OUT AND ABOUT

This past Friday, the Miami Herald's Lesley Abravanel had noted in her Scene in the Tropics column that our dear friend and director of sales and marketing for the Eden Roc Hotel, Saun Lightbourne, was throwing his annual birthday charity fundraiser to benefit the Miami Children's Hospital at The Fifth. Saun had brought legendary international recording artist CeCe Peniston to perform live at his celebrity oriented birthday extravaganza. Yesterday in her regular Tuesday Miami Herald column, Lesley continued with the coverage of CeCe and wrote: "Spotted at Saturday's Deco Party at Marriott South Beach, house diva CeCe Peniston in town for a fundraiser at The Fifth, along with her long-time manager, James Inghram. They were having a cocktail at the pool terrace and grooving to the Ibiza-style vocal house beats of DJ/Producer Oren Nizri. After chatting for a bit, Nizri played two of Peniston's latest hits, to which the singer sang along. "That made the afternoon for the crowd and the party", Nizri told us". Thank you Lesley for the nice mention! Needless to say, CeCe did an amazing job at The Fifth that night, and Saun's birthday party was simply a blockbuster. Congratulations Saun, and happy birthday, again! www.cecepeniston.com

This past weekend nightlife ambassador Tony Guerra, his business partner Simley Boyd and their team had a great line-up scheduled for the grand opening of the long anticipated Aero Bar at 247 23rd Street, in Miami Beach. Based on a combined three decades of experience and contacts, Aero Bar inaugurated the 2 million dollar investment with an over the top party that was extremely well attended; so well attended to the point that the fire marshals had to stop the great set played by DJ Shawn Rudnick on Friday, June 6, at approximately 2 AM, and ordered everyone to leave the premises. Not only did the new club get closed for that night, but for the entire weekend. The Aero team sent a press release the next day with the apologies for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, things escaped their control, especially with the City of Miami Beach being very strict with the venues these days. However, Aero Bar hopes to re-open this weekend and I am sure they will be more than careful this time. To get all the details about their upcoming events, click on the web site www.aerobarmiami.com

On Thursdays, join Dustin Reffca at his weekly soiree Hot Mess at the swanky and recently remodeled long-time hotspot BED at 929 Washington Avenue. Expect sheets, pillows, well-priced drinks, tons of live entertainment, fashion and some great open format tracks by DJ Shannon throughout the night. This Thursday night venture is already considered one of the newest sensations on the South Beach scene this summer. It's recommended that you get there early to avoid the lines and to enjoy the complimentary cocktails from 11 PM to midnight to get your groove on! For more information, click on www.bedmiami.com

On Fridays, Mag Entertainment & MagMiami.com present a brand new soiree in a brand new venue, Dolche Fridays at Dolche Ultralounge, at 1501 Collins Avenue (second floor) in South Beach. Widely known for their loyal followers and their outrageous theme parties, Mag Entertainment just had a soft opening last weekend and now is ready to hit the beach big time on Fridays, bringing together their always chic, sexy, fun and eclectic crowd. Long time South Beach spinner Ron Luna is in charge of the musical orchestration at Dolche, a venue that promises to be one of the headliners this summer. A perfect occasion to check out Dolche Ultralounge and to hang out with the cool and hip, and of course, with the Mag crew, this and every Friday! www.magmiami.com

Talking about grand openings and fresh new venues, interior designer guru and nightlife impresario Mark Lowe of KA, party promoter extraodinaire Elon of KA and Christian Leonard of KA, are working hard and getting ready to launch their fantastic brand new venue, Living Room Nightclub, in Fort Lauderdale. The grand opening is schedule to take place on Independence Day, Friday, July 4th, and the multi-room sexy club promises to take the nightlife in Broward county to the next level. Nothing will compare to the sophisticated decor and the most incredible sound system in Fort Lauderdale, and beyond. We cannot disclose more details at the moment, but get ready for the grand opening of the year, with no doubt. Meanwhile, Mark, Elon, Chris and their team are recruiting contortionists, aerialists, jugglers and acrobats. Info anyone? www.myspace.com/kanightlife

The high-rises keep on building up on the Brickell area, almost as much as the chic up-and-coming hotspots. Segafredo Brickell, the all-in-one cafe, lounge and boutique nightclub, is filling the need of the Brickell partygoers, who had to drive to the Beach to party only until a few months ago. Not only that, but our hip locals, always on the lookout for the next big thing, are exploring the different and fascinating destinations that Brickell now has to offer. Segafredo Brickell is cozy, comfortable and intimate, perfect for a relaxed soiree filled with Italian-inspired cuisine, smooth beats and a low key ambiance. On the back of the 10,000 square feet indoor and outdoor space, Spazio Nero, its boutique nightclub, is more exclusive than inclusive. It occupies 2,000 square feet of the property and it's primarily used for private parties and bottle service. The area is very private with 20 tables lining each wall in a long, contemporary and dark room, hence its name. As the venue is in the middle of the financial district, the crowd is professional, distinguished and sophisticated, yet fun and very sexy. A refreshing change worth a drive of the Beach to experience. After all, it's just 10 minutes away! www.segafredobrickell.com

For Chinese food lovers, Miss Yip on 1661 Meridian Ave, (space formerly owned by celebrity Cameron Diaz) is now owned by the intrepid Jennie Yip, who has converted the flavorful eatery into a favorite spot just a few meters off Lincoln Road. Under the creative supervision of Chef Vincent Cheng, the Hong-Kong style restaurant has become a success in the local community and in relatively a short period of time. From scrumptious homemade Wanton or sweet and sour soup, traditional dishes such as the Mongolian Beef and a terrific variety of vegetables, rice and noddle dishes, Miss Yip offers consistent service and tasty dishes, very much so following the world-famous Chinese reputation. Keep in mind their Shangai Express $10.88 lunch specials, which has over 45 choices. Whether it's a special celebration or a casual night out around South Beach, Miss Yip serves as a perfect fit. www.MissYipRestaurant.com

