« Good news for Canes: Anthony Chickillo returning -- and Al Golden/Penn State mystery continues | Main | Perryman's return big boost for Canes defense »

Is it over yet? CBSSports.com and ESPN.com reporting James Franklin to Penn State, but...

I still will completely believe it when it's a done deal.

However, CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman and ESPN.com's Brett McMurphy, both excellent reporters, are reporting through sources (I know, but nobody will ever say anything on the record) that James Franklin will be the next coach at Penn State.

Feldman said "there are still many details to be sorted out on both sides within the next 48 hours.''

McMurphy said that "Franklin is expected to accept an offer Thursday to become coach at Penn State.''

The headline for CBSSports.com: "Franklin to become next head coach at Penn State.''

The headline for ESPN.com: "James Franklin to Penn State.''

Also: UM has reported that in addition to new enrollee WR Braxton Berrios, offensive lineman Kc McDermott of Palm Beach Central and linebacker Juwon Young of Albany, Ga., has reported to the Hurricanes.

James Franklin talks with Vandy AD today, relays no definite Penn State plans
January 9, 2014 4:28 pm ET

James Franklin talked to Vanderbilt athletic director David Williams a few hours ago and told him he hadn't accepted the Penn State job but that he would talk with Williams later, the Commodores AD told CBSSports.com Thursday afternoon.

"He just called to let me know that the reports that he had accepted the job were not true," Williams said. "I think it was a call to say, I know what's being said, and as I've said, he'll be our football coach until he tells me he's not. I'm hoping that will remain. He will be the one to let me know. He's just having to make a decision."

Hey son, Perryman just announced he's leaving. Your list says he's gone. You are stupid.

not leaving* guess it runs in the family

Gallo's list of lists:

grocery
to-do
Christmas
laundry
guys I'd love to bang
ways I am a douchebag
reasons no one likes me
reasons to live (this is the shortest list of all)

THIS is how you close ... Wait til Feb. Gators will get and u will looose

Does it matter who the gators get??? Havent they been ranked in the top 10 in recruiting the last 5 years???
And they don't even have a division title to show for it.
Btw...you lost...21-16.

Haha! GO CANES!!!

Ha!...good one with the "list"...

Does gallo really ever make a point, or does he just keeps on adding to the list???

Is he a Shannon fan? Is he saying Shannon is THE guy??

great post dbc...

Gallo, you moron, the minimum rookie salary in the nfl this year is 405k, so quit chirping about ray rays 400k. 400k isn't "good for a walkon"----its the minimum.

he aint going anywhere.....his wife love it here....all much ado about nothing....

My favorite:
Zook, in all seriousness, U are just way to emotionally invested with this whole Al Golden and Canes being back thing. We get it. We want the Canes to be back on top again too. But in your current state of mind, you just can't make anything close to a rational or objective opinion on the matter inside the bubble U reside in. Take a vacation.

Golden isn't leaving just leveraging UM again, into another undeserved raise for he and D'No.
Posted by: HarrietTubmanCane | January 03, 2014 at 03:24 PM

Say goodbye to the 2014 recruiting class and beyond.
Simply devastating!!
Oh well!!
Posted by: Ron Zook | January 03, 2014 at 06:09 PM

Time will show that losing Al Golden was a terrible turning point in the history of Miami football. Anyone that is not desperately concerned about the future of the Canes football program is either blind or is a fan of another college team.
Posted by: Ron Zook | January 03, 2014 at 09:57 PM

The meeting is probably a formality. They don't delay their search and make this trip if he won't genuinely listen. Furthermore, he knows what taking this meeting means to the program he's building. He can kick rocks. Coaches don't leave []_[] for another college team--they go pro. If there is another University he'll entertain, he's not the right man to recruit for []_[] and lead []_[]. If he's not truly committed, how can he tell anyone else they should be? Business or not, this []_[] needs someone committed. Mario should have stayed. He'd be next in line.

This is a great opportunity to get this right (not that Al was wrong). Bring back Butch and stop chasing all these carpetbaggers.
Posted by: Mahoney-Pearson | January 04, 2014 at 12:38 AM

I still think al golden stays at UM no matter what those sites are saying....

this is al golden at his best.....DAMAGE CONTROL, what a perfect way to defer dnofrio and him getting blow out....

he will meet with penn state (obligated) but I bet he says no.....all much about nothing....

his wife aint leaving coral gables or miami for cold penn state....better shopping here, lol
Posted by: Jim Gallo | January 04, 2014 at 11:34 AM

If offered I think Golden will leave. No way UM extends his 2020 deal so he isn't trying to leverage it. If you were planning on staying here under all circumstances, you wouldn't interview. Too disruptive to recruiting/morale/etc.
Posted by: GatorKillerCane | January 04, 2014 at 11:59 AM

Valentine decommits due to Golden news...it's only the beginning boys and girls. Look for Kaaya to be next and then the floodgates will open.

