« Tomorrow is a big day for the future of UM football. | Main | Miami Hurricanes scrimmage report from UM folks (Please note that it was closed to media) »

Canes home run derby a tuneup for scrimmage? We think not. (Where's David Thompson when you need him?)

The football Canes switched to baseball and a home-run derby on their day off Tuesday.

All I can say is that Malik Rosier, who will be an outfielder for the Hurricanes come baseball season, puts most of the other Canes to shame (Anthony Chickillo, don't quit your day job).

Speaking of baseball, former UM quarterback  David Thompson tore it up in the prestigious Cape Cod League this summer.

The regular season concluded with David, representing the Orleans Firebirds, hitting .331 (7th in league). He had 54 hits (4th), 29 RBI (4th) and 14 extra-base hits (5th). He led all batters in the East Division, was a starter on the All-Star team and was his team's MVP.

Between the unexpected return of ace lefty Andy Suarez, Thompson's continued excellence and the eventual arrival of Rosier (one of four UM quarterbacks battling it out for playing time), UM baseball coach Jim Morris must be feeling optimistic this offseason.

We'll be back as soon as we hear some news about today's football scrimmage, which is closed to the media and public.

I sure hope Morris puts all that talent to use.

Is it true he was watching to see if anyone else on the team could hit a curveball and catch a grounder?

I think our football team would own the Gators in baseball!

Tubby, let me translate your jibberish for folks who choose not to plow thru it.

You lie.

If not making a race point, what would be the basis for RS having to sue for contractual $ but Golden wouldn't have to?

Your words, not mine. If it isn't race what is it? Height? Hair color? Initials? What?

I think our football team would own the Gators in basketball too. You know the gators suck and so does jlo.

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/07/miami-is-the-most-underrated-team-in-college-football

Yup

UM is the most underrated team in college football and Al Golden is the best coach in college football and jls sucks and the gators can't compete with any DivII team.

Morris will find a way to under coach and under perform when it counts the most- around plaoff/ regionals/ super regional time or vs the noles or turds

wow, so now, in the desire to steal IDs, you are stealing an ID that insults you in the process?

Weak, jls, really weak, and yet somehow expected from you.

BTW, a team with 11 players on the field and pads WOULD slaughter a team of five with no pads, in either sport. You truly ARE an idiot, jls.

You really are like Hamas, begging for a cease fire and then attacking just to get that free first shot in, just to get your own people stomped in the collateral damage.

Gator trolls are SUCH IDIOTS!

The season will be here soon enough. We will see very soon what we are made of. I am cautiously optimistic about the season. Coaching against Petrino under the Labor Day night lights will be a good challenge and measuring stick for golden.

Here's Mr. Steele's FAVORITE teams going into the 2014 season. And the Cane fandom will LABEL the SAGACIOUS Steele another HATER of Golden/D'Onofrio and whatnot. dUh

#7 " North Carolina-The Tar Heels are my #5 Surprise Team and also my pick to win the wide-open ACC Coastal Division EMPHASIS ADDED. I also ranked them higher in the Top 25 (#18) than any other preseason publication. " PhilSteele.com

I wish that game was at home, the posters showing Petrino on a motorcycle with a sslut on the back would have been hilarious.

LB Perryman is on the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED preseason 2nd Team All-American list.

Congratulations # 52!!!

There was a time when Cane fan WASN'T AFRAID to see his beloved team play on the ROAD to open the season! Ouch. However, that has changed with the Golden and D'Onofrio regimen. Go figure.

Oh. Miami played Top 18 FSU in Tally back in 2005. That road game happen to be on Labor Day night.

Matter of fact, the Hurricanes had a NEW STARTING FRESHMEN signal caller the on 09-01-O5. hUh

" “Zero. Zero percent,” Golden said. “Poise, maturity, confidence, self-assured. And, you know, a guy that turned a program around in his league and won a whole bunch in a row. " miamiherald.com
______________

Is the Golden Boy referring to FSU's quarter back?

Fortunately good ol' boy Jimbo had a VERY GOOD defensive coordinator and an above-average Seminole defensive unit, to cover QB Winston's BACKSIDE and whatnot.

^^^^^^^^^^

You may be the dumbest human on the planet. Not completely sure but you are in the running.

Good ol' boy's from ANOTHER Cane blog CONTINUE to CHIT on that Onion Head. Go figure. SMH

Man. You can't make this crap up and whatnot. Heck, it's the month of August, 2014 and those CS bUbba's still are piling the putrid DOO DOO on that Onion Head.

Well, I all have to opine on the matter is this. The BELOVED Golden and D'Onofrio better coach/scheme these cCanes to a NINE win regular season and WIN the BOWL GAME.

