Sapp takes aim at D'Onofrio, Golden, Canes defense

Everybody seems to have an opinion when it comes to Miami's defensive woes.

Wednesday, former Hurricane and Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp made a guest appearance on WQAM's afternoon show with Adam Kuperstein and Channing Crowder and took his turn ripping Miami's defense.

“Don’t talk to me about Al Golden and whatever that D Coordinator’s name is,” Sapp said.

“Don’t ever hire someone that you can’t fire. That’s the golden rule. The D Coordinator is killing my school. That looks like no Miami defense in the history of our school.”

Former Canes cornerback Phillip Buchanan then chimed in too on Twitter.

Golden has defended D'Onofrio at every turn with Miami's defense and the last time he spoke with reporters in his end of the season wrap-up he did so again.

Here's a link to the Sapp audio on WQAM.

It shouldn't be long before the excuse makers go after HOF'er Sapp for these comments! I mean what does Sapp know about great defense right, what does Sapp know about UM?

Anybody with two eyes and a brain can see that Sapp is only be truthful about our D Coordinator. He truly is killing The U with his bogus schemes and piss poor coaching.

Maybe the former UM player who uses the handle Ron Zook will tell us all again how great our coaching staff is. Lol.

The only negative to Sapp's truthful comments are that Travonte Valentine models his game after Sapp and Sapp pretty much threw Golden and his horrible coordinator under the bus. TV is almost certainly LSU bound after giving Les Miles another soundbite to add to his arsenal of why Valentine should be going to LSU over Miami.

But Spence, Futch, and Howard said Dno knows football!!

Rofl

So much for "WE" put dlinemen in the nfl!!

Rofl

Sapp and P Buch=====TRUE CANES

rofl

I went to school with one of these guys, they even know more about Miami football collectively than this disgrace coaching staff has ever tried to eradicate from the DNA of the program in their time since moving over from the MAC.

Fire these losers and hire Dorsey. Low risk, high reward. Get on it Blake and get off the fashion show conference call in an attempt to be competent at your new job.

AL GOLDEN IS A CEREAL BOX COACH, THE U DESERVES BETTER. UM REMINDS ME OF THE DOLPHINS A WHOLE LOT OF IDIOTS IN CHARGE WITH NO BRAIN. THE U IS GOING TO BE A LAUGHING STOCK FOR A VERY LONG TIME.

Sapp is right this time!

Yes.... AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET U FREE, Remember Nigel Bethel on twitter said the U staff is getting a reputation of doing a lot of talking and not backing it up on the field.... CHECK OUT JAMES COLEY RUNNING HIS MOUTH ON TWITTER.... TALK TALK TALK TALK, HEY JAMES LET THE PLAYING ON THE FIELD DO YOUR TALKING, SOOOOOO U DONT HAVE TO BEG FOR KIDS....... ON FIELD IS LOUDER

I for one knew it was just a matter of time before THE GREAT FORMER CANES GOT INVOLVED. Don't think it will help. Golden can't fire Mark now, or he will look desperate. Up next ????? When Al took this job, he told the former players to come back. He's about to find out what Miami football is all about. And HEY I like the idea of DORSEY coming back as O C. Ray Lewis as head coach, and Sapp as D C. FEAR THE U HATERS.

Everyone agrees that the performance on the field has not been up to the U standards... But the reality is that they don't have the talent to deliver right now. And the former great ones from the U have every right to express their concern. But the public rant is not the way to do it, as that just pushes the talent away. Sapp and others should be instead offering any help they can to help land the blue-chipper defensive tackles, like Valentine. And THEN coming on-campus and offering to help to develop the new players - and be a true mentor. Unfortunately, your intentions are good, but your approach is horrible. You can't be a good role model by ranting in public. Help your beloved U, not hurt it. Please help bring back championships by getting more involved on-campus, and not in the press!

Wylebill are you crazy? I like Sapp and I can't disagree with anything he said about our terrible DC and Golden, but you want Sapp to be our DC? He has absolutely zero coaching experience! Some people on here write the craziest things.

The basis of the problem is Al Golden. As noted by University of Miami's hall of fame players.

