Canes' Coley, Johnson named to Maxwell Award watch list; Perryman to Bednarik watch list

Stacy Coley and Duke Johnson were named to the 2014 Maxwell Award Watch List on Monday, an award presented annually to the College Player of the Year since 1937.

Linebacker Denzel Perryman, meanwhile, has been named to the 2014 Bednarik Award Watch List, presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year annually since 1995.

Dan Morgan is the only Hurricane (2000) to win the Bednarik Award. Vinny Testaverde (1986), Gino Torretta (1992) and Ken Dorsey (2001) are previous Maxwell Award winners for Miami.

A 2013 All-ACC First Team selection, Perryman started all 13 games at outside linebacker for the Hurricanes, registering a team-leading 108 total tackles including 69 solo stops. In addition to earning All-America honorable mention honors from SI.com, Perryman was the recipient of the Hurricanes 2013 Hard Hitter Award and Defensive MVP award.

A second-team All-ACC performer in 2013, Johnson rushed for 920 yards and six TDs in eight games before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. Johnson enters his junior season with 1,867 career rushing yards in 20 games. Last month, he was named third-team Preseason All-America by Phil Steele and was one of 40 FBS running backs named to the 2014 CFPA Running Back Trophy Watch List.

Coley was also one of 47 players named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List on Monday, given annually since 2010 to college football's most versatile player.

As a freshman in 2013, Coley, a third-team All-ACC selection by the league’s coaches and honorable mention by the media, led the Hurricanes with 1,461 all-purpose yards – the 10th-highest single-season total in program history. He also led the team with seven receiving touchdowns while ranking second in receiving yards (591) and third in receptions (33). A Freshman All-America selection by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Coley was the only FBS player in 2013 to record a TD four different ways – rushing, receiving, punt return and kick return.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell and Bednarik Award will be announced November 3 and the three finalists will be unveiled November 24. The winner of the 2014 Maxwell and Bednarik Awards will be announced December 11 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.

The watch list candidates were chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's selection committee, which analyzes both past performance and future potential. The Club reserves the right to make additions and deletions to these lists as the 2014 season unfolds. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA sports information directors, FBS head coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for the awards.

Perryman and Coley are absolute studs that will produce in the Pros. Damn I can't wait for this season to start already!!!!

LETS GO CANES!!!!!

I pray to Almighty Buddha, that Goldie DOESN'T mess with WR Stacey's game and Stacey DOESN'T regress this season! In other words, akin to what happened to the kid Chickillo! Ouch.

Nevertheless, a Buddha-istic congratulations to the Hurricane troika on being named on some prestigious award lists. hUh

Well, well, my, my... look here. Like myself, Athlon magazine TOUTED Miami as a Sun Bowl participant. The sagacious Athlon magazine SEE-r's the Hurricanes facing mighty Washington in El Paso. dUh

And another college pigskin magazine predicts the Canes in the Sun Bowl.

FWIW... I SEE-r Goldie nd' Marky Mark's squad facing mighty Oregon St. in a FOURTH-TIER Sun bowl encounter. Ouch.

Oh, Goldie's team absolutely DOESN'T want to play either Washington or Oregon St. Simply because both PAC-12 squads have HIGH OCTANE scoring offenses! Ouch again, bUbba's.

And just to prove I'm not all Orange nd' Green NEGATIVE on y'all's BELOVED Goldie nd' Marky Mark.

Sporting News college football says that Miami has the THIRD most difficult non-conference schedule in the ACC.

1. FSU
2. Clemson
3. Hurricanes

^^^^^^^^^^

Every blog needs an illiterate moron and, on this blog, TMJ is it.

FWIW... both that Go BIGot REDneck squad and Cincinnati were scheduled during the tail end of Randy Shannon's coaching tenure. hUh Yet, mighty Arkansas St. and the I-AA school was all Goldie's doing and whatnot. Go bloody figures'. hUh

So, this blog has good news. The gator troll will then complain that anyone are responding to the good news is "delusional". Hey moron, we are reading and responding to words in black and white, not the false internal ramblings of the Drisko for Heisman folks on your blog. BIG difference, loser.

Whatever, REDNECK good ol' boy!

Now, SNAKE your way back to that FOOL'S DEN aka canespace!!

