Brad Pitt donating $100,000 to fight California gay marriage ban

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Brad Pitt is donating $100,000 to fight a November ballot initiative that would outlaw gay marriage in the state. Here's the story:

By TINA DAUNT, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

pitt Brad Pitt announced Wednesday that he's donating $100,000 to fight California's Proposition 8, a November ballot initiative that would eliminate same-sex couples' right to marry.

"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," the actor said in a statement.

Pitt's donation marks the largest thus far to the anti-Prop. 8 campaign by an A-list celebrity.

Political strategist Chad Griffin, who is helping coordinate efforts in the entertainment industry to defeat the controversial initiative, said he is hopeful that the move will prompt others to get involved. He added that Democratic billionaire Ron Burkle has agreed to host a large fundraiser at his home in October to rally the entertainment industry against Prop. 8, which opponents say will take away important benefits such as health insurance and will complicate decision-making related to medical emergencies and other situations in domestic partnerships.

In recent weeks, tens of thousands of dollars -- much of it from outside California -- has been donated to groups on both sides of the issue.

The measure was placed on the ballot after the California Supreme Court invalidated the state's prohibition on same-sex marriage in May.

Absolutely the balsiest move yet by Brad to court gay fans and civil rights advocate. His next movie will be a blockbuster even if only ten percent of the population see it.

WOW-talk about guts !

um, maybe he wasn't trying to court anyone and is just trying to donate to a cause he feels is just? and he's completely right - i don't understand all these people who are so dead against same sex marriage when it has absolutely no effect on them.

Damn Mike, you have nothing better to do with 100K, how about donating it to Haiti for hurricane relief?

Another Hollywood degenerate to boycott.

I guess Angelina has bored poor Brad and now he wants to try boys. Hanging with George Looney too long !

Typical Hollywood idealist with nothing else to do with his money, Yep Gat Marriage certainly does not hurt anyone, try telling that to the kids who's fathers have left theire mothers for another man, or the mother who is now gay and living with her butch girlfriend and the little girls are wondering what is going on, or the little boy walking down the street with his parents and see's 2 men kissing, or the numerous gays dieing with aids. nope it doesnt hurt anyone at all, but I still think he should have donated his money to a better cause

What? Can you see nothing good in anything? What if he has no ulterior motive? And why do you all care how he spends the money he's earned? Forgo So. Beach or wherever you hang out on the weekends and send that money to Haiti. It's not like Pitt is spending it on a big bar tab.

Isn't that special!

Donating to hurricane relief is noble and I would not disparage anyone for doing so. I think insuring equal rights that have thus far been denied to 10% of our population would have a much more profound and long-term positive impact on the world. Gee Ed, maybe if same-sex marriage was legal gay men wouldn't be compelled to pretend they are straight and create families with women. Maybe they would be allowed to just be honest from the beginning. Oh yeah, I forgot, they were straight and just all of a sudden "chose" to be gay.

GREAT NEWS! Go Pitt!

Ed Ochoa:

No, it does not hurt anyone. If kids ask their parents why two men were kissing on the street or why their GAY father left their straight mother, maybe parents should tell their kids the TRUTH. Such as, a small % of the pop is gay. And, some people are trapped in an unhappy "straight" marriage because they are not being true to themselves. Why is telling kids the truth so difficult? Kids are most hurt when they are lied to and telling your kids about gays will not make them gay, just tolerant and comfortable with themselves, unlike you, Ed.

Awesome move on Brad's part.
Thank you Brad!

Screw you Pitt you liberal moron! Too bad with all your money you don't have enough sense to buy a cup of coffee. I wish "celebrities" would keep their opionions to themselves. I stop going to their movies actually because I can't stand them after they shoot off their big mouth. Funny how liberals are for living their life as they wish, having freedom of speech (for libs only of course) but they are the ones who sentence unborn babies to death and won't join the military. That is why I can't stand them. Biggest hypocrites on the planet.

Very interesting comment by Brad. He says "Because no one has the right to deny another their life." I guess he will now donate another $100,000.00 to fight abortion. He's pro-life? I thought that homosexuality first was a choice, then a way of life, then a Lifestyle, and the latest, the biggest lie of all, they are born that way. Ask Dean Hammer...
Brad is a moron. But then again, what would you expect from a Hollywood liberal.

onother reason not to vote for obama. liberals want to take over our country. if they do we are in bigggggggggg trouble

I agree. I also think everyone should live their lives. Doing so with morals, ethics, and a certain sense of character wouldn't hurt, though. How far we have come as a society, when we so blatantly choose to reward those individuals that coexist in our very neighborhoods, when they conduct their lives in abhorrent perverseness. Maybe we should all shut our mouths every time we see injustice, or turn a blind eye when we cannot accept a behavior that clashes with our beliefs. Maybe our forefathers should have just paid the stupid tea tax, or have succumbed to England's crown. Maybe we should let pedophiles have relationships with children, so long as the child is willing....no one is bothered there, either; in these cases, we'll let them enjoy the lavish freedom to live their lives, so long as it's done so without hurting anybody. Child pornography, or rather the possession of it, either digitally or hard copy, is a felony in any circle. Why? Most of these children are from other countries. What can be proved about their pain? And how does one in possession of simple photography, regardless of content, cause any? The answer is this: so long as abnormal, perverse behavior is prevalent in our societies, the desensitization to that immorality is imminent. First gay marriage, next....what? And we could scarcely afford to REWARD such behavior.

