Golden ends silence, reaffirms commitment to Hurricanes

Hurricanes head football coach Al Golden released a statement Sunday, reaffirming his commitment to the University of Miami:

"There has been much speculation concerning my future at the University of Miami. While I am flattered that our progress at The U during an extremely difficult period of time is recognized, I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position. We are eager to welcome our student athletes back to campus next week and visit with prospective student-athletes and their families beginning January 15."

Whether you wanted Golden or not he is still the HC of the UM. The real ? is the DC position and whether he will replace his long time friend. Getting B. Davis as the DC would be the correct move if he would accept. If AG does turn it around I do not think anyone would be surprised if he left UM for the north where he was born and raised if this should occur . I sincerely hope that BD is offered and accepts the DC position Go Canes

Cane Minus Golden writes in some style that conveys he was in the room or inside Golden's head. Just speculation on her/his part.

Let's go get Butch! 28–23 overall and 15–17 in the ACC during his last stint! 1-2 in Bowl Games! On watch during the academic and agent scandals! 62 years old and 15 years removed from relevance! INSTANT WINNER***

*** After the time machine is invented as we can get back to 2000.

Cane - golden= greatness

That was a great post. And that is the greatest blog name, ever.

Butch Davis is going to come work for this retard. Butch assembled the greatest college team ever and he's been an nfl coordinator and coach. You think he's gonna come work for a fake joe paterno.

Put down the crack pipe

Though I mentioned the weather as as in the category of lol, no one knows all the reasons that were weighed in his decision. But as James posted, family and quality of life does weigh in heavy. maybe not to Al cause he is consumed with football year round. Making 2M+ living in a Mansion in CGables, with a boat that you can use year round sounds pretty attractive to a wife and family. Depending on the individual, giving up that quality of life to make an extra million and live buried in snow for months, is not worth it.

Well said!!

Go Canes!!

I just asked my wife to shoot me. she said no, keep the paychecks coming. Then she said, you know what I could buy instead of those season tix. I think she's right about the 2nd part.

In case you missed it, my post referred to fans such as junkie stuck 15 years in the past deifying a coach that was mediocre in his last job and was ultimately fired due to scandal. Al Golden is the coach of the 2014 Miami Hurricanes and I support him. But let's keep living in the past, I'm sure it will be effective.

cfl, I wanted to come back to the games. I haven't been to any since Al Golden was hired. I miss them a ton.

Yall are all fn idiots!!!!

Idiots!!!

He will win 8-9 gms a yr and Shalala will be just fine with those results.

This MOFO, says that PSU is like going home and keeps quiet all weekend...PSU does not want his staff and AG now come and says that he is staying put at Miami...LOL..

Miami gets the REJECT!!!

MIAMI RECORD IN 2014...6-6 OR 7-5...

I think he made himself available and was willing to wait until this evening before he withdrew his name from consideration. This little episode tarnishes his credibility.

He should have put this out Friday.

Love the present day canes. 19 yards rushing for an entire game...nice job. We got massacered by Louisville. ..that's fine for me necause we're following the process. I should be grateful.

The reject...exactly.

Tomorrow he going to say we're building this thing up. Maybe we can beat Duke next season.

Yeah there is no loyalty in that if he wanted to be here he wouldn't have needed to go on the interview. Since this is a business they should make him accountable for these putrid schemes and coaches. The top tier coaches and other top schools are celebrating because golden decided to stay. Would someone's wife or girlfriend be happy about you entertaining other offers? Administration is terrible. Never gonna win a championship with these coaches.

Canesport gets it wrong once again. What a surprise!

Penn State Interviewer's First Question: Golden are you seriously considering leaving Miami?

Golden Answer: I have taken this interview out of my loyalty and appreciation for what Penn State University has done for me. Hopefully, I will be able to answer what the next coach will encounter with the still pending NCAA sanctions, that's the least I can do.

Penn State Interviewer: Thank you Al! Please know that you are our first choice and you can name your terms.

Golden Answer: Again, I appreciate your kind words and offer, but I have promised my players, the administration and fans that I am here to turn the program around and win championships and have every intention of doing so.

