Five Canes invited to the NFL Combine: QB Morris, OG Linder, OT Henderson, WR Hurns & P O'Donnell

Five Hurricanes were invited to the NFL Combine next month in Indianapolis. Here's the release we just received from UM.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Five Miami Hurricanes have accepted invitations to participate at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, while will be held Feb. 22-25 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The four-day combine will be televised live on NFL Network.

QB Stephen Morris, OG Brandon Linder, OT Seantrel Henderson, WR Allen Hurns and P Pat O’Donnell will be among the more than 300 prospects evaluated by all 32 NFL teams. Linder, Henderson and O’Donnell will work out on Feb. 22, while Morris and Hurns will work outFeb. 23.

Morris, a two-year starter under center and a 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team member, finished his career ranked third in Miami history with 7,896 passing yards and 49 touchdowns. A 2013 All-ACC third-team selection, Morris is one of only two QBs in Miami history with multiple 3,000-yard passing seasons (Gino Torretta).

Linder started all 13 games along the offensive line in 2013 and concluded his career with 37 consecutive starters. He was a second-team All-ACC selection and was named the team’s Offensive MVP at the end of the season. Henderson, a third-team All-ACC selection, played in 12 games along the offensive line, making eight starts at right tackle.

Hurns enjoyed one of the greatest receiving seasons in program history in 2013. The second-team All-ACC receiver set a single-season school record with 1,162 receiving yards and finished with 62 receptions – the third-most in a single season. He finished his career ranked seventh in both receptions (121) and receiving yards (1,891).

In his one season in Coral Gables, O’Donnell made a considerable impact, setting the school single-season record with a 47.1 yards-per-punt average. A first-team All-ACC choice and second-team All-America selection by USA TODAY, O’Donnell booted 23 punts of 50+ yards and downed 19 inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Miami, in its third season under head coach Al Golden, finished 2013 with a 9-4 mark and an appearance in the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando.

Regarding Al Golden, still waiting for concrete news on Penn State. The coaches are on vacation this week, and it's a dead period recruiting wise.

Al has an afternoon news conference scheduled with the media on Monday. It was his regular end-of-the-year talk. We're all wondering if that will happen.

Not confident it will at this point.

We'll see.

golden and d'o did their level best to screw Miami with their 3 down linemen, LB's five yards off the los, zone, NO pass coverage putting DBs out of position, bend and eventually break into points, prevent-the-Miami-win, NO DEFENSE.

golden did his level best to make Morris and the offense look like chumps throwing hail mary passes and wasting downs and throwing go no where flat passes.

And yet, still!!!!!! Morris and the offense saved golden's worthless butt with wins in the last minutes of the UNC and WF games in spite of everything golden, dumbo, and their OC screwed the players with.

Otherwise, golden would be 7-6 which is what penn state will get from him. Pluuuuleeeezzzzeee, Penn State take golden. I will be your deer-in-the-headlights fan for all of your games in the big ten!!!!!!

Morris, do not let scumbags goldie and d'o shake your confidence. You are as good or better than any Miami QB. Ditto for other Cane players. Coaches lose games. Players win them.

Yes sir, good job Cane72

Bashing Golden is not the answer. If he wants to go to PSU, then let him. It only means that his words mean nothing and the U will lose some recruits. Then maybe the U goes and brings Butch back..........LoL

More evidence of Al Golden's inferior game day coaching skills. Talent from before he received the job getting an NFL Combine invitation.

More talent than this was in place at Miami. But Al Golden used the renegade program technique of running the previous coaches scholarship players off the team. As well as bringing in his own recruits for one year scholarship tryouts. Then over recruiting to fill those open scholarships. The team now has little cohesiveness, because of it.

This is a particularly terrible legacy for the highest paid Miami Hurricanes' coach ever.

More, of the large, evidence as to why now is as good as any time for Al Golden to leave. Just go, we did not and do not need you.

When Golden makes the announcement very soon over the weekend that he's staying at Miami... Know these 3 things my fellow Cane Fans.

#1-Golden didn't turn down Penn. St.

#2-Penn St. never came close to offering him.

#3-D'Onofrio will have more job security than ever.

It was all a smokecreen by Al and his agent to ensure and solidify #3.

Golden is now 0-9 vs teams in ranked in the Final AP Poll. The average score in the 9 games is 40-20. Not ONE Win and only 1 was even close.

2011 - Lost to KSU
2011 - Lost to FSU
2011 - Lost to Virginia Tech
2012 - Lost to FSU
2012 - Lost to KSU
2012 - Lost to Notre Dame
2013 - Lost to FSU
2013 - Lost to Duke
2013 - Lost to Louisville

says it all ...

It is so very sad, but true, that Al Golden is such an unsavory fellow. That scenario is what you would suspect from him. He is exactly like a used car salesmen. You do not believe a word out of his mouth.

This can never, ever, get posted enough. The man and his fans are not believable for a second.

If Miami's administration and leading booster increase his pay. They will have completely destroyed the Miami Hurricanes' football program.
Posted by: ChampCane | January 03, 2014 at 04:02 PM

And they don't care.

