Report: Seantrel Henderson failed drug test at NFL combine

Citing multiple league sources, ESPN reported Monday morning former Miami Hurricanes right tackle Seantrel Henderson tested positive for marijuana use at the NFL scouting combine.

It's hardly surprising news. The 6-8, 339-pound former USA Today Offensive Player of the Year told The Miami Herald in January before the Senior Bowl marijuana played in a role in his three suspensions at UM.

Last month, Henderson failed to complete his UM pro day workout for scouts. His agent said he was dehydrated and felt sick. He was also eight pounds heavier than he was at the combine.

Henderson, who started 26 of the 43 games he played in at UM, is ranked the 14th best offensive tackle prospect by NFLDraftScout.com and projected to be a third day pick in this week's draft.

LET'S GO CANES!!!

WOW!!!!

Yesterday's news⚡️💥🔥🙌

He may be yesterdays news but I am todays news on WQAM. Go cane beisbol! #canesfam

Blame Randy in 3.....2.....1

Weeding out the deadwood continues...

man I already mentioned this garbage. This guy is an idiot. Good riddens!

LETS GO CANES 2014 !!!!!

Shannon and Golden had the opportunity to address Henderson's issue with cannabis use. Basically, we wish Henderson the best, but he's responsible for his own actions. Henderson failed his pre-employment interview, and the employer(s) will make a decision to hire or decline.

Henderson's issue to deal with...not an U problem anymore. As for ESPN, when are you going to report on the graduation rate of the SEC football programs whom you have a contract with? Susan and Manny; with respect, please write about the current roster players. How's Duke and Yearby recovery coming along? How is Coley/OC preparing his young QBs? How will DC use Tyriq as an every down player this year? Why is Golden and staff spending majority of the spring recruiting in NJ, PA, TX, and CA? How did Alabama and former Cane football player get two 5-stars from south Florida to verbally commit? Why is Golden and OC going to a ball-control system on offense?

How did Alabummer get two So.Florida 5 stars? Really RHC?
LOLOL.

Good points otherwise.

What a shame this young man starts his adult life this way. It can no longer be called youthful ignorance and excused by the PC crowd. Then again, if he's drafted by the Broncos or Seahawks it could get VERY interesting.

Dont mess with dead wood put it to the side it wont get better. He could have been better but he chooses not to let him bag grocerys in his hometown, that should be big improvement, get rid of all drug abusers in NFL.

Richmond Heights good points..

You are bringing it 'bruh!!!.

Seantrel is yesterdays news....let us focus Manny and Susan on the team for 2014 and how we are progressing and moving towards a challenging, rewarding season...

All one can say to Seantrel is good luck and have a happy life if possible!!!
Go 'Canes

As an employer friend of mine used to put it, Henderson just has a bad case of the dumb ass.

Getting rid of Randy Sannonsrecruits from 2007-2011: ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION.

Most of Miami's players from that era were of waste of physical and football talent. I blame Shannonand all of theassistnat coaches for their lack of ability to manage these players and coach them up or not recruit them altogether.

Iblame the kids for their lazy, entitled, unmotivated attitudes. I guarantee there were 10-20 other offensive linemen from between Key west to Fort Pierce that would have given their lives, blood and soul to play for the U and anyone would have contributed more than this big lug. This gigantic waste of God-given physical athletic talent. This would also apply to players like Ramon Buchanan, Tommy Streeter, Aldarius Johnosn, K Thompkins and Jacorry Harris among many others.

Give me a break. THIS INCIDENT EXEMPLIFIES EVERYTHING THAT HAS BEEN WRONG WITH MIAMI FOOTBALL FROM 2011-2013

AND YES, I ALSO BLAME GOLDEN

It's pronounced OOF,

If Golden is a good recruiter (i.e. Schelly and JJ), Alabama would not come into south Florida and pull elite recruits. Saban took over failing programs at LSU and Alabama, and no one was able to recruit his elite HS players. My issue is...before you travel around the country recruiting players who has about 5% interest in the U...please ensure the gates are locked at home. Too many coaches have access to our house, and no one has decided to change the locks.

