Five Canes invited to the NFL Combine: QB Morris, OG Linder, OT Henderson, WR Hurns & P O'Donnell

Five Hurricanes were invited to the NFL Combine next month in Indianapolis. Here's the release we just received from UM.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Five Miami Hurricanes have accepted invitations to participate at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, while will be held Feb. 22-25 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The four-day combine will be televised live on NFL Network.

QB Stephen Morris, OG Brandon Linder, OT Seantrel Henderson, WR Allen Hurns and P Pat O’Donnell will be among the more than 300 prospects evaluated by all 32 NFL teams. Linder, Henderson and O’Donnell will work out on Feb. 22, while Morris and Hurns will work outFeb. 23.

Morris, a two-year starter under center and a 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team member, finished his career ranked third in Miami history with 7,896 passing yards and 49 touchdowns. A 2013 All-ACC third-team selection, Morris is one of only two QBs in Miami history with multiple 3,000-yard passing seasons (Gino Torretta).

Linder started all 13 games along the offensive line in 2013 and concluded his career with 37 consecutive starters. He was a second-team All-ACC selection and was named the team’s Offensive MVP at the end of the season. Henderson, a third-team All-ACC selection, played in 12 games along the offensive line, making eight starts at right tackle.

Hurns enjoyed one of the greatest receiving seasons in program history in 2013. The second-team All-ACC receiver set a single-season school record with 1,162 receiving yards and finished with 62 receptions – the third-most in a single season. He finished his career ranked seventh in both receptions (121) and receiving yards (1,891).

In his one season in Coral Gables, O’Donnell made a considerable impact, setting the school single-season record with a 47.1 yards-per-punt average. A first-team All-ACC choice and second-team All-America selection by USA TODAY, O’Donnell booted 23 punts of 50+ yards and downed 19 inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Miami, in its third season under head coach Al Golden, finished 2013 with a 9-4 mark and an appearance in the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando.

Regarding Al Golden, still waiting for concrete news on Penn State. The coaches are on vacation this week, and it's a dead period recruiting wise.

Al has an afternoon news conference scheduled with the media on Monday. It was his regular end-of-the-year talk. We're all wondering if that will happen.

Not confident it will at this point.

We'll see.

I don't think Franklin leaving Vandy is absurd. Yes he has a fan base there and support. But he can become a much bigger name at Miami. He wouldn't be a long term coach but Miami isn't the type of program for long-term guys. It is a stepping stone and that's okay as long as it's successful.

He knows he's inline for a big SEC job. Why come to Miami? Furthermore, if he didn't win from day one this fan base would be howling for his head and screaming he's a terrible coach. Again, Franklin will NEVER come here.

LOUISVILLE just scored AGAIN .

All these coaches want the opportunity to win.
With the recruiting talent that comes out of So Fla. Miami gives them that opportunity.
Since UM can't pay top dollar, as soon as a coach here has national success, the deep pockets will come and take them away.
We need to get the best candidate that can help us win and not worry about how long they are going to stay. Coaches don't stay with a program because they sell out on game day. Look at PSU,they sell out regardless of their circumstances and their coach is gone.
They want to win!!! Which brings them the big $$$$ opportunities.

beedharphong - great post at 836. Good stuff from JaxCane too.

The only SEC job that will be coming open is at UT. Which I would see why he'd take that job over Miami.

thx dee.
So, zook, you tried insulting me, made your case again why Alverage Grifter is the stuff, and I can only take your skipping a response as inability to do so.
I am concerned about a possible replacement, but try to take a strategic attitude about our team. I don't think you do. I think your focus on AG is tactical thinking at best...

JAY Gruden as Miami Head Coach...if we offer, he will come for sure.

See what he has done for Bengals

Don't believe The U goes down withou A Golden.

Also, Spurrier is on his last leg and Florida will not put up with much more of Muschamp's magic.

Florida can go bigger than Franklin. Think they would take Charlie Strong. I think Spurrier has a few more years.

