2008, the year TV chewed off its own leg

Trueblood''All of my summer replacement shows were big hits -- America's Next Top Pirate, Are You Stronger Than A Dog, MILF Island,'' bragged Jack Donaghy, the sleazy, stupid and swaggering network president on NBC's sitcom 30 Rock. It was supposed to be a joke, but by the end of 2009, it sounded like a chilling prophecy for a broadcast television industry battered by suicidal labor troubles and faltering ratings.
