Car fire, crash shut down turnpike in NW Miami-Dade

Crash2
A car fire caused chaos and gridlock on Florida's Turnpike Sunday afternoon in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Both directions were shut down just south of the 57th Avenue exit, the southbound side for the car fire and the northbound lanes for a car that slowed down and was hit.

The driver of the crashed car was airlifted to the hospital from the road.

Lanes reopened at about 2 p.m., but traffic was backed up.