How's Duke and Yearby recovery coming along? "Good"

How is Coley/OC preparing his young QBs? "Coaching"

How will DC use Tyriq as an every down player this year? "Let him play 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th down"

Why is Golden and staff spending majority of the spring recruiting in NJ, PA, TX, and CA? "Frequent flyer miles"

How did Alabama and former Cane football player get two 5-stars from south Florida to verbally commit? "Cash"

Why is Golden and OC going to a ball-control system on offense? "Make us sweat in the stands longer to help with the concessions"

Cutler Ridge, are you appearing all week or one night only?

These guys are given a lottery ticket and all they have to do to cash it is to not do drugs, not get into trouble and work hard at their profession and many of them mess that up. Tell me again how pot is not addictive since he knew when the combine test was and still could not refrain from smoking it and testing positive. The guy is just not very smart and I hope the Dolphins stay clear of him and his addiction.

Sam, pretty clear that henderson really doesn't care for football. I don't think he wants to play or he wouldn't possibly be so dumb.

I'll be WQAM all week to discuss canes beisbol.

Sad to say it, but, with all that talent and to go down the tubes thataway. Only question Sentreal, is how many millions are you willing to sacrafice before you learn. No matter who drafts you that weed will be sitting with your and your agent every time you go to negotiate a contract. Maybe, the CFL will have you like all the other hasbeens and neverwases. Once sent to the farm team (CFL) the big leagues (NFL) will see if you can weed out your problems. You may have been 5 Star in HS, but, your 0 Star now and is wasn't the U's fault. You brought it upon yourself.

This is a known issue. Reported numerous times here at The Herald.

Espn is not a reputable sports outlet, because of how they report stories like a dog being wagged by it's tail. Stick to being the worldwide leader in other stuff, but sports.

The condemning part would be if this was a positive result from a urinalysis. That is about a 45 days window into if there was usage. But hair test are viewable for months. It does show that Seantral Henderson has a usage of weed problem.

It cannot be an addiction. There are absolutely no physical withdrawal symptoms when weed is not used. It is just as ridiculous as a sex addiction. You will never get the shakes, lose control of your body functions, or any of the things that happen to you from withdrawal from true addictions. Like drugs that cause actual addiction, nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, prescription medicines, heroin, cocaine. The deadly drugs that do cause addiction and death.

Marijuana … the exact opposite of a P.E.D. What a ridiculous waste of time and energy on an absolute non issue.

Some people aren't ready for their BLESSING.....
All that size and talent...But upstairs is lacking! Way to rep The U'', Better yet, that Henderson name on the back of that jersey. Better wake up Brother!!!

So much for the harmless effects of pot...This guy has a drug addiction...He doesn't like how he feels naturally...He needs rehab or he is done...

ChampCane,

Addiction is defined with two criteria: physiological and psychological withdrawal symptoms...The latter may include irritability, cravings and depressed mood. There are cellular changes when a pot addict stops, though you are right, they won't necessarily produce frank physical withdrawal symptoms.

However, current research is showing cellular brain changes with use of as little as once or twice per week. Behavioral effects are well known, like amotivational syndrome, flat affect and in some cases, paranoia, physiological symptoms of anxiety and increased depression.

This not a benign drug...

Gator Beisbol is better than []_[]rs.

3-game end of the season weekend series against Alabama State? Really ? Way to boost that RPI u g[]_[]tless wonders.

Oh wow, bummer, pack it in, season over, we stink. Ooopsie, I forgot we beat you BUMS, wow you must REALLY stink then, lol.

I agree with dbc, pot is not a benign drug in its current state. Its being tampered with and manipulated into a drug that is extremely addictive and harmful…on purpose.

Seantrel Henderson is way beyond stupid. Had he applied himself in college (and I don't mean scholastically. I mean on the field) he could have been a top 10 pick He has the G-d given ability. He is just WAY stupid. He will not make it in the NFL. He is lazy, stupid and incapable of controlling his temptations. What a waste of physical gifts.

