Senior Dale Carey named ACC Player of the Week as Canes continue to surge nationally in baseball

Once again, the Hurricanes are making news on the national baseball front as senior center fielder Dale Carey was named ACC Player of the Week on Monday, the same day that UM saw its highest rankings in all the polls.

UM is ranked fourth by Collegiate Baseball, seventh by Baseball America and 12th in the USA Today coaches' poll.

The Canes are now 38-14 overall and 22-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, having won 25 of its past 27 games and a nation-leading 15 consecutive away games.

UM is coming off its fourth consecutive ACC road sweep, with Carey making a big contribution to the effort.

Carey, from Marietta, Ga., led the team with a .429 batting average (6 for 14) in three games against the Blue Devils. He hit his first career grand slam in Saturday's 9-1 win and led UM with six RBI for the weekend. He also finished 3-for-3 in stolen bases.

In the series finale Sunday, Carey hit a game-tying RBI single and started another game-tying rally later with a double.

The senior is the only Hurricanes who has started all 52 games this season, going 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI single in a 7-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast.

The Canes have the best record in the ACC, and end the regular season against ACC foe North Carolina (30-21, 14-13) with a three-game set Thursday through Saturday at Mark Light Field.

After that it's the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, N.C., and then the NCAA tourney that should begin with UM hosting a regional.

For those who haven't come to a game, I'd highly suggest it. It's a really nice, low-key, kid-friendly atmosphere and the fans are among the best I've seen in college sports.

See you Thursday.

Oohhhh it ain't my fault!!!

Where's the Gaytor clown talking OOF baseball now????

And where are the blog clowns HTC and Calvin and how will they figure out how to blame Al Golden for global warming and gas prices????

And why haven't HTC and Calvin proclaimed that UM Baseball improvements are because of Randy Shannon???

Them boys slippin......

I can't tell you how rewarding it is
to see a team that started with such
low expectations end the season with
them so high. Let's hope for the best
--These kids certainly deserve it!

Look, I'm as happy as any other Cane fan at how well UM baseball is doing this year. I've been very critical of Morris for at least 3 years and I take none of it back. He became very lazy a s a recruiter and rested on his past laurels. Lazy recruiters don't do the hard work in trying to get some good players who probably won't turn pro. I never said the game passed him by or that he couldn't coach. He knew he had to get back to work this year and got more involved in the day to day operation of the team. If he doesn't do this every year, the team will fall back again. I hope he continues to display the time of high energy necessary to maintain a Program as great as UM's. We'll see what his energy energy level is next year. There's no more resting on past success.

Thanks Montreal_Cane. The team is really fun to cover.

+1 regarding Susan's work and enthusiasm.
How can USA Today explain the disparity in it's ratings? Regardless of how UM finishes, a team that wins 24 of 26 games against solid competition, with multiple award wining players NOT in their Top 10 at least?
BTW, the Canes ROAD record has to be the best in the ACC and one of the best in the country.

GO Canes!!!

Just looked at USA Today's ranking. They apparently based it on overall record pretty much, yet the Canes have the best record in their conference, both home an away and are 11 spots down from Virginia?

Oh well. Gotta do it on the field anyway.

Very proud of the baseball squad, they have done nothing but KICK ASS!! Way to go guys, 3 more games left, at home against UNC no less. Let's finish with a SWEEP!!! GO CANES!!!!

u loose again, since you forgat we beat you this year 2 out of 3, I will have to remind you again. We beat you 2 out of 3. Your team is good, but they are not that good. You just lost to Vanderbilt 2 out of 3, and the last game it was an embarrasment to the team. Keep talking because all you're is a wounded duck.

21-16

Mark Light is a great venue and very family friendly! Hopefully some of the people who comment on this thread won't attend those games and ruin them for everyone else.

Well, well, well. Miami is ranked ahead of the gators in every poll, has a better record, and won 2 of 3 head to head. No excuses left for you to be here, gatorbaby.

u are u, looking up at the Canes, just like in football.

rboud, disagree on your recruiting comment. Baseball recruiting is trickier than football. Shoot too low and you don't get good players. Too high and your recruits get drafted too high and off they go to the minors.

Talent not as stacked in so fla as in football either so not as much of a geographic advantage.

College world series winners pretty spread out geographically and by school size.

That said, I thought Morris was past his peak. This year buys him time.

Agree with GatrKC

I still think Moris is stale. Players are playing out of theior minds. Making less errors but still have lost games from sloppy errors. Recruiting is better. Someone (soemthing) lit a fire under Morris butt over the postseason. His seat was definitely getting hotter and I was one that have called for him to get booted

Hey Alain Dubius, how come you never post as canesrule anymore? Everybody knows it's you Montreal Cane

### UM likes the new MLS stadium site proposed by Miami-Dade mayor Carlos Gimenez ---- on a boat slip between Museum Park and AmericanAirlines Arena --- and it “appears to be big enough” for a 40,000-seat stadium if David Beckham decides to build one that large to accommodate UM football (which is still undecided), deputy mayor Chip Iglesias tells us.

