Five Canes invited to the NFL Combine: QB Morris, OG Linder, OT Henderson, WR Hurns & P O'Donnell

Five Hurricanes were invited to the NFL Combine next month in Indianapolis. Here's the release we just received from UM.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Five Miami Hurricanes have accepted invitations to participate at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, while will be held Feb. 22-25 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The four-day combine will be televised live on NFL Network.

QB Stephen Morris, OG Brandon Linder, OT Seantrel Henderson, WR Allen Hurns and P Pat O’Donnell will be among the more than 300 prospects evaluated by all 32 NFL teams. Linder, Henderson and O’Donnell will work out on Feb. 22, while Morris and Hurns will work outFeb. 23.

Morris, a two-year starter under center and a 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team member, finished his career ranked third in Miami history with 7,896 passing yards and 49 touchdowns. A 2013 All-ACC third-team selection, Morris is one of only two QBs in Miami history with multiple 3,000-yard passing seasons (Gino Torretta).

Linder started all 13 games along the offensive line in 2013 and concluded his career with 37 consecutive starters. He was a second-team All-ACC selection and was named the team’s Offensive MVP at the end of the season. Henderson, a third-team All-ACC selection, played in 12 games along the offensive line, making eight starts at right tackle.

Hurns enjoyed one of the greatest receiving seasons in program history in 2013. The second-team All-ACC receiver set a single-season school record with 1,162 receiving yards and finished with 62 receptions – the third-most in a single season. He finished his career ranked seventh in both receptions (121) and receiving yards (1,891).

In his one season in Coral Gables, O’Donnell made a considerable impact, setting the school single-season record with a 47.1 yards-per-punt average. A first-team All-ACC choice and second-team All-America selection by USA TODAY, O’Donnell booted 23 punts of 50+ yards and downed 19 inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Miami, in its third season under head coach Al Golden, finished 2013 with a 9-4 mark and an appearance in the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando.

Regarding Al Golden, still waiting for concrete news on Penn State. The coaches are on vacation this week, and it's a dead period recruiting wise.

Al has an afternoon news conference scheduled with the media on Monday. It was his regular end-of-the-year talk. We're all wondering if that will happen.

Not confident it will at this point.

We'll see.

You are aware that Randy Shannon was paid less than a million when he won 9 games? While having his boss attempt to receive money from a ponzi scheme thief and constantly undercut his authority.

Hey Mahoney!

ChampCane... please show us where Shannon was paid less than a million.

His first three years on his first contract. You didn't know that. That was a clear reason why they give him the job to start with.

gave

It was low but it was not that low.

If Golden leaves, no way the admin touches Butch, who would be a good choice. Most other names being mentioned are out of our traditional relative price range. At 2mm or so, you are chasing a college HC from a non powerhouse or a non top tier coordinator from the pros.

That's where the market is without more juice.

But that is a huge reason that many ask, why pay Al Golden $2.148 million dollars to win less with more talent? While you paid another less than a million.

^^^^^^

Lol

Kilt it!!!

Champ, continuing to cite an RS salary doesn't make it true. If you are right and they had paid him more would he have been a better coach?

Jaxcane, HTC and others,

When Golden came in, many folks did not like his being a MAC coach. If a new coach came in with different credentials. like Chud, Butch, Schiano, Cristobal (all with UM history), or even Petrino or Smart (Success at a big time program) or anyone with a proven record (Strong, whose team plays like the UM of old), they would receive support from the serious fans on this blog.

And that is because we would know that they have what it takes in their history.

I supported Golden when he came in. After watching his teams wilt too often, I do not believe he is what UM needs. I do not believe he connects with our players. I believe D'Onofrio is a total train wreck in inspiring kids. They are Big Ten - PSU coaches at heart. Not UM football. Grind it out football.

If you watched the incredible speed of some of these bowl teams, grind it out is essentially gone as a dominant strategy...It will only work if balanced by a good ball control passing game, like Bama.

Again, Golden has done good things and is a quality guy. He is a strong recruiter and that would be a big loss for us.

With a new coach, the UM haters might continue their adolescent stuff on this blog. But most of us would get behind a credible coach.

Hopin' for change...We need it.