"What a shame!" "How sad" "Seantrel is stupid!" "Talent down the tubes"
REALLY PEOPLE????
This is the first guy to smoke weed before the Combine?
Weed is practically legal across this country except here in "bumpkin land" run by a crew of backwater moronic politicians.
As long as Seantrel lines up, blows his guy off the line scrimmage on Sundays, he will get his $$$. It's not the end of the world for an Athlete to test positive for marijuana. What were you doing at his age? A bunch of kettles calling the pot black.

Those who keep saying seantrel has top 5 talent are only saying that because of his size, have any of you ever thought about the fact that that man was just never that good but was solid but since he's that size and is not dominating like bryant mckinnie, people want to put him down and say "lack of effort".

In all his games, this guy never looked dominant since he's been here, he was solid at best but couldn't do much with speed rusher and like morris inconsistent. I said it when they started recruiting seantrel that i didn't think he was that good and plus he was from minnesota, people tried to tell me, "steve walsh came from minnesota" like i said back than and it's stil True now, so what.

In context, seantrel being 6'8 or 6'9 and 3-whatever doesn't mean he's going to be a dominant o-linemen, it's comparable to a guy that shows up at the combine running a 4.2 who you never heard of and than scouts get enamored because of that 4.2 speed, doesn't mean he can play football at a high level. Just brings speed to the team just as seantrel just brought size to the team.

When ereck flowers got here i said it early on, that's our starting right tackle, neither seantrel nor the ucla transfer were going to get that spot, you could see early on that flowers had what it took, you never saw that with henderson or bunche, both of those 2 don't have the best feet anyway.

Now on the weed issue, people don't yet realize that the draft game is a dirty game, the teams that leak the bad news out the most are most of the times the same teams who want that certain/said player and are trying to throw out the easy red flags to keep other teams away from em as they hope that players is still there later on.

Alot of team want seantrel just because of how big he is, seantrel didn't lack effort on the field, he had self pride out there, but if seantrel was 6'4 330, instead of 6'8/9, nobody would be talking about him being a 1st round pick.

For example, now let's see how many nerd websites all of a sudden start giving this guy stars just based on this alone:

c'mon now.. Alabama and Louisiana talent combined doesn't compare to S. Fla. Start by understanding that guys leave Florida to play. Same reason Joe Yearby and Dalvin Cook aren't playing together now. People leave to be starters elsewhere. Who is gonna come from Alabama to play here? How many kids? He can keep his Alabama kids because there are so few in comparison to S. Fla.. Take any other region and keep kids home then watch S. Florida win every year. Not even close RHC. Come again.

Five weeks ago, I went down to Miami on a spring visit. What stood out more than anything was how relaxed Al Golden seemed.

All was quiet around the program for the first time in years. Golden smiled easily, reinvigorated after a nine-win season, some early wins on the recruiting trail and the NCAA mess long in the rearview. Indeed, the story I wrote read, in part, Al Golden and the Hurricanes enjoy drama- and controversy-free spring.

[+] EnlargeAl Golden
Steve Mitchell/USA TODAY Sports
Seems like whenever things start looking up for Miami and coach Al Golden, another setback pops up from out of nowhere.
Well, the drama-free part did not last long.

Quarterback Ryan Williams tore his ACL during a scrimmage three-quarters of the way through spring practice, leaving the Hurricanes extremely vulnerable at the position.

What, exactly, does Golden have to do to catch a break around Coral Gables? Four years in, and the setbacks just keep on coming.

When he was initially hired in December 2010, Miami had a grand total of two commitments. Four high-profile players backed out of commitments after Randy Shannon was fired, including quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and current Louisville receiver Eli Rogers.

Golden scrambled to put together a class, but what appeared to be a potential top-25 group when Shannon was in charge turned into one of the lowest-rated classes the Canes had signed in years.

