Hurricanes offensive guard Jonathan Feliciano announces he's returning for his senior year

Welcome back to University of Miami guard Jon Feliciano, another underclassmen who said Friday he is staying for his senior season, joining linebacker Denzel Perryman and defensive lineman Anthony Chickillo and tight end Clive Walford.

Here's the release from UM regarding Jon.

Miami Hurricanes offensive guard Jon Feliciano will return to school for his senior season, the Davie native announced Friday.

“I am coming back (to Miami) because I believe in what Coach Golden, the staff and our team are doing here,” Feliciano said. “I think the program is rising at an all-time pace. With all the NCAA stuff behind us, we can come into a season without anything hanging over our heads.”

Feliciano started all 13 games along the offensive line, making 11 starts at left guard and two starts at right tackle. An honorable mention All-ACC selection by ACSMA, he helped anchor the offensive line that paved the way for Miami’s offense to average 425.8 yards of total offense and 33.8 points per game.

As a sophomore in 2012, he started all 12 games at left guard en route to All-ACC honorable mention from ACSMA. He has started 26 straight games on Miami’s offensive line and 33 of 35 career games.

“I have some flaws in my game and that’s the reason why I’m staying for my senior season at Miami,” Feliciano said. “The coaches do a great job in finding weak spots in your game and making them your strength.”

The Florida Gators have lost another member of their 2014 recruiting class.

This time it’s ESPN 300 wide receiver Ermon Lane (Homestead, Fla./Homestead) who announced on Twitter that he was backing off of his pledge to Florida.

In the last two week the Gators have lost three ESPN 300 recruits, Lane, Cook and Chris Lammons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Plantation.

After a 4 and 8 season with a historically embarrassing loss to the Sun Belt Conference, Georgia Southern the embattled Gators football program appears to be in deep trouble. A Gator insider said that many do not believe that head coach Will Muschamp will survive the entire season next year believing that another losing season is all but assured.

Not only are the Gators fighting a program on the decline on the field, they are also trying to assure parents of recruits that the school takes the Aaron Hernandez murder story and all of the Gator football player arrests seriously.

Mainecane,
Your last post kinda got buried, but I found it very persuasive.

I wanted a new coach, but Ag is here and I like your take on it.

Campobello,

Moten decommitted today? That suuuuucks.

TRololol. I wonder if we can get him? Who else was talking about us getting one of the UL DTs?

Beedharphong,

At this stage we simply don't know what happened, so we are all left with conjecture. That said, I can't imagine the people charged with a major hiring would begin the interview process with anyone but their first choice--to do anything differently simply defies logic and good business.

If in fact the PSU people did start with someone other than their main target then they should be fired for malfeasance.

Furman swears that he ended up with 5 credible sources who all confirmed that Penn State offered the job to Al Golden and both sides agreed on the terms.

The PSU people had to know that Franklin's name was associated with several high profile jobs, thus time would have been of the essence to nail down Franklin if he was in fact their prime target.

Franklin learning that Al Golden was interviewed first could have easily concluded and rightly so that he was their second choice, which could have impacted his brand value in the eyes of others.

Keep in mind that they didn't interview Franklin until AFTER Golden removed his name from consideration.

We both know that bureaucrats of public institutions don't give one wit about the various hiring statutes and simply work around those stipulations that are there to placate the various political groups, much like the way NFL owners pay little attention to the Rooney Rule.

My guess is the only reason Golden wasn't hired after the Paterno mess is the school did not want to have any connection on the football field with anyone that was formerly associated with Joe Pa, which certainly had nothing to do with Golden's coaching ability, but was more about political correctness.

What coaching ability? The only ability he has shown is consistently being blown out? barely beating inferior teams. Fielding the worst defense in the ACC two years and counting. Holding no accountability to himself and his staff even though he preaches it constantly. Making excuse after excuse. But you haters and liars would never understand unless you actually played in the bowl like me.

