Goalie coach Robb Tallas didn't fly with the team to Canada on Monday but instead met the team before Tuesday's game.
Tallas had a good reason: He became a citizen of the United States on Tuesday morning in Oakland Park.
Tallas, a native of Vancouver who lives in Coral Springs, said the process was long but “completely worth it.'' Panthers general manager Dale Tallon, a native of Quebec, has been a U.S. Citizen since 1993.
"Hello there, fellow American,'' Tallas said to an unnamed Miami Herald reporter in the Toronto press box on Tuesday. "Nice to join you.''
-- Injured winger Mikael Samuelsson didn't travel with the Panthers to Canada this week as he continues his rehabilitation after having complications from a sports hernia surgery he underwent last May.
Samuelsson came to the Panthers in the David Booth trade on Oct. 22 but has yet to play. Samuelsson skated for the first time since joining the Panthers on Tuesday in Coral Springs.