Then in August 2011, the NCAA began investigating Miami over improper benefits allegations made by convicted felon Nevin Shapiro. Eight Miami players received suspensions, and four more were punished. Ultimately, Miami self imposed a two-year postseason ban, costing it a spot in the ACC title game in 2012.

Last October, the NCAA finished its investigation, taking away scholarships and putting the program on three years' probation. The clouds finally parted, and an emotional catharsis began. Only a few weeks later, leading rusher Duke Johnson broke his ankle and Miami ended up losing four of its last six games after rising as high as No. 7 in the polls.

Now, Golden goes into the season hoping that Kevin Olsen will be everything Williams was during the spring. The early results were not encouraging, but the game plan remains the same. Miami has to rely heavily on Johnson and stay out of third-and-long situations on offense to help Olsen succeed best. During the ACC coaches call last week, Golden tried to put an optimistic spin on the situation, saying the team would have confidence in Olsen or whoever ends up starting against Louisville on Labor Day night.

What is undeniable is that Golden begins Year 4 facing some sort of adversity. Again.

Yep, that's because the headmoron & his sissy arse d-co are bad luck for UM!

There Calvin the racist goes again with the name calling of the current headcoach of the UM hurricanes- why? because he has nothing else. He has no facts to back anything up.

Go eat your popeyes and shtfu

Has all the attributes to be a dominant o lineman...but he does not have common sense, accountability, and dependability. Some people can never learn from their mistakes until its too late. I hope he gets it together because he could be a great talent if he could just get his mind right

Go Canes!

Brandonspikesandtebowareboyfrnds,

Not only do you contradict yourself by calling someone a racist, who said nothing on THIS thread about race, you finish it with a popeyes remark?

The remark suggests' YOUR'RE the racist. But your name guarantees that you are a closet fairy boy.

Biscuits anyone?

I hope Seantrel doesn't continue down the same path as Willie Williams, someone who has the potential to be an exceptional player, but lets his little vices get in the way.

Mahoney-Pearson,

Good feedback, but you missed my point! The best talent in Alabama and Louisiana usually stay home, because of their HCs. I never stated which state had the best talent. Basically, take care of your house (player pool) before you visit someone else home. Alabama and Louisiana have good talent too. I just believe the time and energy put in recruiting outside of south Florida is a waste of money that we don't have. I believe our 2 and 3 star recruits who has that south Florida football passion are better than the 4-5 star recruits from other states. Yes, I am bias...based on my observation.

For example, Trayone Gray and Gayot are big time recruits whom received lower ratings because of the talent level in south Florida. Louisville current roster has about 15 players from south Florida who were not recruited by the U in the past 3 years. If the majority of coaches around the country are coming to your region...then the U must establish a powerful presence in their own backyard. IMO

THE CANES SEASON WILL STILL COME DOWN TO HOW THE DEFENSE PERFORMS THIS TEAR.. THE TALENT IS THERE !! IS IT PERFECT TOP 10 TALENT "HELL NO" BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE..TOP 30 TALENT ? YES BUT THE DC IS TERRIBLE WHO HAS NO IDEA HOW TO USE THIS TALENT.. CASE IN POINT CHICKILLO NEEDS TO STAY AT DT ON A ROTATING BASIS AND PLAYING ONLY ON 3RD DOWN /PASSING SITUATIONS. TYRIQ AND MOHAMMED NEEDS TO PLAY OFTEN AND ON EVERY DOWN, PIERRE NEEDS TO BE DOMINATE OR HE GOES TO THE BENCH.. THE BIGGEST D-LINEMEN THAT STRONGEST AGAINST THE RUN SHOULD START AND TO STOP TEAMS FROM TROWING ALL THESE SHORT,BALL CONTROL PASSES , PLAY MORE MAN/MAN TIGHT COVERAGE (MOST FLA. HS PLAY BUMP/RUN) THE TALENT IS THERE BUT 1986 BIG 10 FOOTBALL DOES NOT WORK IN SOUTH FLA. LAST YEAR HAD DUKE NOT GOT HURT THIS TEAM WINS 10/11 GAMES BUT THAT WAS RESULT OF SCHEDULE..THIS YEAR TALENT SHOULD WIN THE CANES THE ACC COASTAL AND A 11 WIN SEASON(BOWL GAME INCLUDED) BUT ONLY IF THIS DC FIGURES IT OUT.. IF HE DOES WE WILL BEAT BOTH LOUISVILLE AND NEBRASKA WHY ? DUKE JOHNSON !! ENOUGH SAID !!.