Penn State Interviewer: I know you will Al! I am just sorry it won't be with Penn State...

BINGO. :-)

Don't buy seasin tickets. Just gwt a qhopper eveey saturday.

I guess we used up all our good fortune when Mizzou took Haith. More irrelevance, more excuses, more trying to turn this program into Penn State south.

I know what you mean champ. From my house, I can be IN the St. Johns river and go fishing in 15 minutes. As long as Alverage, (I am just borrowing the name since it fits if that's ok), is there I won't be. Only reason I think about making a 41/2 hour trip is if he gets new staff. He has proven he can't coach, so the new staff would have to be special. Packers/49ers is a good game. Go Frank Gore

There seems to be plenty of ideas here, but, I wonder how many here have ever coached anything, but, sanlot ball at best? Who wouldn't interview at their alma mater if a position came open? I don't see where he did anything wrong. Should Munchack get the job he was also a graduate of psu. They still need to build on the defense and that is being addressed by the number of defensive linemen that are on the list. The team will be alright and are headed in the right direction. As for the coach wanting a deal done today, no school is going to be held over a barrel, so, that just doesn't wash. Football at the division 1 level is a business, better, run by those who have a vested interest in the business. So, take a step back, take a deep breath and watch as the sun will still come up tomorrow. Go Canes.

He would have earned a minimum of $1.2 million more annually had he accepted the five months of the year weather challenged Penn State job...that's an additional $6 million over a five year period. Do you really believe it came down to the weather??

Family does matter. I worked at University about the size of UM that went through a coaching search a few years back. The guy they ended up hiring actually left a more lucrative position because of some family issues.

That said, I'm not sure this was about money.

I love all the people who think Golden shouldn't interview for a higher paying job. Give them the chance and see what they do... :-)

There are probably a lot of intangibles here and we still don't know if he was their top candidate. I think there are some real political issues at PSU that are probably hampering their HC search. You end up getting all these constituencies involved, some with more say than others. Depending on the institution the "booster" constituency has more or less say. Oddly enough, at State U's it's usually more. The booster group at privates usually is not as football oriented. I think there are probably some people up at PSU who just can't let go of Paterno.

We will probably never know if he told them no yesterday or today or ever even got to the point where he was actually offered the job.

As for the "this program" crowd, what program. The school has been football irrelevant for over a decade. Get over it. Guess what Miami does not have $7 million dollars to hire Nick Saban and isn't going to roll the dice on a 62 year old ex coach who hasn't had a job offer in 3 years. Maybe there is a better candidate than Golden, but he is who you have. I think if you give him the 6 years it took Butch Davis to get the program to 11-1 you might be surprised at what you have. If he stays that long. Don't be shocked if he wins 10 games in 2016 if he's not a candidate for a NFL job. And I will repeat Butch Davis did not beat FSU or VT until he had been at UM for 6 years. Golden is only in his third year. You guys need to stop having selective memory. I remember people wanting him fired.

Derp Derp 19 yards rushing, nothing to do with Morris being sacked 5 times for -59 yds. I remember when I first learned how college football rules worked.

LOL!!! "Thanks Al"...pathetic

Now after talking a interview just yesterday, he is trying and will be successful in convincing *his fans* that he "was never a candidate" LOL!

Yall boyfriend met with another woman to discuss leaving U, but the other woman refused to accept his side-piece (D'No) and wanted to meet with other E-Harmony matches before making a decision, so your entitled BF "decided" to stay. He was rejected!

Boy have yall created a monster. We deserve what we get.

I think he made himself available and was willing to wait until this evening before he withdrew his name from consideration. This little episode tarnishes his credibility.
He should have put this out Friday.

Exactly and in other words--he is a liar.

"There has been much speculation concerning my future at the University of Miami. While I am flattered that our progress at The U during an extremely difficult period of time is recognized, I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position.

Real world people! Real world! Miami is all of our favorite team...doesn't mean Golden owes us (fans) any loyalty (just because doing something nice is good doesn't mean not doing it is bad). If you really like some chic, does her boyfriend owe you the courtesy of thinking about your feelings every time he makes a decision?