Hey Champ, if golden leaves it means and proves without any doubt that he had lost the team. He can't "get this thing corrected" if that thing doesn't like his style of correction. UM administration loves it but they don't have to play under it.

A necessary Cane Mutiny behind the scenes, and his ego in response to it, is the only reason he'd leave.

Moreover, O'fer,

Replace our 7-5 record last year, with an OOC of KSU and ND; 3 games lost by less than a TD average...5 losses, including KSU, ND blowouts averaged at 19 pts pergame...
VS.
With our 9-3 record this year, ooc replacements of FAU and SvSt.; all three games lost by an avg of 21 pts, 22.5 pts incl. UL....

NUMBERS. DON'T.LIE.
This year's "improvement"...completely illusory.

116th to 90th in Def....with the easier schedule...

Progress? Nope.

Heck, take a look at Vandy's Franklin and try to tell me HE hasn't done more with less in an inarguably tougher conference with less or equal talent..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Franklin_(American_football_coach)#Vanderbilt

At this point, I just don't get the unwavering AG support in light of the facts.

MAYBE he can do more with more time...But nobody should be heartbroken if he leaves...

There is a small window of opportunity to bring in any number of eligible candidates to rebuild this team as well as or better than what we're stuck with if AG doesn't bolt IN THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF TIME, even if he doesn't leave....Sticking with "the devil you know" is starting to sound like an abusive relationship syndrome to me...

C'mon PSU, that whole Vandy scandal is true! Franklin is a dirt bag! AG is your man!

that Golden is even considering the job should be enough for UM's AD to sweep him out the door immediately!!!

Man u guys are idiots....Penn st has golden in their top 3 in their coaching search. They actually haven't offered the job to anyone yet. And whoever said coaches lose games and players win games is as bad as saying defense wins championships.

Yup Leo,
Cat's outta the bag. He wants out, (because of us awful bloggers, lolol), UM's AD and BOT needs to find out whatever Franklin's buyout is and beat it for PSU...

Stockholm Syndrome.

Go Get Coach Chudzinski, He bleeds orange and green. He is a damn good coach and is the right one to get them to a National Championship. Was instrumental with the 2001 teams success! Probably needs a break from the NFL after the Browns fumbled the ball badly.

Good lUck guys!

Thanks for your contributions to the Canes!

U can book this: Each of the players mentioned will be in the NFL. U do not have a problem attracting skill and talent. U do have a problem developing that skill and talent.

Translation: The coaches themselves could use some refresher courses in, well, coaching.

I can't say it enough: RS was on the right track, but in a very unconventional way. he was restricted by the administration from getting who he wanted to get. An example of this is Nix: That set the program back thousands of years, but, here again, RS did not have a choice.

So he relied on what he considered the truest of the truest recruiting pipelines. Enter NW: Bridgewater was a part of that and wanted to come to UM. Teddy is a program-changer. RS and his rinky-dink budget plus Bridgewater, plus some more NW superstars were ready to come to UM. But then they got rid of RS. For what? The last attempt to do something stellar was with Trestman. Then that failed.

Now U are in the same boat with the mediocre 'Goldy. For fairness sake, get rid of 'Goldy after next year. if U don't U are a hypocrite.

Well, Dr. Lou,
aphorisms applied - TEAMS lose in large part due to bad coaching, schemes win games when players execute - see MSTU, UCF, & OU, and no team WITHOUT a better than average defense wins championships; ask TAMU and JF about that...

Jesus, guys, this is a dude who came into an impossible situation at Miami without knowing about it. If he wants to go, let him go. He'll find better facilities and patience at PSU, but worse talent. He'll struggle to compete with Michigan, Ohio State and a bunch of other top notch programs while having crazy expectations hoisted on him. Kinda like Miami but here he was fighting with one arm tied with NCAA.

Before we attack his character out of anger, let's remember that so far he's been a pretty good coach with a few flaws and players that weren't really his.

According to CANESPORT's, Goldie will be the next Penn. St. head coach.

Praise be to Almighty Buddha!!

So, Rivals took down the story of Golden accepting PSU job. Wonder what's up?

I'll bet he does take it.

BRING BACK THE SWAG, BABY!

CANESPORT'S has a mega high percentage rate of touting future-istic Cane happenings and what not.

@@@@@@@@@@@

Believe it or not, DBC. Thee Carpetbagger's are GONE!!

Praise be to Almighty Budhha!!

Golden has an offer..no acceptance, yet.

put penn st on the schedule. we can through for 7-10 yards easy.

reports are that PU has offered... what a great start to my new year man... bye bye to giving up 500 yards a game on defense... thank the gods of football... thank you...

Chud, that's the guy to get. And we'd better do it now so that we can keep our recruiting class.

But a Penn State source told ESPN's Joe Schad that Golden agreed to speak about the opening as early as Friday because: "It would be coming home. There is a sense of obligation about listening about coming home to Penn State."

Do you believe this guy?! He's out interviewing for a job while we are losing recruits due to his crap coaching.

I am so excited about the prospect of losing AG.