Just so U know any doofus can be along for the ride on a championship team. They were both either coordinators, a player or a position coach at the time. Not the Head Coach, so that argument doesn't hold water. Golden stays here five years and if we are still in the same mess I am man enough to admit I was wrong. Just remember neither them nor Butch Davis were that great in year three either unless you are looking at the overall record of Coker who was in the midst of losing the program as it started to decay. Some of you look at Butch and remember the FSU comeback and the sugar bowl win over Florida, you fail to remember in years one thru four and really up to that FSU game, him looking like he didn't know how to win a big game. Remember that 66 to whatever blowout to Syracuse, or the 4th qtr collapses to East Carolina and Virginia Tech. Some of ya'll like to look and cherry pick the games you want to remember rather than look at the whole picture from a logical standpoint. Oh and last time I checked he didn't do all that good at UNC losing a bunch of games he should have won except those of course that he coached against us and won when Shannon was the coach here.

But that is a huge reason that many ask, why pay Al Golden $2.148 million dollars to win less with more talent? While you paid another less than a million.

Golden was paid more than Shannon due to being dealt a hand that wasn't his fault. The University did not make Golden aware of the severity of the accusations they were facing so when it all blew up they had to give him more to make up for it. Because honestly, Golden wouldn't have been wrong to walk away but who would have coached here when the yahoo story broke?

Since he was the highest paid coach, ever, at Miami. He was not going anywhere. Especially since he still has not defeated a more talented and better coached team once. That is the American Dream. millions of dollars in pay, but no success in your field of work.

I the University of Miami is fortunate enough to have the Mac staff be hired away back up north, and the people in authority at Miami were able to bring Butch Davis back, our squad would have more credibility than ever could be thought of with Goldie!!!

Defensive guys like Bethel, Valentine, and Thomas wouldn't be straddling the fence b/c of the defensive scheme!

Butch can say look fellas I lead the group of coaches that built the best college football team of all time.

We'd go from ranked in the 90's in defense to top 30-40 in one year!

Offensively he wouldn't put up with dump isht from qb's. Power running game! Tight end would be used, etc.

Exactly bro! Irrefutable

Yup. We get a good or great hire, we salvage this class and pick up some, lose others. No worse and a true possibilty of better. Don't have to dread the offseason of more of the same. He was waiting for his big break? Great. Win/win/win scenario.

Randy and Cooker have been gone for at least 3 years. Under the cloud of the NCAA. Al has manage to get a raise and an extention with sub par performance After 3 seasons Al still blames the NCAA cloud and some bloggers blame Randy recruits. Al is the head coach. He is responsible. Al was ask a question after the bowl game. Didn't have an answer. No goal. No time table. No clue after 3 years. But he knew how to manufacture himself a raise. Don't hate Al. Hate the excuses from him and other bloggers.

Conference Bowl Records this year ?

BEST ?

worst ?

Go ahead, U take a guess ?

Harriet - I agree. The school needs to work through their personal issues (if any) with Butch, have a man hug, along with a firm hand shake, and a high five session, and move ahead from past grievances, which I am sure were personality issues on both sides.

The fact is, is that Butch is our Nick Saban (as he has proven it before). Moreover, he has a lot to prove having not completed what he wanted at UNC and the Browns. He will come in with a fire in his belly with the attitude that he will want to go out on top.

Also, he is one of the very few coaches that have ever worked on incentive clauses. He puts his money where his mouth is.

Donna/Blake - go get 'em and work things out with Butch and lets have UM back in the Championship within two years!

:) c'mon man.

Well this I know, if we lose AG, and do NOT get a quality coach and asst's, then this STELLAR class we have coming in will be UF and FSU bound. Strong is leaving UL, so they won't be going there. We're gonna be in a world of hurt, and it's going to be once AGAIN be a rebuilding process. Really worried about this class.

Butch is 62 and burned bridges everywhere. It would be awesome to have him back but it's a pipe dream.

Just remember those of you who are screaming for Butch. For a few years you wanted Butch canned. He was a bad gameday coach. We were blown out many times under his watch. It was his fifth year before things turned around. Maybe you shouldn't be so harsh to coaches in their third year. lol

The media, fans, Miami administration and top level boosters all completely backed Al Golden. Now the main strength attributed to Al Golden is how he did not know about the NCAA investigation. And helped Miami avoid serious charges, against them.

The chief cause of Miami's lack of serious charges was Randy Shannon's herculean effort to keep the ponzi scheme thief away from Miami's football players.

The albatross' around his neck were his supervisors that worked continuously with Nevin Shapiro. Who's main purpose, other than being a nearly billion dollar thief, was to get Randy Shannon fired.

That hostile work environment was followed by a hostile release of his contractual funds.

The revision of the facts is apparent, by fans and the media. The tenure of Al Golden was very successful for his image, off the field. And the Golden and Mark D'Onofrio's income.