Remind me never to go see one of his movies again.

This is what happens when you are out of touch with reality. Well, this goes for most of Hollywood. Most have a multitude of problems and big family issues, multiple divorces, etc. It's not surprising when you have no morals and when you don't believe in anything.

Now we can put Brad in the pin head list.

Some of these comments are beyond stupid. Why on earth does "God's Messenger" think pedophilia and child pornography are subjects included in this post?

Why does he imagine he has some qualification for deciding who other people should or should not marry? What is wrong with him? Why does he imagine he speaks for God? Such conceit, such self-centeredness. How can he believe his ignorant and arrogant remarks have anything to do with God?

Has he ever loved a human being at all, or does he imagine God is all about hating other people? Poor thing. I think he is one of those people who misunderstood and think they are supposed to create God in their own image so he is trying as hard as he can.

Actually, his comment is extraordinarily perverse. But maybe he just really enjoys perversity; he doesn't seem to be very familiar with godliness.

Mama:

Pedophilia and child pornography are definitely not covered in this post, but were used, rather, to make a point about....well, read the post correctly....maybe you'll see who's REALLY stupid.

And while I have no qualification for deciding who people should or should not marry, having my opinion, carries with it as much conceit or self-contentedness as does yours. Please, look at yourself through your own quantifying prism just before you callously classify someone as ignorant, arrogant or unloving, especially for voicing a perspective that carries weight (even if it differs from yours).

To clarify: I know plenty of Godliness - notice the capitalization, as your "godliness" may refer to some ambiguous deity, mine refers to the Alpha and the Omega, the God of Abraham and Moses, and all the prophets - and my knowledge, albeit limited for sure, ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT insinuate "hatred" of ANY sort.

Please read Gen. 1-26 on and familiarize yourself on how God created us in his IMAGE and LIKENESS. "Image" refers to having been made male and female, in order to procreate; and "likeness", referring to our ETERNAL soul. This is not MY fabrication, as the Church has taught these things for thousands of years, both pre and post Jesus. And sexual perverseness was NEVER in His (notice capitalization again) plan for us, regardless of HOW MAINSTREAM THIS PRACTICE HAS BECOME.

Lastly, to answer your question: Yes, I've loved as much and as best as God has given me strength for. It's a flawed love, surely, as I am far from perfect in many ways. But while I've ALWAYS loved the sinner, I've ALWAYS hated the sin.

I'll pray for you. I see you're in dire need.

Romans 1 v 18-32

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness.......

Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools........

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts.

Even their exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other me, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

AIDS is not going away anytime sooner than sexual immorality in America...

You say oooooohhhhh how can a loving God do that?

Well if i gave you an instruction manual and told you if you dont follow it you will injure yourself what do you think the outcome is if you say let's seperate church and state take the manual out of schools, courts, and we are going to live on this earth with our own instinct
well my friends....
you have what we see today chaos in the world and all sorts of tragedies.
And remember in the bible it also states that children suffer for the sins of their fathers up to the third and fourth generation

It's all there in the world's bestselling book whether you believe or not!

IT TAKES MORE FAITH TO BE AN ATHEIST !!!

Damn Mike, you have nothing better to do with 100K, how about donating it to Haiti for hurricane relief?

EXXXXXXACTLY!!!!

Please tell me Brad that you mean " Civil Unions " not the same moral dignity as a God ordained marriage. Come on man. You need to help the peace not add to the drama. Achilles!!! War the civil union not the fight of calling it mariage. Marriage is a Man and woman thing. To procreate, not two dudes or two women bumping uglies (calling) it marriage.. Hurry up and publically stipulate that,OK???

Good values and a lot of money is a cool combo!

wow this is the dumbest thing i have seen yet gay marriage how would that not hurt anyone it would give to gay people the same tax right offs as a married couple that can make babies, yet they can not have kids. Is that a good thing? In my opinion it would not be a good thing it would lower taxes that are imposed on a couple that cant even reproduce. I think they should be on a serrate tax bracket then a male and a female partner. should be higher then a couple or as to single people. Also brad pit is being ballsy with this donation. *he might as well come out of the closet and tell everyone he is bi*
