Canes net two huge commitments from St. Thomas Aquinas

The Miami Hurricanes netted a pair big recruiting commitments Tuesday night from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale.

The first was Jordan Scarlett, a 5-11, 210-pound running back in the Class of 2015 ranked by 247Sports.com as the 11th best at his position nationally.

The other was Sam Bruce, a 5-8, 160-pound receiver in the Class of 2016 ranked by 247Sports.com as the 7th best at his position nationally.

Our Safid Deen has more on Tuesday's big Hurricanes recruiting story on our High School Sports Blog

Huge

Talent keeps committing to the University of Miami.

Honestly this does make me feel a little bit better now after the BS that we all learned about earlier.

LETS GO CANES!!!!!

Bring on them rings.

LETS GO CANES!!!!!

This is phenomenal, but bittersweet on the heels of today's dissapointing news. I'm beside myself over the recent turn of events in Coral Gables and pray for everyone involved.

Lame lb corp mack? One has never started and the other underachieved.

Posted by: alchol is the gateway drug | July 08, 2014 at 04:04 PM

yeah but they played many meaningful minutes between them last year and were counted on playing high minutes this year with absolutely zero meaningful minutes played by the backup depth behind them. zero reps.

This this is an onion waiting to unpeal badly. Did they confess? Someone wrote that the Police, in their report said they did. Were they read their rights? Did they understand those rights? Where did the drugs come from ? Has this happened before in the dorms ? Don't think for one second, now that Lawyers are involved, they won't recant their "stories" and file that their original confessions will be stricken because a lawyer WAS NOT PRESENT. Rest assure, in a town like Miami and ESPN licking their chops, this is going to Court. I hope not and even more so, if these dumbaasses and UM get some counter BAD press from ESPN... the likes of Al Sharpton n Co. will scream from the mountaintops, "Ohhhh, the girl 'could" have set them up. These were good boys. Kids that went to Church... Let the process play out and the Courts decide"

And that girl will have to take the stand all because 2 animals on whatever they were on and why behaved like animals.

Glad UM reacted they way they did as well because it's reported that they "confessed" ? But what else were they going to do ? Stay tuned Canes. More coming.

Scarlett is an Alabama type Beast Back. Good 2015 Class and nice 2016 forming. It's July '14. Let's see what happens Feb '15 n '16.

We need live mean Roosters, not unfertile eggs.

Why bring up 2016 recruiting class when most of these kids will switch before next year is over. I have a feeling that Dexter Williams is getting ready to switch. These young kids are always shaky in these early commitments. Heck, Jordan Scarlett may change his mind again before it is all said and done.

When Alabama, Florida St., or Ohio St. calls, many of these kids go there because they want to be around the hype, large crowds, and winning teams for bragging rights even though they may not see the football field anytime soon. Take Jacques Patrick, I know personally he is not going to Miami. He has always had his eyes on Florida St. even though the talent is deep at RBs. He has a better chance of seeing the field earlier at Miami, but no-one can tell them much about which school is the best fit for them.

Winning will solve a lot of problems and the "U" must win 11 games this year to get national attention or they will not be able to compete with the SEC, USC, Stanford, Oregon, Clemson, and Florida St. of college football due to their ability to recruit top talent out of Miami. If you have talent and cannot coach by make adjustments, then what is the use of blaming the talent you recruited?

No more blaming the players for what they did not do. The coaches must take ownership for them not performing. This is why you get paid millions for teaching these kids how to become winners and not making excuses as to why they did not win. Make out a battle plan and get the guys in there who can carry it out to perfection.

No more excuses this year for the OC and DC given they have enough guys if they know how to coach them should win 11 or more games this year 2014. Louisville will be a measuring stick for Al Golden coaching staff to see if we have coaches who know how to coach football (X's and O's). On offense, Miami have enough 300 lbs. linemen to knock over my F-150 truck. If you cannot figure out how to get these guys motivated, heck, put me on the pay roll. I got 40 years of watching college and pro-football to where I can predict certain plays a team is going to run. I'm an engineer for goodness sake. As my professor would say, do the math.

If Jimmie Johnson had this talent, I know we will be looking at a National Championship Team. Let’s see what Al Golden can do this year and no more excuses as to why Miami lost the football game. Boise St. and Kansas State do not recruit as many top recruits per year as Miami get each year but they know how to coach them up with the talent they do have and are consider some of the best coaches in college football today.

CHAMPIONS DO NOT MAKE EXCUSES...THEY MAKE ADJUSTMENTS AND WIN!! Yes, I said it, Mike P. from Orlando. You can buy my book later or pay me royalties if you want to use it. GO, CANES!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

11 or B[]_[]ST !

We do have the talent. No more excuses as to why this team is not a contender for the conference championship.