AL GOLDEN GIVES UP THE MOST YARDS AND HAS THE MOST EXCUSES IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Zook,
Well, I appreciate your response, but I still find it loaded with your emotionally based confirmation bias and speculative dismissals and questioning of motivations regarding bureaucratic processes; which I respect you being honest about.

I think your last point about eschewing Paterno ties makes my point for me though, as applied not only to the previous O'brien hire, as well as this one..

...based on the numbers of hires in the wake of the paterno scandal.

I'll go with the numbers.

Watching UF get melted down on recruiting today has been the best kind of schadenfreude - not so much bc I have anything in particular against the gators, but because of the fake interwebs rivalry that continues unabated in this forum.

I want Moten. Bad. "Experts" are pointing our way for him so far.

Beedharphong,

Dont worry well agree to disagree. Im a devout follower of the house of Big AL.
Even with the UF meltdown, they are currently ranked 10 and we are 8 on rivals and they have 6 less recruits. So even the top 3 recruiting class i kept bragging about anymore. So unfortanately it will be a while before we start competing for national titles again bc as you know Big Al needs all rival top 300 to field a good team. But you liars and haters will never understand bc you never played at UM like I did.

AL GOLDEN GIVES UP THE MOST YARDS AND HAS THE MOST EXCUSES IN ALL OF CFB EVEN MUSCHAMP CANS HIS OC INSTEAD OF THROWING HIS DC UNDER THE BUS LIKE OUR BOY BIG AL DID!!!!

Bethel was and will not be a huge loss....the guy is 5'8,,if he was from the Indiana,,he would be rated as a 2 star player at best...the dT travontine I believe will come back once he get his sit down. But both Powell and Bethel show why coaches keep recruiting. Bethel knew he didn't want to come to Miami but held up a scholarship for months on end. He ran his mouth a little too much for me for a high school senior who on the national scale would be consider just another good local prospect from Miami, but nothing special.

Beed did Moten decom?? I can't find it anywhere, hope it isn't true?

beedharphong,

The Gators jealousy of the Canes goes back 40 years...and that's before the Canes became dominant in football. They've always seen themselves as the backwoods back-up band to the Canes, thus the jealousy.

I don't see anything on Moten de-committing when searching the web, but did post the information about the Vanderbilt 4 star defensive tackle considering the Canes.

Moten decommits from Gators:

They interviewed Franklin after Alfraud because Franklin had a game Saturday. Munches was fired Saturday also.

And the lack of championship pedigree of Big AL goes back years as well. Never won a championship on any level yet I support him to the fullest because its a Big Al thing you wouldnt understand.

BIG AL GIVES UP THE MOST YARDS AND HAS THE MOST EXCUSES IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Hell I never knew he ever committed to them. I thought he was with the U from the get go?

Whoooops - MY BAD. MY BAD.

THAT WAS FROM JULY. WAS JUST REPOSTED ON REDDIT BOARDS.

I AM A DOUCHE. APOLOGIES.

BTW how did fake Ron Zook even hack my ID? Fake zooks shadiness must run deep.

LOL, no worries man. I thought something was weird with that.

Watching Patriots. It's almost laughable how easily they can run when the defensive line stands up and starts shifting around. They just audible to a run up the middle and take the 5 yards.

Speaking to the media about his recruiting class earlier this week, Hurricanes coach Al Golden briefly mentioned the possibility of both wins and losses in the weeks leading up to national signing day, Feb. 5.

Maybe Golden and his staff weren’t surprised by two pieces of their recruiting class, running back Brandon Powell and cornerback Nigel Bethel, switching their commitments in the last 24 hours. But like many developments in recruiting season’s frenzied finish – we are 26 days away – it riled up fans of several college football teams.

Powell, from Deerfield Beach High, added to the circus by posting some memorable messages on his Twitter account before he flipped to Florida.

