Woman kills 2 family members, tells police she's Jesus

Kern1 A Georgia woman who killed two relatives sat in an interrogation room - blood streaked on her hands and face - and told police she was Jesus.

Amy Kern, left, said she drove 400 miles overnight to Port St. Lucie to kill her father because he was Satan and she was Jesus.

When she couldn't find him, she started down Interstate 95, shooting at vehicles.

She then decided she needed to kill her grandmother, but first she stopped at her aunt's house.

She fatally shot her aunt's boyfriend, William Chapman, 59, before continuing to the home of her grandmother, Donna Kern, 80.

She beat her grandmother - who fought back - with a tire iron.

Family members said Amy Kern is bipolar schizophrenic, who suffered from post partum depression after having a baby.

She had tried to check herself into a mental hospital in Georgia after midnight on Saturday.

The Palm Beach Post has the story.

Texas inmate plucks out eye, eats it

Thomas_narrowweb__300x4150 Before his Texas murder trial, Andre Thomas, pulled out his right eye, claiming to be mentally ill.

The judge said he was competent. He was convicted in the stabbing deaths of his estranged wife and two young kids - he had ripped out their hearts.

Last month, he plucked out his left eye. (The picture at left appears to be before the latest incident.)

He told officers - who found him in his cell with blood on his face - that he ate it.

"Thomas said he pulled out his eye and subsequently ingested it," Jason Clark, a spokesman with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice told the Associated Press. He has been taken to a prison psychiatric unit.

Said his trial attorney, Bobbie Peterson-Cate: "He is insane and mentally ill. It is exactly the same reason he pulled out the last one."

Thomas is on death row for the grisly murders of his estranged wife, 4-year-old son and 13-month old daughter.

Thomas stabbed them to death and ripped out their hearts. He then took the hearts with him and put them in a bag before throwing them in the trash.

Then we went to a police station and tried to stab himself.

Dead worker found in restaurant

11342137p1 An employee of Lucca's restaurant in Chicago was found dead in the Italian eatery's basement. His hands were tied, police said.

Few details were reported in this Chicago Tribune article, which says the man has not been identified and no arrests have been made. It was also unclear how he died, but police said the victim suffered trauma.

Final thought: A neighbor told the Trib he thought Lucca's kitchen was in the basement, where the body was found.

Killer chef cooks lover's leg

If British cooking was snubbed before, I can't imagine this story is going to help matters.

"A gay chef has murdered his lover, cut out part of his leg, seasoned it with herbs and fried it," The UK Daily Mail reported.

Chef Anthony Morley, 35, a one-time Mr. Gay UK, took a bite out of Damian Oldfield's (left, bottom) thigh before turning himself in to police.

Oldfield died from 20 stab wounds before Morley cooked and ate his leg.

The two had exchanged text messages ("Try me...I'm not your average poof," Oldfield wrote) and had drinks at a bar before going to Morley's Leeds apartment, police said.

Article107029002ea832f00000578192_2 Morley used two kitchen knives to stab Oldfield. Afterward, Morley told police he was acting in self-defense.

Russian devil-worshipers slay, eat teens

F_111620_gothmurder_daily_320_2 Freaky story of the day comes from Russia, where members of a Satanic cult are believed to have killed four teens in the most horrific of ways:

Cops say they made the teens get drunk, then they stabbed each victim 666 times, burned them alive, cut off their body parts and ate them. Holy moly.

A photo of three of the four victims -- described as Goths who were lured by the cult's leader -- is at left.  They're all 16 or 17.

This happened in a rural region called Yaroslavl, about 300 miles northeast of Moscow. Eight people have been arrested, and the Sun tabloid has all the freaky-deaky details.

Good policework leads to suspect

Seven_mile_bridge Miami detectives are hot on the trail of a man who they believe fled to Nicaragua after killing his wife and dumping her body off the Seven Mile Bridge.

Here's how things unfolded:

-On July 17, two tourists on a fishing trip found a woman's body in shallow water near the bridge.

-On July 20, the Herald's Cammy Clark reported that Monroe County detectives ruled the death a homicide because the woman had been bound at the wrists, waist and neck and the body weighed down so it wouldn't float.

-The break in the case, as reported today by the Herald's David Ovalle, came when Miami detectives heard about the unidentified body and asked Monroe County for a copy of the fingerprints.

The fingerprints belonged Eliett Jarquin, who had a brush with the law in 2002 and had recently been reported missing by her aunt.

Miami homicide detectives searched Jarquin's home and discovered that her husband, Francisco, had fled to his native Nicaragua. They interviewed Jarquin's brother, who admitted he helped Francisco put 44-pound gym weights onto Eliett's body and dump it over the bridge.

Police didn't say how Eliett was killed, but they believe it happened around July 13. Police were working on an arrest warrant for Francisco Jarquin.

Volcano There is no better way to start your week than reading this story from over the weekend:

WASHINGTON - Is everything spinning out of control?

Midwestern levees are bursting. Polar bears are adrift. Gas prices are skyrocketing. Home values are abysmal. Air fares, college tuition and health care border on unaffordable. Wars without end rage in Iraq, Afghanistan and against terrorism.

Horatio Alger, twist in your grave.

Excuse me while I reach for the Prozac.

Crime Scene Recommends: Crime Scene

I like what I see over at our namesake URL: CrimeScene.com.

Basically, they make up a fake homicide each week (set in Oxford, Miss.) and let users try to solve the crime. They post "evidence" like autopsy photos, 911 recordings, suspect lists, etc.

You have to pay a registration fee to join, but I'm thinkin' about it. Sounds like an interactive First 48, and that's something I can get behind.

Here's a Wall Street Journal article that explains the game more.

3 kids killed at Baltimore hotel

Marriott Horrible news from the Baltimore Sun:

A Montgomery County father engaged in a custody battle brought his three children to an Inner Harbor hotel and apparently killed them yesterday, Baltimore police said.

The bodies were discovered after the man called hotel security about 1:15 p.m. from his 10th-floor room at the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards, saying that he had killed his children and was considering harming himself, said Officer Troy Harris, a city police spokesman.

The children were all under seven years old.

I know, a little heavy for a Monday, but Baltimore's my adopted hometown. Spent four years there, and know this hotel well.

Baltimore's made strides in the last 10 years, but it's still a gritty, crime-ridden town. Even there, however, an incident like this is jarring.

Unsolved cop-killing on America's Most Wanted

Reyka America's Most Wanted will again profile the case of slain BSO Sgt. Chris Reyka (left) on Saturday night's broadcast.

This case has weighed heavily on the hearts of law enforcement officers in South Florida and across the country since Reyka was gunned down in a drugstore parking lot last August. Leads have come and gone, and at times investigators seemed close to breaking through with an arrest, but so far, the case is still open and unsolved.

The show airs at 9 p.m. on Fox affiliates nationwide.