So now Golden for pres is defending the racist Calvin- Calvin IS a RACIST, you moron, He hates Golden and donofrio simply bc they are white. period end of story. Why does he have to refr to coach Golden as moron? That kind of disrespect is infantile at best. But we know its bc his boyfriend Randy Shannon was canned.

He uses the garbage that We are instituting a penn state system here-- butthat hasnt panned out.

He says that we no longer have speed. Yet Coley and Dorsett not to mention Duke are speed demons who everyone fears.

Tebow... calls him out and so do I, and then Harriet (another black panther) comes to his defense with pseudo intellectual jibber jabber. Cant wait to hear her response.

RHC,
Alabummer can recruit our backyard best because of their W/L record and contention for NC's this last decade.

AG has done a remarkable job of recruiting, especially considering he hasn't done anything really noteworthy on the field.

Elite talent kids want to play for the best. Like it or not, the SEC has been the best for awhile, so they can poach from anywhere.

The SEC coopted the best elements of the Canes' formula, benefitted, and now the rest of CFB is coopting the best elements - see FSU.

AG wants to do the same, despite some people here contending he is trying to revive 80's Big Ten FB.

Can he? This is the year that HIS recruits start to show if his process works...

I could see it going either way.

Go Canes

Popeyes huh? Yeah ok buddy, I know what you're all about.

And some fools still wonder why it is called dope.

It's pronounced OOF,

I concur with you, but still not comprehening my point. If you are going to look for a diamond in the rough, why go outside of Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties? Stop whinning and dinning these recruits who have no intentions to commit to the U during the last two weeks prior to signing day. They are all just looking for a vacation for self and family. How many has Golden flip outside of south Florida? How many has Golden loss from south Florida? Too much time spent in NJ and PA, and I do believe they have good football programs too. Schnelly developed the blueprint on building a championship program, and it started in his own backyard...with a few good players from other states (i.e., Kelly, Kosar, Maryland, Kennedy, McKinney, etc).

The core or foundation came from the state of Florida. Butch Davis and staff reestablished depth, but Coker disregarded the blueprint by using the rating services. Furthermore, Schnelly, JJ, and Butch surrounded themselves with an excellent coaching staff that could enhance the talent level of the players. Stop looking for this ideal size player who can gain weight to match a scheme that has not produced. Just recruit football players and develop them.

I am supporting coach Golden, but I am starting to get frustrated with this across country recruiting system and evaluation. The out of state players are offered, but they have not attended one of his evaluation camps. I noticed that the coaches are now evaluating the players at their school...then offer. Who are they playing against? I recalled last year, BTW went into Georgia to play against this elite football program. One of the players were listed as one of the best DE in the country. However, BTW's short and powerful OL exposed this overrated rating system. By the way, the U offered the DE from Georgia, but did not offer the BTW OL.

My point....................period

^^^Excellent post. I saw that game where the small BTW dominated the GA DE. Perfect example to make your point.

RHC,

LOL, yo comprendo,

"Furthermore, Schnelly, JJ, and Butch surrounded themselves with an excellent coaching staff that could enhance the talent level of the players."

Boom.

There it is.

Agreed.

My only rebuttal to the out of state recruiting lies on the fact that BD did get some really great players that weren't So. Fla - Dorsey, Shockey, etc...Coker even pulled G Olsen from NJ in 2003, so there are good finds out there...

But I do agree with the thrust of your argument. I am a fan of the Schnelly fence.