Marriott South Beach at 161 Ocean Drive has to be one of the most chic hotels in South Beach with a very exquisite Miami flavor to it. The art deco vibe of its decor along with the high-end yet inviting and comfortable ambiance of the property makes it one of the preferred places to stay and enjoy the weather on the Beach. Not only that, but have you heard about the Deco Blue Terrace restaurant and outdoor lounge? Overlooking the beautiful pool area and only a few yards away from the ocean, the Terrace is a fantastic place for frozen drinks in the afternoon, for a casual dinning experience through out the day and even brunch on the weekends. A venue that offers personalized service for locals and visitors alike, it's just perfect as a different hang-out place to experience in the South of Fifth area, especially during the upcoming summer season. And continuing with the Brickell area, the luxurious Conrad Hotel at 1395 Brickell Avenue, also opened just a few months ago a sultry new dining and entertainment destination, Level 25. This spectacular hotel bar has nothing to do with the pool or beaches. Instead, it sits 250 feet above ocean level on the 25th floor of the elegant hotel, that offers spectacular city views and a delicious Latin/Asian-American fusion cuisine from renowned Chef Michael Gilligan. The location is reason enough to start the night with a Brickelltini, while Sea scallop tiradito and goat cheese empanadas pair pefectly. The good looking and courteous staff - who wear uniforms designed by Julian Chang - is very personable and knowledgeable, key for a memorable night out in the venue. Experience the fabulous views that Miami has to offer, it doesn't always need to be in front of the ocean. www.comradmiami.com

Congratulation to our dear friend and now Soyka Restaurant partner Steven Haas, for appearing in the cover of Wire Magazine, on the Thursday, June 5 edition of the South Beach publication. With the title of An Affable Pioneer, publisher Carl Zablotny wrote a great article about Steven's amazing career as a restaurateur, highlighting his life and countless accomplishments in the industry. We even learned things about Steve that we didn't know including the fact that he was the one who created the most successful restaurant program in the United States, Miami Spice. Congratulations Steve! It's so refreshing to have people like you in the community! www.soykarestaurant.com

It's just incredible to see how a party can be so successful for so many years. We recently went out on Monday, and we realized that Tantra on 1445 Pennsylvania Ave, continues to be the place to party on Monday nights on the beach, since the days of Madonna and our dear friend Rupert Everett. The welcoming fresh grass and the buddha bar decor combined with velvet ropes, fancy drinks and glamour, makes of the restaurant-become-lounge a living legend as a party destination. The crowd is rich - in many ways - beautiful and incredibly outgoing, it looks like the time hasn't passed or changed since the late 90s! A must go on Mondays for a fun night out in sophistication, make sure that you dress to impress to cross the ropes of the entrance. www.tantramiami.com

As more parties get lined up on our island to refresh our summer, Nicole Duguay and Chris Rodriguez of Eros Productions, Boy Toys Events and Splash Miami have already set the grand opening night for Glow Wednesdays at the ultra-sexy buddha decorated Indra Lounge, at 841 Washington Avenue for Wednesday, June 25. The Opening Blast will offer complimetary admission from 10 PM to midnight and complimentary vodka cocktails from 10 PM to 11 PM, as a warm treat to the locals. Nicole and Chris visualize their weekly South Beach high-energy soiree as a mixture of sex-appeal and creative entertainment never seen before on the Beach along with some of the best dance and house music around. With a mantra of "A radiating paradise of black lights; wear white and illuminate the night at Indra Lounge", this fresh concept is certainly a needed alternative for a different party in the middle of the week, in an exquisite and comfortable venue. Everyone with good vibes and great energy is welcomed! For additional information, e-mail Nicole at nicole@boytoyevents.com or visit the web site www.boytoyevents.com

Last but not least, this past Sunday, June 8, Click at Deck23 Nightclub featured the musical abilities of DJs Daniel Kristopherre and Maximus 3000, who rocked the South of 7th and Washington venue. Daniel started the night with an amazingly put together set of house classics and after the performance of Adora, Maximus continued into the wee hours with a sexy array of darker and electro beats to the delight of the crowd. Among those in attendance, Click promoter Dustin Reffca, restaurateur and host Flavio Nisti, photographer Dale Stine, Joe Granda Entertainment's Rudy Rafuls, Halo's Jason Tamanini, interior designer Marisol Urquisa, bartender Charlie Dominguez, recording artist Michael M, make-up artist Jorge Zavaleta and personal shopper Lidya Mercado, among others. And, believe it or not, through the hard work of Omar Gonzalez and Dustin Reffca, Click will be celebrating its first year anniversary this upcoming Sunday, June 15. A night not to miss, and we won't! www.myspace.com/clicksundays

This year, the choices for a fun Independence Day will be better than ever. We have probably made our early side of the night choice, which will be the traditional City of Miami Beach Fourth Of July Celebration. This is always a unique and very touching demonstration of the American Independence. Beginning at 7:30 PM, music by DJ Irie will bring the crowd to its feet. Fireworks are scheduled to start at the beginning of nightfall. All festivities will take place on the beach at 10th Street and Ocean Drive. Hard to think of a more patriotic or more purely Miami way to celebrate and start the night! For more information, call the Miami Beach Tourism Center at 305.673.7400, or click www.aboutmiami.com