Posted by: Skrate dope | July 07, 2014 at 02:34 PM

I see that my DISRESPECTING on y'all's BELOVED Goldie nd' Marky Mark has you SEEING red, redneck. Too bad!!!

Third best OOC schedule in the conference.

Wow!

Can we just stick with watch lists please.

Some blind homer named Mahoney-Pearson is taking quotes from my posts and linking them to his website, making excuses about UM's depth, the loss of Duke Johnson last year at FSU and expounding on the virtues of Golden and how he's "building a monster at UM". Calling the skeptics posts "Nonsense" covering Golden's back as if he were the Coaches' wife.
I recall Dallas Crawford doing very well as the backup RB. Crawford rushed for 558 yards on 137 carries with a team-leading 12 rushing TDs ... Also had 171 yards on 20 catches along with 1 receiving TD. You do the math. Mahoney-Pearson makes no mention of the teriffic defense we played last year. Does anyone remember our top 50 defense? I'm sorry! you mean it was worse than that? Mahoney-Pearson likes to avoid the facts, hates opposing views, and wants to know what did fans expect last season? A National Championship?
I expected better than the final results. I am a lifelong, loyal supporter of UM with my wallet and anyone who comes here and says UM lived up to expectations last year and they were satisfied at season's end with the finished product--needs their head examined!
You want to cut Coach some slack? Fine!
You want to give D'Onofrio another shot? Fine!
You want to point to recruiting for 2015? Fine!
To some fans, the light you see at the end of the tunnel--is likely the light of an oncoming Train!

Well, at least Sporting News see's the Hurricane non-conference a bloody STEP-UP or two, from last season's LAME ARSE schedule. dUh.

Calling you out for the illiterate buffoon you are does not make me a redneck. You are a clown. Get yourself sum edumucayshun first, then post.

Mahoney-Pearson likes to avoid the facts, hates opposing views, and wants to know what did fans expect last season? A National Championship?
############

That's because he's one of the Canespace CLOWNS and what not. smh/LOL

Chit, even those canespace fools and goons be touting either a 11-1 or 10-2 regular season in 2014. Go bloody figures'.

What a FOOL believes, redneck.

1. Duke Johnson, RB, Miami

" The caveat here is if he's healthy, he's the best. And of players with at least 300 career rushes and receptions entering this season, no one in the country has more yards per touch than Johnson. The junior running back is dynamic, explosive -- put simply, a game-changer for Miami. "

" Through eight games last year, Johnson logged 920 yards (6.3 per carry) and six touchdowns on 145 attempts before his season was cut short when he broke his ankle against Florida State. Miami was 7-0 with Johnson ... and 2-4 without him. If he can stay on the field this year, the offense will likely revolve around Johnson completely, and he's going to be a huge help to a new Miami quarterback (whoever that ends up being). " Foxsports.com

Mahoney Pearson is Ron Zook, Go Canes, Sergeant Shultz I know nothing, amongst many others.

Completely delusional moron that works good the SID.

Not belief, illiterate ignoramus. Your every post proves my point. You are soaked to the bone with stupid.

You steal the ID of OGV, claim that a Canes fan posting positives on here is three other guys from three other blogs, but we are supposed to think you are the real OGV? God, what an obsessed loser you are, "ACC sucks but my ID can't stay the same".

OGV, has SOUP banned U completely yet? He hates your itch to tell the truth.

Rabblerouser, what is Mahoney-Pearson's website?

you have complained about what is written in canesport, canespace, and other canes blogs, but you claim you are not obsessed with the canes. If I read gator fan blogs the way you read Canes fan blogs, I bet you would call me obsessed, right? you have no reason to be on this blog, but yet here you are, day after day, year after year, even after the canes beat your teams, you write an "apology" and then CLAIM you are gone, but then the next week, you are back with more of the same attacks.

you really need to get a life, when you are remembering IDs from dead blogs from five years ago as your reasoning for being on a different blog five years later.

BTW, that is directed at fake OGV, not HTC.

30 for 30 is on ESPN.....AGAIIN! Still waiting on macks teams 30 for 30 short. Ordered a copy for my mancave a couple days ago. Gonna be watching it before the kickoff this season. Coley and Duke are gonna light it up this year. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the gators criminal calendar? Would look good on my "Wall of fshame" next to bosworth crying.

Is ESPN buying UM stock again? They've Benn showing "The U" a lot lately.

