Turns out it wasn't just those domineering, misogynistic white guys who were oppressing women in broadcast news. Andrew Tyndall, who monitors newscasts for his Tyndall Report newsletter as well as Broadcasting & Cable magazine, says female correspondents have 40 percent fewer of the stories on the CBS Evening News since Kate Couric took over as anchor and managing editor six weeks ago. In the evil old patriarchal days of Bob Schieffer, stories filed by women averaged 5.8 minutes a night. Under the enlightened regime of Empress Katie, it's down to three minutes, less than a third of the time the men get. As we used to say in the '60s, sisterhood is, um, tepid.
