Hurricanes offensive guard Jonathan Feliciano announces he's returning for his senior year

Welcome back to University of Miami guard Jon Feliciano, another underclassmen who said Friday he is staying for his senior season, joining linebacker Denzel Perryman and defensive lineman Anthony Chickillo and tight end Clive Walford.

Here's the release from UM regarding Jon.

Miami Hurricanes offensive guard Jon Feliciano will return to school for his senior season, the Davie native announced Friday.

“I am coming back (to Miami) because I believe in what Coach Golden, the staff and our team are doing here,” Feliciano said. “I think the program is rising at an all-time pace. With all the NCAA stuff behind us, we can come into a season without anything hanging over our heads.”

Feliciano started all 13 games along the offensive line, making 11 starts at left guard and two starts at right tackle. An honorable mention All-ACC selection by ACSMA, he helped anchor the offensive line that paved the way for Miami’s offense to average 425.8 yards of total offense and 33.8 points per game.

As a sophomore in 2012, he started all 12 games at left guard en route to All-ACC honorable mention from ACSMA. He has started 26 straight games on Miami’s offensive line and 33 of 35 career games.

“I have some flaws in my game and that’s the reason why I’m staying for my senior season at Miami,” Feliciano said. “The coaches do a great job in finding weak spots in your game and making them your strength.”

Future is bright in Coral Gables gooooo Canes!!!!!!

Losing Three 4-Stars flips in 5 days to teams that are considered better overall programs with FAR better facilities...

Gaining Zero 4-star flips in months from teams that are considered better overall programs with FAR better facilities ...

But we'll get some unranked and 2-star leftover projects on signing and the lull days that follow to be the foundation of our 2-3 deep depth in the near future.

We're great outta the gate, but have faded in the homestretch yet again. We have gotten some nice top players to commit the last 4 years, but so many use our schollie offers as stepping stones to Top-20 programs.

Why ?

Why ?

Typical Blind Cane fanitis...

Why is it even news that Ur sorry underclassmen AREN"T declaring for the NFL Draft ? Because U have NO good/elite draftable Junior or Red-Shirt Soph. talent. And haven't for YEARS... Unlike Ur Big Brothers to the North that have Multiple Underclassmen that declare year after year. Why is that U axe ? I'd tell U, but U wouldn't understand.

Possible 1st rounder for coming back....KID IS GOOD!!!

Same for Perryman....these kids just put another million dollars in their pocket for the 2015 draft!!!!!!

Chickallo as well....baller for sure!!!!!!!!!!

Latest word on Franklin to Penn. St. that the deal is falling apart and he's having second thoughts. Would Penn. St. then turn to Golden ? I think not, but this could go on for a while longer. And how many more recruits do we lose as a result.

Posted by: Mike B. | January 10, 2014 at 05:34 PM

Very funny, isn't it? Last weekend it was AG to PSU. Wednesday JF to PSU. Now the deal has fallen apart. The only thing for sure now is that, no one knows what is going on.

Feliciano started all 13 games along the offensive line, making 11 starts at left guard and two starts at right tackle. An honorable mention All-ACC selection by ACSMA.

honorable mention by the ACSMA... what the hell is the ACSMA ?

.

Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA).

oh... how impressive. So in short non-draftable and maybe a free agent offer.

Cane 89, Beed and Sunny Dee - glad you all have exposed this coaching administration for what it is: Mediocre at best, riddled with excuses.

Cane 89 thank you for pointing out that Golden was handsomly paid $2.1 million per year TO DO HIS JOB, during the NCAA sanctions. All last week when everyone, including the media, were sticking up for Golden, due to the "NCAA Sanctions", "Players not Maturing", "Players not Grasping the System", "It's a Process", "Have to Have Patience", and the best one: "We're not Yet Where We Want to Be", I was pulling my hair out from the Toxic Kool Aid everyone was drinking (as pushed by Golden and the UM administration).

WQAM's Donno and Guzio actually said, when I called them, that they would be happy with 7 and 8 win seasons until 2020, if they knew Golden would stick around until that time. WHAT!? This is the kind of mediocrity/socialism that has already started to set in. 7 and 8 wins is a failure at UM. Let me repeat....7 AND 8 WINS IS A FAILURE AT UM! Always has been and always will be.