Some of you are a straight up trip to read. Let me get this straight. Golden takes the job that NOBODY wanted originally after two screw-ups in Shannon and Coker. Then he actually sticks around to see us through all this NCAA crap that happened under Shannon and Coker (THE TWO SCREWUPS. All the while he brings in a better recruiting class than Shannon was going to in his fourth year, and then continues to recruit his ass off and after a 9 and 4 season he has the third ranked recruiting class by ESPN, and top 5 according to rivals and scouts. Not to mention he has shown improvement record wise and recruiting talent wise from year to year. All of this and U morons want him to go. Have U lost your mind? You have to look at the big picture not just that tree that just bumped some of you in your forehead. And those who keep clamouring for Butch Davis must not have checked your calenders lately. This ain't 2000, its 2014 and Butch was always outcoached until year 5 when he finally beat FSU. And although Chud will always have a special place with any true Cane, do we really know what we would get with him. Also nobody hated to lose to Louisville more than me, but realistically they, whether you want to hear it or not is more talented than what we are. Hell they should be Strong has been their longer and Louisville's idea of having a high enough SAT score to qualify is being able to read the ABC's and 123's in a can of Chef Boyardee. So those of you crying about losing to a Basketball School in Duke and crying about a stupid bowl game need to grow up and realize this ain't Playstation or XBOX where you take a Middle Tennessee State and win the National Title in one season. It takes time and who can blame Golden or anybody else for that matter if he did indeed go talk with Penn State. It's where he went to college and has a lot of past relationships. He hasn't done or allegedly done anything anybody else would not have done. We would be blessed if the man would stay here at the U instead of going there and really I can't see why anybody would leave the U for Penn State.

If Golden goes to PSU which is a HUGE if, its no big deal we aren't going anywhere with him, we may as well start from scratch without him. This program is years away. The sooner we start the journey the better. My take if he doesn't leave this year he will leave for somewhere in the big ten sooner rather than later. The Problem with Miami fans is they think South Florida is paradise, it's NOT. South Florida sucks. The City Sucks and for the most part the fans suck. Anyone showing any talent will leave as soon as a better part of the country calls. I know I graduated in 70 and went back home and NEVER regretted leaving. Sorry I never wanted to make English my second langue and get paid in sunshine.

SHHHHHH, guys, Zook was right allll along, Alverage Grifter IS the greatest coach in cfb, we CAN'T lose him! No, don't do it, PSU.

You post the insulting comment above directed at me and when I respond in-kind you complain. Stop with the insults and I will do the same.

Most of us aren't saying that we want him to go. We are dealing with the fact that it is a strong possibility. The Miami job is more desirable than it was when Golden took it and that speaks of the man who weathered the storm. Even if he leaves, I will appreciate Al and wish him the best. You can't blame him for going back to his home.

However, if Al leaves Miami will be just fine and so will Al. There are good coaches out there and Blake James will find him.

Championship matters, how many wins have Al Golden has had against top 25 programs?? Want to know a big fat 0! This is the guy you want. Yes he's a good recruiter that's doesnt translate to him 'coaching' these guys up on the field

Let me make this perfectly clear, I don't think Golden is going anywhere. It would be great if he did, just don't see PSU taking a chance on him, he really hasn't done anything, if we see it, don't you think PSU does. Final reason, he's a Joe Pa guy, I think they would rather not go that route.

I still dont know how Chickllo started all season. He did absolutley nothing.. Youd think Golden would pull him for the young DT?? Nope he stuck with a mediocre player at the position becsuse he has senioroity..

I can't wait for Golden to go!

Who's out there? Jimmy Johnson, Don Shula, Jeff Stoutland, Ron Zook!

Think of the possibilities!!!!!

Refs manufacturing drives for Ohio State.

Bob,
I posted an analysis why PSU would absolutely want AG right now, despite his shoddy GAME coaching. He served us a particular purpose very, very well; one that PSU easily recognizes he can do for them too, regardless of his GAME coaching prowess.

Great points Jax and Truth.

Zook, if you took my ribbing you about your devotion to AG, as it is your primary argumentative stance, as a personal insult, then respond with a assertion that I don't think before I write, but when I eviscerate your followup argument with PSU's probable perspective on AG's allure - you can only dodge my points and point back to my ribbing without still addressing any of the rebuttal's substance? What is that?

