figure yearly donation Cane fan.

Tell a lie and eventually you'll need to tell a second... Tell a second lie and eventually you'll need...

"“From a professional standpoint, I’ve never discussed any other positions."

So maybe the "Professional Discussions" regarding other positions begin "sooner or later" perhaps Al ?

Or maybe "at the end of the day" is the "process" you'll take huh Coach ?

At least the honeymoon is over with Goldilocks. The guy has actually manged to piss off boosters, the media, and of course long time die hard Canes fans. Nothing less than an appearance in the ACC championship game is warranted for next year. I mean this incoming class is supposed to provide the depth and talent we need right?

The article D posted is really good. Worth a read.

Hey fella, don't ever call me or anyone a fool. I am an alum and a fan of the U. I support the U and whoever coaches here. Don't be an internet tough guy. It is not like you know future and are super clairvoyant. Why don't you look into your crystal ball and tell us what's going to happen? Blake James knows more about what Al intends to do than any of us on this blog or the "little birdies" that call in to radio shows.

May be you're part of the "vast SEC/ Nole conspiracy" to steal our recruits by spreading false rumors? Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

The honeymoon with Goldie didn't even begin with moi. Especially when Thee Carpetbagger's lost their first ever game as Cane coaches against MIGHTY Maryland.

Yes, that Turtle squad which would win ONLY TWO GAMES in 2011 ( I-AA Towson St. and U Know Who. ).

In other words, both Goldie nd' Mark inherited enough talent to win SEVEN or EIGHT games in 2011. Yet, Thee Carpet bagger's MANAGED to DISMANTLE a Top 25 defense ( No. 22, 2010 team defense. ) and guide that particular Hurricane team to a .500 record. Go bloody figures'.

Posted by: D | January 08, 2014 at 05:40 PM

What a selective memory! Go back and check how many of our impact players/ starters were suspended for Maryland in 2011. That will tell you all you need to know.