That said, I was excited as hell about the prospect of a new staff (at least D coordinator)

Damn those Jaguars.

It's being reported that Mike Munchak being fired took the job out of Mayhem's man's hands.

Another reason for me to dislike these hometown Jaguars. Every team that loss to them, fired their coach.

It was never about him owing Us anything as far as my argument is concerned. I'm posting to the people who feel like they owe him their undying allegiance. This weekend should've woken them up to what U call the "real world".

But it won't as Golden has provided the needed spin to keep them faithful.

Based on the absolutely horrendous reporting on the Golden/Penn State story no one on this blog knows what occurred.

At this stage there was a report that Golden agreed to be interviewed. Now weigh that information with Rivals.com saying that Penn State had offered Golden the job and he was going to announce he was accepting the job on Monday. Also, the radio guy who announced that he had information from an unimpeachable source that Golden was calling the team together last night to inform them he had accepted the Penn State job.

I repeat...no one on this blog knows what occurred...including me!!

The haters will once again use this situation as an opportunity to attack Al Golden...what's new?? They also attacked Butch Davis, which played a major role in him leaving the Canes. Now they are clamoring to have Butch back as Miami's coach.

Al Golden is a high integrity man and when he gives his overview then, and only then, will you and I have the facts as to what truly transpired.

Either way...Golden is still Miami's coach and that is wildly good news!!

Tubman do your arms and/or brain hurt reaching so hard to make these dumb connections and half-cocked conspiracies? Al Golden isn't some evil genius. He's a football coach and I'm nearly 99% sure he doesn't have the time or energy to create this shadowy image you constantly paint. Next time you have one of these amazing thoughts, write it down on a piece of paper, crumple up that paper, and shove it directly up your rectum. Your ideas are more useful there.

Some of you on here have to be the most illogical dumbasses that I have ever seen. Let me get this straight if you had somebody from where you are from come up and asked you about interviewing for a job that will pay you more money and is where you were from, some of you are trying to tell me that you wouldn't at least listen to what they had to say? Get the F--k outta here if you say no because U are a damn liar. The man only did what anyone of the rest of us would have done in the same situation, so get off your uppity, sell my soul to the U lord, hypocritical arses. I know we as Canes fans could not have our program in any better hands than those of Coach Golden.

Ron Zook you're an ex um player, don't u have the ability to contact golden? You're the one who stated multiple times that golden wanted to reach out to ex players so surely u can contact someone can't you? For an ex player u seem very out of the loop.

Simply the best post of the New Year, maybe the best post ever!!

"Multiple sources told CaneSport.com and Blue White Illustrated, working in tandem on Saturday, that Golden had an agreement in principle to become Penn State's Head Coach.

A press conference announcing the hire was set to take place on Monday.

But overnight something happened that inspired Penn State to agree to talk to former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak on Sunday morning.

CaneSport had previously reported that Golden expected the deal finalized today. But when rumors of the Munchak flirtation circulated Sunday morning, sources told CaneSport that Golden informed Penn State that he wanted a contract to sign today. When it didn't happen by 4 p.m. - with pressure growing throughout South Florida - he backed out of the deal.

The withdrawal came via the statement from Miami's Sports Information office. "

He was out of here and despite all the spinning; Golden is still here ONLY because Penn State wasn't intimidated by his commands and/or demands into making a rash decision on an unproven commodity!!!!

That's not loyalty; that's convenience............

Disappointed he's still here but it is, what it is...
Dang Titans!!!!!!!!

'Championships is all that matters'...another great post!!

You allowing all those facts to get in the way of the haters normal dialogue will cause an uproar.

Let me get this straight...you believe Al Golden was calling all of the ex-players and telling them what he was going to do or not do.

Seriously, is your act purposely dumb or do you come by it naturally??

Hopefully, for you and your family your posts do not reflect your intellect or lack thereof.