Like I have said before, I don't need to insult anything about your identity as a person, your personal life, or your intelligence per se; I just have to knock down your arguments.

I try to find what we can agree on as Canes fans before resorting to adversarial positions.

I really don't care about any of the personal feuding that goes on here - who's muslim, who has the best job, been the fan the longest, certainly not religion or politics - this is all about Miami Football and CFB.

When one has the facts or the law, one argues them. When one doesn't have either, one argues an adversary's character....

Oh yeah, Bob, your take on Miami as a location - spot effing on!

Truth, it takes time to build a program to be able to beat top 25 teams. First as I said he followed two doofus's in Shannon and Coker who never replenished the talent on the roster, so it isn't like he had a bunch of talent to work with. Answer me this how many did Butch Davis beat in his third year? Zilcho. I have seen this program go through this before and it is upsetting but if we were in year 5 I would be bitchin like some of you but this is only year three and we have just found out about the sanctions so until year 5 gets here I ain't gonna start until then. I will say this though, all of those pissing and moaning about D'nofrio, need to take a look at Coley. He hasn't never shown me jacksquat even when he was at FSU. At least I have seen D'nofrio build a defense once he has had to time to get his guys in there. I know this everything has gotten better since Golden got here from the product on the field to recruiting to the sheer direction of the program, which was not the case with Shannon or Coker. You want somebody to blame for this mess, blame them two not the guy who stuck around to fix the crap those two jerkoffs left behind.

Tub, I agree.

Our former commit Clemson's Rover #20 Kearse finally made a play after being lost, avoiding contact, and being a wasted body the entire game.

Clemson's #1 Bryant is the new Megatron.

Champs, Really the best argument for AG I have heard so far.

If this AG to PSU thing is bogus, then I will take some solace in your analysis. AG has done some great things here, some good things here, and some very questionable things, so thanks for that perspective.

Well you cant blame Golden if he leaves.. I expect them offer him a starting pay at least 4 mill a year and he will not turn that down with Penn State being his Alma Mater. Maybe hell be a man of his words for a change and stick it out but you know the old saying "money talks BS wallks!"

60-70 degree weather in January, beautiful women literally everywhere, and international flavor is my version of paradise....some people can't handle a diverse community but that's ok, Miami is not for everybody

Posted by: beedharphong | January 03, 2014 at 11:36 PM

That happens when U argue a topic for hours, in 2 more hours you'll be Ron Zook.

If U want to blame anyone blame those who got us into the NCAA mess, those who have *historically* penny-pinched the football program and those who hired RS and Coker--the administration.

Really nothing new mentioned in champions post, the excuses and Butch comparisons are just so dry that they've become a mirage.

Since Cooker and Shannon are dufus. How many championships do the dufuses have? How many top 25 teams have the dufuses beat. How many top 25 teams Al has played in his coaching career and won that was ranked at the end of the year? How many championships has Al won in his career?Who is the real dufuses here? News Flash We don't have the 3rd rank recruiting class anymore.Quality will always beat out quantity. If you like Golden showers you have to go to Penn state see ya. No more excuses.

I have one question? Can we start the victory dance yet? We'll call it the Fans of Miami Hurricanes' Football Dance. Lol.

Canes... the class has 14 of the top 200 players. It has quality. You may hate Golden but you can't deny the class that he's put together over much bigger schools

Coker and Shannon were a part of 4 of our 5 titles--they are complete doofuses lol!

A Cane fan has the right to say that, but to say it out of the motivation to save Golden's face is ridiculous and treason, because he hasn't accomplished anything on par with either of them.

What will the Al Golden fans do if he accepts the offer?

I would like to see complete support of the new coach.

But since Larry Coker and Randy Shannon receive treatment unbecoming of championship winning Hurricanes. There is evidence that level of class is not within those Al Golden fans.

ChampCane... so you think the fans supporting the current head coach would not support the new head coach? Something doesn't add up. It would be much more likely that the fans who turn everything Al Golden does into a negative would be more likely to complain about the next coach as well. You guys don't want to be happy.

Ouch. ba-zing HTC, not following my own advice not argue where pointless...