D'Onofrio made a half million dollars for being completely unsuccessful in his profession. While Al Golden made over four times that. He then was less successful, on the football field. Than what was accomplished by the real, while distinctly paid less, savior of Miami's football program.

I want the Canes to get back to their four down linemen, attacking defense and attacking linebackers and man to man underneath pass coverage. And start sacking some QBs.

Get in super shape like the old days.
Get some big ball carriers and some tight end receivers who can get you a guaranteed five yards when you need them.
Get some convincing wins against tough opponents like FSU and VT and Michigan and Zero State and Notre Damn.
Get the past Cane players to return to the sidelines
to advise and fire up the youngsters like Michael Irwin.

Get the stands full of rabid fans with one voice:
DEE FENCE!!
Rock and Roll, Baby.
Get the SWAG back because you deserve it, not because it is cool.

Not sure I agree or follow here. The main reason we were able to get the resolution we did was not because of anything Rand did, because as you can see Nevin was able to circumvent Randy and do whatever the h@ll he pleased anyway (not to discredit what Randy said and tried to do).

The #1 and 2 reason we were able to steer clear was:

1. Leadership, who chose to disclose, cooperate, and self-impose.

2. The NCAA misconduct. That's what I believe and what has been reported to be the reasons the COI handed down those penalties. It was not because of anything the little thief was NOT able to do or NOT have access to while he was connected to our football program.

Canefan 72 is a caveman. He just likes old football. Welcome to the 2010s

If and when the time comes the fan-base should start a petition, internet or paper to ask that they bring Butch back. I'd co-sign that.

I wish the little circle of girl friends who keep saying the admin worked with a ponzi schemer and RS stood tall would give it a rest.

Coaches don't take money from boosters. Or all least legally. The admin does take $ from supporters, that's what they do. What evidence is there that they knew Shapiro was a crook?

If RS knew why didn't he tell them? Maybe he tried but they couldn't understand him?

Like ive said.....everyone has a price.....25 million contract, that's unbelievable....

UM can get whomever it wants if it is willing to pay.....strong was a big surprise.....

golden stays since at this point the administration probably feels it has a coach "cheap" now....golden will bolt with the right money but penn state i doubt will pay up for him....

cane72 said stephen moris saved Golden. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Yeah. He saved Golden from losing to Duke with a masteful performance

He saved UM from losing to FSU
He saved UM from losing to Va Tech. Wow. what a QB
He saved UM from losing to Teddy Brdigewater

Yeah right.

Calvin, Cane 72, Harriet Tubman, Cooll cat (and others): RACIST GHETTO PIGS. DISSAPPOINTED THAT CHARLIE STRONG CHOSE TEXAS?

THERE IS NO ROOM IN THE WORLD FOR YOUR RACISM. DUDES. ITS NO LONGER 1963.

GOLDEN STAYS AND HE SHOWS WHAT HE CAN DO WITH THIS RECRUITING CLASS. tHEN, WE CAN TALK ABOUT GETTING RID OF HIM. FOR NOW, YOURS IS RACIST, STUPID TALK AND NONESENSE ABOUT 3 DOWN LINEMAN BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Butch, age 62, is not returning. Move along.

Chud is an interesting choice, but he has little HC experience. At our price point, you either get that, a lower tier college head coach or a low tier NFL coordinator. That's the market at a couple million bucks per.

OK....penn state websites are reporting al golden has accepted job.....good, the best for all parties.

one door closes.....another door opens.....UM will now be smart and get the right hire....I hope

Strong to be a longhorn. Time for Tub O and Co. to get a new race card. Theirs is worn out.

Shocking that success attracts interest, regardless of skin tone.

Golden did not use proper English the majority of the time. He rarely spoke correctly he just duped you with his shirt and tie. Shannon had a big blow up with Shapiro in the administration building about staying away from his players. If the administration didn't know what the deal was they didn't want to know. Golden accept the job please.

I still think al golden stays at UM no matter what those sites are saying....

this is al golden at his best.....DAMAGE CONTROL, what a perfect way to defer dnofrio and him getting blow out....

he will meet with penn state (obligated) but I bet he says no.....all much about nothing....

his wife aint leaving coral gables or miami for cold penn state....better shopping here, lol

Coach 0geron or Schiano! The program is attractive now thanks to Golden! Duke and S Coley are program changer 7-0 with Duke healthy then we go 2-4 without him. The offense runs through Duuuuke and he is the heart of the team! I've read that Chad Thomas May be this years Duke on defense!!!