We have the players. We've always had the players and will always have the players. The key is, what are we doing with the players? With the right coaches holding their own on game day, and coaching up the players, we win 10 or more games a year like clockwork. Since Howard got things rolling in 83, that is how it has always been, that is how it is now, and that is how it will always be.

Guzio and Donno, never settle for 7 and 8 win seasons, because once you do, five and two win seasons are not far off in the future.

Finally, as a fan base, we cannot give coaches five years to implement their systems. They need to show ample results after three years. If we give four coaches, five years to implement their systems, and they fail the way Coker, Shannon, and now Golden have failed, then we're staring at 20 years of lethargy. The next man up attitude needs to be just as adherent with coaching and coaching staffs, the same way it is with players.

Also, a failed/fired Head Coach as Randy shouldn't mean he has to be entirely dismissed from the program. The guy is actually one of the best Defensive Coordinators in the country and should have been offered to stay on to coach the defense (if he chose to and had the humility to do so). It's the Old Steinbrenner/Yankee form of front office administration, especially since Randy is a member of the Cane family. Gene Michael was a terrible Manager for the Yankees on two occassions, but whenever fired, he was immediately put back into the front office to build up personnel, which was his STRONG SUIT. He is the one actually responsible for the Yankees' rise in the 90's.

In Golden's case, year three should have shown marked improvement on defense, and participating in the ACC Championship game. People like Meyer, Saban and Petrino got their teams to BCS Bowl games in year three... and on more than once occassion .... at separate coaching stops. I will give Golden a pass on that one, since we would have faced FSU in the ACC Championship, but we should have at least gotten to the game and shown improvement on defense. We didn't, so he now he needs to be on the hot seat and held accountable. People like Donno and Guzio may not like that coaches use the UM as a stepping stone job, but the UM certainly cannot become a "rest on your laurels job", based upon mediocrity.

Possible 1st rounder for coming back....KID IS GOOD!!!

Dommasse, Zook or whoever delusional cane clUck U are today, open Ur windows, U have a gas leak.

Franklin is taking to psu position...everything is all set for Saturday announcement. Today he had to be approved by PSU finance committee....a formality

the deal is DONE....over 4 million. Here is the reason, PSU wanted a WINING TRACK record and new "blood @ thinking".....that's why golden got passed up.....ESPN today.

UM is totally stuck with him now......his stock dropped tremendously....he is not the "hot" coach at all.

Posted by: Football | January 10, 2014 at 05:37 PM

Crazier things have happened. Hell, Saban just hired Kiffen as OC. But the longer this goes on the more Franklin is easing out of the Penn. St. door and Golden's name back into it. Franklin might just really be starting to realize how tough it will be for the first 3-4 years at Penn. St. And he's really close to his Vandy kids. Word is that he really wants to be an NFL guy and NFL teams have him on their radar and would be in the years that follow. Either way, Golden, if he only would have WITHDRAWN his name from the Penn. St. job, WHICH HE DIDN'T NOR HAS, all this speculation about him would end and ease recruits worries.

But Al chose and chooses not to. and that is troublesome. But it continues.

what r u talking about.....Franklin has accepted the position already via inside sources...

2nd highest coach in big 10 after urban meyer.....double golden salary.....he must be real good and miserable now, lol

too funny....

So Nigel Bethel doesn't like the defensive scheme at Miami so he flips to that defensive powerhouse Texas Tech? Ok I get it! And he leaves Miami for that scintillating city Lubbock Texas? Yeah I can see that too! LOL

Posted by: AnonymousCane | 01/10/2014 at 05:02 PM

Texas Tech has finished ranked higher than the Canes the last 3 years and won their Bowl game. So if we're a "powerhouse" program, what would that make TT ?

Plain and simple, whether we agree to it of not, that's where we are at Nationally in reality. Try to think outside your Miami bubble. These kids that are making decisions on where to commit today were in training diapers 14 years ago when we last won a National Championship.

Perspective ?