“Gotta feed the fam. Been struggling for too long,” Powell tweeted. “Y’all don’t know my struggle,” he added.

Perhaps by “Gotta feed the fam,” Powell meant he could see more playing time at UF and thus, enjoy a greater chance to one day earn an NFL paycheck. It quickly became joke fodder for some, and raised both suspicion and accusation elsewhere.

Powell, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound athlete rated three stars by 247Sports.com, is a talented ballcarrier, but with a loaded backfield in Coral Gables, there was a real possibility he would switch to cornerback if he landed at Miami.

Aaron Hernandez is years removed from Florida.

I think it has more to do with Muschamp being a bad head coach.

One complaint that UM players have raised about defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio is the players don’t feel they can give him suggestions about what they can do differently on defense. “He doesn’t want feedback,” one parent said.

That right there is a recruiting killer. D’Onofrio's and Goldens's lack of imagination is trumped by his stubbornness to identify problems then fix them. "We're going to stick with what we've been doing."

Mike,

where did you get that info? That's pretty significant because there's dissent on that defense.

It must be so frustrating to play on that defense.

You're just a liar and hater who knows nothing about Big Al!! When Luther Robinson wanted to play defense and not switch to offend Golden in his infinite wisdom kept him there and even better with the innovative mind of his great dc came up with the plan to create a new dt/cb hybrid like nothing the rest of cfb has ever seen. Why do ppl who constantly lie about this staff? Fact we improved tremendously in defense finishing in the top 90 this year. That's an amazing job in the face of the ncaa who was trying to give the program a death sentence. Can you idiots not comprehend going from 116 to top 90??? Sometimes I wonder what goes on in your heads.

But since I'm the only former division 1 football player who happened to play at the bowl it's not suprising that my thought process is on another level that's why me and Big Al connect on a emotion, spiritual, and physical level.

BIG AL GIVES UP THE MOST YARDS AND HAS THE MOST EXCUSES IN ALL OF CFB BUT YOU HATERS WILL NEVER EVER UNDERSTAND!!!

Are you serious? 116 to 90...That defense is a joke. Dino is a clown.

Why would a kid would come here and play in this cap scheme?

Barry Jackson's latest blog. Couldn't believe that is true and was printed. The Media Golden Honeymoon seems to be over.

/////////////////////////////////////////

just read it, wow, it really shows how poor al goldens defense has been over the years. three years he has not performed....again wow.

barry jackson is the one that has it all wrong......

"Golden expected the deal finalized today. But when rumors of the Munchak flirtation circulated Sunday morning, sources told CaneSport that Golden informed Penn State that he wanted a contract to sign today. When it didn't happen by 4 p.m. - with pressure growing throughout South Florida - he backed out of the deal"

PSU had a lot more due diligence to complete and golden had a HUGE Monday UM press conference.....especially the 9 million fund raiser....golden couldn't talk at that press conference about going forward at UM if he didn't have a signed contract.....so he tied to force PSU's hand....

the point is golden was out of here if PSU agreed to go to contract.....al golden got caught...

al golden is looking to run from his failures but he is stuck now to clean up HIS MESS.....

typo....golden couldn't talk UM commitment going forward Monday if he was still in the PSU mix....so he tried to force PSU hand...he needed PSU to hire him via a signed contract...PSU refused

That's the story I believe. Golden forced psu to do the deal in one day or he was going walk.

A mess is a good way of putting what he's left behind. Then he keeps that idiot on his staff. Read the Barry Jackson blog Mike posted. Even some of the current players don't like this scheme.

Golden is his own worst enemy.

sources. sources.

Who? Youmeanlike Gary Ferman?
Susan Degnan?

Seriously.

Name your effen sources and then we'll believe you.

Bottopm line is

James Franlkin was offered the job and he took it

period

story is over

stop beating a dead horse just to validate your pathetic journalistic lives

Al Golden is the coach of Miami

Get over that

beedharphong,

Where did you get your information about Moten decommitting? As of last weekend he still said he was a solid commitment.

