The Panthers' relationship with Kevin Spacey continues to grow.
Thursday, the Panthers released a video the actor filmed for them and played it on the video review boards during the third period. Spacey, the focal point of the team's 'Spacey In Space' sweatshirt awarded to top players after victories, was shown leafing through various team jerseys before coming upon his own with the number 1738 on the back.
Spacey pulled the jersey off the rack, smiled and put a thumbs up.
"That was pretty cool," said Brandon Pirri, who scored a goal with an assist.
"You don't really want to be looking at the Jumbotron during a game but we were all nudging each other."
The reference to '1738' apparently goes back to the team's victory song -- which is 'Trap Queen' by rapper Fetty Wap -- in which Remy Martin 1738 cognac is referred to.
The team is apparently working on getting the Oscar-winning actor to a game or to somehow interact with the team.
It's believed some players ran into and met Spacey while the team was in New York back in December, leading to the sweatshirt and the subsequent craze.
Sales of the sweatshirt benefit the Florida Panthers Foundation as well as Spacey's foundation.