Cbs , si and espn reporting penn state making big announcement tomorow. I find it hard to believe that the deal with franklin falling apart. Espn just did story on sportcenter saying vandy tried to keep franklin and failed that as like 2 minutes ago. As for miami losing a 3 star cb a 3 star rb and valentine. I think they get valentine back Bethel stated he wanted to play immediatly and with howard, crawford, burns, elder, and gunter he didn't want to have to compete for playign time. Powell went to florida stating he had to get paid. Take that for what u will. That he knew johnson, yearby, and edwards crawford and tucker were to good for him to beat out if gonna lose a prospect is good to do it at one of depth. Valentine once he sits down with coach will recommit i believe as his family wants him to stay home and he only decommited due to golden rumors.

People we all hate the defense, we're all pissed Golden is not getting rid of this defense, but fact is he is staying - apparently, and so is his buddy.

The man is not blind, he saw what he saw, let's hope he makes the necessary adjustments so we don't go through another year of getting gashed for 500+ yards a game.

Posted by: Marios | January 10, 2014 at 05:48 PM
/////////////////////////////

There is only one adjustment that can be made, bring in somebody who knows defense. moron goldie played offense in college right, clown 500 played on defense, but somehow moron goldie taught clown 500 this sissy defensive scheme, so the only solution is to bring in a real d-co who has a scheme that none of the penn disgrace nimrods know how to run.

This isn't over.

Looks like Franklin has cold feet. He is up in the air about PSU job. That can only, and hopefully, mean that 'Goldy is next in line.

Can U imaging that: 'Goldy and DunnoToday, Didn'tKnowIn2013 will be at PSU.

As for miami losing a 3 star cb a 3 star rb and valentine. I think they get valentine back.

48 hours ago U had those two as 4-star Studs with MULTIPLE MAJOR Top-10 program offers. Valentine decision ? LSU, BAMA or U ?

U do the math and get Ur head outta the snow mainecane.

Mike B. are you really that dumb? Franklin to Penn State is a done deal.

As for the returning players for their Senior year, I am glad they are all coming back. That said, I have zero confidence that Golden or No'D will make any changes to this defensive scheme. Why? because they have failed to do so for the last two season. They made no defensive changes or adjustments all season, and failed to make any in the month prep time for the bowl. So our defense will suck again next year and then finally he will have no choice but to get a new DC. They need to get Valentine back committed ASAP.

I'm hoping we are going to keep these top recruits

Friday morning, during the week he was expected to report to Coral Gables as an early enrollee, Deerfield Beach running back Brandon Powell had a sudden change of heart, decommitting from the Hurricanes and choosing instead to enroll at Florida.

According to Deerfield Beach coach Allen Jackson, Florida has always been one of Powell’s top choices, but the school didn’t offer a scholarship until Monday. That’s when things changed for the Sun Sentinel Class 8A-7A-6A Player of the Year, who had been a Miami commit since last summer. He had initially been committed to Tennessee.

“He just got to Gainesville. I spoke with his dad and they were just driving and arriving on campus,” Jackson said Friday morning. “Florida was always a place he wanted to go. When they first came aboard his junior year, he was very interested and he said if Florida would give him an offer, he’d go. But they never came around until Monday. It was always in his heart. That kind of threw the big wrench in. We’ve been struggling with this all week.”

ALL GATOR !

In the next 3 weeks, much more of the same to come for U ...

Great news to hear about Feliciano coming back along with Denzel and Chick. Those three along with the other guys coming back and the new recruits are going to be huge for us on our way back to the top. Valentine hopefully recommitting along with Chad, and the rest of the Dlinemen coming in will only make us better. Coach Golden has done a great job considering all the mess he inherited.

The comments below come from two people who could have become millionaires overnight by opting for the NFL, but decided to stay because of Al Golden and his staff’s coaching abilities, along with the undeniable upward trajectory of the program. Their actions speak louder than anyone’s words as they are putting their futures on the line and more than anyone else know what is truly transpiring within the program.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“I am coming back (to Miami) because I believe in what Coach Golden, the staff and our team are doing here,” Feliciano said. “I think the program is rising at an all-time pace. With all the NCAA stuff behind us, we can come into a season without anything hanging over our heads.”

Feliciano said. “The coaches do a great job in finding weak spots in your game and making them your strength.”

“I decided to stay because it is the best decision for me and my family,” Perryman said in a statement released by UM. “Ever since Coach Golden got here, I feel like this program is moving forward and will continue to rise under his direction.

