It's trophy season, and Jose Fernandez is a finalist for a couple of big ones: N.L. Rookie of the Year and Cy Young.
The Baseball Writers Association of America announced their award finalists Tuesday.
Fernandez, 21, will likely hear his name called when the writers announce N.L. Rookie next Monday. The right-hander already has received the top N.L. rookie nod from The Sporting News, Baseball America and at the Players' Choice Awards.
The BBWAA vote should turn out no differently. Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller are the other two rookie finalists.
The Cy Young Award should prove to be a bit more difficult for Fernandez, as he is up against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw and Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright. That award will be announced Nov. 13. No Marlins pitcher has ever received the honor.
Kershaw led the N.L. with a 1.83 ERA and in strikeouts. Fernandez was second with a 2.19 ERA.