You haters got your wish and now the downward spiral will ensue.

By the way, the college football experts around the country who don't have a dog in this fight all agree that Golden, despite all the headwinds, did a spectacular job at Miami and had the Canes on an upward trajectory, thus the intense interest from Penn State who pretty much can pick and choose who they want as their head coach...the Canes don't have that luxury!!

Best case scenario will be 5 years of 500 or worse seasons, but it will most probably last longer.

AL GOLDEN IS THE BEST COACH IN ALL OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL...UNFORTUNATELY, HE WILL SOON WORK FOR PENN STATE.
Posted by: Ron Zook | January 04, 2014 at 05:29 PM

I truly don't believe the Canes will recover from this blow, which will mean that Emmert and his NCAA Nazi Gestapo's ended up accomplishing what they set out to do almost 3 years ago...and that was to destroy Miami football.
Posted by: Ron Zook | January 04, 2014 at 06:19 PM

C'mon Zook. We'll be fine. Just get on with it; One way or the other.
Posted by: Mahoney-Pearson | January 04, 2014 at 06:22 PM

this all pycho-babble...golden is not going anywhere......

just look at his wife.....she wears the pants in the family.....she aint leaving, lol....trust me you'll see.
Posted by: Jim Gallo | January 05, 2014 at 10:50 AM

golden is not leaving UM for sub zero weather in PA.....
Posted by: Jim Gallo | January 05, 2014 at 11:16 AM

if golden leave I'll never blog here again....how about you if he stays?
Posted by: Jim Gallo | January 05, 2014 at 11:25 AM

naaaaaaa, I think his wife has alot of say-so.....too many quotes in herald the last 2 years about his family settling and loving south florida....

unless the psu offer is exponentially better than UM money he stays....he has a talent rich backyard and great weather....coaching-playing-watching football in the cold s...cks

I think he is meeting PSU to take himself off the "obligation-alumni hook"......I say he goes nowhere....
Posted by: Jim Gallo | January 05, 2014 at 12:38 PM

This entire saga has been a bit disappointing. Still AG has yet to remove his name from consideration and reinforce his commitment to []_[] Miami. For someone who claims to have followed the history of the []_[] and be responsible for upholding the legacy he is wetting the bed on this issue.

If there is a deal on the table, I would urge him to take it and go to Penn St. He's doing himself no favors here by making himself available for other jobs.
Posted by: Mahoney-Pearson | January 05, 2014 at 12:54 PM

look it was 10 degrees at PSU.....he aint leaving warm coral gables for that...nope

if he leaves...I will leave with him, lol

Posted by: Jim Gallo | January 05, 2014 at 12:56 PM

he did not really make himself available...all he did as an alumni was meet on his turf as a courtesy.....

an outright rejection in the press would be too harsh plus better to always leave doors open....its all strategic...

al golden is UM coach for 2014
Posted by: Jim Gallo | January 05, 2014 at 01:01 PM

I tell what all AG is doing now is P-I-S-S-I-N-G everyone off, and that includes the current players and recruits.
Posted by: Cola Cane | January 05, 2014 at 01:08 PM

well if you ever played football or coached it in the cold you would know that they all HATE it.....it totally sucks...

a p...sy like you would not last 5 mins today outside playing....and the winters are long and harsh.....he would be crazy to move his kids/wife up here.

he is entrenched in the coral gables lifestyle....beaches, he has his camps.....as much as I'd like to see him and his whole crew go....he is staying
Posted by: Jim Gallo | January 05, 2014 at 01:14 PM

he has not done anything....don't you get it...he has been totally silent.....mondays meeting will be that he is staying and reassuring his loyalty and commitment to UM's football program as a future powerhouse and national champion......

Louisville loss suddenly vanishes....and maybe some surprise staff changes....its perfect and quintessential al golden....the power/point genius...

Just a few responses to the news over the last week or so.

U decide who the liar is. Who really thought Golden was leaving?

Who truly cooks up lies and repeats them until they sincerely believe them to be true?

Tub O'ego, could you spend more time on this and compile longer lists of nonsense.

No one has any Golden-PSU facts. Maybe someday. I know you have trouble with this, but regurgitated assertions and rumors are not facts.

I saw on Barry Jackson's blog that Miami offered Treon Harris as a QB. Hopefully it's not too late.

Posted by: GatorKillerCane | January 09, 2014 at 05:37 PM

^^Totally irrelevant lol!

U disparaged your man God when U thought he had forsaken U! U going to hell.

I'm still not posting about "Golden/PSU facts" so why do U keep talking to me about it???