Whoa there, I was agreeing with Championships in that it took BD some time to get there...RS and Coker were true Canes, who went when they needed to, but did leave the cupboard bare and whether his fault, Rs's regime did beget Shapiro - I know, I know - shalala. agreed.

Jax, you might be cold here in Jacksonville. So you are excused for feeling that way.

The treatment Al Golden has received is spectacular, as compared to either of the previous coaches. The fans of Al Golden are placing blame still on the previous coaches. For him not having equal success as them.

So there is evidence that the new coach will get blamed for something he did not do, as well.

Most of us aren't saying that we want him to go. We are dealing with the fact that it is a strong possibility. The Miami job is more desirable than it was when Golden took it and that speaks of the man who weathered the storm. Even if he leaves, I will appreciate Al and wish him the best. He should get on with it, then.

I will be happy with any coach who develops the talent, takes us even near there, and even leaves right after.

WOW. Clemson didn't Clemson. Any defeat of Alabummer and OSU twice in the same year, when it matters are the cfb gods smiling upon us.

Wasn't trying to zing U, I was serious. That stuff will wear on U.

Randy had support until year four when the program fell apart. Golden would have the same issues if the program stepped backwards next year. A lot of fans have turned against Golden. I'm giving him another year but he has to get a new DC. May not be necessary however.

The fans on this blog that trash Golden no matter what will continue to trash the next coach. If he gains a good recruit, they trash it. Shows they like to complain more than anything.

All these coaches want the opportunity to win.
With the recruiting talent that comes out of So Fla. Miami gives them that opportunity.

Which is why I can't see Chudzinski, who is unproven, or Schiano would want this job. Just reach out to someone hungry for the opportunity that won't leave. Reach out to someone who wants to be a college coach and has already been to the NFL. Reach out to Butch.

What a season of cfb. What a way to send out the BCS series.. We may have a chance at a new beginning....Life is good as a Cane either way.

Randy had support until year four when the program fell apart. Golden would have the same issues if the program stepped backwards next year. A lot of fans have turned against Golden. I'm giving him another year but he has to get a new DC. May not be necessary however.

"Golden WOULD have the same issues" ??

Do you read this blog?

Always good to see the wimpy Urban Liar go down. Did he cry?

Shannon also received great treatment when he became coach. I really wanted Shannon to do well, but he didn't, Golden hasn't either. I agree he's brought in great recruits.

I admitted he was in over his head after the bowl game. That was awful to watch.

Lobbying for another job makes me hate this guy now. I'm really done with Golden and I want him out. A guy who doesn't want to be here is useless to us.

I don't think you should hate Al Golden if he leaves. He stuck with us through the NCAA crapstorm and Miami fans still trash him. It's not like he's leaving for greener pastures, he's leaving for the school he played at. We should appreciate that he got us through the storm and wish him luck.

$2.148 million dollars is not weathering a storm. That is a day in the sunshine. Until 1 February 2020, if he wanted it.

Texans are going to move out of state. Since Charlie Strong is taking the Texas job.

Congratulations to a top man and coach. I hope he gets to destroy Florida, soon. Since they chose the less qualified Will Muschamp over him. Because of Strong's choice in his wife.

That is in the bottom third of coach salaries. He could have found more two years ago. Having to sit in front of recruits and convince them to come to Miami when media was saying Miami might not even have a football team is weathering the storm as a coach.

Well you cant blame Golden if he leaves.. I expect them offer him a starting pay at least 4 mill a year and he will not turn that down with Penn State being his Alma Mater. Maybe hell be a man of his words for a change and stick it out but you know the old saying "money talks BS wallks!"

He should get on with it, then.

The meeting is probably a formality. They don't delay their search and make this trip if he won't genuinely listen. Furthermore, he knows what taking this meeting means to the program he's building. He can kick rocks. Coaches don't leave []_[] for another college team--they go pro. If there is another University he'll entertain, he's not the right man to recruit for []_[] and lead []_[]. If he's not truly committed, how can he tell anyone else they should be? Business or not, this []_[] needs someone committed. Mario should have stayed. He'd be next in line.

This is a great opportunity to get this right (not that Al was wrong). Bring back Butch and stop chasing all these carpetbaggers.

Please get Butch back, he would love to return here
