ATLANTA -- Dale Tallon traded Cory Stillman to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, getting a fifth round pick and pending UFA Ryan Carter (zero goals, three assists in 32 games with Canes) in the deal.
Here's what Dale had to say tonight:
IS THIS THE BEGINING OF A LOT MORE DEALS?
We're looking at all angles, all aspects in trying to get better for the future. Cory is great guy, gave his heart and soul to this team. Now he's going to a place where he won a Cup. I wish him all the best going forward.
ON CORY WAIVING NO-MOVEMENT CLAUSE AND HOW PANTHERS APPROACH THEM:
Our policy is to be totally honest when a team approaches us, to tell the player and they tell us they want to do. We'll honor any decision they make. Carolina was aggressive. Cory discussed with his family. He won the Cup there, is very popular there. He allowed us to trade him there.
DISAPPOINTED IN ONLY GETTING CARTER AND A FIFTH?
You take what you can get. That's the best offer for him we've had so far. All picks are valuable. The best possible deal, that's what we went with.
DID PAST TWO GAMES SPURN THE SELLOFF?
We've been in every game, still have an outside chance of making the playoffs. But with 22 game remaining, we can't afford any more games like that. Any loss tough to come back from. You probably have to be 8-10 games over .500 based on past years. We have to get on our high horse to do that. I want to stay competitive, keep players to get on a roll. But we have to look long term.
WHEN WILL CARTER PLAY?
He has a slight injury, upper body. We were familiar with that. We're going to call a couple of guys up from minors. We have key injuries to key players.
WAIVING STEVE BERNIER
We have got to do something to get him going. Disappointing? Yeah. It's all about performance for me and he's not performing.
ANY OTHER PLAYERS ASKED TO WAIVE NMC?
Not at this time, waiting for teams to call with the offers. No other player asked to move.
