Faithful readers continue to share their ideas about wines to help us through our long, hot summer of economic discontent:
What to drink: The 2007 Pascual Toso Malbec, Maipu Valley, Argentina, $10. “The 2006 was the #1 best buy wine of 2007 from Wine Enthusiast, and the 2007 is every bit as good,” says Chris Noble.
What not to drink: “I purchased a Washington State cabernet for under $20 about three weeks ago and found it undrinkable in this weather. It was the first time I'd so disliked a wine in quite awhile. Maybe I have to stick to pinot noir for the summer,” says Hilda Mitrani.
Thanks, Chris and Hilda. Malbec and pinot noir – and Beaujolais and valpolicella and bardolino may be the way to go for the summer. Save the cabernet sauvignon for when South Florida’s real grilling season starts -– just after Thanksgiving.