No one on campus is seriously involved and sincere about bringing back championship so why should he? The sincerity isn't there its just a mirage to use UM as a stepping stone and secure employment until then.

What is Golden and staff bringing into the relationship with the talent that we seek? thats the issue, U can't catch a shark with seaweed on a hook.

There isn't an atmosphere for real Canes to return, when their advice and mentorship will contradict the paid employees currently steal money on campus.

Sapp & Buchanon ethered them boyz!

You know Sapp is a legend and was a beast of a Cane, but when you say sheet like he's saying and a recruit happens to catch the story what the F do you think he's thinking?? Yeah our D coach has issues and needs to change something, anything, to get us better on that side of the ball, we ALL know this, but GD man running off recruits, I mean is that the answer? Do you really want it discourage kids from coming to Miami? They didn't have social media around when Sapp and Buchanon and others were playing, kids READ this sheet, and take it to heart, especially from a HOF'er, so keep doing it Sapp and others, and just FUUUK up our recruiting class, and then we'll really stink, is that what you guys want?

Sapp and Buchanon need to remember that UM is their school and you don't make inflammatory comments that hurt your alma mater. There's a better way to handle the situation if they are not happy. Their lack of judgment only makes things worse for UM.

Waaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaah!

The Cane great was asked about the defense and he expressed how he feels, why are grown men expecting other grown men, *Canes* to blindly support and lie for a liar?

Dudes need lessons on what it means to be a man.

Its Golden's job to recruit talent, not Sapp's, he didn't premeditatedly bash the coaching staff--he answered a question.

The remedy is to coach better, nothing more , nothing less.

The leadership of Miami has made things worst for Miami for years. Two ex-players are not nearly as damaging to this program as Al and his bosses are.

Sapp and Buch don't owe UM anything especially when they have turned their collective backs to the U legacy of winning culture and style of play.

Sapp knows whats up when he correctly stated, “Don’t ever hire someone that you can’t fire. That’s the golden rule.

Men are being put before the U and everyone doesn't have to accept that.

Tubby that's the problem, and something you and your ilk don't seem to get, these recruits AREN'T MEN, they're kids, impressionable, take what they hear and read to heart kids, and who see twitter and instagram, and facebook, and all the other BS Sapp and them didn't have to go through. So you'd rather UM not get any good recruits simply because you don't want them to have to deal with Dno?? Maybe the better D recruits we get, can help mask his shortcomings, or who knows even help him change his D philosophy, ever think about that?
Seems to me all you care about is making your comments look justifiable, when someone else complains.
We have Golden, and for now we have Dno, he aint going ANYWHERE, why not encourage players to help us out instead of having what looks like a personal vendetta against the coaching staff. I also do NOT like how our D performed the past couple seasons, but also know we need RECRUITS to help us out.

To the new excuse maker for Al Golden. The previous coaches were fired for winning at the rate Al Golden is. While the talent was less for one of those coaches. If you do not know it yet, your new name still post the same excuses.

Notice when the real canes say it then another post is put up.lol

I"m not a fan of UM to support the employment outlook of D'No or Golden. I'm a fan of the kids and players who wear the U, especially those from South Florida.

The coaches ARE PAID MEN so they should be devising strategies that suit whatever kid commits no matter their star level. The shouldn't have a philosophy that stays put and doesn't flex to the talent available. Its not about them--they don't play---the players do.

Support the players by advocating for them to be coached by coaches who have skills and abilities that match their talent levels--thats the best and most effective recruiting tool.

That way NO ONE's opinion can harm or compromise whats on tape in the form of results.

I am a 30 yrs Cane fan, I have seen great D, and I have also seen a lot of good coaching at the U, this is the most pathetic coaching I have ever witness at the U, WE HAVE BEEN A D WITH SKIRTS FOR 3 YRS NOW.... FOR ANYBODY TAKING UP FOR AL GOLDEN, SHOULD BE SENT TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE...... AIM.... NEXT.... A whole month to prepare for Loserville, and they got ANOTHER ONE OF GOLDENS GREAT COACHING ACTS

U don't like the way the defense has performed, but your only stated remedy for that issue is the recruitment of better talent.