Nevermind, I see that it was misinformation or just a lack of reading the story on beedharphong's part.

So PSU was Golden's "dream job," but now it is Franklin's "dream job." And Golden apparently forced their hand and they decided to pass.

I am looking for the guy for whom Mimai is his "dream job," wants to build a national power, loves the city and the university and stays in South Florida.

Don't feel real high on the current coach and his staff. Too many negatives. DNO doesn't take feedback from the players according to one parent.

With that idiot's record, he ought to be taking feedback from everyone, including posters on this blog.

But I think he represents AG's rigid approach to coaching, player management, etc. These guys belong at PSU really. Their connect to the players is from a position of authority, an old school approach that works at some places. UM needs flexible coaches.

That said, as a Canes fan, I hope Golden et al make some changes, recruit some great players and have their best season yet. Cut the BS and produce.

If not, goodbye please. We will have seen enough. Your heart is not with the U, AG, so get real.

Gallo writes as if he has some inside scoop on everything. The only inside scoop he has is on his locker room peephole looks.

look al golden graduated for PSU 23 YEAS AGO.....he wanted the PSU position because of the MONEYYYYY...

he knew it would be around 3.8-4 million since that was what an interim coach (Bill O'Brien) was getting....it was all about the cash....double what golden was making at UM.....

coaching issues since golden took over:

Terry Richardson - RB
Jedd Fisch - OC
Geroge Mcdonald - WR
Mario Christobal - HC
mark Dnofrio - Temple application
Al Golden - PSU application

all this within 3 years?......if these guys want to do what is best for them...FINE..NP

UM should also do what its best for itself also....should apply EQUAL self interest....but it doesn't...that's the issue...Al Golden told shalala he was here for the long haul....is she an idiot?

where is HER due diligence with pushing this program forward?.....if I had a key guy in my organization that behind the scenes was looking to leave for whatever the reason is.....I would look to replace him since once you show your hand...its done!

Gallo, you don't have an organization. You're a moron.

Again realize that it is the scheme our HC wants to run. Coaches think they can be successful with it and I think they deserve to run it the way they want for better or for worse. They are being and will be judged on the results, so they should get all the recruits they need. As fans, we should want all the talent to go to the U.

he is so full of it.....if he wasn't interested he and his agent would have shut it down the day it was offered...but no...they both engaged in negotiations....

I was with the same firm for 10 years.....had at least 5 offers to switch clearing firms for lower rates etc....but I said no and stayed with my firm because I wanted to be there and I liked all the people that worked there....they were like my family....

he could have done the same thing....he had no allegiance to even talk to them....

"I am flattered as a PSU alumni with a love for the school...but I am happy here but TY for the consideration".....that would have put the breaks on all of this...

Football,

I don't think Golden is being judged on results. Look at where this defense is ranked.

Being judged on results would mean 10 win season or he's fired. That's what happened to Randy Shannon. I would expect the same to happen to Golden.

If you say but the NCAA, then that's not judging on results.

Jim,

I agree with your perspective on this one.

The trust factor ain't happening.

and now we are head over heels that sophomores are returning back? WTF is that?....your supposed to be returning...

why don't you bloggers just give them a "ticker-tape" parade down Biscayne Blvd?

And the 2014 coach of the Miami Hurricanes.....is still Al Golden.

Guys now quoting internet guessers who have no idea what happened. Maybe Golden gave them a # they wouldn't meet. Maybe he told them he needed to know by xx as he had recruiting and fundraising commitments he was unwilling to break. Maybe Maybe. baby.

What's the over/under on posts on this topic before opening day?

All meaningful football schools track their NFL eligible players this time of year to meter scholarships and the like. You'd think a guy who was in a "firm" for ten years and would have fired anyone in his organization who looked to better himself could figure that out. Guess not.
