Space Coast gay business guild taking off

Florida Today posted an interesting story about the gay business guild in Brevard County, Fl. (That's the Space Coast in Central Florida.)

Gay-friendly business guild gains popularity

An alliance of gay-owned and gay-friendly businesses is gaining popularity in Brevard County.

The Space Coast Business Guild formed 3½ years ago so that gay and gay-friendly business owners could could network and strengthen economic ties. About 40 businesses are involved in the guild, whose goal is to "promote the vitality and productivity of the gay and lesbian business and professional community in Brevard County," according to its Web site.

Increasing interest in the guild from community members is helping it to do just that.

"I was nervous at first," said guild president and founder Jason Rivera. "But we've had a really great response to it. We've got a lot of members who are straight couples, and we try our hardest to maintain a professional appearance in everything we do in the community."
