Morris extended through 2018, DiMare named coach in waiting

The University of Miami and head baseball coach Jim Morris on Tuesday agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension through the 2018 baseball season and named longtime assistant coach Gino DiMare the coach in waiting.

Morris, who has been at the helm of the Hurricanes program since November 1993, led Miami to its second ACC Regular Season Championship in program history this past spring.  Among the most successful head coaches in college baseball history, Morris has guided Miami to over 900 wins in his 21 seasons in Coral Gables.

"We are ecstatic that Coach Morris has agreed to remain at the helm through the 2018 season," said Director of Athletics Blake James.  "What Jim has built at Miami is unprecedented, and the success speaks for itself.  This extension is well earned."

DiMare is entering his 16th season as an assistant at Miami, following a stellar playing career at UM and a professional career with the Boston Red Sox organization.  DiMare has been instrumental in the Canes success, overseeing recruiting and serving as the hitting coach for many years.

"Gino possesses all of the ingredients of successful head coaches," James said. "I have no doubt that he will continue to bring conference and national championships to Coral Gables.  As Jim leads our program through 2018, we have a plan in place for a smooth transition and continued excellence, and I couldn't be happier that Gino will be our next head baseball coach."

"Coach Morris has been a tremendous leader for our baseball program for many years, and I will be honored to serve with him for another four," DiMare said. "I am profoundly humbled by the opportunity to take over such a storied program from a legend, and I am confident that we will continue the proud Miami baseball tradition."

Morris has led Miami to 21 straight appearances in the NCAA postseason and 11 trips to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. The Hurricanes’ college-baseball record 42 straight postseason appearances is the longest active streak for any Division I sports program nationwide.  Morris, who ranks fourth among active Division I coaches in career victories, has been named National Coach of the Year on three occasions. Including his time at Georgia Tech, Morris ranks eighth all-time in Division I victories.

"I am humbled and honored to continue to serve the University for four more years," Morris said.  "We have had an outstanding run but there is more work to be done and more championships to be won.  I want to thank President Shalala and Blake James for their belief in what we are doing and I am excited for Gino to get this opportunity."

For some time now, I've been wondering out loud how much longer Morris should stay around, so I welcome the news. This past season aside, we've been a very mediocre team for several years now. With all due respect to the head coach, I wish the change would come sooner, rather than three years from now.

Mediocre for the past 6 years with at least 4 more to come. Morris is exactly what the cane program has become. Living off past success while wallowing in mediocrity in the present and recent past. 6 years and running in baseball. 10 years and counting in football.
One fluke year in the life of the basketball program.
The sorry state of the U. The University of mediocre.
Book another 4 years of living in the past in baseball.

The above poster makes good points... wouldn't it suck to be a UF fan who lost to such a bad school in both football and baseball?

Good move to lock in DiMare. He deserves his shot.

We usually don't pay much attention to oral commitments for 17 months down the road, because kids can change their minds a hundred times before National Signing Day.

But UM snagged two significant 2016 oral commitments this week: Palmetto High's Jack Allison, considered one of the best quarterbacks in the 2016 class, and Oakleaf (Fla.) linebacker Shaquille Quarterman, who projects as a top-100 player in that year's class.

Allison --- who threw for 1600 yards, 16 TDs and 6 picks last season --- had numerous other offers, including Alabama and Missouri. Richardson had offers from UF, Georgia and Michigan, among others.

Meanwhile, UM added two oral commitments for the 2015 class on Tuesday: 6-foot-6 Pompano Beach Ely receiver Therrell Gosier, a three-star prospect who appeared in just two games before the playoffs last season because of a concussion; and no-star Ocala Trinity offensive tackle Geron Christian, whose only other listed offers (according to rivals.com) were from Arkansas, FAU, Eastern Carolina and Middle Tennessee State.

Gosier also is a standout basketball player at Ely.

6'5" 200lb 4.50/40

Love how they are building this class with local kids. This is awesome!

Miami landed their third commitment of the day on Tuesday when Pompano Beach Ely receiver Therrell Gosier gave his pledge to the Hurricanes.

Gossier (6-6, 200) chose Miami over West Virginia, Clemson, Kentucky, South Florida and Nebraska.

“I am officially committed to the University of Miami,” Gossier tweeted Tuesday evening.

Gossier is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports.com. He ranks as the No. 125 player in the state of Florida.

Gossier took an unofficial visit to Miami on Sunday. He is Miami’s 16th commit in the 2015 class and joins Emonee Spence as the wide receiver commits.