I'm excited about he future either way.

Yeah I will believe it when I see it. It does feel like he is just leveraging his garbage A@@ defensive coaches and scheme. If he is smart he will go to psu because it's not going to work in Miami and he can continue to to learn to coach on the fly without major winning expectations. He won't even have to make excuses about the defense because it will be their style of play.

I don't think PSU will offer charlie strong money....so in effect it would just be a lateral move....the PSU situation would be no better.....

however I also think he knows he cant get past FSU and with the playoff system going into effect next year it will be extremely hard for him to advance at UM plus he still has the dnofrio/coley issues....

so with the right money he would go.....but again I don't think the money will be there for him to justify leaving...

If offered I think Golden will leave. No way UM extends his 2020 deal so he isn't trying to leverage it. If you were planning on staying here under all circumstances, you wouldn't interview. Too disruptive to recruiting/morale/etc.

Tally's story of the big RS-Shapiro blow up (conveniently) in the admin building is hardly convincing. Why didn't RS tell someone in the admin? If you allege he did, why hasn't he said that?

I've got the perfect staff solutions:

AD: Jimmy Johnson: He's 70 and hasn't been in football for years- but hey remember the 80s??

HC: Butch Davis: 62, scandal prone, and left UM high and dry! Lost many games here before success and was mediocre at UNC! Instant Winner!

OC: CHUD! He'd totally take a demotion and pay cut cuz DA U son!!! Never mind he just got fired, and he's been out of college ball for a decade! MIAMI GUY!

DC: Greg Schiano: He coached here once! He will definitely come back for less money and demotion too. He's not an ego maniac or insane person at all! We will blow up victory formations and rig captain voting ALL DAY.

Rest of Staff:

QB: Dorsey: OMG have you seen Cam Newton??!!!!! Never coached in college? So what. Never recruited? NBD
WR: Irvin: He will teach those punks hard work and valuable life skills regarding proper scissor use.
TE: Shockey: Remember the glory days!? Also, Patriotism!
DL: Sapp: Hall of Fame player; Instant credibility! Financial Management 101 Professor on the side.
LB: Ray Lewis: See Sapp, who cares if they've never coached! Team legal counselor also.
DBs: Ed Reed! He was a 2star recruit so you know he can get the most out of talent! OMG 2001

NATIONAL TITLE BOUND 2014-2050! This report was brought to you by delusional fans that don't understand how collegiate athletics work for small private universities with limited funding and who have been under silent sanctions for the past 3 years.

The administration never meant for randy to be successful they only wanted him to clean up UM's image. IMO they brought in whipple to be the coach in waiting but he proved to be some absolute garbage. Randy of course had his coaching flaws but he was never this bad with a tougher schedule. Why would he tell the administration about Shapiro if he knew they were trying to undercut him with whipple? Imagine what this team would have looked like with Bridgewater storm and a defense.

Tally, you are truly delusional. You are the only person who "knows" these things. The U brought in Whipple to ultimately be the head coach--that is a gem.

Strong to be a longhorn. Time for Tub O and Co. to get a new race card. Theirs is worn out.

Shocking that success attracts interest, regardless of skin tone.

U wake up thinking race every morning because its the only crutch or "skill" U have. Sooo insecure, emotionally inferior, and meek. No one has ever posed the argument that U project.

Again, Race is not a mutually exclusive topic or institution. Racists like yourself have made it very dynamic and covert in its functionality.

Totally irrelevant post for whats going on, on this blog right now. U have a huge chip on your shoulder mountaincane coward.

Anyone still *wanting* to believe that UM doesn't have racist fans because the University is in diverse South Florida... lol!

Dudes coming out the closet today, because their massa don't want them no more LOL!

^^Butthurt because his skin crutch doesn't provide the utility he was accustomed to anymore ROTF!!

Gator fan here, and long time S. Florida resident (who grew up rooting for the Schnelly Canes). UM will be just fine whether Golden stays or goes. If he stays - continuity, keep stockpiling local talent. AG just needs to tweak his coaching staff a bit and things will be great. If he goes -- James Franklin would come here in a heartbeat. You'd lose a few recruits, but Franklin would bring in a truckload more.

Don't know why there is so much doom and gloom out there over this.

I was so Happy to hear Strong was going to UTexas last night, until I realized that left Franklin in play for PSU still.

Add in that Rivals has reported the job offered to AG...which almost ensures that AG won't be offered the job...

Dangit!