The stadium would “need to go into Bicentennial Park somewhat” even if it’s a 25,000-seat stadium, Iglesias said.

UM, still awaiting word from Beckham’s group on the viability, believes the parking situation would be better there than the PortMiami site.

The odds still favor UM remaining at Sun Life, because of multiple factors --- including the high cost to Beckham of building a stadium with 40,000 seats, plus the fact UM has 18 years left on its Sun Life lease and might not be able to get out of it. But UM said it won’t make a decision until it gets clarity from Beckham’s group.

.

JESUS H CHRISTO !!! []_[]r not getting ANY Stadium built Downtown u dUmb, deaf n blind clUcks !!!

Why don't u get some c[]_[]ban ref[]_[]gees, that went to Dade South, have them round up a couple of thousand 50 Gallon barrel drums, a ton of 2x4's n plywood, make a 50yrd. X 120yrd. GIGANTE raft... Then slap some porch/patio astro turf on top of it and float it in the middle of scUm filled Lake Osceola on Campus and VIOLA u dumb clUcks got u an on campus Football Field. Then all 10-15 thousand of u delUsional dolt cluck fans can circle the entire Lake Osceola with everyone getting their very own front row seat...

u can call it, ELIAN GONZALEZ FIELD AT LAKE OSCEOLA FLOATING DOCK MARINE STADIUM... The Halftime innertube raft races would be EPIC !!!

QuE PASA ARTuRO !!! See you for the Super Regional before OMAHA !!!

... And if u make the Lake Oseola floating field 60yrds. X 130yrds, u can make some $ hosting some Soccer matches and perhaps World Cup Prelims... But you'd have to get a couple thousand of the youth soccer kids from Coral Gables, Tamiami, Westchester, Hialeah and Opa Locka bobbing around in the water wearing Orange life vests to throw the balls back into play...

Yup

Thats right, UM has no on campus staidum, you, dumb gator cluck-

Despite that, we still own the turds-

What does that say about the sad pathetic stste of 50,000 student UF, and its 90,000 on campus stadium???

UF doesn't have a stadium either, that is owned by the taxpayers, including folks that graduated from UM. In fact, we on average pay more in taxes than those trailer trash that are sitting in jail, like Aaron Hernandez.

So, essentially WE own that decaying septic tank, just like the Canes own the gators.

Play in a Super Bowl quality and National Championship quality stadium, and get paid to do so, oooorrrr, play in a dump that can't even host the Gator Bowl, let alone the poulan weedeater bowl, and have the costs eat away from the little education provided to the "students" there. Sound like the Canes got the better of the deal.

Ahhh yes, you must be referring to the 10 to 15k clucks that watched us lay waste to your pathetic team. Yep I remember them, and apparently you do as well, lol. Football or baseball, pick your poison, lol.

bah-zing!

TROOF!

I actually like the clUcks slur now.

Bok Bok.

Remember when the moron gator fans bought 75 dollar seats in the upper deck because that was where we placed them?

And then the others that bought season tickets to the Canes, just to see the first of their many losses for the year, giving Miami thousands of dollars in the process?

And then this one gator that posts here paid a scalper with 500 dollars and his prized timmy teblow jersey for a seat in the 400s, only to get ripped off when he was sold a photocopy of a ticket?

Yep.

And that is what we live for, the one time every 2 years a real football team with real fans comes to play in our empty stadium. Then we can scalp the tickets, take advantage of real fans and weasel our way into some easy cash.
Don't understand why anyone would pay to watch their team play, at least here in Miami we don't care and won't pay.
That MLS stadium deal is bad for business we need Sun Life with it's usually empty 50k seats or more we can get lots of easy money every two years or so we get a good payday.
Rest of the time you can find us at any old mayor intersection with our home made little signs raking it in.
Life is good here in the 305.

"real fans?"

Quoi? Are your referring to the same Gatr Trash fans that were disguised as seats last year? How about the blow-out loss to Missy State the year before?

Hmmmm, just because you keep saying it, Gomer, doesn't make it true. But then again you are a dumb 'neck.

And even if allllllll you say is true, dumb 'billy, you still.....CANNOT....BEAT....THE......MIGHTY....MIAMI....HURRICANES.

8-1 over the last nine. That's nnnnniiiiinnnnneeeeee.

Just can't beat 'em, Gatr Trash. You try, but you caaaaaaan't do it.

Scoreboard, maggots.

BWWWHAAHAH.

"Life is good here in the 305."

It truly is. You know where it isn't? That steaming cesspool of Trailerville. A real garbage dump would be insulted if it were referred to as "Gainesville."

The state's center of ignorance, filth and meth trailers.