Ron Zook, "championships don't matter to me anymore", "the worst Cane fan":

Get up and go into the other room, knock hard because the door is locked and your daughter is listening to the latest Chief Keef, 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, Future, Migos, and Drake garbage on her "Beats By Dre" headphones, ask her if she has any time for U, then explain your crush and current alternative relationship with mediocrity--love for self-destruction and other things obviously bad for U--believe me, your daughters are in the same place U are right now and can definitely provide perspective.

I'm gonna stop, because if this weekend didn't move U away, then anything said by any of Us will surely just push U further in love.

Oh and BTW; Golden could have made this same statement Friday or Yesterday if this report was really untrue but out of nowhere "after 4:00pm" his statement comes.

Coincidence, right?

I'm glad you remember that because no one else does... :-)

I'm old enough to remember them hating on Jimmy Johnson after the 1984 season.

On what transpired or didn't transpire, I think this is a case of some internet gurus on these Rivals fan sites trying to drive up their clicks by speculating on what some supposed "insider" whispered to them. It's usually a bunch of claptrap that has nothing to do with what actually goes on.

It's the curse of the internet age. I love the internet, but you have to get a grip sometimes and realize that people now are trying to drive the news not report the news.

I do think they have some issues up at PSU regarding this coaching search. I think the U Pres and AD are either new or interims or something like that. They probably are a bit handcuffed by some idiot boosters who think they are football experts, much like Jerry Jones is a football expert. Business expert for sure, football, not looking like it. I wish them well. I have a co-worker who is a PSU alum. I feel for their fans.

And....for all anyone knows Golden was going to accept the job but then had a change of heart. It happens. I've done it. Either way good day for UM. For once we didn't end up holding the short straw. It's a cutthroat business.

I would have taken Butch or Chud. Golden has fielded one of the worst defenses that last three years and refuses to make adjustments or move his friend from his post. Nice guys dont always when ships. No other coach of a major program would allow their defense to be sooo awful for so long. We were not this bad during the sanction yrs of the past. Although he is a great guy i dont believe Al has the formula. I know some of you guys will say im a nutcake fan thats not realistic but it doesnt take me as long to realise this thing with Golden will work. We may see an 11 win season at best with these guys but no ships. Coach D being removed will certainly help us.

Blah, blah, blah...that is the ultimate in arse covering. They got it wrong and now they are blaming Golden? Golden's press release clearly made a point to highlight all the wrongheaded speculation.

When Al Golden gives his side of the story, then and only then, will the facts be known.

Finally, I couldn't care less if the story above is true as the Man, who is overflowing with integrity, was looking at a minimum of a $1.2 million dollar annual pay raise and was going home.

HarrietTubmanCane,

Here's my response to your never ending diarrhea of the mouth:

Tubman do your arms and/or brain hurt reaching so hard to make these dumb connections and half-cocked conspiracies? Al Golden isn't some evil genius. Zook why do you always twist words around? Since you're a former player at the u wouldn't u have a way to contact ppl there for more info? Why do you not use your ex player connections? And since you're an ex player have you ever been on the sidelines for games or met the players to give them advice from a former player. Reality must be twisted in your delusional world. Do you think that lying repeatedly makes the lie a reality?

Why did you even say you were an ex player if you weren't willing to provide any evidence to your claims. You're the one who call everyone a liar and goes on about how ppl are cowards are keep changing names but you think just bc your lies are pro um that they're ok?

But our fans want to hold out hope anyway backing shannon and now this guy. All of you guys can start preparing your excuses. Three more seasons will past with no titles and youll still be blaming the players who by the way are being recruitedand choosing the u over powerhouse schools. And our fans and coaches make it out to be as if we are out there on saturday with rags. Shannon and now golden hasnt developed a single 1st round pick. What a drought. What a terrible strech of mediocrity. It doesnt take good coaches four five six years to put it together you guys. Have your new excuses ready guys.

More plagiarism huh? Now U are copying & pasting other blogger's posts and claiming them as your own lol!

Those other two Ganes are currently doing what I asked. U can't because there isn't any other rooms or family to consult. Your crazy blogging activity on every major holiday confirms this lol!

False Alarm-----return to your homes and trailers.