Posted by: Orlando - Cane '07 | July 08, 2014 at 11:22 PM

Another objective Miami Hurricanes' graduate wants to see these young men succeed, Al Golden.

F the conference championship

Miami needs to contend for he big prize. UM was never known for stupid "conference" championships. Theyplayed anyone anytime. Michigan at MIchigan, Cal, ND, Oklahoma, Ohio State, etc.

You go undefeated, you play for the ship. Only in recent yrs due to the ESPN blabber mouth talking heads has a oneloss SEC team been allowed to play for the ship against another SEC team that was disgusting and media driven. With the playoff hopefully that will never happen again but I doubt it.

Chris Fowler and his minions are a bunch of pu55ie a55es

Great commits- UM now has about 20 commitments yet ESPN rankings havethem below Texas (10) and others incredibly.

Scarlett is an underrated 4 star.

These are great gets but nothing in the ESPN recruiting blogs.....

Great article to balance the recentbad news about the two UM idiots.

THIS IS THE TYPE OF JOURNALISM WE NEED TO HEAR ABOUT. FUNNY HOW FAT BOY MANNY NAVARRO DIDNT POST THE NEWS- HES TOO WORRIED ABOUT KEEPING HIS JOB ATT THE HERALD SO HE HAS TO GO POST ONLY THEBAD THINGS UM PLAYERS DO

Hey holmie:

Posted by Manny Navarro at 09:42 PM

You need to check your facts before you post.

Holmie these kids have yet to play their senior yr, so their rankings can certainly go up. I mean the wr is stated as the 7th best at his position in the nation, I'd say that's pretty damn good. Too early to even think about rankings. We have 2014 to worry about, a new qb, and (hopefully) a better D.

It's nice to get more S Fla boys. Hopefully they stay loyal, as it's waaaaay too early.

Yay, mo souf FloRIda boyz! B.S. FIND FOOTBALL PLAYERS - NOT BOYZ

Why does Al Golden get anywhere near kids that would commit rape against. Minor? He had no idea that these guys are despicable savages? Don't believe that. Al golden should be fired immediately and my sources tell me that big shakeups are in the works in the football program. Al Golden is a liar.

Oh that is nothing but a bunch of b.s. Al Golden or any other coach for that matter can only go on what he see's from the young men he recruits. How the hell was he suppose to know that these two would do something so stupid. It isn't like that is something a coach asks or inquires about a player when he is visiting them in their homes. I can see a coach going in and saying this is our plan for you at Linebacker and oh by the way in two or three years do you see yourself getting a girl drunk and doping her up so you and your friends can pull a train on her. If you think that happens or a coach does that then you are way too stupid to be talking about football. This happens at every college all over America. These two dumbarses were too stupid not to take the cheese and they got busted. They are not very street bright either to have admitted anything without legal counsel. On the other hand as a man I am proud they owned up to it and the University took the steps they did.

What a ridiculous post. Your sources?? Yeah we hear you man.

ESPN ratings aren't updated automatically, if you fancy ESPN rankings check them in a week or so. In Rivals, we moved from 11th to 9th. Al likes Miami, the University, but my sources say Al can't take the South Florida heat, if you catch my drift

abc had this huge segment about these two on Good Morning America of all places, and had the face of the U and the brand plastered all over the segment. Their faces hugely put on the screen. They said Miami about a billion times. Thats the media (ESPN-abc in cahoots) hatred about all things Miami. F all of them- They didnt do this for the Jameis Winston case. And believe me there were plenty of rape cases around campuses in the last 3 yrs involving studnet athletes- but they had to single out the U- forthermore those f--kers also mentioned Miami's "ten" other incidents with student athletes in the last 2-3 yrs

ABC: HOW ABOUT INJECTING SOMEBALANCE INTO YOUR PSEUDOJOURNALISM, YOUR GARBAGE JOURNALISM AND MENTION THE 30 PLUS RRESTS UNDER LILLY WHITE URBANMEYER? DID YOU PLASTER THAT STORY AS IT WAS UNFOLDING FOR 5 YEARS? NOOOOOO.

MIAMI HANDLED THIS BEAUTIFULLY. UNLIKE FS-WHO. JAMEIS WINSTON CLEARLY RAPED A GIRL AS WELL AND THE WITNESSES (I.E. HIS TEAMMATES WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE ASSAULT) OF COURSE WOULD NOT RAT- THE POLICE DEPT IN THAT JOKE OF A KANGAROO COURT OF TALLAHASSEE CLEARLY LET IT GO.
AND SQUINTY CLEARLY WASNT MAN ENOUGH TO ADMIT IT

This is good news after yesterdays tragic events. Fig was going to be a starter and a baller. What a compltete freaken moron. Good commits for the "U". But as it has been the case over the last 5-7 years, if the "U" gets crushed by Louisville, Nebraska and FSU on national television many of those recruits will end up at other programs. Winning the ACC Coastal and playing well in a bowl game is crucial. But with no QB and little to no depth at LB that task will be very tough. Go Canes.