Gallo, the Listing Queen.

Maybe the maggot is a realtor.

Gallos lists while not totally correct carry more truth than the claim by Zook that he's an ex um player.

Guess you don't know what disparage means. Shocking.

You have no idea who initiated Golden-PSU contact and what transpired, yet you write:

Golden isn't leaving just leveraging UM again, into another undeserved raise for he and D'No.

Hey, FiveTitle ?

I got question for you ?

Can we win the sixth title with Al Golden ? If so, how long does it take ?

I think it is possible if we have the right QB ? Hope Kaaya can deliver next two years. We will see.

mountaincane/GKC, how do U know Golden accepted an interview? How do U know that Golden staying here means that he wasn't planning to stay here under all circumstances? How do U know that his interview hurt morale and recruiting outside of one player?

Where are your faaaaaaaaaaacts?

I see Tubby is still here with the hard hitting analysis and stone cold truths! The sebaceous blog cyst emptying your daily pus only to refill and return the next day.

Those who want the program to fail to satisfy their personal beliefs on a particular coach or scheme should get their head checked. 9-4 is 9-4 no matter how you slice it. I'm sure before the season many of you would have been quite satisfied if someone told you we'd end with that record given your constant end of the world outlook.

Bye for now trolls, enjoy the human centipede of negativity you love to create.

Treon Harris would be awesome although I prefer the taller traditional pocket passrs myself, but the kid is a playmaker, and you can't go wrong with the son of a coach, they live and breath football 24/7

Not my fault. LOL! Thats the vitriol truth-tellers always receive. Always been that way...always will.

Here's my response to the troll Tubby:

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

HarrietTubmanCane,

Tubman do your arms and/or brain hurt reaching so hard to make these dumb connections and half-cocked conspiracies? Al Golden isn't some evil genius. He's a football coach and I'm nearly 99% sure he doesn't have the time or energy to create this shadowy image you constantly paint. Next time you have one of these amazing thoughts, write it down on a piece of paper, crumple up that paper, and shove it directly up your rectum. Your ideas are more useful there.

Posted by: Worst Fans Ever | January 05, 2014 at 07:03 PM

PS: I love it that I have sent Tubby the Muslim troll on errands to find my previous posts, which by the way I stand by.

Just remember that Tubby admitted he doesn't follow any of the other college football coaches and doesn't know who they are, yet he sees himself as this blogs college football expert...hilarious!!

Tubby, "the sebaceous blog cyst emptying your daily pus only to refill and return the next day."

~Worst Fans Ever

Hilarious and true!!

Exposed yet again

Never claimed to be an expert once and still don't focus on any team/coach but UM. Your point??

U stand by Golden being the next coach at PSU soon? because thats what U wrote and there was no sweat about the re-posts, they were all under the same blog title lol! Easy work, don't mention it.

Harriet tubman and all you dumba55es:

Butch davis lied to us flat out. To our faces.

"im not going anyhwere"

2 weeks later he was on the red eye to cleveland

He has explained the timeline and what happened in detail.

Can U read racist?

^^^^^^^^^^^^

Do you ever stop trolling and lying?

My posts were based on what was being reported, which from Rivals.com they said Golden had agreed to a contract at PSU and would announce Monday last. Another so-called reliable source reported that Coach Golden was calling the team together to advise them he had taken the PSU job. Of course you know that, but you being a pathological liar and looking to belittle anyone that holds a positive view of the Canes have once again taken my comments out of context and as 'Worst Fans Ever' put it..."the sebaceous blog cyst emptying his daily pus only to refill and return the next day."

I recognize that my honest response to your lies will motivate you to post even more lies out of that diarrhea filled head of yours. So knock yourself out Mohamed.

Reports on FoxSport.com "University of Miami commit QB Brad Kaaya will likely be decommitting from the Canes and committing to UCLA after the Jan. dead recruiting period. UCLA Coach Jim Mora has put a full court press on Kaaya making him a top priority to replace Brett Hundley after he announced he'd be returning for his redshirt Junior year. UCLA will be a Top-10 pre-season team in 2014 and Kaaya would be in line to succeed Hundley in 2015. It has been well documented that the little known Kaaya, who committed to Miami back in August with hardly any top program offers, has alway considered UCLA his home state dream school. He had been waiting on not just an offer from the Bruins, but an offer that would see to it that he would be next in line to inherit Hundley's job once he makes the jump to the NFL as a sure 1st. rounder and likely top QB taken in the draft."

Now the offer to Harris makes all the sense in the world. Hope we steal him from FSU. We need a QB or two.

Gallo, the President of the Haters Society first claimed that Coach Golden was leaving the Canes to become the head coach at Penn State.

Now he claims Penn State never wanted Golden, despite their administration flying down to Miami to interview Golden as their first candidate.