ESPN announced Tuesday there will be a sequel to its 2009 documentary on the University of Miami football program, ESPN’s fifth-highest rated documentary ever.

Yup.

Twice in the last week, UM coach Al Golden has given encouraging updates on the status of injured quarterback Ryan Williams.

Speaking to Hurricanes fans in Orlando last Friday, Golden indicated he was hopeful Williams could return at some point in September, though UM won't know for sure until later in the summer.

Golden also said the progress of Williams' recovery is in the top one percent for people with a torn ACL.

And in the past day, Golden --- speaking at the ACC meetings --- told ESPN.com that Williams' recovery is "phenomenal. We know he'll be back. it's just a question of how early because his recovery right now is phenomenal."

Yup

the stupid gator fans- or others- you all are so sad.

"empty stadiums"
"real fans"

Who the ( ) cares about your filled 90,000 seat SEC stadiums

Miami never had huge attendances even during the glory years of 80-95 and 2000-2005

Only had 60,000 plus when UF, FSU, ND or Oklahaoma came to town

Put 70 000 when U Washington came bc that was our revenge game on the way to Pasadena in 2001

So, you dumb rednecks (and all the other morons who blabber incessantly about Ums poor attendance)- Look it up- look up the attendance per game say, 1987, 1990, or 2000, dum sh7ts

Many of you are so wet nbehind the ear youall dont know the history behind this glorious football program

Yet youtalk like UM started its football program in 2006

Go canes. Give me 1 million Sunlifes stadiums to 1 swamp. any time. I can hear the hip hop already blasting rather than that redneck crp in ALachua county

Yeah you tell them, we canes never sell out any stadium. We don't care to see the teams play, maybe when they are winning big we will show up, like the Heat. We have always been front runners and proud of it.
And we leave early and are proud of it. Yeah we never stay for the end of any game. Especially if we are losing, then we leave en masse at the end of the 3rd period. Sometimes we try to get back in when we hear our team is coming back. But they don't let us in. Who cares.
Give me an empty, no atmosphere, sterile stadium like No Life any day. Makes it easier to leave early without the crowds.
That is what we are all about in the 305. Empty stadiums, only show up if the team is winning, leave early and always try to scam others for cash.

Yo Cane trash

Yo Welcome to Miami
I appreciate Ur irony and satire
Most dUmb clUcks here don't get it though
U know they B a little slow

Yo dUmb clUck brags about never selling out a venue
brags about always playing in empty stadiums
told U these chUmps R a bunch of dUmmies

Yo Mahoney clUck all wet cause Golden Retriever says Williams may be ready in September
What happened to all the other world beater QBs U have?
Don't trust any of them?
Ole Kevin hasn;t grown up yet?
Still hitting the keg?
As if Williams were Manning
Too funny
Yo maggot clUck
U wanna hear hip hop go to a club
U wanna see college football go to any college town
to experience game atmosphere
U don't know it if U R a MDCC reject that has never ventured north of Powerline Road
Like the typical cane clUck bandwagon fan

Bunch of pathetic LOOSERS!

That is what we are all about in the 305. Empty stadiums, only show up if the team is winning, leave early and always try to scam others for cash.

Yep exactly, oh and BEATING the Gators too. I mean lets not leave out that little tid bit of info, lol. Yep allllll that, and still more titles, more NFL'ers, and you just can't stand it, so you try and talk bad about a city as well, lol. I mean really, comparing Gainesville to Miami, SERIOUSLY????

If you are Gatr Trash, you will lose. As you have 8 out of the last 9.

So, while you focus on our empty stadium, we will focus on beating your arse, again, and again, and again, and the beauty that is the 305.

You can, after the beating, go back to that glorified trailerpark you call Gaaaaaainesville.

Thank you. See you next time, Gatr Trash.

bWWWHAHAHAHAAH.

You're a very sad person.

You always know a LOSER when they start talking about your stadium attendance, lol. I mean do they not realize how DUMB it makes them look, lol.

21-16

canetrash = welcome to miami.

we are supposed to believe he showed up the same minute that post was written, then wrote that last bunch of lies, all in under 13 minutes.

Nah, he wrote both and then by complimenting himself tries to act like there are two losers on here instead of just that one.

LMAO, Aaron Hernandez, honored gator, has two more bodies to explain away. gatortrash at it's finest.

This is the example set by Urban the liar:

Serial killer Aaron Hernandez.

Serial Killer gator trash piece of Alachua counjty garbage

A gator

Yes played with Teblow

UF= Aaron Hernandez. there you go

The gator legacy continues

Hey Urban, way to recruit a serial killer. No, not just an unfortunate young man, who killed someone through a rash immature decision, or a crime of passion, or drunkedness.

THis due is a Serial killer. Period. end of story.

And he's a gator. Wow!

How the almighty gators have fallen

Now an alumn who is no better than Charlie Manson.