Congrats guys. Go out and win those awards and make this team a big winner!

GO CANES!

"
"

The claim by the gator troll that we sign a ton of two stars is wrong. We have 18 commits, and only ONE of them is a two star. A 6-4 305 pound offensive tackle stolen from the supposed Gator territory of Ocala. Geron Christian is better than any commits for offensive tackle the gators got.

Oh, and we have three four star players, the gators only have two. Perhaps that is why when I look at the list of rankings, I see Miami at 11, FSU at 13, and no other team from the State of Florida in the top 35. UF for example is not even in the top 10 in their conference, so why are they ragging us about where we stand in recruiting when we are percentage points away from second in the ACC. With the NCAA about to drop the hammer on UNC, we should move ahead of them as well.

http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/teamrank/2015/all/all

Poor gator liar, the gators are NOT recruiting better than Miami, and we were NOT punished for catching that cheater joker phillips. BTW, I hear that even with that cheat, the guy he was dining with is not going to pick the gators. Double loss for the gators.

21-16

If thats the case, that money could've been better utilized at Mahoney-Pearson correct?

On who? Nobody wanted this job. The proof will be in the pudding. We'll see what's good this season. How is a coach gonna prevent those turnovers at Duke or against Tech? or tackle? Players gotta play.

""The fans outside, they see the players messing up so they are automatically going to blame it on the defensive coordinator," he said. "Because sometimes in football as a fan, they don't really know football. So when they see guys being cut loose they think `Oh, it's the defensive coordinator's fault.' Really it's the execution from the players. I think we have to do a better job of having his back in the games. Outside people, they don't really know what's going on, don't know football to be honest."

"I feel like coach D'Onofrio calls great games. It's up to the players to execute."

You all don't understand the game..

If you don't think losing Duke made our team weaker, then you don't understand the game.

S. Taylor, Ed Reed, Frank Gore, Jimmy Grahm? Ballers. Coaching wasn't a factor. We need more of those caliber players across the board...and they're coming.

"The fans outside.."

yup. we know who you are...Now announce yourself by responding to my posts.

No better proof that coaching natters than the NC loss to Ohio State in 2002.

How did that all-star team--unanimously ranked one of the greatest ever assembled--lose that game?

The quotes of a 19 year old sophomore football player is the end all begin all football authority?? The same one who had the exact opposite to say about the defense (off print) the prior year. Made available for the first and only time ever following back to back blowout losses in which the defense looked horrible and D'No needed a credible extinguisher. No one better for the job than a defensive player and his rumored harshest critic Howard.

U have nothing…ever…but staged interview quotes and Raising Canes commercials. Propaganda enthusiast.

What fan isn't on the "outside"??

That wasn't deep, that was Howard falling on a sword just like U do here every time U post. Keep explaining circumstances and lowering expectations instead of winning anything significant.

U know nothing Jon Snow lol!

"No better proof that coaching natters than the NC loss to Ohio State in 2002."

Nah. Maurice Clarett beasting and losing Willis. Nothing to do with coaching there, man. Just good ole fashion but kicking. Plus, if that call goes the right way in the endzone and you have to find another example.

So you tell me the coaching was good enough to get them there but not to win? Come again.

^^^^

Just more proof you don't understand the game.

The quotes of a 19 year old sophomore football player is the end all begin all football authority??

"$h!t, truth spoke - I gotta give the world true quotes; can you feel it? I know it hurts."

Benie said it best.

Do U agree that it was an all-star team?

How was Maurice Clarett able to beast all that talent? With all that talent, how could the game possibly come down to one late call.

Talent-wise (which is the only determinant in your opinion and posts) why was OSU even in the game?

Can U get any better than that group of talent? U just used those players as the prototype for our future winning chances. Well when Golden recruits the 2001-2002 teams again (as U claim he is currently doing), what if the opposing teams recruit a beast RB on par with Maurice Clarett? What if there's an injury to one of our 30 beast players? Do we just lose again?

I don't understand the game, but U believe that coaching doesn't affect football outcomes, outside of recruiting LOL! How much did U pay for your education again?
Well Common sense and reality is free of charge. U lost….again.