5-8/160 lbs. I sure hope he grows up one day. I know what speed and good hands can do, but that's with elite QBs who can thread the ball. With a 5-8 frame, you can throw the deep stuff all day, but anything underneath has to be exactly on the money or he has to be W I D E open. A guy like Dorsey knew where to put the ball. Just look at what happened to Roscoe Parrish with weaker QB play.

I understand that football locker rooms are places where young men become extremely excited but you HAVE to know where and when to use that.

That said, I'm not sure what the culture is in the UM locker room but it's obvious tha there are huge problems. My kid is a Junior and getting long looks from D-1's. No way in hell I'll let him even sniff UM. Current team members drugging and raping a minor????? No way.

what we must do is win 10 games and look good on D and then it is all over...Al will build a wall around the State of South Florida...

Miami Hurricanes, you are psychotic if you think there is a perfect institution to send your kid. If you are that stupid, I have some land to sell you in the Georgia swamps.

There is no place on this earth, where this kind of stuff does not go on (High School, College, Doctor’s Offices, Churches, White House, etc.). Google and you may see someone you know. I am willing to bet it is happening in your backyard and you are too blind to notice. Wakeup or at least open your eyes. Tell your kid to stay home with his mommy and watch TV. RETARD!

Posted by: Orlando - Cane '07 | July 08, 2014 at 11:22 PM

Good post!

No Orlando, you are unequivocally wrong. To suggest that there isn't any institution that doesn't have young men drugging and raping a minor is absurd. Great job calling me names though sir.
Again, my son will have no part of any UM recruiting as long as there is a culture that leads to teammates drugging and raping minor.

Miami Hurricanes?
What planet do you live on? 1 in 5 women are raped in college campuses all over the country. It's a major problem that Universities have been slow to deal with.
Good luck keeping those blinders on.

Posted by: Miami Hurricanes? | July 09, 2014 at 12:53 PM

U have the right to feel this way. Its your son and incidents like this do call to question safety, culture, oversight, and leadership. Its not anyone's fault but those two men, but coaches and university environments promise safety and the cultivation of young boys to men on recruiting visits. If it occurred anywhere else, we'd question these things, so it goes for us as well.

1in 5 women on college campuses are raped???? That is patently false. Where on earth did you come up with that?

Miami football camps are now paying off folks. The younger kids who are attending these camps are building relationships with the current staff. True enough Miami may lose some of their current commits but who care, all school will lose some commitments before signing day. The thing is if any person leave due to competition, well, you don't wont that kid on your roster anyway. Does Dexter Williams really believe he will be the only RB on an Ohio State roster?

So if FSU comes calling, what about their culture? How quickly they threw Winston's incident under the rug, or what about UF where they have arrests every other week it seems? I mean you may as well hope Liberty Wesleyan comes calling.

Recruiting has fallen victim to the Social Media toilet...July used to be ridiculously early to be talking about prospects for the upcoming class(2015). Now we're talking about 2016???

" One of the biggest accomplishments Miami made on defense this past spring was building its depth. That, however, takes a hit with Figueroa and Blue gone. "

" Both played as true freshmen last year and were going to be counted on to improve a unit that has only one standout. Figueroa, who started two games in 2013 and finished with 17 tackles, was the favorite to win the starting strongside linebacker job. Senior Thurston Armbrister is expected to take that role now. "

" Blue was penciled in to back up middle linebacker Denzel Perryman, the best player on the defense. "
***************

Again, I'm ABSOLUTELY not diminishing the TRAGIC incident which took place on the Coral Gables campus early, early Sunday AM past!

Because as the MAJORITY of Cane loyalists opine. I have a bloody agenda and whatnot. And my agenda certainly begins with a SUSPECT Miami team defense entering this season.

And with these two passé Cane LB's taking a FREE FALL into the abyss of the SoFlar criminal system. The Hurricanes will now a questionable LB corps.

So, I'll let ANOTHER OUTSIDER opinion, one which has the LOGIC and LEGITIMACY, which I don't hold speak on Miami's team defense.

Yeah, yeah this college football magazine, and an array of other college football magazines, have a HATEFUL, intentional AGENDA against Golden and D'Onofrio's FLAKEY team defense. So what!

Bloody well SMH and whatnot!

Again, the bloody VAST MAJORITY of Cane loyalists in canespace and in the M-H Hurricane blog are nothing but a CLUSTER muck of HYPOCRITES!!!!!