So, posting lie after lie, day after day on a football blog is simply him doing what he's always done. Once he cooks up a lie and repeats it a few times he sincerely believe it's the truth!!

But why did U believe all of those sites when U have inside info and you're a former player---another lie.

U were wrong...period, U said he was leaving and started discussing replacements. Then lied on Gallo today lol! His posts are above...your problem is that U think everybody is just as dumb as yourself.

Man, if we lose Kaaya, weez in troubs.

I hope that the fox source is garbage. Trying to stay positive about who's coming in here...

Caniac,
So, just scoured the interwebs for any news on Kaaya to UCLA rumors...none to be found. Included foxsports, so can you provide a link?

No ad with half a brain would offer goldy a job before james franklin.

Tub O Ego, I've said in English as clearly as can be that I have no facts on the Golden-PSU drama. You are a rumor monger.

Did just see that Nigel Bethel ditched us today;

http://247sports.com/Player/Nigel-Bethel-22967

I have no idea what Franklin would do, assuming he was offered, but I'd keep my $3 million coming in at Vandy. Much rather be in Nashville at a school with modest football expectations. He'll be a hero for staying.

DZP apparently staying.

https://twitter.com/CanesInSight

And we got Trent Harris away from OSU and UF - same link as above...

Interesting read, sure to rustle some jimmies;

http://www.cbssports.com/general/writer/gregg-doyel/24403448/james-franklin-the-right-man-and-perfect-coach-for-penn-state

First line.

8:30 p.m. update: UM lost a key oral commitment tonight when Booker T. Washington 4-star cornerback Nigel Bethel announced he's flipping to Texas Tech. "Better opportunity for me at Tech," he said. Bethel had criticized UM's defensive scheme but said that didn't factor into his decision.

That leaves UM with three-star Miami Northwestern prospect Ryan Mayes as the only cornerback in the class, though at least two of UM's three safety commitments are possibilities to play cornerback, and Carol City receiver Trayone Gray also can play corner. And UM remains in the mix for four-star CB J.C. Jackson, a soft UF oral commitment.

Meanwhile, UM also stands at risk of losing another four-star oral commitment: Deerfield Beach running back Brandon Powell.

yep, that sounds about right. we'll have to rely on moving safeties to corner (which never works), a reciever to corner or hoping for someone else's commit to flip. So Valentine, Bethel, Powell and likely Kaaya. And more are sure to waver amid all this BS by Golden and him not WITHDRAWLING his name from Penn. St. consideration right away. But he wouldn't do that because he wanted PSU. But PSU didn't want him. The kids see him as unstable and our defensive scheme and DC as ridiculous. A once Top-3 Class is tumbling fast and all that talented depth that we so much need. It's not where you start, it's where you finish. And Feb. can't come soon enough. Just unreal.

Looks like the Recruiting Treadmill is starting to gain speed...

I guess we will see who sticks with us, who opts to leave, and who opts to flip to us...

Go Canes!

Bleeding Orange, Green & White!

The so called great recruiter just lost another. This class is slowly moving out of top ten probably ending up if lucky top 20. Losing a recruit to texas tech what a joke. All the florida teams are closing strong except the used car salesman.

Why would anyone get upset its doyel. The mans an idiot. The fact his only reason golden would be a bad fit is because paterno people like him because he played for paterno is idiotic. The truth is golden was never gonna leave miami no matter what others say. Golden would of known how to handle the ncaa crap and loss of scholorships having dealt with both at temple which he started with 50 scholorship players and didnt end up with a full 85 till his last year there to the thing at miami where they had to navigate ncaa. Thats why golden would of been a great fit at penn state . Saying a guy isn't a good fit because he played for paterno and paterno fans would welcome him is just stupid.

Posted by: Mike B. | January 09, 2014 at 09:30 PM

I don't follow this recruiting stuff very closely, so I may be completely wrong on this.

Sometime ago, it was reported that iBrandon Powell may go elsewhere if some other top RBs chose the U. Is that the case now?

With regards to Bethel, there is a rumor that the staff did not actively recruit him after his recent wavering. Why Lubbock among all places? Doesn't make sense.

Golden and co have been able to finish reasonably well even with the NCAA issues (getting Howard etc.), so I am hoping they can do their magic this year a whole lot better.

Posted by: Mike B. | January 09, 2014 at 09:30 PM

Great Post.

"yep, that sounds about right. we'll have to rely on moving safeties to corner (which never works)"

I doubt that it matters in this scheme our db's play like safties anyways. No need to worry, Chik is returning so look forward to seeing him covering the other teams best receiver.

Jim Gallo, could you just eat $4it and die. I am soooo tired of listening to your bs. Either support the Canes or get the hell off this blog.