“This coaching staff is dedicated to player development and getting us better. I’ve grown as a player and person each year thanks to them."

“Before this season, we hadn’t had a 9-win season in a long time,” Perryman said. “For those of us in my class who had never been to a bowl game because of the sanctions, it was a great feeling and I want to be a part of the next step forward.”

Don't bet on that jerkoff. If that's where the kid wants to be then I personally am happy for him. If he doesn't have the heart to be a Cane that Duke Johnson has then its best for all parties considered. However the young man must feel a little slighted kinda like D. Freeman felt about Miami when Shannon wouldn't offer him. I mean it took Dalvin Cook decommiting and going to FSU for them to actually offer the kid. I mean as long as he is at Florida he will always feel that he was second rate or a plan B for Muschamp. I guess he never looked at the reality that is. Plus under Golden he would have had a chance to compete no matter what he was rated out of high school and earn his playing time. Golden plays the best no matter what they are hyped.

Calvin,

I have been thinking of the same about the reason why Golden will...NOT change coach and/or scheme. The current scheme is the only one Golden has knowledge and training. Golden is using this Miami coaching job as gaining experience for the future PSU position in about 2-3 years. Franklin will not stay, and Golden will leave the U when sanctions are gone for PSU.

I am not blaming Golden, because he is seeking job security and future income to take care of his family. Think about this, why would he apply for two major coaching jobs knowing the NCAA mess, and possible sanctions? Golden knew of the pending NCAA mess with the U, and knew he would get a pass, while gaining valuable coaching experience. Not to mention, he received a pay raise without producing a quality product/team. If he does not produce, this professional scheme will cause him a future as a head coach.

The NCAA mess is gone, but we are losing recruits. I thought Golden was assessed as a good recruiter, which I am not seeing since his arrival. The only recruit I can recall is Tracy Howard and Muhammad. Duke was coming to the U regardless, and Coley came, because of Coley/OC.

Looking forward! If we stay in this system, then at least go to the Baylor, Oregon, Missouri, and Texas AM style on offense...a shoot out. Neither of those teams had a good defense. FSU and MSU were the only balance teams with an identity.

Change the offensive scheme and go with the dual-threat QB. The RB at Auburn is not better than Duke, he was just in a good system. The QB at Auburn, we see that type every Friday night watching HS football in dade county. Tebow and Johnny football comes dime a dozen, and the ESPN media act like this is new.
How come we keep trying to run a pro-style offense, without a pro-style coordinator and QB coach?

Florida continued its sizzling recruiting streak in 2014 by snagging its third commitment in a little more than 24 hours from running back and former Miami commit Brandon Powell, who flipped to the Gators after receiving an offer from Florida, according to Zach Abolverdi of The Gainesville Sun.

Powell, a running back from Deerfield Beach High School who will enroll early, was committed to Miami since August, but jumped at the opportunity to pledge to his childhood dream school after receiving the offer on Wednesday. Powell is rated as a four-star athlete by ESPN and had offers from Miami, Nebraska, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, among others.

ALL GATOR !

Can U see the signing day finish line ? ... no ? Ur outta gas.

Why ?

Golden and his buddy are manning the "NO GAS" signs at Ur gas pumps.

Winter Park defensive end Trent Harris expected to be getting to know his new college roommate today, just a day after his mother dropped him off for his first semester at the University of Miami.

But as he was awaited the arrival of Brandon Powell, the social media stratosphere filled up with a where's-Waldo-like report of Powell's whereabouts as the Deerfield Beach running back's change-of-heart played out over Twitter.

He was driving up I-95, he was in Ocala, he's arrived in Gainesville ... his progress was plotted like a Santa Claus map on Christmas eve. This trip, however, was quite real.

The talented 5-foot-9, 180-pound running back made an 11th-hour decision to bail on the Hurricanes to help fill a huge void in the 2014 recruiting class of the Florida Gators. There was apparently a snag in his transcripts, but that information is not clear.

Harris said the last he had talked to Powell was "a couple of days ago" when it seemed clear that both would be sharing the same room by Thursday. Harris will likely now be paired up with Joseph Yearby, a Miami Central running back who will be enrolling early, as well.