Thats throwing the current Canes under the bus and not being fair to the coaches component that is an imperative aspect of football.

Practice what U preach and support the players.

Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,Excuse,............. D IS TRENDING UP..... ROFLMFAO

It is embarrassing that a former player, champion, HOF and ESPN analyst has to say this on a radio show to get the message to some BOT's that defend Al Folden just because he has blue eyes...

Al Folden is a 49-49 lifetime coach..He has never won a bowl game, he has never won a conference or division, he has never beaten a ranked team, he is like 6-26 against team with winning record..

Al Folden you are a disgrace and D corch sucks!!

The former players have a right to express their opionions just like everyone else. Golden is standing by his staff, and told the U fans that he will not change. We all have to respect his decision, because it's his future as a HC at the U or any other major university.

Sapp played at the highest level, and his thoughts about the future plans with the D have been expressed by numerous fans. Sapp comments will not run off recruits! He is trying to prevent a total collapse surrounding the future of the football program. If Golden decide to change, then I believe he will get the support from the former players. If Golden DO NOT CHANGE, the administration would have provided self-imposed sanctions for the next two years.

Basically, both coordinators are not experience enough to make changes, and this is the reason recruits select another college to play football. By Sapp coming out, I really believe this coaching staff will roll up their sleeves and make changes. The seat is getting real hot in South Florida! Dorsey is getting a lot of experience, and the formal canes on coaching staffs in the NFL too.

finally.....what I have been saying since 2011. These coaches don't have it....its all in their history and data.....

fire them all...NOW

"Al golden…….."Again, it's my decision, and my decision was that starting over for these young people is not the answer," he continued. "Continuity, continued progress, continue with the same position coaches and techniques and scheme was the better answer for me. I made that decision after careful evaluation".

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE TOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLDDD []_[] !!!

HOLA ARTY !!!

Wylebill are you crazy? I like Sapp and I can't disagree with anything he said about our terrible DC and Golden, but you want Sapp to be our DC? He has absolutely zero coaching experience! Some people on here write the craziest things.

What he said!

Some Canes fans loved it when they went after their own(Shannon), but fans are mad @ a former Cane for going after our current DC? WTF!!!!!

Cant tell a great like Sapp to shut up. He can say what he wants. But I wonder what type of impact that will have on some 'on the fence' recruits. We need every D lineman was can get. That T Valentine dude appears to be the TRUTH. But if I'm Les Miles, I'm calling him TONIGHT to let him know what Warren Sapp said. Just sayin...

For y'all that says sapp is running away recruits are crazy. Recruits have been running away for a while. They aren't blind. They see now that the staff is all talk and don't make players better. Sapp was asked a question and was truthfull. These kids see the defense getting burned week after week and the head coach won't make a change. That shows that Golden could care less about it too. Get this punk out of Miami fast. Matter of fact, rid the whole staff. No position has been consistent or good enough to keep these back burner coaches around. Good recruits that come to Miami now are taking a gamble. I wouldn't send my son to play football there now as much as I love the canes. They won't make him better. What has Kirby done, he was the #2 linebacker in the country that year. What has Tracy Howard done, number 1 db in the nation out of high school. Chickillo, #3 de in the nation. These are just a few names that have looked bad. I understand the ranking system isn't on the head all the time, but dam, all our good recruits seem like the weakest players on the defense. Can't tackle, can't pass rush, and can't get on the field. Now if this defense sucks this year( which I know they will), golden would have to be forced out if he doesn't rid himself of the staff. McCord, chikillo, bush, Howard, grace, Thomas, perryman, Kirby, Muhammad, burns, carter, Hamilton, Jackson, Hester, Molton. These are four and five star defenders. Yes, four are freshman, but good coaches coach up freshmen to be good, ask vtech fsu and duke. That's four d ends, two tackles, three linebackers, 2 DBS, and three safeties that were recruited highly. Not many teams can say they have that yet, watch how they find away not to coach them up to their potential. These players sprinkled in with the three star back ups that could potentially be decent should not allow these 500 yard games in the acc. But due to the fact our coaches have no clue,( and were clueless in the Mac conference too), I hate it for top recruits that come now. It's like playing roulette, not knowing what could happen, all you know is you'll play. But it's a difference between playing and being a force, and playing and looking like an embarrassment week in and week out.