Gossier also plays basketball and finished his junior season averaging 11 points per game with ten rebounds per game.

"..latest commitment grew up a Hurricane fan dreaming of playing for the Canes."

2016 LB commit: `It's very solid'

-Shaquille Quaterman

Miami Gardens (FL) Carol City High School standout athlete and UM signee Trayone Gray was never a sure thing to qualify academically to report for this season. But he got some good news today.

[Mark] Walton says he has picked up the necessary credits to re-join his original graduating class, the class of 2015.

Walton has been committed to Miami since September of 2013. Now with his
reclassification, the Hurricanes are expecting him to be a part of their 2015 recruiting class.

Who was the sec#1 guy that said an 8-9 game was a blowout? What an idiot.....tonights game is closer to a blowout....just sayin'...

According to sec fans , didn't Virginia gift candy that game?

Ever notice how quickly a Gator fan becomes an "SEC" fan. SEC this and SEC that...Yes, but how did YOUR SEC team do?

MOrris should leave NOW. Blake is a dumbsht. :DiMare will continue to bring conference and nat championships..."??? really ???

When was our last NC?/ And if Gino is our hitting coach why is Miami so horrible on offense??? I mean- look at th CWS. Firest game both team put in 7-8 runs each. each! Second game UVA puts 7 on the board. You all think that Miami's "hitters" could put 7 runs on vandy or uva?? Not a chance.

Morris should have left 3 yrs ago. and I am a huge cane fan. I just hate the direction he has brough the program to . There has been ZERO progress in the last 5-10 yrs.

His regular excuse is that players go to the mlbs early. Sure, Jimbo, but that happenms w everyone not just Miami.

Blake: you serious?

Morris doesn't deserve 3 more years. I guess the expectations for UM sports, even baseball, have been dumbed down by this Administration. UM's baseball job could attract so many top flight coaches who would love to lead the Miami Program. UM should not have the struggles this baseball Program has suffered through recently. Morris should have been gone before this recent season even began. One good year out of 4 or 5 years should not buy 3 more years.

We usually don't pay much attention to oral commitments for 17 months down the road, because kids can change their minds a hundred times before National Signing Day.

But since we don't have anything else going on and have been pathetic for over a decade we have to report this as great news because we are starved for anything that is positive. Even though most of these kids will change their minds as they have done so many times before.

It was a "good" year, but barely. After winning the regular season ACC, this team and the coaches fell asleep, like after thanksgiving dinner, thinking they were all that and the hitting was pi55 poor, with stranded batters inevery single game. Regionals was a joke. With the gators and seminole eliminations, it was handed to us in a silver platter and the team choked thebig turkey gobbler (insert Morris' picture in here).

Posted by: ACC sucks and the canes can't compete

Uhhhh, Gomer? Ignorant 'neck? Check your dead blog. You got some 'necks spouting off about recruiting for the 2016 class.

Just so, you know, you are informed and consistent.

Anybody would take a horrendous injured 4-8 season over a FULL DECADE of being an irrelevant punching bag. ANYBODY!

Does Gatr Trash realize the UFilth has sucked for 3 out of the last 4 years? After this year, it will be 4 out of 5. And if the Canes are irrelevant, what does that say about all the teams it beat including the top 15 ranked UFilth Gatr Trash? bWWWHAHAHAHAHAH. That is why you have to cheer for SEC maggot. It's all you have left.

That last NC is getting really distant in the rear-view, ain't it 'neck?

ACC sucks? Gators went 0-2 against the ACC last year, and is afraid to play any other ACC teams in a home and home series.

Gators suck, and can't compete in the SEC, ACC, or Big 10. Heck, after the Georgia Southern Beatdown, they might have trouble winning the Sun Belt. LOL!

You lost to a team that shut down for 40 years, but you want to brag about your oral commits on HERE? You are a fool.