Deerfield Beach coach Allen Jackson told Christy Cabrera Chirinos of the South Florida Sun Sentinel on Friday morning, "He just got to Gainesville. I spoke with his dad and they were just driving and arriving on campus."

ALL GATOR !

gUess who's next ?

Penn State University President Rodney Erickson and Director of Athletics Dave Joyner will make a major announcement Saturday at 4:15 p.m., which will be the hiring of James Franklin at $4.5 million annually.

For those that question Al Golden's loyalty...he turned down a raise of $2.2 million annually to stay with the Canes.

"but jumped at the opportunity to pledge to his childhood dream school after receiving the offer..."

Kaaya next ...

Just a few responses to the news over the last week or so.

U decide who the liar is. Who really thought Golden was leaving?

Who truly cooks up lies and repeats them until they sincerely believe them to be true?

Well U should have read the entire thread then. Don't worry though, U were only an accessory.

Powell went to Florida, because Cook went to FSU! Let's just keep it real! Powell made a good decision based on his talent and the hiring of the new OC too. Florida will use Powell skills in the open field, and his future will be bright. I am not surprise, because he would have been a good RB at Baylor and Oregon too. He is a game changer like Duke and Yearby.

Don't worry Cane fans, we have 2-3 RBs coming in 2015 and 2016. We need DTs and dual-threat QBs!

Borrowed this from another board:

Golden vs Shannon

AG has 1 more win in 3 years
AG earns more than a million more
AG lost to Duke, RS never did
AG has never beaten FSU, RS did
AG has never beaten a good (10+ win) team, RS has
AG has the worse defense in the ACC, RS hasd top 3 consistently
AG played the easiest schedule in Miami history in 2013 (Miami finished with 9-4 record)
RS played the most difficult schedule in 2009 (Miami finished with 9-4 record)

And yall were saying???

facts baby FACTS!

ALL GATOR !

gUess who's next ?

------------------------------------------------------
When you lost Cook, Powell was the next obvious get. You lost the 4th best player in the state and picked up a very good player who's ranked 48th. We were sittin pretty with Yearby, the 3rd best player in the state, and Powel.... but, it wasn't meant to be.

Do ya think the Gators can do a little somethin' with these recruiting classes or what???

Sadly, Golden beat you....remember???

Again, all the blah, blah, blah by the usual suspects matters not!! When those on the firing line re-enlist that is all one needs to know concerning the players believing in their coaches, most especially Al Golden. Any other conflicting opinion means nothing and does not come from any place other than a negative agenda.

For you real Canes fans...read the telling words of the players and know we are blessed to have them and Al Golden.

Not sure he was offered the position, Ron.

1. Who cares 2-3 kids flipped. Thats opened more spots and golden will land top tier talent still.

#2. Didnt Powell post on Twitter Time to feed my family 3-4 days ago? And now last minute change of heart? Hows UF feeding his family? The kid basically said he got paid by a booster. UF loses Cook, so they swoop in for Powell? Powell was bragging 2 weeks ago about the depth chart at miami and how he can play right away.

Just go find kids to want to be canes man. Forget the other stuff. Get as manny south Florida players on the team as possible.

Thngs could be a lot worse....we could have hired Lane Kiffin before Alabummer did...

D CORCH AND AL GOLDEN PLAY HIDE THE SALAMI...

Zookie knows good and daymn well the leader of the Mac staff wasn't offered the job or he would be on penn right now.

Penn St hired the best coach with the best record available. Clearly Franklin has done more with less in the better conference.

People are beginning to see through all of the pomp and pageantry of Alfraud Golden. He's been exposed too many times on the national stage.

Listen these players are definitely Goldens guys. He has them believing 9 wins during what has to be the easiest schedule in school history is progress. We can't finish as national champs every year but we should never finish out of the top ten. The standards for this university are out of whack. It's win or go home. As for guzzio or hochman or whoever said 7-8 wins a yr until 2020 is ok with them can go to hell. One of those guys is a gator so that's probably why he said it. This team will never win with Golden when the bar is set so low. Can someone explain why the bar is not national championships anymore.

I would assume the answer will be: what happened to Butch Davis, or the NCAA genocidal massacre. Or it could be that the South Florida recruiting region doesn't have horsies anymore. Or my favorite, Shannon did it.

Something to that effect.