Chit, y'all Cane enthusiasts were CRAPPING all over the ONION HEAD when his RECRUITED players ran afoul of the corrupt SoFla criminal ?? justice ?? system. dUh

Now, it's Golden COULDN'T know one iota about the character of HIS recruited players.

So now y'all Golden and D' Onofrio fandom GIVE THEM A FREE PASS with your LAME ARSE excuses. Go bloody figures'!!!!!

I have to applaud and give President S. major RESPECT for the ETHICAL HIGHROAD she took recently.

Because a few programs such as NEBRASKA and FLORIDA and the mighty Seminoles would give their accused players a minor, wuzzy slap on the thick, wrist. If U Know What I Mean. hUh

Chit, FOUR current Herbie Cornhuskers player committed crimes this summer and have gotten a GET OF JAIL card. lol I think they have to run the stadium steps and listen to y'all's COUNTRY MUSIC/HEAVEY METAL and whatnot. LMFAO

But with no QB and little to no depth at LB that task will be very tough. Go Canes.

Posted by: jra | July 09, 2014 at 11:44 AM

Again, calling OUT the Cane defensive players and whatnot.

He!!, Id' give you a degree of street cred'. IF you only would've put the ONUS on Goldie nd' Marky Mark.

BECAUSE IT'S THEIR defensive scheme and ploys and whatnot! dUh

Good luck keeping those blinders on.

Posted by: casper | July 09, 2014 at 01:03 PM

LOL... chit, the vast majority of canespace/M-H Cane bloggers have blind, TUNNEL vision!

I didn't do it!

It's going to be a rough season...I'll take 7-5 right now...If D shows no improvement, we have to go D-Coord. shopping...

Nah... the Hurricanes are good enough to finish with a decent 8-4 season in 2014. And that's with YOUR beloved Golden and D'Onofrio commanding the team defense schemes and ploys and whatnot. hUh

Why can't we all just be Americans?
Posted by: Harriet Tubman Gator | July 08, 2014 at 10:23 PM

U tell me??? My demographic wasn't brought here (involuntarily) to be Americans, we were brought here to be the incarcerated workforce. Since that plan has been abolished many still are butthurt and ascribe to those same sentiments and practices in a more covert way. U should talk to them--tell them to get over it.

This is why he's up for several awards, lol!

Just being competitive against good teams would be huge. Spending hard earned money for road trips to Chicago and Orlando(Notre Dame and Louisville) only to get embarrassed is getting old.
That's the first step on a long road back to the top.
LOL, we thought we had a quality win against the Gators last year before their lineman ran a helmet lock drill on the way to a Division 2 loss...

Coming encounters which have and absolute potential to become Miami losses.

@ Louisville... Enter Petrino and the bowl game loss.

@ Nebraska... A legitimate TOP TEN team defense in ' 14.

DUKE... SIXTEEN ( 16 ) returning starters and an EXTREMELY soft four games prior to facing Miami.

CINNCY... A legitimate Top 35 team in ALL the magazines.

@ Va. Tech... Beamer Ball OWNS the Hurricanes since the 2005 season. Enough said.

CAROLINA BLUE... According to ALL the pigskin magazines, Carolina Blue is a CONSENSUS TOP 28 squad.

FSU... Need I bloviate more.

^^I made that Chicago trip as well, also my b-day weekend. Tired of spending my dough on away games where we get throttled. Thank God for Chicken & Waffles on the SouthSide or that trip would've been a wash. I love the city of Chicago. The Bears always have been my favorite NFL team.

That's a good outline Mack, and I totally agree...that's why I'd take 7-5 right now...again, if we just hang in on the tough games, play physical, and fight to the end AND COMPETE, it will be a trend in the right direction...

Oh that is nothing but a bunch of b.s. Al Golden or any other coach for that matter can only go on what he see's from the young men he recruits. No surprise here as this poster has never ascribed to accountability outside of Randy Shannon.

U post as if coaches visit recruits so they can interview them and their families. The arrogance and delusion is immense. When a coach goes into a home on a recruiting visit, it is an opportunity for the coach to sell himself to the kid and his family. The school and staff are the interviewee, not the other way around.

One thing that coaches promise families and sell is that they're the best men to help raise the families child from a boy to man. On the field, off the field, and in the classroom. They also promise and assure the parents that they will keep a close eye on their child and mentor them emotionally, athletically, morally, and academically.

Of course this tragedy isn't Golden's fault, but it is a somewhat apparent failure of that contract and agreement to properly cultivate those boys to men. If Golden is anything some assume he is, then he'd tell U as much himself. He should feel some sort of way about this, if he is a man of his word. I hope he does.

We were always weak, depth wise, at linebacker. This just exploits that weakness.

Enter the hybrid DE/LB into the fold. They should just move Chick to DT already, I mean wasn't that their plan the whole time. If McCord doesn't see significant playing time I will be very angry.