Understand that a LOT of us really wanted AG to be the man to fix it. I was petrifed when other teams came calling after 2011 and we signed our (now ridiculous) contract with him through 2020, no merit required...We all feared the worst from the NCAA...Our AD then promptly runs off....It really did seem like the thing to do at the time...

Another season passes where we had supposedly shored up a historically bad defense(nope. and. nope.), replaced an obviously gifted OC with a decent bet in Coley (which turned out to be not so true), had some key injuries when it mattered most, dismissed key players for being idiots, found out the NCAA mess was done for reasons both of good handling and back acting by the NCAA, and yet:

The record improvement is STILL illusory.

In 2012, the excuses were inexperience, RS leftovers, player dismissals which are actually understandable, negative recruiting, close losses to equal or only slightly lesser teams, and a learning of the process - the KEY reason/excuse...

We now have the prospect of Senior Turnover and JR pro departures, a great, but inexperienced recruiting class, a frosh RB or 2 to back DJ, the same DC, another set of JUCO stopgaps, a new QB (who knows who), and probably a harder SOS, both OOC and ACC...

So, now, if AG stays, Champcane is right about his points 1-3, we all get to stew knowing he was ready and willing to bail, but didn't cut it.

So, as far as I can tell, we have only another offseason of really, really hoping that this influx of recruits and trannys are miraculously, expoentitally better than RS's leftovers, one of whom was record setting and pretty darned good with the right tutelage...

It's a mixed bag, for sure, but I'd rather take our chances on the opportunity that the "catastrophe" of losing our Golden era presents...

D,

I hope you are right, brother!

We need a change!

Golden has good qualities.

A better fit for PSU.

bye bye Lane Kiffin... er, i mean Al Golden...

Posted by: Franco

Pretty good coach?! We rushed for 18 yards last week...18. And our offensive line was supposed to be a strength!

I can't wait to watch Golden fail at PSU.

DBC, I'm going according to what CANESPORT has recently reported.

And Canesport has a VERY HIGH accuracy rate when reporting Hurricane football matters. That's all.

We're getting Lane Kiffin!???? ZOMFG!! BEST DAY EVAR!

Say goodbye to the 2014 recruiting class and beyond.

If Golden takes the Penn State job it will be an enormous torpedo in the side of the program and inures at least another 5 years of mediocrity.

Simply devastating!!

Oh well!!

NUTHEENG BAD CAN HAPPIN WITH SAINT KIFFIN! GO GANES!

no... we're LOSING Lane Kiffin... well, Lane Kiffin Light anyway...

If he leaves his replacement has to keep the good ties The U has been able to resolve with HS coaches across Fl. The man can recruit it's just his buddy sucks as D coord

Zook,

It depends on who we get. We get Chud and it's on. There were already guys leaving this class after that bowl game.

LMAO!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpqWnxp7178

I-F Thee Carpetbagger's decide to CHIT on the University of Miami, Florida football program.

Then y'all should come to the conclusion that Goldie nd' Marky Mark were NEVER ABOUT bringing back the Hurricanes and what not.

Because ANY major college football head coach WOULD HAVE chit-can his defensive coordinator after his squad finished NO. 116 in the nation regarding team defense.

And y'all know NO. 116 in Cane defensive matters AIN'T what the U is about!!!

Yeah, yeah I never coached a single minute of junior high football. Or even midget football and what not. SO WHAT!!!

There goes mayhem, shooting torpedoes into a sinking ship. The captain jumped off ship before Louisville blew it up. Golden was golfing instead of doing his job. It showed. Hope he can swim, it's way over his head.

LMFAO... those FOOLS at that CANESPACE still want Goldie as head coach. Go bloody figures'.

The above comment comes from the genius that believes Trevor Darling is a defensive tackle...why don't you go off in the corner and continue playing with yourself.

Zook are you going to depart as well?

Seriously though, if AG gets the spot, his recruiting work here can pay handsomely as a future pipeline to the north ...for a few seasons.

He gets another 2-3 years completely buffered, as a White Knight, "Captain Save a HO" - at better pay, quadruple what he ever made at Temple, near double what he makes here..

We get a chance to get a proven coach who can actually deliver, not just do great PR and crisis management.

Think about this: PSU can offer AG a contract lucrative enough to keep him around to establish a soutjern talent pipeline, a crisis management for the next two years, regardless fo wins, post O'Brien
- if he wins - so much the better, if not, they find someone better when he turns into what we found out he is here and go after a better coach once their storm is fully past.

AG did handle the PR and crisis as well as a man could, he just couldn't coach worth a damn.

This could be a win/win/win for everyone!

Sorry, fumble fingers strike yet again.

Lord, don't let this be a cruel tease!

Wonder how much we get as a pay out.

We need Golden to back his crap, take Dino, and get the hell out of Coral Gables. This guy went and looked for an interview at PSU while he was supposed to be coaching our team.

No wonder we got whipped. This idiot has been asleep at the controls the entire 3 weeks.

I wonder if we can get Chud...maybe the Golden payout, if any, will help.