BTW, SINCE you want to compare signings, look at Rivals and how both teams are doing

#1 Alabama 19 2 13 4 3.89 2824
#2 Clemson 18 1 7 10 3.5 1988
#3 Texas A&M 18 0 10 6 3.53 1982
#4 South Carolina 19 0 10 8 3.47 1930
#5 Penn State 17 0 10 7 3.59 1846
#6 Auburn 17 1 10 6 3.71 1829
#7 Tennessee 18 0 7 9 3.28 1619
#8 Mississippi State 18 0 2 15 3.06 1437
#9 Notre Dame 14 0 6 8 3.43 1396
#10 Florida State 13 1 5 7 3.54 1373
#11 North Carolina 15 0 3 12 3.2 1340
#12 Georgia 12 1 5 6 3.58 1319
#13 LSU 12 2 2 6 3.33 1303
#14 USC 9 1 7 1 4 1199

#19 Arkansas 10 0 4 6 3.4 935
#20 West Virginia 13 0 3 8 3.17 922

WHAT?!? 4-8 Florida is nowhere to be found? Must be hiding like Foley does from the Canes.

In fact, I hear the Gators are not even in the Top 30, let alone the Top 20.

I guess when you can't even get 10 recruits to commit, you are going to fall that far.

All hype, no hope, that is all the gator troll has left....

These EARLY morning verbals are bloody well Much Ado Bout' Nothing. hUh And the only time it matters is when said prep recruit bloody SIGNS a LOI. dUh

FWIW... y'all's Hurricanes have taken ANOTHER bumbling, fumbling TUMBLE in the latest ESPN team rankings. Ouch. Goldie's Miami team is now NO. 14 in the Top 25 class rankings.

And dig this y'all Goldie nd' Marky Mark loyalists. SCOUT ranks Miami at NO. 18 in it's latest college football team rankings. Ouch!

Yeah, yeah it's still too early to interpret what type of incoming HS class Miami will have next spring. Nonetheless, the Hurricanes absolutely better sign more than a TWO/Three FIVE-STAR star's. Because these 3-Star signings are becoming BOGUS and whatnot.

Now, on the other Green nd' Orange hand. Coach Davis and his staff had the EYE for signing THREE-STAR prep players. And both Goldie nd' Marky Mark DON'T! If U Know What I Mean. hUh

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I understand Mr. Randy Shannon and the diminutive CON DUDE be to blame for Miami's questionable signing classes the past three seasons. dUh

Hey Devonaire,

Compare the careers of fellow 2010 Tight Ends Jimmy Graham and Aaron Hernandez. One rose in the ranks from obscurity to being a TOP NFL tight end. The other was full of hype and smoke, and in the end got hyped into smoking someone else.

Cesspool to prison, or paradise to the NFL? The choice is yours Devonaire.

Is it Labor Day evening, yet. hUh Get outta' here Weirdo!

Five minutes after giving an update on rankings, you say not to give an update on rankings? Strange gator style logic. must not like the facts thrown up there at his fellow gator troll.

Mac Jones has the nerve to call someone a weirdo? WOW! LMAO...

MackJones made a post about the Canes falling to 14th in the recruiting rankings right after being shown that his team isn't in the top 30. This guy is brilliant.

ACC sucks. Yes it does. It is a fact that everyone outside this delusional cane blog knows. About time you realized it too.
Ignorant cane (is there any other kind?) I am making fun of all you ladies bragging about the 2016 recruits, I do not want to "compare "rankings" as I know that is a stupid thing to do. I know and history has shown that you dumbutts get all excited a year or more ahead of NSD when you are "ranked" in a recruiting poll only to drop like a rock come NSD when two things happen. One, several of your commits drop out, and secondly the vast majority of 4 and 5 star kids wait til the end to commit and, of course, do not even consider you, but commit to other schools who promptly leap frog you in those rankings when it counts.
So, like it's been said before, go ahead and celebrate now, now that it doesn't mean a thing. Cause it's all you got. You got nothing else good going on so you must grasp at straws, grasp at "rankings" that mean squat.

That last NC is getting really distant in the rear-view, ain't it 'neck?

It really is distant, what was it? 2001? Don't remember, it's been over a decade now.
So what is you point dummy?

Morris is washed up, like the cane program in general.
Wait til 2019 for DiMare. At the very least you will get some good marinara sauce.

ACC guy...your team was beaten by 3 ACC teams last calender year and the ACC won the national title. If the Acc sucks so bad why do we keep beating the sec? What doesthat say about the sec? Sec is all money and paid refs. How many refs did they have suspended a few years ago for calling crooked games? I believe it was four. And that's the ones that made blatant bad calls or no calls. Imagine how many got away with it.....

I personally think it was funny auburn couldn't do anything with FSU once they figured out one of fsu's ex coaches was reading their play call. As soon as they started blocking the play calls with towels auburn had nothing on d for them. If it wasn't for that FSU would have won by 70. And auburn was the best y'all had.

