An Oakland Park man has been arrested on charges including human trafficking of a juvenile and getting income from prostitution, Fort :Lauderdale police said Wednesday.
Garret Frazier, 33, was arrested Feb. 11 after a month-long investigation and was also charged with renting space for prostitution, marijuana possession and cocaine possession.
Frazier remained Wednesday in Broward’s main jail with no bond.
The city’s new Human Trafficking Unit initiated an investigation last month after discovering a posting on www.backpage.com that advertised an available room to be rented for prostitution activity, according to police.
Detectives responded to the ad and conducted several undercover operations throughout the month of January. Police said Frazier rented undercover detectives — some posing as 16-year-old prostitutes and others as customers —a room for sex.
Police say Frazier worked out a deal to be paid for the room and to receive a portion of the proceeds from the illegal sexual activity.
On Feb. 11 the Human Trafficking Unit, along with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team, served a search warrant at Frazier’s residence, 1921 NE 43rd Ct. in Oakland Park.
Among the items seized: a Nissan Murano, a Nissan Altima, about $12,000 in cash, about four pounds of marijuana and about 16 grams of cocaine.
The investigation continues.