Otherwise, Goldie is no better a head coach than that ONION HEAD!!

The Clueless at it again.

Here's the background on your writer from USAtoday:

"She's the Social Enterprise Writer for USA TODAY Sports. Previously covered Alabama athletics. Avid runner. Food connoisseur. Proud Texan.
Before I jump in with article posting, here's a little bit of background about me: I graduated from The University of Texas in May 2011 with a degree in sports journalism.
Also while in college, I worked at Sports Illustrated for a summer and have continued to write for them here and there".

SO SHE THINKS UM WILL BE RANKED??
NEWS FLASH BOZO: MOST FANS DO TOO!
Next time you might want to check the credentials of your source information before slinging it up here! Her opinion is shade above your own.

Oh. I see. The beloved Golden is obviously referring to BK's HIGH SCHOOL performance.

Well La Dee Dee, La Dee Duh.

By the way, it's a SOPHOmoronic metaphor to be contrasting a QB's prep career with his college football freshmen season. Especially when the kid has NEVER played a down of ACC football.

Here's Mr. Steele's FAVORITE teams going into the 2014 season. And the Cane fandom will LABEL the SAGACIOUS Steele another HATER of Golden/D'Onofrio and whatnot. dUh

FWIW... Beamer Ball made the ten team HM list of surprise teams. Go figure.

And damyum! I perused and perused and perused Mr. Steele's SURPRISE teams in 2014. But I couldn't locate Golden and D'Onofrio's Cane squad. Ouch.

Courtesy of FoxSports college football. Top 10 defensive coordinators whom should be head coaches.

No. 7: Bud Foster, Virginia Tech Hokies

regarded as one of the football's top assistants, Foster just keeps building nasty defenses. Last season, the Hokies were No. 4 in the nation in total defense. Will this be the year he finally gets his shot at a good head coaching job? There do figure to be a few good vacancies in that part of the country.

No. 4: Brent Venables, Clemson Tigers

A high-energy guy who had a lot of success at Oklahoma and also is known as one of the country's top recruiters, the 43-year-old Venables has fixed what had been a dreadful Tiger defense. Last season, Clemson ranked No. 24 in the nation and led the country in TFLs by a pretty large margin with 123. The year before he arrived, Clemson was 71st in total D and 65th in TFLs. This season, they figure to be even tougher on D. Foxsports.com

But what about Miami's D'Onofrio. He's been a defensive coordinator for EIGHT SEASONS now. hUh

Cola Cane ... why are you such an azzkissin homer ?

SERIOUSLY lol!!! That kola kane is, also, a BROWN NOSER whom has it stuck up U Know Who's hole. Ouch.

Clemson has an atrocious defense many, many, many, many, many injun moons ago. And what does Tiger football do. Those in Power go out and HIRE a competent defensive coordinator. Go figure.

Now why couldn't the University of Miami, Florida Hurricanes do the same fuggin' thing after the 2011 SEASON. smh

In not surprising Canes news ... I'm told that to this point, including scrimmage No. 1, Jake Heaps is on his way to the starting QB job.

The streets are talking. Heaps is definitely starting. Not that Kaaya did anything wrong. Game mgmt is not there yet for him.
___________

Now why would the beloved Golden say that QB Kaaya has a legitimate opportunity to start against Louisville.

Oh. Golden is playing his SUBTLE Jedi MIND TRICKS, again. Ouch.

@ByTimReynolds: Highlights of Canes scrimmage: Duke Johnson 54-yard TD run, Trayone Gray 25-yard TD run, Dallas Crawford 5 tackles and a FF, Perryman 3 TFL

Potential All-American LB Perryman must have blited on those TFL's. That's good, because perhaps Golden and D'Onfofrio are going to bring more AGGESSIVE blitz packages this season. dUh

@ChristyChirinos: Also per UM, Dallas Crawford--who Miami's coaches have loved on defense--had 5 tackles, forced a fumble and returned an INT 50 yds for a TD
_________

The diminutive, SOLID Crawford aims to keep his starting DB position and whatnot.

" The Canes defense was particularly good on third down, routinely stopping the offense and getting off the field thanks to a combination of pressure on the quarterback, good coverage and sure tackling. " hurricanesports.com
_________

Perhaps the performance on defense will carry over to the Louisville game and continue through the season.

Then this Marky Mark sceptic and basher would be the lone fool. Ouch.

I understand now. Miami DIDN'T have enough BIG BUCKS to pay for a new defensive coordinator at the end of the '11 season.

My bad!

Can anyone get the idiot Mack off the meth? What a moron.