So, like it's been said before, go ahead and celebrate now, now that it doesn't mean a thing. Cause it's all you got. You got nothing else good going on so you must grasp at straws, grasp at "rankings" that mean squat.

Posted by: ACC sucks and the canes can't compete

First off, nobody is bragging about 2016 recruits. It's cool the kid committed to the Canes and it's not like there is much other news to talk about during the offseason.
Second, if it's all we have now then what does that say about the guy who isn't a Canes fan who comes to comment on the story? What's it say about a guy who can't even bring up his team because they suck so bad and has to root for a whole conference? You won't answer this question.

Posted by: ACC sucks and the canes can't compete

Well, maggot, the way you spew garbage you would think you beat the Canes (BWAAHAHAA) or that you were Bama (you ain't). 6 years since your last title. 13 since the Canes. So what? In the game that mattered, the Canes beat Gatr Trash. Owned them. Exposed the fraud that is UFilth.

You can thank me for your education later, Gatr TRash. It's the only kind you will have ever received.

That last NC is getting really distant in the rear-view, ain't it 'neck?

Umm, no, the last NC in football for the ACC was.... OH YEAH the last NC that was possible.

And ignorant trailer trash calling sophisticated city folks 'necks is beyond your usual level of stupidity. And that is saying something considering your usual level of drivel.

"Ignorant cane (is there any other kind?) I am making fun of all you ladies bragging about the 2016 recruits,"

Funny how you didn't complain about the following post:

Posted by: SEC - GATORS #1 !!! | June 20, 2014 at 12:29 AM

Yep, at 12:30 in the morning, you were on here bragging about a gator 2016 recruit. Or are you saying it was SOME OTHER lady that did that? you really are dumb, you didn't know the ACC win the last NC, didn't know the Canes beat the gators in football and baseball (gators are now chickening out of baseball soon to match football and basketball), and didn't know that Aaron Hernandez is an accused murderer.

Now you know, so you can leave, loser.

You hear that, 'billy?

On Monday night the Miami Hurricanes got a commitment from 2016 4-star quarterback Jack Allison, and on Tuesday morning the 2016 momentum continued for Al Golden and the Hurricanes. According to a report by 247Sports’ Kipp Adams, Top247 linebacker Shaq Quarterman added his name to the 2016 commitment list too.

Quarterman isn’t just a Top247 linebacker, he’s one of the best at his position in the entire country. He is the No. 2-ranked inside linebacker according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He also in the No. 9-ranked player in Florida and currently is the No. 83-ranked player in the nation by the 247Sports composite rankings.

He announced his commitment via Twitter, with a simple statement of “I verbally committed to The University of Miami this morning.”

The Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf prospect is the third overall commitment for the Hurricanes in the 2016 class, and the most highly rated recruit in the fold to date. He is also the second inside linebacker to join the class of 2016, with currently unranked Michael Pickney of Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines being the first overall commit to ‘the U.’

With Quarterman’s commitment, the Hurricanes moved up from No. 13 to No. 5 in the national team rankings and from No. 3 to No. 1 in the ACC rankings.

Yep #5 nationally, yet the gator crybaby says we should not look at rankings. Funny how when they were ranked ahead of us (for about a WEEK), it was suddenly okay to look at the rankings.

LMAO at the crybaby gator jlo/piggy/gatorscan'tcompetewithoutagun.

Florida tight end Colin Thompson is transferring after two injury-filled seasons.

The 6-foot-4, 256-pound sophomore from Warminster, Pennsylvania, was one of the top tight end recruits in 2012. But he played in just three games over two years with the Gators, missing time with foot injuries.

Florida sports information director Steve McClain says "we granted permission for schools to contact Colin. The SEC approved a medical exemption for him in May, and we will share that information with the other institutions."

Thompson reportedly visited Penn State on Thursday.

Thompson is the second tight end to leave Florida since last season. Sophomore Kent Taylor transferred to Kansas in December.

LOL! Devonaire, see how the Tight Ends at OOF are reacting to that OOFense? Do you want to be listed with Aaron Hernandez, or with Kellen Winslow and Jimmy Graham?

Must get tiring when at every media event, these guys would reach out and say "Hi, I am a tight end at the university of florida" and the response was "DUCK!".

Meanwhile, Jimmy Graham shows his Pro Bowl stats and 41 NFL TDs and teams are willing to write a big check to steal him from the Saints or for the Saints to keep him. I don't recall Aaron Hernandez getting any offers recently outside of the shower.