Goldenshowers,
Sapp could do no worse than this clown we have now.
and the answer is yes I am crazy. Auburns head coach was coaching high school football last year. They turned out pretty fair I think. Anyway, it was a joke. except for Dorsey. I do like what hes doing with Cam Newton.

I would rather watch a D get burned, instead of a 8 minute drive, and then watch a 3 and out performance by the NO OOOOOOOOO......... GREAT FOOTBALL, FREAKING IDIOTS

@@@@@@@

Exactly! Chit, those FOOLS at that canespace want to LYNCH and CRUCIFY Sapp for being a Heretic and what not. Go figures'. Heck, Warren was bloody well SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER and what not. hUh

Enough said about D'Onofrio. From this day forward--it's been 3 complete seasons. He can produce or get pounded in the media. These guys (Golden & D'Onofrio) want to back into their salaries by telling fans, media, and whoever will listen that Sanctions thwarted their progress. Time to stop hiding and produce results or get out of town.

@@@@@@@

Why are you such a Chump arse FOOL, fool!

Heck, opposing college football recruiting staffs are SAYING the same thing Sapp is opining. That Hurricane defensive coordinator is PATHETIC and Miami's team defense has been absolutely ATROCIOUS the past three seasons! dUh

WS is a POS.

I think all the criticism of the D is valid.

BUT there is not another team in the country with fans and alums that want to rehash that junk a week before NSD. Doing so can only hurt our haul. Warren's mouth has always been bigger than his IQ, anyway.

Make no mistake, the pressure is on the D and Coach D'Ono. You don't need to keep harping on it. You need to be patient and let it play out.

The D has been terrible but my question to everyone is after Goldens first year name a D lineman with NFL talent?..Chickhillo who played to early maybe...The sanctions hurt Miami big time at DL...look who Miami lost in the last few years Louis Nix, Eddie Goldberg, Keith Bryant ..Butch Davis took a while to build back Miami and give Golden another year...Plus the defense looked better until Duke Johnson went down...When the offense sputtered the defense was on the field to long and got wasted...Miami does not have depth and give Golden and staff at least one more year ..these guys made TEMPLE FOOTBALL and produced a first round DL at TEMPLE...Sapp can say what he wants but he has been invited to Miami and maybe he could step up and do something help recruiting..He can say what he wants but his timing was not the best..I think he can be critical but I also believe this still goes back to firing Of Randy Shannon and having a Penn State guy in charge

Upostive like some of the things u stated...For everyone who wants Golden gone...who are you going to get?..Miami may have better choices now since NCAA crap is over but realistically who can MIami get?..Forget about all the big names Miami cant afford them..Hell Miami could not even afford to keep Mario Cristobal there because Alabama offered him more money...Sapp where have you been? have u been on campus? If you care so much about Miami were is your Edgerrin James room?..Again considering the lack of depth and talent that Shannon left..Golden has done alright..Miami should have won at least 10 games but Duke got hurt and lack of depth like Alex Collins going to Arkansas because of NCAA crap hurt Miami down the stretch..remember past Miami coaches always left talent for the next guy...Give Golden time to add talent

Some of you are just plain stupid, no other way to address it. Everyone keeps saying defense, when collectively the offense can not substain drives. Yes, the offense can strike quick fast and in a hurry, but if they don't which happened more often then a quick score the defense again suffers. Don't get me wrong I don't like the look of things no more than most of you, but you can't point the finger solely at the defense. No one is going after James Coley, why? His play calling at was not up to par. The offense should have been dominate, but they were not. Which led the defense to being on the field a lot more than they should have. With the lack of depth the fatigue played a a crucial roll in the defense failures. Like I said before this will be the first year of seeing what these coaches have, minus the ncaa crap and all the negative crap from other schools, now add warren sapp to the plus side of negative crap, because his words will reflect on this class.

Manny, you are the biggest Cane killing reporter we have ever had. Why can't you bring us some positive information? I think we would be better off if we had a Florida Gator beat writer doing your job.

You amaze me sometimes