Mahoney-Baloney.
I got two words for you.
"No excuses!"
A true Canes fan does not take kindly losses to Duke, Virginia, or Maryland. Those games are a part of the "automatic win" pack.
Duke Johnson or another valuable asset like QB Ryan Williams can easily fall victim to injury at anytime. To come in here with that as your reason for not producing--will not cut it! Mahoney-Baloney you sound like the dog ate your homework. Golden and his staff can get it together or we can read about and watch highlights of FSU all year on Sportscenter.

Playing time spoke and he has had that black jersey ever since. The unquestioned starter now. What was he supposed to do? Tell the truth? Truth-telling aint exactly being modeled at Coral Gables just see Golden's weekend with PSU and your own posted comments in reaction LOL!

Raising Opportunists.

We aren't the only team thats recruiting good. Some other schools are actually recruiting 5 and 4 star talent.

So what will be the difference when we face them Mahoney?

What player from that OSU NC team has made a Pro Bowl in the NFL? What OSU player from that team is even in the NFL currently? How were they able to compete and win vs. one of the best teams ever. One untimely injury, Clarett running for 47 yards on 23 carries and a late flag doesn't beat that team.

M. Clarett broke our backs in crucial situations. If you watched that game you know that. I still remember that >10yrs later.

There is no way in the world that Stacey C. and Duke shouldn't have break away years on the field. They are instant All-Americans in my book.

The OC has to tailor the O around both of these guys and than somebody has to emerge as the secret and dependable weapon. That "weapon" must come from the TE position. That's what is missing from this O and from the O under the 'Goldy years.

The OL should be fine. we know the O can score because they have to under this DC. I say put up 40-plus on everybody and take names later. They may have to against Petrino as Petrino is one of the best offensive minds in the game.

We aren't the only team thats recruiting good. Some other schools are actually recruiting 5 and 4 star talent.

So what will be the difference when we face them Mahoney?

Posted by: HarrietTubmanCane | July 07, 2014 at 06:53 PM

The stars don't matter that much, especially this early in the game. You have to project people you recruit for how they will play in your system.

A better barometer is who we are beating out for these kids, or the fact that 4 top-flight RBs may be committed at the same time; RBs all recruited by the likes of Alabama.

How it all comes together is to be determined but under all the circumstances it couldn't be better.

Depth and competition is what made []_[] tough and we're slowing building that again.

"automatic win"

More lack of football understanding ^^^^^

"The fans outside.." speak again. I'l give some Herm this time..

"It's why you play the game"

"No excuses!"

????

""The fans outside, they see the players messing up so they are automatically going to blame it on the defensive coordinator," he said. "Because sometimes in football as a fan, they don't really know football. So when they see guys being cut loose they think `Oh, it's the defensive coordinator's fault.' Really it's the execution from the players. I think we have to do a better job of having his back in the games. Outside people, they don't really know what's going on, don't know football to be honest."

"I feel like coach D'Onofrio calls great games. It's up to the players to execute."

The above is the perfect example of no excuses, and the primary reason there is hope for this squad. Me? I'm a fan. I have no reason to make excuses. Just call it like I see it.

"How much did U pay for your education again? "

U looooove my ed[]_[]cation.

dumba55es

The Ohio State defense was huggely underrated. Thast said- Randy Shannon lostthat game- How the --- do you allow a 4th and 14 completion with Vince Wilfork and others on that line? Ill tell you how- By rushing 2 and giving The QB all the time in the world tomake that throw--

By the way idiot HTC-

The 2001 team was the best all time not the 2002

Add Clinton Portis to that squad- and many others- There was no one better and there will never be

For once can some of you jump in here and post some "football talk" as to what Golden has improved in his time here? Are the linebackers covering better? are the cornerbacks tackling better? are the defensive lineman getting push? Are the quarterbacks making better decisions?

I rarely if ever hear that type of conversation on this board. It's either, you're a gator fan, you're a hater, the NCAA, the past administration, building relationships, great face for the program, speaks well in front of a camera etc......,

I just want to know when are we going to cover the flats? When will we stop allowing the worst qb's in college have their career games against us? When are we going to get more TFL's and put the offense in 2nd and 14 for a chance? Will our defensive tackles be allowed to play in the other teams back field? Is it the norm to come to this board after games and brag " at least we didn't give up 500 yards?"

"Mahoney-Baloney."

Did you just write that, for real?

I've come to not expect much from this forum but, my word, I can't believe you actually put that to type.

I gotta be honest my-man, i'm dumbfounded by that.