"ACC guy...your team was beaten by 3 ACC teams last calender year and the ACC won the national title. If the Acc sucks so bad why do we keep beating the sec?"

Everybody beat my team last year. I know that was the highlight of your season and it got you ranked albeit for a few weeks but it was no big accomplishment. Again you have to hang on to meaningless things like beating a 4 - 8 injury plagued team cause you got nothing else.

Secondly, FSU won the NC not the ACC. When you have 4 or more different teams from your conference win NCs for more than 6 years in a row then you could say the ACC wins, not now. Not even close.

Thirdly, the ACC does not "keep beating" the SEC.
Georgia routinely beats GaTech, So Carolina routinely beats Clemson. Vandy routinely beats Wake and even UF beat FSU year before last.

Like I said before, you got nothing.

"First off, nobody is bragging about 2016 recruits."

Right, see: Posted by: don't spill the drink, don't drop the soap, Aaron Hernandez is coming to town

"I personally think it was funny auburn couldn't do anything with FSU once they figured out one of fsu's ex coaches was reading their play cal"

Right, he only team that gave FSU a scare and a game and lost at the very last second due to a Winston Heisman drive. Shows how ignorant you are.

"And ignorant trailer trash calling sophisticated city folks 'necks is beyond your usual level of stupidity."

No, it is you who re stupid and lack reading comprehension since that was a quote from one of your fellow dumb canes.
In addition the reference was about individual schools UF vs UM, not about conferences.
The fact that this must be explained to you validates my point that you are a bunch of ignorant numbbutts.

"Yep, at 12:30 in the morning, you were on here bragging about a gator 2016 recruit. Or are you saying it was SOME OTHER lady that did that?"

Confused about who is who? Using too many different IDs perhaps you lose track?
My posts are clear and intelligent do not attribute someone else posts to me dummy.
Maybe if you can buy some brains and reading comprehension you would be able to tell who is who.

Why are cane posters so dumb?

Gators are our little sisters and can't hang with the ACCwe beat her when she didn't have injuries....Louisville beat her overrated 11-1 team and FSU could have beaten her blindfolded. But yet here they are spewing nonsense as if they beat somebody .

Jack Allison in 2016

DiMare in 2019

We will be back then, you hear.

"Secondly, FSU won the NC not the ACC. When you have 4 or more different teams from your conference win NCs for more than 6 years in a row then you could say the ACC wins, not now. Not even close

BWWWAHAHAAHHA. Look at this dumb Gatr Trash grad now "qualifying" when you can cheer for your conference.

Hey, 'neck, check out replays of the 90's SEC Championship games and watch all the SEC chants and posters. You are a moron beyond belief.

"beating a 4 - 8 injury plagued team."

Ummm, maggot? But for a scrub or two, your trash team was full strength. The injuries came after. But you keep trying to white-wash it. It's what ignorant maggots from Trailerville do.

"So Carolina routinely beats Clemson"

Ummm, Gomer. Sorry to keep throwing eggs on your trailer but, man, you are some kind of stooooopid. In the 22 games played since 1992, Clemson has won 12 of them. Yep, 12, as in, the majority. So, you live in your delusional world of trailers, meth, and public diploma mills. We will live in reality of the Cane domination of Gatr Trash.

"Vandy routinely beats Wake"

I'm going to give it to you again because you are ignorant trailertrash. The last 6 times Vandy and Wake have played, they split 3-3. Routinely beat?

Someone needs some skoolin'. That dump skwwwl in Trailerville is failing it students. AS a Florida taxpayer, I want my money back and

SHUT THAT DUMP DOWN. You are dismissed Gomer. Go put your Timmy Teblow jersey on.

ACC sucks guy....ROTFLMAO.....we beat your team down before all the injuries with your suspended players being allowed to play. Now Georgia southern beat your injury plagued team but fact is ....THEY HAD MORE INJURIES and 20 less scholarship players and still ran the ball down your throats.

Posted by: ACC sucks and the canes can't compete

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This UFilth grad may be the dumbest person in this mostly white-trash state. What diner or fast food restaurant would hire this moron?

He didn't answer my question. He says it's pathetic that we have articles about 2016 recruits. He says it's all Cane fans have. What does it mean for the Gator fan that has nothing else to comment on the article that he says is pathetic for Cane fans to post on?

Claude George

Latest commit. Nice weak side OLB. Athletic kid that runs well and displays solid tackling skills.
